本明細書で使用するところの「成形研磨粒子」とは、少なくとも部分的に複製された形状を有する研磨粒子を意味する。成形研磨粒子を製造するための非限定的なプロセスは、所定の形状を有する成形型中で前駆体研磨粒子を成形する工程、所定の形状を有するオリフィスから前駆体研磨粒子を押し出す工程、所定の形状を有する印刷スクリーンの開口部から前駆体研磨粒子を印刷する工程、又は前駆体研磨粒子を所定の形状若しくはパターンにエンボス加工する工程を含む。成形研磨粒子の非限定的な例としては、米国再発行特許第RE 35,570号、米国特許第5,201,916号、及び同第5,984,998号に開示されるような三角形の板状粒子、又は、その一例が米国特許第5,372,620号に開示されるセント・ゴベイン・アブレイシブズ社(Saint-Gobain Abrasives)により製造される、しばしば円形の断面を有する細長のセラミックロッド/フィラメント、又は角錐などの形状に成形された、結合剤と多数の研磨粒子とを含む成形研磨複合材料が挙げられる。
本明細書において使用するところの「ほぼ水平な」とは、完全な水平方向の±10°、±5°、又は±2°の範囲内を意味する。
本明細書において使用するところの「ほぼ垂直な」とは、完全な垂直方向の±10°、±5°、又は±2°の範囲内を意味する。
本明細書において使用するところの「ほぼ直交する」とは、90°の±20°、±10°、±5°、又は±2°の範囲内を意味する。
本明細書において使用するところの「z方向の回転配向」とは、粒子の長手方向軸を中心とした回転角度のことを指す。粒子の長手方向軸は、粒子が静電力によって空気中を移送される際に電場と整列する。
実施例1〜5は、本発明の異なる実施形態を実証するものである。すべての実施例について、標準的なフェノール系メーク層コーティング及び標準的な基材を使用した。すべての実施例について、三角形の板状粒子からなる成形研磨粒子のオープンコートをメーク層がコーティングされた裏材上に発射した。成形研磨粒子は、米国特許出願公開第2010/0151196号の開示に従って調製した。成形粒子は、各辺の長さが0.054インチ(1.37mm)、成形型の深さが0.012インチ(0.3mm)の正三角形の形状のポリプロピレン成形型キャビティーからアルミナゾルゲルを成形することによって調製した。乾燥及び焼成後に得られた成形研磨粒子は、約570マイクロメートル(最も長い寸法)であり、30メッシュのシーブを通過するものであった。静電コーティング装置の機械設定は以下の通りであった。すなわち、線速度=12.5フィート/分(3.81m/分);振動式フィーダーの設定=200〜350(「SYNTRON Model FT01」、エフ・エム・シー・テクノロジーズ社(FMC Technologies)テキサス州ヒューストン);印加電圧=5kv±1kv;出口トラフと導電性部材接地バーとの間の隙間=0.375インチ±0.125インチ(0.95cm±0.32cm);出口トラフの下縁を接地バーの中心と整列;並びに接地バーの直径は0.375インチ(0.95cm)。2次粒子は付着させる場合、グレード80の粉砕アルミナ粒子とした。機械の設定値を様々に変更することによって、下記表1に示すような実施例1〜5の代表的な実施形態とした。
Claims (2)
- 粒子供給面を規定する出口トラフを有する振動式粒子フィーダーであって、前記粒子供給面を振動するように動作可能な振動式粒子フィーダーと、
前記粒子供給面から離間した導電性部材と、
前記粒子供給面を帯電させて、前記粒子供給面と前記導電性部材との間に静電場を発生させる電位差と、
前記粒子供給面と前記導電性部材との間にウェブを案内するためのウェブ経路と、
を備える、装置。 - 前記粒子供給面が、前記粒子供給面と前記導電性部材との間の隙間を通って前記ウェブを案内する前記ウェブ経路に対してほぼ直交している、請求項1に記載の装置。
