De esta manera, casi toda la luz emitida puede ser capturada y dirigida hacia el panel 209 de pantalla, dejando muy poca cantidad de luz perdida.
Además, y/o alternativamente, en algunos casos, el elemento reflectante 222 dispuesto en el lado del LED opuesto al sustrato 202, puede estar formado por un material que proporcione una superficie parcialmente reflectante, al tiempo que permanezca algo translúcido para así permitir que algunas emisiones 216 de luz pasen a través de la superficie reflectante y salgan a través del panel 209 de pantalla. Por ejemplo, la superficie reflectante puede estar formada por una capa muy delgada de plata (p. ej., menos de un espesor particular).
También se representa en la vista 212 de la Figura 2 las almohadillas conductoras 218 del LED 204B, que se utilizan para llevar a cabo la alimentación y unir el LED 204B al sustrato 202 a través de la traza 220 de circuito. La traza de circuito 220 puede formarse a partir de una tinta conductora dispuesta mediante serigrafía, impresión por inyección de tinta, impresión por láser, impresión manual u otros medios de impresión. Además, la traza 220 de circuito puede ser pre-curada y semi-seca o seca, para proporcionar estabilidad adicional, al tiempo que se pueda activar para fines de conductividad del dado. También se puede usar una tinta conductora húmeda para formar la traza 220 de circuito, o se puede usar una combinación de tinta húmeda y seca para la traza 220 de circuito. Alternativamente, o adicionalmente, la traza 220 de circuito puede formarse previamente como un traza de alambre, o de material fotograbado, o de material fundido formado en un patrón de circuito y posteriormente adherirse, incrustarse, o fijarse de otro modo, al sustrato 202.
El material de la traza de circuito 220 puede incluir, pero no se limita a, plata, cobre, oro, carbono, polímeros conductores, etc. En algunos casos, la traza de circuito 220 puede incluir una partícula de cobre recubierta de plata. El espesor de la traza 220 de circuito puede variar dependiendo del tipo de material utilizado, la función prevista y la resistencia o flexibilidad apropiada para lograr esa función, la capacidad de energía, el tamaño del LED, etc. Por ejemplo, un espesor de la traza de circuito puede variar de aproximadamente 5 micrómetros a 20 micrómetros, de aproximadamente 7 micrómetros a 15 micrómetros, o de aproximadamente 10 micrómetros a 12 micrómetros.
Con respecto a los elementos reflectantes del LED 204B, como se muestra en la vista 212, en algunos casos, el elemento reflectante 222 puede extenderse a través de una totalidad de un ancho del LED 204B, o alternativamente, un elemento reflectante 224 puede extenderse sustancialmente, o parcialmente, a través del ancho del LED 204B. Un elemento reflectante que se extienda a través de una totalidad del ancho del LED, o un elemento reflectante que se extienda solo parcialmente a través de un ancho del LED, se puede utilizar en cualquier lado del LED. Además, y/o alternativamente, ambos elementos reflectantes dentro de un LED pueden ser del mismo tamaño, y extenderse por todo el ancho del LED, o parcialmente a través del ancho del LED.
De forma similar a la Figura 2, un aparato 300 ilustrado en la Figura 3 incluye un sustrato 302 de circuito sobre el que se disponen múltiples LED 304A, 304B. Cada LED 304A, 304B incluye superficies reflectantes 306A, 306B. Un difusor 308 se alinea con los múltiples LED 304A, 304B adyacentes al sustrato 302, para anidarse con los múltiples LED 304A, 304B. En algunos casos, el sustrato 302 puede estar formado de un material que sea inherentemente reflectante. Alternativamente, puede no haber necesidad de un tercer elemento reflectante, ya que puede no ser deseable para una finalidad tecnológica particular. Por ejemplo, puede ser deseable que el sustrato 302 sea transparente o translúcido, para permitir algunas emisiones de luz a través del sustrato 302.
