相关技术背景

发明内容
本发明公开了用于内容传输的系统和方法。该系统包括至少一个数据通信网络和通信地耦合到该至少一个数据通信网络的客户端装置。客户端用户装置可被配置为生成装置用户的标记。内容服务器被通信地耦合到该至少一个数据通信网络，并可被配置为将主要的、辅助的和/或主要和辅助的内容传输到前述客户端装置。内容的某些部分可以至少部分地由装置用户的标记确定。还可以实现用于跟踪和反馈的各种装置。

图2示出了根据本发明实施例提供广告旋转的装置(例如客户端装置130)的示例性示意图。图2的示意图200可以在任意数目的客户端装置130中实现，包括但不限于便携式媒体装置或蜂窝电话、诸如视频游戏控制台的家庭娱乐系统和包括台式和膝上型计算机的任意多种在线游戏装置。
示例性客户端示意图200包括系统控制205、媒体控制210和外设控制215。系统控制205可以负责基本系统操作，诸如启动、图形再现、输入/输出控制等等。媒体控制210可负责处理包括广告旋转的各种音频和视频格式。外设控制215可负责各种外设与装置的接口。
硬件、软件、计算机可执行指令的各种组合(例如程序模块和引擎)可关于系统控制205、媒体控制210和外设控制215来使用。程序模块和引擎包括可以执行特定任务或实施特定抽象数据类型的例行程序、程序、对象(object)、组件、数据结构等。计算机可执行指令和相关联的数据结构代表编程装置的例子，用于执行这里公开的方法步骤并实现特定的系统配置。
如图2所示的系统控制205包括中央处理单元(CPU)220、主存储器225、图形处理单元(GPU)230、声音处理单元(SPU)235、输入/输出处理器(IOP)240和1OP存储器245。各种控制(205，210和215)和其中的各种组件(例如CPU220和主存储器225)可以通过一系列专用和共享的总线被通信地耦合。

AV解码器250可被配置为解压缩和/或解码可由外设控制215引入的各种媒体。解压缩的媒体可在装置130进行再现和/或可听发射之前被暂时存储在eDRAM(未示出)中。广告引擎255的功能在图3的上下文中被更详细地讨论。
如图2所示的外设控制215控制可存在于客户端装置130上的任意各种外设输入/输出。例如，装置130可采用可通过闪存接口260引入的闪存。光盘接口265可提供用于通过任意各种光盘，诸如CD-ROM或DVD-ROM引入数据，但是还可包括所有权格式，诸如来自索尼公司的通用媒体盘。外设控制215可进一步包括USB2.0接口270，其可包括迷你型-B接口。客户端装置130还可包括WLAN接口275，使得装置130可与其它利用802.11x无线协议的计算装置交换数据。

图3示出了图2(255)中最初公开的示例性广告引擎300。广告引擎300可包括或被耦合到可选的广告缓存310、简档管理模块320、广告选择模块330和反馈模块340。如图3中所示的广告引擎300可被配置为管理广告旋转。
广告缓存310可以是被配置为存储数据的任何大容量存储器装置(例如eDRAM)。包括应用程序和其它程序模块的计算机可读指令或数据都可被存储在广告缓存310中。广告缓存310可被用于存储和检索辅助内容，诸如可以由辅助内容服务器104提供的广告。
存储在广告缓存310中的内容可被编码，其将会需要AV解码器250(图2)的干预来再现或处理该内容。AV解码器250可包括一系列用于压缩和/或解压缩内容的编解码器(包括存储在广告缓存310中的辅助内容)。
在一些例子中，接收的内容可能溢出广告缓存310。这种“多出的”内容可通过闪存接口260而被存储在诸如闪存卡的本地辅助存储装置或记忆棒TM上。图1的服务器网络110中并可能在辅助内容服务器104和/或简档管理服务器108处实现的某些智能可操作地用于防止出现溢出和对辅助数据存储的需要。例如，简档管理服务器108(具有客户端130能力的认知)可与辅助内容服务器104联合工作，以确保存储器对于基于个人管理数据来存储新内容和/或报告特定装置130统计是可用的。
