第1及び第2の空間光変調器の各々を駆動すべく接続された制御装置であって、第1の制御信号を供給して第1の空間光変調器の画素を制御することにより所望の画像の近似を提供し、第2の制御信号を供給して第2の空間光変調器の画素を制御することにより前記近似の画像を補正するように構成されている制御装置とを備え、
前記第2の空間光変調器において、前記第1の空間光変調器の複数の画素の各々によって変調された光の分布は、d 2 が第1の空間光変調器の近接する画素によって変調される光の分布について第2の空間光変調器上の中心間の距離であるときに0.3×d 2 〜3×d 2 の範囲の半値全幅を有する拡散関数を含む、表示装置。 - 前記制御装置は、第2の空間光変調器の前記画素を制御して、第1の空間光変調器の各画素が、第2の空間光変調器の複数の画素に共通であるということから生じる影響を低減するように構成される、請求項1に記載の表示装置。
- 前記制御装置は、第1の空間光変調器から第2の空間光変調器の各画素へ入射する光の強度を決定し、前記決定された強度に基づいて第2の光変調器の前記画素を制御するように構成されている、請求項1または2に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第1の制御信号は、第1の空間光変調器の前記画素に対応する画像領域の複数の所望の輝度値の平均、または、重み付けされた平均である輝度に寄与するように、第1の空間光変調器の前記画素の各々を制御する、請求項1〜3のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第2の制御信号は、第1の空間光変調器から第2の空間光変調器の画素上に照射された光の既知の強度で除算された所望の輝度値に基づく量により、前記画素に入射した光を変調するように、第2の空間光変調器の画素の各々を制御する、請求項4に記載の表示装置。
- 前記制御装置は、前記第1及び第2の制御信号を瞬時に生成するように構成される、請求項1〜5のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記制御装置は、前記所望の画像を定義する画像信号を受信するように更に構成され、前記第1及び第2の制御信号の少なくとも一つの少なくとも一部が前記制御装置による前記画像信号の前処理に基づく、請求項1〜6のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第1の空間光変調器の複数の画素の各々は、前記第2の空間光変調器上に光の分布を形成し、第1の空間光変調器の近接する画素から生じる、第2の空間光変調器上の光の前記分布は互いに重なり合う、請求項1〜7のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第2の空間光変調器は前記第1の空間光変調器より大きな面積を有する請求項1〜8のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第1及び第2の空間光変調器の各々の対応する前記画素の両方が、最大輝度を得るように設定された場合の表示スクリーン上の点の輝度と、第1及び第2の空間光変調器の各々の対応する画素の両方が、最小輝度を得るように設定された場合の表示スクリーン上の点の輝度との比が1000:1を超える、請求項1〜9のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第1及び第2の各空間光変調器の対応する画素の両方が、最大輝度を得るように設定された場合の表示スクリーン上の点の輝度と、第1及び第2の各空間光変調器の対応する画素の両方が、最小輝度を得るように設定された場合の表示スクリーン上の点の輝度との比が1500:1を超える、請求項1〜10のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第1の空間光変調器から投影される光を平行にするように配置されたコリメータを備える、請求項1〜11のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記コリメータはフレネル・レンズを含む、請求項12に記載の表示装置。
- 前記コリメータはホログラフィック・レンズを含む、請求項12に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第1の空間光変調器はカラー空間光変調器を含む、請求項1〜14のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第2の空間光変調器の各画素は、複数のカラー・サブ画素を含む、請求項1〜15のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記第1の空間光変調器と前記第2の空間光変調器との間に設けられた、1つ以上の追加された光変調段を含む、請求項1〜16のいずれか1項に記載の表示装置。