Como se representa en la Figura 3, un panel 310 de pantalla está dispuesto opuesto al sustrato 302, intercalando así el difusor anidado 308. Detalles adicionales mostrados en la Figura 3, incluyen variaciones de acoplar ópticamente los LED 304A, 304B al difusor 308, para mejorar la transmisión de luz de la luz que sale del LED y entra al difusor 308. En algunas realizaciones según la invención, hay relativamente poca distancia o separación entre los bordes de los LED y el difusor (en relación con el microtamaño de los LED). En otras realizaciones que no forman parte de la invención, no hay espacio o separación entre los bordes de los LED y el difusor. Por lo tanto, en la realización anterior, que no forma parte de la invención, el acoplamiento óptico se produce directamente entre las caras laterales de los LED y las paredes difusoras contiguas. Obsérvese que todas las figuras representan cierta separación mínima, en aras de la claridad en la descripción, para mostrar la distinción entre diferentes componentes. Sin embargo, las Figuras 2 y 6 pueden ser representativas de que no hay ningún hueco o separación entre el LED y el difusor.
Además, y/o alternativamente, en algunas realizaciones de la invención se incluye intencionalmente un espacio o separación entre el LED 304A y el difusor 308, en donde se incorpora un acoplamiento óptico diferente. En una realización de la invención, que incluye un espacio, el fósforo 330 se deposita en el LED 304A y alrededor de al menos los lados del LED 304A, para acoplar ópticamente el LED 304A y el difusor 308, al llenar el espacio y difundir las emisiones de luz antes de que las emisiones de luz entren en el difusor 308. El uso de fósforo es particularmente útil cuando se necesite luz blanca. En otra realización de la invención, que incluye un hueco, el material 340, tal como silicona, fósforo, etc., se deposita alrededor de los lados del LED 304b , para acoplar ópticamente el LED 304B y el difusor 308, al llenar el espacio y difundir las emisiones de luz antes de que las emisiones de luz entren en el difusor 308. Obsérvese que la cantidad de emisiones de luz representadas como pasando a través de una superficie superior de los LED 304A y 304B, son diferentes. Como se mencionó anteriormente, las superficies reflectantes 306A y 306B, entre los respectivos LED, pueden diferir en transparencia, variando desde completamente opaco, hasta permitir una cantidad deseada de luz a través del panel 310 de pantalla.
Además, el concepto estructural del difusor anidado (208, 308) está contemplado y configurado para usarse de varias maneras para la distribución de luz y difusión. Es decir, el difusor anidado puede implantarse sin un panel de pantalla, y es capaz de proporcionar luz difusa para dispositivos que no sean LCD. En algunos casos, el difusor anidado incluye LED anidados en las cavidades abiertas u orificios pasantes, como se representa en las Figuras 2 y 3. Además, y/o alternativamente, los LED u otras fuentes de luz pueden estar cubiertos, en uno o más lados, por el material del sustrato difusor. Además, en una realización ilustrativa que no forma parte de la invención, dicho difusor es el aparato 400 de la Figura 4. El aparato 400 incluye un sustrato difusor 402 que tiene incorporado, o anidado en el mismo, una fuente 404 de luz (p. ej., un LED). El espesor promedio del sustrato difusor 402 puede ser más delgado que la altura de la fuente 404 de luz (p. ej., que varíe de aproximadamente 12 micrómetros a aproximadamente 100 micrómetros, o de aproximadamente 25 micrómetros a aproximadamente 80 micrómetros, o de aproximadamente 35 micrómetros a aproximadamente 50 micrómetros, etc.). El sustrato difusor 402 puede moldearse o formarse de otra manera en la parte elevada 406, para cubrir la fuente 404 de luz en al menos un lado de la misma. Asimismo, un lado inferior de la fuente 404 de luz puede cubrirse, al menos parcialmente, por el sustrato difusor 402. La fuente 404 de luz 404 incluye almohadillas conductoras 408 con las que puede alimentarse la fuente 404 de luz.
Además, la fuente de luz 404 puede o no incluir uno o más elementos reflectantes como los representados en los LED 204A, 204B, 304A, 304B. Se contempla que el sustrato difusor 402 puede incluir elementos de textura (descritos más adelante en la presente descripción) para ayudar a difundir la luz emitida desde la fuente de luz. Por ejemplo, en algunos casos, el sustrato difusor puede ser tan grueso o más grueso que una altura de la fuente de luz anidada, y puede añadirse una textura a una superficie del sustrato difusor.