在某些实施例中，由于缺少存储，广告缓存310可拒绝接受新内容，或者可采用先进先出(FIFO)配置，由此旧的内容被从缓存或存储器中刷新以便为新内容腾出空间。某些实施例可采用广告选择器330，与服务器网络110的各种服务器联合起来，以便智能地将某些内容安置在广告缓存310中(例如低优先权内容)，以便为将要进来的高优先权内容腾出空间。
简档管理模块320可被配置为从装置用户获得简档管理数据，维护关于该装置的特定简档管理数据，和/或将特定的简档管理数据与例如简档管理服务器108进行交换。装置130的用户可以利用前述用户ID、屏幕名称或者访问该装置130的特殊用户的一些其它标识来登陆或注册(sign on)。该信息的输入可通过手动键盘、虚拟键盘(如可以被显示在装置的屏幕上)、语音识别、生物统计学、视觉简档识别等等发生。特殊的识别装置因此将需要特定硬件和/或软件来处理该识别信息(例如用于语音输入的语音识别模块、用于生物统计学输入的指纹阅读器、用于视觉简档识别的USB-照相机)。用户ID可以伴随有密码或也可不用密码，所述密码可以以相似的方式输入。
简档管理模块320可维护先前已经被输入到装置上的用户ID库。简档管理模块320可允许通过识别用户ID最前面的几个字母并自动完成用户ID或提供与部分输入的用户ID相对应的用户ID下拉列表，来实现对某用户ID信息的“快速输入”。简档管理模块320还可被配置为接受新用户ID的输入并提供相同内容的存储。
简档管理模块320可被进一步配置为只允许装置访问特定的用户ID列表。可替换地，简档管理模块320可被配置为基于特定用户ID，提供对某装置功能的限制性访问。例如，任何用户都能够访问装置上的时间和日期信息，但是可能被禁止访问通信网络，由此为播放而付费(pay-for-play)内容可能会被访问或下载。简档管理模块320可被进一步配置为基于用户ID和密码的特定组合，识别和接受/拒绝访问到各种特征或功能。简档管理模块320还可提供对某些特征或功能的中间或试用访问，直到新用户ID访问的全体范围被诸如装置主人的验证用户ID所确认。简档管理模块320还可存储关于用户ID特定偏好的某些数据。例如，一个特定用户可能偏好某种屏幕配置，而另一用户可能偏好另一特定配置。
简档管理模块320可被配置为控制与简档管理服务器108(图1)进行简档管理数据的交换。用户可以在装置的登陆事件期间提供用户ID(和密码)。在验证了特定用户(正如与特定用户ID相关联的)被授权访问装置和其上的某些功能和特征之后，简档管理模块320可以建立与简档管理服务器108的链路，以指示前面提到的用户出现。简档管理模块320可利用前面存在的通信链路或例如响应于用户已经提供了简档管理数据，即他们的用户ID，致使WLAN接口275启动链路。
前面提到的与简档管理服务器108的通信链路不需要被建立任何特定的时间段。数据交换可能发生按照其必需的长(或短)的时间。网络拥塞的测量可以确定通信链路是否可以被保持，正如各种响应时间所测量的(例如通过网络“脉冲信号(ping)”)。装置(例如便携式装置)中的电池能量也可以决定通信链路能够维持多长时间。尝试登陆到简档管理服务器108的客户端装置的数量也可以决定通信链路是否维持一段延长的时间。例如，如果很大数量的客户端装置试图访问简档管理服务器108，则简档管理服务器108为了接受新的连接请求，可以在进行了简档管理数据的必要交换之后，终止通信链路。
一旦在简档管理服务器108处接收到来自简档管理模块320的简档管理数据，简档管理服务器108就可以访问关于特定用户的某些信息(例如与特定用户ID相关联的用户简档)。简档管理数据(例如用户ID)与简档管理服务器108处的用户简档之间的关联性可以以多种方式发展。
例如，用户可以通过任何数目的接口来手动发展用户简档，包括从其中提供简档管理数据的装置。在生成用户ID之后，用户可以响应于检查表(checklist)或其它形式的询问(例如用户调查)来提供某些个人偏好。该信息然后可以自动地填充用户简档的某些部分(例如关于性别、年龄、收入等)或由人来分析，或者被自动处理，以便基于积累的知识基础来识别特定的人口统计状况。
