- 前記表示装置は、前記第1の画素アレイからの光が、ある画素から次の画素に滑らかに変化するように構成されている、請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第1の画素アレイの画素は、第2の画素アレイにおいて、ある画素から隣の画素に横断するときに、第1の画素アレイの光の強度が滑らかに変化するように、ある画素からの光が第1の画素アレイの隣接する画素からの光と重なるように構成される、請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第1の画素アレイの画素が、前記第2の画素アレイにおいて、ある画素からの光が隣接する画素からの光と重なるように配置され、前記第1のアレイの各画素は0.3×d2から3×d2の範囲に半値幅を有する分布関数により特徴付けられる形で、前記第2の画素アレイに光を投影するように構成され、d2は第1の画素アレイの画素間の中心から中心までの距離である、請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記重なりは、第2の画素アレイ上に第1の画素アレイからの光の強度の滑らかな変化の生成に役立ち、前記第1の画素アレイの画素の強度プロフィールは、前記画素の有効幅に等しい幅d1を有する長方形プロフィールで畳み込まれた、近似されたガウス分布関数を含む、請求項6に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第1の画素アレイは前記第2の画素アレイよりも低い解像度を有し、前記第1の画素アレイの各画素は前記第2の画素アレイの複数の画素に共通しており、
前記低解像度の空間光変調器の各画素が前記高解像度の空間光変調器の複数の画素に共通であるという事実に起因する影響を低減するように、前記第2制御信号は前記高解像度の第2の画素アレイを制御する調整を含む、請求項1に記載の表示装置。 - 前記第1の画素アレイの前記画素は前記第2の画素アレイの画素よりも大きく且つ低解像度であり、前記第1の画素アレイの画素は、前記所望の画像における明るい物体の周りの所望しない大きな「ハロー効果」から保護する大きさである、請求項8に記載の表示装置。
- 前記制御装置は、所望の輝度値を前記第2の画素アレイの対応する画素上の、前記第1の画素アレイから入射する既知の光の強度で除算することを含む処理において前記第2制御信号を生成するように構成される、請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 高ダイナミック・レンジ(HDR)LCD表示装置であって、
第1の低解像度画素アレイであって、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイは第2の高解像度画素アレイ上に個別に制御された量の光を発するように構成され、
画像信号を受信し、前記画像信号に基づき所望の画像の低解像度近似を含む第1制御信号と、前記所望の画像の前記低解像度近似と前記所望の画像との間の差を含む第2制御信号とを提供するように構成される制御装置と
を備え、前記制御装置は、動作において、
前記第1制御信号は、前記所望の画像の前記低解像度近似を表す変調された光を発するように、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの画素を制御する出力であり、
前記第2制御信号は、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイから発せられた光を更に変調し、前記所望の画像に近づくように発光させるような、前記第2の高解像度画素アレイの前記画素を制御する出力である
ように接続され
前記第1の低解像度画素アレイにより発せられる個別に制御される光量は、前記第2の高解像度画素アレイにより実行される変調段階よりも粗である強度段階で制御され、
前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの画素のサイズは、前記第2の高解像度画素アレイの画素のサイズよりも大きく、
前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの各画素は、前記第2の高解像度画素アレイの複数の画素に共通であり且つ前記第2の高解像度画素アレイの複数の画素を照射し、
前記第2制御信号は、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの各画素は、前記第2の高解像度画素アレイの複数の画素に共通であるという事実に起因する影響を低減するように、前記第2の高解像度画素アレイを制御する調整を含み、
前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの画素は、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの光の強度により前記第2の高解像度画素アレイにおいて滑らかに変化するように、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの一つの画素からの光が前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの隣接する画素からの光に重なるように配置される、
高ダイナミック・レンジ(HDR)LCD表示装置。 - 前記第1の低解像度画素アレイから発せられる変調された光は、単一の光変調された束を含む、請求項11に記載の高ダイナミック・レンジ(HDR)LCD表示装置。
- 前記第1の低解像度画素アレイから発せられる変調された光は、前記第2の高解像度画素アレイから発せられる更に変調された光を含む光束の形態に類似した形態の単一の変調された光束を含む、請求項11に記載の高ダイナミック・レンジ(HDR)表示装置。
- 前記第1の低解像度画素アレイから発せられる変調された光は、前記第2の高解像度画素アレイから発せられる更に変調された光を含む光の束の形態と大きさに類似した変調された光の信号束を含む、請求項11に記載の高ダイナミック・レンジ(HDR)表示装置。
