酸化セリウム(IV)組成物を下記の方法によって調製した。密閉された撹拌容器内で、1Lの0.12M硝酸セリウム(IV)アンモニウム溶液を、硝酸中に溶解させた硝酸セリウム(IV)アンモニウム結晶から調製し、約24時間にわたりおよそ90℃で保持した。別個の容器内で200mLの3M水酸化アンモニウム溶液を調製し、室温で保持した。引き続いてこれら2種の溶液を混合し、およそ1時間撹拌した。生じた沈降液を、ろ紙を装備したビュックナー(Buecker)漏斗を使用してろ過した。次に固体を脱イオン水を用いてビュックナー漏斗内で完全に洗浄した。洗浄/濾過工程後に、湿性水和物を3時間にわたりおよそ450℃のマッフル炉内で焼成して、酸化セリウム(IV)組成物を形成した。
ヒ素(V)を含有する試験溶液を、NSF/ANSI53「飲料水処理ユニット−健康への影響」規格文献のセクション7.4.1.1.3に規定されたNSF53ヒ素除去水についての指針にしたがって調製した。20mgの市販で入手できるセリウム(IV)酸化物(Ce2(CO3)3・6H2Oを焼成することにより調製されるとともにpH7で約16mVのゼータ電位、約pH8.8の等電点、約4μmの粒径D10、約30μmの粒径D50、約90μmの粒径D90、および約19nmの微結晶サイズを有するCeO2。マッフル炉内で2時間)を、500mL密閉ポリエチレン製容器内に入れ、表1〜8に記載した濃度で約500mLのヒ素試験溶液を用いてスラリー化した。生じたスラリーを、数時間にわたり容器を回転させることにより撹拌した。撹拌後、試験溶液を、0.45μm(ミクロン)のシリンジフィルタを通じたろ過により固体から分離した。ろ液を、125mLプラスチック製サンプルボトル内に密閉して認定飲料水分析研究所に送付し、そこで、各ろ液中のヒ素の量がICP質量分析法により決定された。これらの試験の結果は、以下の表9〜16に表示される。
セリウム(IV)組成物は、各初期濃度水準でより多くのヒ素を除去するだけではなく、その除去能力はまた、初期ヒ素濃度の増加に伴い先行技術のセリウム(IV)酸化物に比してより緩徐に低下する。これは、図1および2の線の各々の傾斜によって示されている。

(i)、(ii)、(iii)、(iv)、(v)および(vi)の1つ以上は、前記セリウム(IV)酸化物に対して当てはまらない、項2に記載の方法。

Claims (9)
- 水性流からヒ素を除去するための方法であって、
酸化セリウム(IV)組成物をヒ素含有水性流と接触させる工程であって、下記の(i)〜(v):
(i)前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、pH7で16mV以下かつ1mV超のゼータ電位を有する;
(ii)前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、1nm超かつ19nm未満の微結晶サイズを有する;
(iii)前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、0.0001酸点/kg超かつ0.020酸点/kg未満の酸点濃度を有する;
(iv)前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、pH8.8超の等電点を有する;および
(v)前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、前記ヒ素含有水性流中の440ppb以下のヒ素(III)初期濃度において、17.1mgAs(III)/gCeO2超のヒ素(III)除去能力を有する
が当てはまる、該工程を含み、
前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物を前記ヒ素含有水性流と接触させる前記工程は、ヒ素含有水性流からヒ素の一部を除去する、方法。 - 前記ヒ素は、亜ヒ酸塩およびヒ酸塩の一方または両方を含む、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、0.5〜5ppbの平衡亜ヒ酸塩濃度について亜ヒ酸塩に対する2.1〜6.0mg/gの負荷能力を有し、前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は0.5〜2.5ppbの平衡ヒ酸塩濃度についてヒ酸塩に対する0.1〜0.2mg/gの負荷能力を有する、請求項2に記載の方法。
- 下記(v)〜(viii):
(v)前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、pH7で、7.5mV超かつ12.5mV以下の前記ゼータ電位を有する;
(vi)前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、0.5μm超かつ4μm以下の粒径D10を有する;
(vii)前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、2μm超かつ20μm以下の粒径D50を有する;および
(viii)前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、12μm超かつ50μm以下の粒径D90を有する;
ことのうちの1つ以上が当てはまる、請求項1に記載の方法。 - 前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、Ce(IV)O2以外の希土類酸化物を含み、Ce(IV)O2以外の前記希土類酸化物は、前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物の40重量%以下を構成する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 酸化セリウム(IV)は、シリコン、チタニウムおよびジルコニウムのうちの1つ以上を含む任意の添加された非希土類物質を含まない、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、0.5〜5ppbの平衡亜ヒ酸塩濃度について亜ヒ酸塩に対する2.1〜6.0mg/gの負荷能力を有する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、0.5〜2.5ppbの平衡ヒ酸塩濃度についてヒ酸塩に対する0.1〜0.2mg/gの負荷能力を有する、請求項1に記載の方法。
- 水性流からヒ素を除去するための方法であって、
酸化セリウム(IV)組成物をヒ素含有水性流と接触させる工程であって、下記条件(i)〜(v):
(i)前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、pH7で16mV以下かつ1mV超のゼータ電位を有する;
(ii)前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、0.0001酸点/kg超かつ0.02酸点/kg未満の酸点濃度を有する;
(iii)前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、pH8.8超の等電点を有する;
(iv)前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、下記(a)〜(c):
(a)0.5μm超かつ4μm以下の粒径D10を有する;
(b)2μm超かつ20μm以下の粒径D50を有する;および
(c)12μm超かつ50μm以下の粒径D90を有する;
の少なくとも1つを満たす;並びに
(v)前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物は、前記ヒ素含有水性流中の440ppb以下のヒ素(III)初期濃度において、17.1mgAs(III)/gCeO2超のヒ素(III)除去能力を有する;
が当てはまる、該工程を含み、
前記酸化セリウム(IV)組成物を前記ヒ素含有水性流と接触させる前記工程は、ヒ素含有水性流からヒ素の一部を除去する、方法。