用户还可在简档管理服务器108处通过可耦合到简档管理服务器108的互联网接口来发展简档。同样的问题可以通过互联网接口而被安排，好像它们存在于前面提到的装置上。通过桌面或膝上型计算机(其可能具有更加可管理的键盘或接口)的响应比试图通过便携式装置、蜂窝电话或家庭娱乐系统进行数据输入更简单。
用户简档还可以通过更传统的方式，诸如手动填写并寄回给数据输入实体的客户端卡而被发展。通过电话调查收集的信息还可通过负责维护简档的一方或通过第三方数据采集代理而被输入到用户简档。还可在没有用户直接知识的情况下通过例如信用报告和经由信用卡活动(例如数据挖掘)而观察到的购买习惯或甚至通过基于来自DVR或其它媒体装置的回放历史生成的数据来采集简档数据。
一旦在特定客户端装置处识别出特定用户的存在，则简档管理服务器108将会与主要内容服务器102(图1)和/或辅助内容服务器104(图1)通过网络102(图1)、LAN或者通过某些其它直接通信方式(例如通过点对点连接)来共享用户简档。通过该用户简档或与该内容相关的某些信息的接收，主要内容服务器102和辅助内容服务器104最好被通知什么内容应当被传输到客户端装置处的用户，以便最大化用户的媒体体验。简档管理服务器108还会接收关于用户已经访问的特定装置的信息(例如简档管理数据可包括用户ID和装置标识)。如果特定装置不能处理特定形式的内容，该内容将不会被传输给该装置(例如该装置处的AV解码器不能支持特定的编码格式)。内容的特定选择和传输还在图5的上下文中描述。
在某些实施例中，登录时提供的用户ID也可被传输给反馈服务器106。可替换地，简档管理服务器108可以通知反馈服务器106特定用户现在在线。反馈服务器106然后可以开始保持或更新关于特定用户的反馈简档，传输给用户和/或用户请求的特定主要内容，和/或可以在提供给用户和/或用户观察到的某些辅助内容中被广告的特定产品和/或服务。该反馈简档和其中的反馈数据可以被各种内容提供商、制造商和服务提供商所利用。反馈数据还可被简档管理服务器108利用，使得用户简档被更新，以指示通过用户反馈观察到的新偏好。例如，用户可能不再喜欢特定产品，该特定产品起初通过到现在已有六个月之久的调查响应被指示为是所喜欢的。
广告选择模块330可被配置为确定被存储在广告缓存310中的哪些广告由实现广告旋转的装置再现。广告选择模块330可以基于例如某种识别信息(诸如辅助数据中的某种报头信息)来识别广告缓冲310(或其它存储装置)中的特定辅助数据内容(例如广告)。例如，如果要被再现的内容刚好是用于在网页浏览器中浏览的HTML格式，则辅助数据内容可能包括如下报头信息，该报头信息读为：

辅助内容可以以各种任意格式提供。这样，对HTML报头的当前引用将不会被解释成限制广告选择模块330识别存储在广告缓存310中的内容所使用的方式。可替换的识别数据或元数据可以被使用，诸如引用特定辅助内容选择的查询表。识别数据/元数据还可被广告选择模块330用于处理辅助内容选择，包括再现、去除等等。
与辅助(和主要)内容相关的各种识别信息可以反映诸如再现生命周期的内容项。内容可被再现特定次数、一天内的一定次数、关于一定内容的一定次数等等。一旦该特定内容片段到达其生命周期终点，该内容可被自动删除或变为“不保护”，使得其可以被新进来的内容覆盖。在“每天”限制的情况下，内容可在被调用时再现，直到特定内容选择到达它的“每天”限制。该特定内容选择然后不能被再次再现，直到新的生命周期开始(例如下一天)。某些内容可服从很多项的限制，诸如一天再现两次但总共不超过二十次的限制。
其它内容可以具有实际的期满日期，使得当特定日期或时间到来时，该内容被删除或者被其它内容覆盖。在某些实施例中，内容可以像新闻广播那样是连续的。在这些例子中，内容可以保持可用，直到更多的更新内容可以得到。例如，5PM新闻可用于再现无限制的次数，直到6PM新闻可以得到，这时，5PM新闻将被删除或者不受保护并且易受到被新的内容(例如6PM新闻)覆盖。
期满和其它的生命周期数据可以由广告选择模块330跟踪，使得当做出什么广告接下来将会被再现的广告选择时，该信息被考虑。广告选择模块330可进一步跟踪广告被再现的最后时间，使得当其它内容在广告缓存310中可用时，同样的广告不被紧接着连续再现。广告选择模块可被配置为维护广告的平滑旋转，这些广告服从下面讨论的某些优先权。