- 前記表示装置は前記第1の低解像度画素アレイから前記第2の高解像度画素アレイ上の光の強度が、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイからの前記光が0.3×d2から3×d2の範囲で半値幅の分布関数を有する形で、滑らかに変化するように構成され、d2は前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの画素間の中心から中心までの距離である、請求項11に記載の高ダイナミック・レンジ(HDR)表示装置。
- 前記表示装置は前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの画素の強度プロフィールが、前記画素の有効幅に等しい幅d1を有する長方形プロフィーと畳み込まれる近似されたガウス拡散関数を含むように、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイから前記第2の高解像度画素アレイ上への光の強度が、滑らかに変化するように構成される、請求項11に記載の高ダイナミック・レンジ(HDR)表示装置。
- 前記表示装置は、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの画素からの光が前記第2の高解像度画素アレイ上で重なり、前記第1の画素アレイの画素の強度プロフィールが、前記画素の有効幅に等しい幅d1を有する長方形プロフィールと畳み込まれる近似されたガウス分布関数を含み、0.3×d2から3×d2の範囲において半値幅を有する分布関数を有するように、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイから前記第2の高解像度画素アレイ上への光の強度が滑らかに変化するように構成され、d2は前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの画素間の中心から中心までの距離である、請求項11に記載の高ダイナミック・レンジ(HDR)表示装置。
- 前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの画素は、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイのある画素からの光が、前記第2の高解像度画素アレイにおいて、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの隣接する画素からの光と重なように配置され、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの各画素は、0.3×d2から3×d2の範囲において半値幅を有する分布関数により特徴付けられる形で、光を前記第2の画素アレイに投影するように構成され、d2は前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの画素間の中心から中心までの距離である、請求項11に記載の高ダイナミック・レンジ(HDR)表示装置。
- 前記第1の低解像度画素のレイの前記画素は、前記所望の画像の明るい物体の周りに存在する、所望されない「ハロー」効果が存在しない程度に十分小さい、請求項11に記載の高ダイナミック・レンジ(HDR)表示装置。
- 前記コントローラは所望の輝度値を前記第1の画素アレイから入射され、第2の画素アレイの対応する画素上の既知の光の強度で除算することを含む処理において前記第2制御信号を生成するように構成される、請求項11に記載の高ダイナミック・レンジ(HDR)表示装置。
- 画像信号に含まれる所望の画像の低解像度の近似を含む第1制御信号と、
前記所望の画像の前記低解像度近似と前記所望の画像との間の差を含む第2制御信号と
を生成することにより、前記画像信号に従って第1の低解像度画素アレイと、第2の高解像度画素アレイをと備える2重変調表示装置を制御するように構成される制御装置であって、
前記第1制御信号は、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの画素を制御して、前記所望の画像の前記低解像度の近似を表す変調された光を発するように構成され、
前記第2制御信号は、前記第2の高解像度画素アレイの画素を制御して、前記所望の画像に近づくように前記第1の低解像度画素アレイから発せられた前記光を更に変調するように構成され、
前記第1の制御信号は、前記第2の高解像度画素アレイにより変調された前記個別に制御された一部の光のM段階の変調よりも粗であるN段階の強度で前記第1の低解像度画素アレイにより発せられた変調光を制御するように構成され、
前記第1の制御信号と前記第2の制御信号は、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの画素のサイズは、前記第2の高解像度画素アレイの画素のサイズよりも大きいような画素を制御するように構成され、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの各画素は、前記第2の高解像度画素アレイの複数の画素に共通であり且つ前記第2の高解像度画素アレイの複数の画素を照射するように構成され、前記第2の高解像度画素アレイを、画素の前記低解像度の各画素が前記第2の高解像度画素アレイの複数の画素に共通であるという事実に起因する影響を低減するように制御するように構成された、前記第2制御信号における調整を含む、
制御装置。 - 変調の段階数Mは、強度の段階数Nよりも大きい、請求項21に記載の制御装置。
- 前記第1の低解像度画素アレイは、前記第1の画素アレイの光の強度により前記第2の高解像度画素アレイにおいて滑らかに変化するように、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイのある画素からの光が、前記第1の低解像度画素アレイの近隣の画素からの光と重なるように配置される、請求項21に記載の制御装置。