En consecuencia, la implementación del difusor anidado discutido en la presente descripción no se limita a su uso en una LCD, y el difusor anidado puede servir como una fuente de luz difusa plana o de sustrato, para una multitud de otros usos.
La Figura 5 representa una vista en planta de un LED 500. El LED 500 puede incluir una o más capas de material semiconductor 502 para la producción de luz. El LED 500 incluye, además, capas 504A, 504B de distribución de corriente que ayudan a proporcionar energía de forma segura al LED 500, cuya energía se conduce al LED 500 a través de las almohadillas conductoras 506A, 506B. En algunos casos, el material elegido para las capas 504A, 504B de distribución de corriente puede seleccionarse y disponerse con el material semiconductor 502, para funcionar como un primer elemento reflectante en uno de los lados del LED 500, mientras que el lado opuesto puede incluir un segundo elemento reflectante. Las capas 504A, 504B de distribución de corriente no se limitan al tamaño relativo representado en la Figura 5. Es decir, las capas 504A, 504B de distribución de corriente pueden ser más grandes o más pequeñas con respecto a las almohadillas conductoras 506A, 506B, dependiendo de las características de reflectividad deseadas y de los aspectos de funcionalidad requeridos. Además, un espesor de las capas 504A, 504B de distribución de corriente puede variar para aumentar o disminuir la reflectividad.
Una sección transversal lateral del aparato 600, como se representa en la Figura 6, incluye un sustrato 602 de circuito que tiene dispuesto sobre el mismo una matriz de LED 604 anidados dentro de un difusor 606. Los LED 604 de la matriz pueden ser LED según la presente solicitud, incluido un primer elemento reflectante y un segundo elemento reflectante (como se muestra, pero sin marcas). La separación de la distancia óptica Y entre el sustrato 602 con la matriz de LED 604 y un panel 608 de pantalla, puede variar dependiendo del espesor de los LED 604 y de la efectividad de la difusión a través del difusor 606. La matriz de LED 604 puede disponerse a través de una superficie del sustrato 602 de circuito en una matriz que tenga varias columnas y filas de LED 604. (Ver la Figura 8 para una vista en planta). La distancia X de separación de los LED entre el centroide de los LED adyacentes, puede variar dependiendo del tamaño de los LED 604 y de la efectividad de la difusión a través del difusor 606 y el panel 608 de pantalla. Obsérvese que la distancia X está, en última instancia, limitada por el ancho de los LED adyacentes. Además, la distancia Y está limitada finalmente por una altura del o de los LED en el sustrato 602.
En muchos casos, la separación de la altura entre el sustrato 602 y el panel 608 de pantalla está interrelacionada con la separación entre los LED 604 adyacentes. La interrelación varía dependiendo del número de LED utilizados, la efectividad de la difusión, el brillo deseado, el espesor deseado del dispositivo, etc. Finalmente, el objetivo es proporcionar una iluminación uniforme a través de una totalidad de la superficie del panel 608 de pantalla para un usuario, al tiempo que se minimice el número de LED, para ahorrar en coste y consumo de energía, y que se minimice la distancia Y entre el sustrato 602 y el panel 608 de pantalla, para mantener el espesor total de la pantalla lo más delgado posible. Generalmente, a medida que el valor de Y disminuye, el valor de X también disminuye, lo que significa que el número de LED en una matriz aumenta para iluminar uniformemente la pantalla, sin puntos de luz visualmente perceptibles.
Para minimizar el número de LED necesarios cuando se reduzca la distancia Y, se puede añadir una textura a la superficie y/o al cuerpo del difusor. Por ejemplo, en la Figura 7, una sección transversal lateral VII (véase la Figura 8) del aparato 700, representa un sustrato 702 de circuito con una matriz de LED 704 dispuestos sobre el mismo, anidados en un difusor 706. La distancia Y entre el sustrato 702 y el panel 708 de pantalla puede variar. En algunos casos, el difusor 706 puede incluir elementos 710 de textura. Los elementos 710 de textura pueden ser cóncavos hacia el sustrato 702, como se representa en la Figura 7, o pueden ser convexos (no mostrados). Además, y/o alternativamente, los elementos 710 de textura pueden incluir una combinación de estructuras cóncavas y convexas. Los elementos 710 de textura pueden organizarse en un patrón, o pueden disponerse aleatoriamente a través de la superficie o dentro del difusor 706.