服从版权和其它数字权利管理(DRM)业务(concern)的某些内容可以被保存以用于将来观看，尽管期满日期等到来。例如，用户可以找到特定的有趣商业广告并希望即使在其初始的生命周期期满之后仍能够观看。在一些例子中，某些内容可转移到可移动存储器，从而其可以被传输到其它装置并在其它装置中使用。某些内容还能够被发送到其它受到某些版权和DRM限制的装置(例如有病毒的视频)。
一些内容可以具有嵌入在其识别信息中的优先权指定。例如，装置可以在广告缓存310中具有两个目标性辅助内容选择。广告选择模块330然后可以寻找，看是否有一条内容具有比另一条内容更高的优先权(例如，广告客户已经支付了附加的费用来确保其内容在其它内容之前被看到)。如果没有给出优先权或者内容具有相同的优先权，则广告选择模块330可缺省为随机选择。
如果广告选择模块330已经确定特定的一条内容已经到达了其期满日期或者其生命周期的终结，则广告选择模块330可使装置发出对新的辅助内容的请求。在主要内容(其还可以由广告选择模块330或具有相似功能但以另外方式专用于主要内容的相似软件模块管理)的情况下，新的主要内容可被请求。广告选择模块330可保留做出该请求，直到特定的一条内容已经实际期满。可替换地，选择模块330可预计内容的期满并提出请求(服从存储器可用性)，以便当较旧的内容期满时新内容可立即用于接下来的再现。
对新内容的请求可发生在当用户不使用该装置时，从而其它活动(例如自组织(ad hoc)游戏网络)所需的带宽不被内容下载所消耗。某些高优先权内容可以要求在某些内容期满时立即下载。下载还可以只发生在当从主要或辅助内容服务器102/104通知新内容实际可用时。该通知可以通过SMS传输、单个分组传输或由服务器或服务器网络110中其它装置发起的一些其它有限带宽通信发生，用于由装置130接收并另外用信号通知新内容(辅助的、主要的或两者都有)的可用性。
正如将会在图4的上下文中进一步讨论的，由装置从例如光盘，通过流传输解决方案，或通过下载播放访问的主要内容可包括触发数据。触发数据可向广告选择模块330指示主要内容中的特定点已经到达，其中辅助内容的选择、加载和/或再现可以是适当的。用于插入辅助内容的适当点的例子可包括电视节目中插播广告(commercial break)可能发生的点，在DVD的情况下是“章节”的结尾，在音乐选择中的曲目(track)之间，或者在视频游戏例子中新级别的加载。
触发数据可指示特定类型的辅助内容将要被再现(例如正如在这里进一步讨论的通用(预先确定的)或目标性辅助内容)。响应于与触发数据相关联的指令，广告选择模块330可基于报头或其它识别信息的预览，从广告缓存310或某些其它存储介质中检索适当的内容。适当的辅助内容然后被“插入”，如触发数据所指示的。触发数据还可包括某些关于诸如时间限制、淡入和淡出的辅助内容插入的限制，关于某些辅助和主要内容结合的禁止等等。
触发数据还可指示识别被辅助内容同时覆盖的一部分主要内容。在该例子中，主要内容可以是电影。触发数据可以造成商业广告或某些其它辅助内容的“触发”。在一些例子中，辅助内容可被插入到场景之间或者在主要内容的一些其它点上。然而，在该特定例子中，触发可以指示辅助内容应当被覆盖在主要内容之上。在该例子中，辅助数据(诸如广告)可以与主要内容并发地被再现/显示。
辅助内容可以有比主要内容更高的分辨率，以便从主要内容中显得突出。相似地，辅助内容可以比主要内容更亮。在一些例子中，主要内容可以在清晰度或亮度方面被减小，并且辅助内容保持其它方面的“标准”质量或亮度。辅助内容相对于主要内容来说也可以是较小的清晰度或亮度。关于分辨率、亮度或辅助内容的任何其它特征的指令可以是触发数据的一部分，或者是辅助数据中指示用于显示该数据的正确格式的报头文件的一部分。该信息还可包括用于显示该内容的特定位置。
