Description

成形研磨粒子を形成または調達した後、該粒子は、他の材料と合わされて固定研磨物品を形成することができる。いくつかの好適な例示的な固定研磨物品として、成形研磨粒子が接着材料の三次元マトリクスに含有されている接着研磨物品、および成形研磨粒子が裏打ちを覆う単一層に分散されて、1つ以上の接着層を用いて裏打ちに接着されていてよい被覆研磨物品を挙げることができる。粒子は、裏打ちと合わされて被覆研磨物品を形成することができる。

5つのサンプルを用いて、比較の粉砕操作を行った。5つのサンプルは、各々、裏打ちおよび接着層を含む本質的に同じ構造を用いたが、これらのサンプルは、研磨粒子のタイプが異なった。第1サンプル、サンプルS1は、本明細書に記載されている実施形態による成形研磨粒子のブレンドを含む被覆研磨材を表す。サンプルS1は、およそ500μmのメジアン内部高さを有する複数の第1タイプの成形研磨粒子を含む。ブレンドは、およそ400μmのメジアン内部高さを有する複数の第2タイプの成形研磨粒子をさらに含む。ブレンドは、およそ2.3の比(C1/C2)を有する。ブレンドの成形研磨粒子の約80%が、裏打ちにおいて所定の側方配向で位置付けられており、40lbs./リームの正規化された成形研磨粒子重量を有する。
Claims (15)
- 第1高さ(h1)を含む、第1含量(C1)の第1タイプの成形研磨粒子、
第1高さ未満の第2高さ(h2)を含む、第2含量(C2)の第2タイプの成形研磨粒子
を含む研磨粒子ブレンドを含む固定研磨物品であって、
高さ比(h2/h1)が、少なくとも0.2かつ0.98以下であり、
前記第1含量が、前記ブレンドの全含量の少なくとも1%かつ70%以下であり、
前記第2含量が、前記ブレンドの全含量の少なくとも1%かつ98%以下である、固定研磨物品。 - 高さ比(h2/h1)は、少なくとも0.5かつ0.9以下である、請求項1に記載の固定研磨物品。
- 少なくとも1μmかつ2mm以下の高さ差(h1−h2)をさらに含む、請求項1に記載の固定研磨物品。
- 前記第1タイプの成形研磨粒子が第1長さ(l1)を含み、前記第2タイプの成形研磨粒子が第2長さ(l2)を含み、少なくとも0.05かつ10以下の長さ比(l1/l2)をさらに含む、請求項1に記載の固定研磨物品。
- 前記第1含量が前記第2含量より少ない、請求項1に記載の固定研磨物品。
- 前記第1含量が、前記ブレンドの全含量の少なくとも25%かつ35%以下であり、前記第2含量が、前記ブレンドの全含量の少なくとも50%かつ75%以下である、請求項5に記載の固定研磨物品。
- 10以下のブレンド比(C1/C2)をさらに含む、請求項1に記載の固定研磨物品。
- 前記ブレンド比(C1/C2)が、少なくとも0.1である、請求項7に記載の固定研磨物品。
- 前記ブレンドが、成形研磨粒子を含む第3タイプの研磨粒子をさらに含む、請求項1に記載の固定研磨物品。
- 前記固定研磨物品が、接着研磨物品、被覆研磨物品、およびこれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される、請求項1に記載の固定研磨物品。
- 前記研磨粒子ブレンドが複数の成形研磨粒子を含み、複数の成形研磨粒子の各成形研磨粒子が、裏打ちに対して制御された配向に配置されており、前記制御された配向が、所定の回転配向、前記裏打ちの横軸に対する成形研磨粒子の配向として定義される所定の横配向、および前記裏打ちの縦軸に対する成形研磨粒子の配向として定義される所定の縦配向の少なくとも1つを含んでいる、請求項1に記載の固定研磨物品。
- 前記第1タイプの研磨粒子の大部分が、側方配向で前記裏打ちに結合されており、前記第2タイプの研磨粒子の大部分が、側方配向で前記裏打ちに結合されており、前記側方配向は、前記成形研磨粒子の側面が前記裏打ちの表面に最も近くなる成形研磨粒子の配向として定義される、請求項11に記載の固定研磨物品。
- 前記第1タイプの成形研磨粒子が、長さ(l)、幅(w)、および高さ(hi)を有する本体を含み、幅≧長さ、長さ≧高さ、かつ幅≧高さであり、前記本体が、長さおよび幅によって定義される平面において見たときに二次元の多角形を含み、前記本体が、三角形、四角形、矩形、台形、五角形、六角形、七角形、八角形、およびこれらの組み合わせからなる群から選択される形状を含む、請求項1に記載の固定研磨物品。
- 前記本体が、窒化物、酸化物、炭化物、ホウ化物、酸窒化物、ダイヤモンド、およびこれらの組み合わせからなる材料群から選択される多結晶材料を含む、請求項13に記載の固定研磨物品。