- 前記1つ以上の追加された光変調段の各々は、コリメータと、前置の空間光変調器により光が投影される空間光変調器とを含む、請求項17に記載の表示装置。
- 前記1つ以上の追加された光変調段の各々は拡散器を含む、請求項18に記載の表示装置。
- 方法であって、
制御可能な量の光を独立に投影するように構成される複数の画素を有する第1の空間光変調器と、制御可能な量の光を独立に透過するように構成される複数の画素を有する第2の空間光変調器とを備え、第1の空間光変調器の画素毎に、第2の空間光変調器は複数の対応する画素を有する、制御可能な表示装置を制御するための方法であって、
第1の空間光変調器の画素を制御して、所望の画像の近似を提供すること、
第2の空間光変調器の画素を制御して、前記近似の画像を補正すること
を備え、
前記所望の画像の近似は、d 2 が第1の空間光変調器の近接する画素によって変調される光の分布について第2の空間光変調器上の中心間の距離であるときに0.3×d 2 〜3×d 2 の範囲の半値全幅を有する拡散関数を含む、前記第1の空間光変調器の複数の画素の各々によって変調された光の分布を含む、方法。 - 第2の空間光変調器の画素を制御して、前記近似の画像を補正することは、第1の空間光変調器の各画素が、第2の空間光変調器の複数の画素に共通するという事実から生じる影響を低減することを含む、請求項20に記載の方法。
- 第1の空間光変調器から第2の空間光変調器の各画素へ入射する光の強度を決定すること、
前記決定された強度に基づいて第2の光変調器の前記画素を制御すること
を備える、請求項20または21に記載の方法。 - 第1の空間光変調器の画素の各々を制御して、第1の空間光変調器の前記画素に対応する画像領域の複数の所望の輝度値の平均、または、重み付けされた平均である輝度に寄与することを備える、請求項20〜22のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- 第2の空間光変調器の画素を制御して、第1の空間光変調器から第2の空間光変調器の画素上に照射された光の既知の強度で除算された所望の輝度値に基づく量により、前記画素に入射した光を変調することを備える、請求項23に記載の方法。
- 第1及び第2の空間光変調器を瞬時に制御することを備える、請求項20〜24のいずれか1項に記載の方法。
- 前記所望の画像を定義する画像信号を受信すること、
前記画像信号を前処理すること、
前記画像信号を前記前処理することの少なくとも一部に基づいて、前記第1及び第2の制御信号の少なくとも一つを制御すること
を備える、請求項20〜25のいずれか1項に記載の方法。 - 表示器制御装置であって、
第1の空間光変調器の複数の独立に制御可能な画素の光出力を制御し、
画素の第1のアレイによる発光により照射される第2の空間光変調器の複数の独立に制御可能な画素の光透過を制御するように接続可能であり、前記第1の空間光変調器の各画素に対して、前記第2の空間光変調器は複数の対応する画素を有し、
第1の制御信号を生成して第1の空間光変調器の画素を制御することにより所望の画像の近似を第2の空間光変調器に生じさせ、
第2の制御信号を生成して第2の空間光変調器の画素を制御することにより前記近似の画像を補正するように構成され、
前記第1の制御信号は、d 2 が第1の空間光変調器の近接する画素によって変調される光の分布について第2の空間光変調器上の中心間の距離であるときに0.3×d 2 〜3×d 2 の範囲の半値全幅を有する拡散関数を含む、前記第2の空間光変調器上に光の分布を有する前記所望の画像の前記近似を生じさせる、制御装置。 - 前記制御装置は、第2の空間光変調器の前記画素を制御して、第1の空間光変調器の各画素が、第2の空間光変調器の複数の画素に共通であるということから生じる影響を低減するように構成される、請求項27に記載の制御装置。
- 前記制御装置は、第1の空間光変調器から第2の空間光変調器の各画素へ入射する光の強度を決定し、前記決定された強度に基づいて第2の光変調器の前記画素を制御するように構成されている、請求項27または28に記載の制御装置。
- 前記第1の制御信号は、第1の空間光変調器の前記画素に対応する画像領域の複数の所望の輝度値の平均、または、重み付けされた平均である輝度に寄与するように、第1の空間光変調器の前記画素の各々を制御する、請求項27〜29のいずれか1項に記載の制御装置。
- 前記第2の制御信号は、第1の空間光変調器から第2の空間光変調器の画素上に照射された光の既知の強度で除算された所望の輝度値に基づく量により、前記画素に入射した光を変調するように、第2の空間光変調器の画素の各々を制御する、請求項30に記載の制御装置。
- 前記制御装置は、前記第1及び第2の制御信号を瞬時に生成するように構成される、請求項27〜31のいずれか1項に記載の制御装置。
- 前記制御装置は、前記所望の画像を定義する画像信号を受信するように更に構成され、前記第1及び第2の制御信号の少なくとも一つの少なくとも一部が前記制御装置による前記画像信号の前処理に基づく、請求項27〜32のいずれか1項に記載の制御装置。