在将辅助内容覆盖在主要内容之上的实施例中，辅助内容可以是静止图像，以避免过度地将观看者从主要内容中转移注意力。尽管这样，可以具有多帧的辅助内容(例如从滑动显示类型的呈现到全部运动视频)，其关于主要内容被同时覆盖。主要和/或辅助内容中的某些报头数据可以指示某些辅助内容是否可与主要内容联合显示。例如，主要内容提供商可以支付额外费用来确保其内容不被特定类型的内容打断。同样地，辅助内容提供商可以支付额外费用来确保其内容被再现，而不管辅助内容(例如静止帧或视频)和其上被覆盖的主要内容的性质。
辅助内容还可以是没有音频的，从而当辅助内容关于主要内容被再现时，用户的收听体验不被中断。可替换地，用户能够利用某些控制装置(例如控制按钮、触摸垫、游戏柄等)来控制辅助内容的音频小于或大于主要内容或者一起被消音。在某些实施例中，被覆盖的内容可利用关闭的字幕来避免干扰主要内容的音频轨道。然而在一些实施例中，两个音频轨道(辅助的和主要的)可被同时回放，作为再现/显示过程的一部分。
在一些实施例中，触发数据(或内容中的报头数据)可指示辅助内容将靠近主要内容显示。这种安排会造成在内容回放中产生专用广告空间。例如，屏幕的顶部部分可被识别为广告区，由此辅助广告内容关于主要内容被并排显示(但不被覆盖)。如关于被覆盖内容所讨论的前面提到的对音频、闭合字幕等的控制同样适用于并排的内容。
触发数据(和/或内容中的报头数据)还可包括关于内容的指定坐标再现的指令。这些坐标可适用于覆盖内容且并排显示内容。并且，该坐标信息可提供用于将辅助内容直接插入到主要内容环境中(或者至少用于生成将辅助内容直接插入到主要内容环境中的外表)。例如，主要内容可以显示纽约城时代广场上的很多布告板。具有坐标信息的辅助内容和主要内容与这些信息的的关联性可以识别布告板被定位在主要内容的哪里。辅助广告内容然后可被直接“插入”和“集成”到主要内容环境，从而辅助广告看起来像主要内容的真实部分。
在又一个实施例中，内容的报头数据和触发数据均可包括关于辅助内容对主要内容的安排的指令。这些指令在一些例子中会相互冲突。例如，触发数据可指示作为广告的辅助内容的下一个再现选择应该使用属于分辨率等的某些参数而被覆盖在主要内容上。然而，辅助内容的报头数据可指示主要内容应当被重定比例，以便腾出空间用于显示器中专用的广告空间，由此可放置滚动的标语类型(banner-type)的广告。
在这些例子中，触发和/或报头数据可包括关于在冲突数据的情况下，哪种设置应当支配的指示。例如，辅助内容的一种选择可以总是服从冲突触发数据指令。类似地，触发数据可以总是服从报头数据。在其它例子中，触发、主要的和/或辅助数据可以具有某些优先权指示，使得付费电影胜过五秒钟广告，但是服从将在结合广告旋转功能的所有媒体装置上再现的全国广告购物。在一些例子中，决定可以是随机的。例如，在一个例子中，特定广告的报头数据可以胜过与触发数据相关联的特定指令。在接下来处理触发数据以再现辅助数据的过程中，十分相同的商业广告将服从触发数据。
反馈模块340可被配置为维护从广告缓存310加载并在装置上再现的辅助内容记录。反馈模块340可被进一步配置以维护与辅助内容的再现有关的其它形式的信息。例如，反馈模块340可记录特定辅助内容选择被播放的次数，辅助内容被播放的日期和时间，以及是否存在与辅助内容有关的“查找”活动(例如暂停、快进和倒回)。与“查找”有关的信息可指示辅助内容的“喜欢”或“不喜欢”部分。该信息还可与特定用户相关联，并且如果合适的话，特定装置再现该辅助内容。
在一些实施例中，辅助内容可以是独立于主要内容而可被访问的。例如，用户可以独立于任意更大的电视节目而观看商业广告。如果用户独立地查找以访问这种内容，则除了前面提到的关于时间、日期、寻找等的信息之外，反馈模块340还可记录辅助内容的独立访问。
由反馈模块340生成的反馈数据还可指示某些辅助内容是否被完全跳过或者只是被部分观看。在本发明的一些实施例中，反馈模块340可以采用如名称为“Advertising Impression Determination”的美国专利申请号11/241,229中描述的印象确定功能，该申请的公开在这里通过参考被引入。当客户端装置是视频游戏控制台时，印象确定功能可以是特别相关的，并且视频游戏环境中的各种目标可能排除对某些辅助内容的实际观看。