Se observa que los elementos 710 de textura, representados como semicírculos en algunos casos, y depresiones alcanzadas en otros casos, en la Figura 7, pueden ser otras formas conocidas o aleatorias que sean efectivas para la difusión de la luz de los LED 704. Por ejemplo, los elementos 710 de textura pueden ser triangulares, piramidales, esféricos, rectangulares, hexagonales, etc. Las formas de los elementos 710 de textura en la Figura 7, son solo representativos de realizaciones ilustrativas que no forman parte de la invención. Además, aunque los elementos de textura representados en la Figura 7 aumentan en profundidad, así como en amplitud, dependiendo de la distancia alejada de los LED 704, en algunos casos, solo la profundidad o solo la amplitud puede variar para lograr una difusión uniforme de la luz. Por lo tanto, otros elementos de textura contemplados incluyen elementos que tienen la misma amplitud, pero aumentan la profundidad (p. ej., formas tubulares de anchos idénticos y profundidades crecientes en el difusor); y elementos que tienen la misma profundidad, pero aumentan la amplitud, (p. ej., depresiones similares a una torta de profundidad idéntica en el difusor, y aumento de la amplitud a través del difusor, que varía con la distancia desde una fuente de luz).
Además del uso de un primer y segundo elemento reflectante en los LED para difundir la luz emitida por los LED a través de un panel de pantalla, elementos de textura, tales como los descritos anteriormente, pueden funcionar en combinación con los elementos reflectantes, para proporcionar una superficie de pantalla iluminada más uniformemente. En algunos casos, como se ve en la vista en planta del difusor 706 en la Figura 8, el difusor 706 puede incluir una pluralidad de elementos 710 de textura. En la matriz, los elementos de textura mostrados en el difusor 706, círculos grandes 800, son representativos de la ubicación de los LED (no mostrado) anidados dentro del difusor 706.
Los círculos grandes 800 no indican necesariamente que la luz será más brillante en esa ubicación, sino que simplemente indica la fuente de distribución inicial de la luz emitida desde el LED anidado en el difusor 706.
Un elemento 802 de textura individual se representa como un círculo a una primera distancia radial desde el centroide de la ubicación del LED en un círculo grande 800. Otro elemento 804 de textura individual se representa como un círculo de tamaño diferente a una segunda distancia radial del centroide de la ubicación del LED en un círculo grande 800. Obsérvese que el elemento 804 de textura es más pequeño que el elemento 802 de textura. Además, en la serie 806 de elementos de textura, un patrón surge de que los elemento de textura más cercanos al LED (p. ej., el elemento 804 de textura) son más pequeños en tamaño que los elementos de textura radialmente más lejos del LED (p. ej., el elemento 802 de textura). Es decir, en algunos casos, a medida que aumenta la distancia entre un elemento de textura y un LED, el tamaño del elemento de textura puede aumentar, para capturar, y así difundir, más luz para proporcionar una iluminación uniforme a través de una totalidad del difusor 706 y el panel de pantalla superpuesto. En correlación, a medida que disminuye la distancia entre el elemento de textura y un LED, el tamaño del elemento de textura puede disminuir, para reducir la cantidad de luz que se esté capturando próximo a la fuente de luz.
Aunque en la Figura 8 aparece que los elementos de textura no se extienden a través de todo el difusor 706 (es decir, grandes huecos sin elementos de textura entre los LED), la ilustración de la Figura 8 solo pretende ser un ejemplo, y se representa como tal, para mayor claridad en la descripción y para evitar complicaciones en la representación. Sin embargo, como se muestra en el área 808, se contempla que los elementos de textura pueden extenderse continuamente a través de la totalidad del difusor 706. Obsérvese que, en algunos casos de LED adyacentes, el tamaño de los elementos de textura puede alcanzar un tamaño máximo, a aproximadamente mitad de camino entre dos LED adyacentes. Los elementos de textura mostrados en el medio del área 808, por ejemplo, pueden considerarse como de tamaño máximo, debido a su ubicación entre los LED lateralmente adyacentes. En aras de la claridad, dos LED pueden considerarse lateralmente adyacentes cuando no haya ningún LED intermedio anidado en el difusor entre ellos. Como tal, en la Figura 8, los LED se consideran adyacentes si se disponen diagonalmente, horizontalmente o verticalmente, separados entre sí.
