Description
本発明の球状窒化ホウ素粉末は、下記に記載されるように、熱管理用途用の充填剤として、たとえば複合材料、ポリマーおよび流体中において用いられ得る。球状窒化ホウ素粉末はまた、該粉末の改善された充填密度および均一な充填特性の故に、熱間圧縮成形において用いられ得る。更に、生じた球状窒化ホウ素粉末は、立方晶系窒化ホウ素への六方晶系窒化ホウ素の転換において前駆体供給原料物質として用いられ得る。立方晶系窒化ホウ素への高純度六方晶系窒化ホウ素の転換の際に、窒化ホウ素の圧縮形態が、立方晶系窒化ホウ素相図の安定領域内の極めて高い圧力および温度に付される。窒化ホウ素ペレットの密度は、立方晶系窒化ホウ素転換方法の経済性にとって有意である。
該六方晶系窒化ホウ素スラリーは、好ましくは、本発明による高固形分六方晶系窒化ホウ素スラリーである。
すべてのBN粉末が添加された後、スラリーのpHは8.5であると測定され、そしてNaOHの添加により9に調整した。この段階におけるスラリーは全く粘稠であるように見えたが、しかし良好な剪断減粘を示した。
引き続いて、スラリーを、必要に応じて用いるために密封容器に移した。
BN粉末への焼結用添加剤の添加が、スラリー形態において理想的になされた。これは、BNと焼結助剤の均質配合物を生じるのを助けた。スラリーブレンディングが可能または実用的でなかった場合、乾式混合法が用いられた。
ダイ充填用途用BN粉末を生成させるために、実施例1のBNスラリーが噴霧乾燥された。噴霧乾燥はまた、均質な多成分の無加圧焼結用粉末系を生成させるための最も迅速なやり方をもたらした。50wt%固形分のBNスラリーは他のセラミック系と比べて非常に高度に充填されていると思えたけれども、それは有意量の水を含有していた。この水のすべてを有効滞留時間内に蒸発させるために、入口および出口温度が増加されねばならなかった。これらの変更と共に、スラリーの流速が減速され、また噴霧器の毎分回転数(rpm)が増加された。加えて、乾式圧縮成形用途用に用いられる予定である場合、噴霧乾燥前に、4wt%グリセロールがスラリー中に添加された。噴霧乾燥中、スラリーは絶えず混合された。
次いで、噴霧乾燥された性質に対する窒化ホウ素固形分のスラリー充填量(wt%)の効果が、表2に示されたように試験された。
実施例1からのスラリーを、セッコウ鋳込型中に注いだ。圧力を加え、そして準備完了されたこの型を12時間程度放置して鋳造した。該型はそれほど速く「ブラインド(目詰まり)」した故、鋳造は停止され、そして更なる水分はスリップから除去されなかった。
生じた物質は、濃厚なペースト状物質であった。固形分含有率は76%であった。
実施例1からのスラリーを、濾紙を有するブフナー漏斗中に注いだ。このスラリーに、下から真空を引いた。系からの水は、メスフラスコ中に流れた。所望量の水がスラリーから除去された時、真空を解いた。74%の固形分含有率を有していたこのBNペースト試料を収集し、そして後の使用のために気密バッグ中に密封した。
Claims (14)
- 球状窒化ホウ素粉末を製造する方法であって、
六方晶系窒化ホウ素スラリーを用意し、
窒化ホウ素小板の球状集塊を含む球状窒化ホウ素粉末を生成するのに有効な条件下で、該スラリーを噴霧乾燥し、そして
この球状窒化ホウ素粉末を焼結する
ことを含む方法。 - 六方晶系窒化ホウ素スラリーが、30wt%〜50wt%の六方晶系窒化ホウ素粉末を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 窒化ホウ素小板の球状集塊が、10ミクロン〜500ミクロンの平均集塊直径を有する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 窒化ホウ素集塊のより多量の部分が、30ミクロン〜150ミクロンの平均直径を有する、請求項3に記載の方法。
- 球状窒化ホウ素粉末が、0.4g/cc〜0.7g/ccのタップ密度を有する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 焼結を、1,800℃〜2,400℃の温度にて行う、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 所望の集塊サイズ分布を得るのに有効な条件下で球状窒化ホウ素粉末を分級することを更に含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 分級が、篩分け、空気分級および湿式篩から成る群から選択される、請求項7に記載の方法。
- 六方晶系窒化ホウ素スラリーが、40wt%〜50wt%の六方晶系窒化物粉末を含む、請求項2に記載の方法。
- 六方晶系窒化ホウ素スラリーが、0.5wt%〜5wt%の界面活性剤を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 球状窒化ホウ素粉末が、窒化ホウ素小板の焼結球状集塊を含む請求項1記載の方法。
- 窒化ホウ素小板の焼結球状集塊が、10ミクロン〜500ミクロンの平均集塊直径を有する、請求項11に記載の方法。
- 窒化ホウ素小板の焼結球状集塊のより多量の部分が、30ミクロン〜150ミクロンの平均直径を有する、請求項12に記載の方法。
- 球状窒化ホウ素粉末が、0.4g/cc〜0.7g/ccのタップ密度を有する、請求項11に記載の方法。