由反馈模块340生成的反馈数据可以被本地地存储在装置上并在适当的时间被发送到反馈服务器106。例如，反馈数据的发送可以发生在简档管理数据的传输期间。反馈数据可以是这次发送中集成或独特的数据集。可替换地，反馈数据可在网络连接存在但没有内容或其它数据在装置和其它数据点之间被有效地交换时被发送。并且，反馈数据可在数据的生成之后，在特定的主要或辅助内容的观看之后，或者在来自网络连接的停止活动过程期间而被立即发送。反馈数据可以每次在与发送有关的带宽消耗不会与其它时间敏感或点播数据的交换干扰时被发送(例如在用户当前想要观看的主要内容的下载期间)。
一旦被反馈服务器106接收到，反馈数据就会通过自动过程(例如响应于特定的数据群体(population)格式)或通过由知识基础做出的某些推断被集成为反馈简档。人的交互还可以关于处理和利用反馈记录和反馈简档发生。该信息可被利用作为评估由各方应付的费用或给与各方的费用。例如，费用应付给广告客户，用于代表特定客户的成功广告活动。费用还由用户付给，用于观看付费的主要内容。
反馈数据还可包括在客户端处通过反馈模块340被生成作为问答会话部分的信息。例如，反馈服务器106可独立地或作为特定辅助(或主要)内容的一部分附加调查或一些其它交互反馈数据集。该数据集可被反馈模块340翻译，以在客户端装置处生成交互式调查(例如“你想要购买这个产品吗？”或者“这个电影是不是太暴力了？”)。
所有前面提到的反馈数据可以与负责监视简档管理服务器108的实体集成或共享。在一些实施例中，某些服务器功能可被集成，包括反馈服务器106和简档管理服务器108。被输入到反馈简档中的反馈数据可以与用户简档在简档管理服务器108处集成，或者关于该用户简档被观察。以这种方式，用户简档可以被保持最新，以确保特定用户和/或装置正在接收最相关和适当的内容(主要内容和辅助内容)。例如，如果响应于由反馈模块340再现的调查，用户指示他们不喜欢特定演员，该信息将被用于在简档管理服务器108处更新用户简档，以确保与特定用户ID相关联的用户不再接收该特定演员主演的电影。
图4是包括与辅助内容相关联的触发的主要内容的示例性说明。辅助内容可包括通用的、目标性的和/或环境专用的内容。块形式的主要内容只是用于说明目的，而不是要向数据施加任何正式结构。
如上注意到的，主要内容410可包括电影、电视节目、在线视频节目、互联网无线电、各种任意音频文件、视频游戏(其可通过网络或直接在客户端装置处被访问)等等。主要内容可以包括单一的名称或选择(例如单首歌曲、单个视频节目或者单个视频游戏名称或者其部分)。主要内容还可包括节目的集合(例如完整的唱片、电视节目的几段情节、可另外出现在DVD上的单一视频的不同“章节”或者视频游戏的各种级别)。
主要内容410可被触发数据450间断地“打上标记”。触发数据450是由广告选择模块330识别的作为访问和准备特定辅助内容用于回放的指示的数据结构。当主要内容410被例如AV解码器250处理时，触发数据450的出现将会被广告选择模块330处理，从而适当的内容可从广告缓存310或某一其它存储介质中检索。广告选择模块330与AV解码器250联合，然后可以使得适当的辅助内容被解码器250从缓存310中处理，从而辅助内容看起来被无缝地“插入”到主要内容410中。
例如，用户可通过在便携媒体装置上从DVD观看前面提到的Seinfeld连续剧(即主要内容410)的一段情节。电视上的连续剧自然具有一系列商业广告插播。不是永久地将DVD(其很快就会变得过时)上的特定商业广告嵌入到这些固有商业广告插播区域中，内容提供商可以将上述的触发数据450插入，该触发数据反映这是插入商业广告(例如辅助内容)的适当位置。
例如，电视节目的一段情节可能有七分钟，在这段时间内的一点上，触发数据450被媒体控制210通过AV解码器250和广告引擎255，特别是广告选择模块330检测。在这种情况下(假设图4反映前面提到的Seinfeld的情节)，第一触发数据450的出现可以反映需要加载针对环境特有(context-specific)的辅助内容430。广告选择模块330响应于该特定触发，可以然后访问广告缓存310，以找到特定的针对环境特有的辅助内容430选择。关于针对内容特有的辅助内容430的哪个选择的某些相关计算也可被做出(例如如果有两个或更多选择)。