Además, y/o alternativamente, como se indicó anteriormente, los elementos de textura pueden ubicarse aleatoriamente, mientras que se distribuyen uniformemente para mantener la uniformidad de difusión. La creación de los elementos de textura se puede lograr mediante grabado con láser, moleteado, moldeo, raspado, etc.
Realización ilustrativa de un método para formar un LED
Un método 900 para crear un LED según una realización ilustrativa que no forma parte de la invención, se representa en la Figura 9. El método 900 incluye una etapa 902 de formar un semiconductor. En algunos casos, la etapa de formar un semiconductor puede ser similar a las utilizadas para formar semiconductores convencionales para su uso como LED. En otros casos, se pueden realizar otras etapas. El método 900 incluye, además, una etapa 904 de creación de un primer elemento reflectante que tiene una superficie reflectante. El primer elemento reflectante se crea en un primer lado del semiconductor, de tal manera que la superficie reflectante refleje la luz hacia el interior del semiconductor. Además, en 906, se crea un segundo elemento reflectante que tiene una superficie reflectante. El segundo elemento reflectante se crea en un segundo lado del semiconductor opuesto al primer lado del semiconductor, de manera que la superficie reflectante del segundo elemento reflectante refleje la luz hacia dentro hacia el semiconductor y hacia el primer elemento reflectante.
En el método 900, el primer y segundo elementos reflectantes pueden estar formados de un material tal como aluminio, plata, TiO<2>, SiO<2>, HfO<2>, Ta2O5, o de un material reflectante basado en polímero difuso blanco. Además, uno o ambos elementos reflectantes primero y segundo pueden formarse en una capa muy delgada (p. ej., menos de una distancia umbral), de manera que el elemento reflectante sea translúcido en cierta medida, al tiempo que mantenga una superficie generalmente reflectante.
Realizaciones ilustrativas de un método de formación de un difusor anidado
Un método 1000 de crear un difusor anidado según una realización ilustrativa que no forma parte de la invención, se representa en la Figura 10. El método 1000 incluye una etapa 1002 de obtención de un sustrato difusor. En algunos casos, la etapa de obtener el sustrato difusor puede incluir etapas adicionales de creación de los elementos de textura discutidos anteriormente en el sustrato. La creación de los elementos de textura se puede lograr mediante grabado con láser, moleteado, moldeo, raspado, etc. Alternativamente, en algunos casos, los elementos de textura pueden haberse añadido previamente al sustrato difusor, o el sustrato difusor puede no incluir elementos de textura en absoluto. En otros casos, se pueden realizar otras etapas. El método 1000 incluye, además, una etapa 1004 de anidar uno o más LED dentro del sustrato difusor. La etapa 1004 puede ser realizada antes o después de unir los LED al sustrato de circuito. Además, en 1006, una etapa opcional de disponer el difusor anidado en un aparato LCD.
Conclusión
Aunque varias realizaciones se han descrito en lenguaje específico para características estructurales y/o actos metodológicos, debe entenderse que las reivindicaciones no se limitan necesariamente a las características o actos específicos descritos. Más bien, las características y actos específicos se describen como formas ilustrativas de implementar el objeto reivindicado.
Claims (13)
1. Un aparato (200; 300) que comprende:
un sustrato (202; 302);
una pluralidad de<L e D>(204A; 204B), cada LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B) teniendo un primer lado y un segundo lado, cada LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B) estando unido al sustrato (202; 302) a través de almohadillas conductoras (218) en el primer lado del LED, y cada LED incluyendo:
un primer elemento reflectante (206A; 306A), dispuesto adyacente al segundo lado del LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B), para reflejar la luz principalmente en una dirección hacia el sustrato (202; 302), y
un segundo elemento reflectante (206B; 306B), dispuesto adyacente al primer lado del LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B) que se opone al segundo lado del LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B), el segundo elemento reflectante (206B; 306B), dispuesto para reflejar la luz en una dirección alejándose del sustrato (202; 302); y
un difusor (208; 308) que tiene características de difusión de la luz alineadas con la pluralidad de LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B) contra una superficie del sustrato (202; 302), el difusor (208; 308) alineado para anidarse alrededor de al menos un LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B) de la pluralidad de LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B) en donde:una dimensión de espesor del difusor (208; 308) es igual a una dimensión de altura de la pluralidad de LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B), respectivamente; en donde el aparato (200; 300) de pantalla, además, comprende un acoplador óptico conectado directamente entre al menos un LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B) de la pluralidad de LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B) y el difusor (208; 308) para acoplar ópticamente al menos un LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B) y el difusor (208; 308) y emisiones de luz difusa, antes de que entren en el difusor (208; 308).
2. El aparato (200; 300) de pantalla según la reivindicación 1, en donde la pluralidad de LED (204A; 204B; 304A;
304B) incluye un primer LED y un segundo LED separados entre sí en el sustrato (202; 302), y en donde una parte del sustrato (202; 302), entre el primer LED y el segundo LED, incluye una superficie reflectante, para reflejar la luz en una dirección alejándose del sustrato (202; 302).
3. El aparato (200; 300) de pantalla según la reivindicación 1, en donde la pluralidad de LED (204A; 204B; 304A;
304B) incluye un primer LED y un segundo LED separados entre sí en el sustrato (202; 302).
4. El aparato (200; 300) de pantalla según la reivindicación 1, en donde el material del difusor (208; 308) incluye al menos uno de silicona, policarbonato (PC) o tereftalato de polietileno (PET).
5. El aparato (200; 300) de pantalla según la reivindicación 1, en donde el difusor (208; 308) está formado por una película de polímero moldeable.
6. El aparato (200; 300) de pantalla según la reivindicación 1, que comprende, además, una traza conductora dispuesta sobre el sustrato (202; 302), y conectada a las almohadillas conductoras (218) de cada LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B) de la pluralidad de LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B).
7. El aparato (200; 300) de pantalla según la reivindicación 1, en donde al menos uno del primer elemento reflectante (206A; 306A) o el segundo elemento reflectante (206B; 306B), se extiende, al menos parcialmente, a través de un ancho de al menos uno de la pluralidad de<L e D>(204A; 204B; 304A; 304B).
8. El aparato (200; 300) de pantalla según la reivindicación 1, en donde al menos uno del primer elemento reflectante (206A; 306A) o el segundo elemento reflectante (206B; 306B), se extiende a través de un ancho de al menos un LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B) de la pluralidad de LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B).
9. El aparato (200; 300) de pantalla según la reivindicación 1, en donde al menos uno del primer elemento reflectante (206A; 306A) o el segundo elemento reflectante (206B; 306B), se forma como una capa de dispersión de corriente.
10. El aparato (200; 300) de pantalla según la reivindicación 1, en donde un material de al menos uno del primer elemento reflectante (206A; 306A) o el segundo elemento reflectante (206B; 306B), es uno de aluminio, plata, TiO<2>, SiO<2>, HfO<2>, Ta2O5, o un material reflectante basado en polímero difuso blanco.
11. El aparato (200; 300) de pantalla según la reivindicación 1, en donde el difusor (208; 308) incluye elementos de textura.
12. El aparato (200; 300) de pantalla según la reivindicación 1, en donde una superficie del sustrato difusor incluye elementos de textura que se extienden circunferencialmente alrededor de al menos un LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B) de la pluralidad de LED (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B).
13. El aparato (200; 300) de pantalla según la reivindicación 12, en donde una profundidad y/o una amplitud de un elemento de textura particular, dispuesto a medio camino a lo largo de una distancia entre dos LED adyacentes (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B), es mayor que una profundidad y/o una amplitud correspondiente de un elemento de textura ubicado a menos de la distancia que está a mitad de camino entre dos LED adyacentes (204A; 204B; 304A; 304B).