由广告选择模块330识别的针对内容特有的辅助内容430的特定片段然后可以从广告缓存310或其它存储介质加载到用于解码的AV解码器250，并由GPU230再现在装置上。在针对内容特有的辅助内容430的特定片段终止时，主要内容410将会继续被再现，就像电视节目正在从商业广告返回。
该过程可以通过再现特定的主要内容410片段来重复其本身，其中接下来的触发数据450指示有必要识别、加载和再现其它内容，诸如如图4所反映的通用辅助内容420和/或目标性辅助内容440。
针对环境特有的辅助内容430可以代表某种方式上在环境上与主要内容410有关的内容。例如，如果主要内容410是喜剧，则与环境有关的辅助内容可以是用于接下来也是喜剧的电影的电影宣传片。可替换地，辅助内容可以是与主要内容410有关的生产线上的产品的广告(例如当前正在被观看的系列节目的另外的DVD，诸如在DVD上正要到来的那一季Seinfeld)。可替换地，针对环境特有的辅助内容430可以是电影的预览，该电影的演员恰好出现在现在观看的主要内容410中。针对环境特有的内容430可以是在某种方式上与当前正在客户端装置上被观看或收听的主要内容410有关的任何内容。
另一方面，通用辅助内容420可以代表不考虑个人偏好或主要内容410的性质而接收的内容。例如，通用辅助内容420可以是与客户端装置的制造者有关的商业广告。可替换地，广告可以来自正被用于传输主要和辅助内容的网络提供商(例如ISP或无线网络提供商)。可替换地，通用辅助内容420可以是来自生产将要被观看的主要内容410(例如电影预览)的电影制片厂的商业广告。通用辅助内容420可以是与特定语境决定或用户偏好无关并且在内容提供商对终端用户选择处提供的任何内容。
目标性辅助内容440可以代表根据用户的特定好恶而被传递的内容。例如，如果用户碰巧喜欢浪漫喜剧，则该用户可接收到代表也是用于浪漫喜剧的电影预览的目标性辅助内容440。如果用户碰巧是体育迷，则目标性辅助内容440可以是本地棒球队赛季球票的广告。某些不喜欢也可以被考虑到目标性辅助内容中。例如，如果特定用户不喜欢“成年人”娱乐，用户简档(如可由简档管理模块320、简档管理服务器108以及在某些情况下是反馈模块340和反馈服务器106生成和/或控制)可有助于确保没有“成年人”相关的内容被传输到该用户。
在一些实施例中，主要内容410可以只带有嵌入的触发数据450而被传输，所述触发数据450与辅助内容的特定类型有关(例如通用的420、针对环境特有的430和目标性的440)。在其他实施例中，主要内容410可以具有各种形式的被嵌入其中的辅助内容(例如带有主要内容410的DVD和一系列实际上永久嵌入的商业广告)。该被永久嵌入的辅助内容将最终变得过时。在这种情况下，触发数据410可以反映新辅助内容要被插入以高效地“重写”较旧的辅助内容。这种永久性嵌入内容的“重写”可以服从较新的辅助内容可用性或者如触发数据450识别的原始嵌入的辅助内容的期满。在这种情况下，AV解码器250可以被指示“跳过”起初嵌有主要内容410的旧的辅助内容。可替换地，AV解码器250可被指示简单地不解码和再现较旧的内容而是再现较新的辅助内容。
用于“插入”新辅助内容的各种方式被公开在Kan Ebisawa专利族中：美国专利号6,882,978的“Apparatus and Method for Executing a GameProgram Having Advertisement Therein”；美国专利号6,782,533的“Encrypted Start Signal for Game with Data Substitution inOriginal Data and Means for Limiting Execution”；和美国专利号6,640,336的“Game Machine System，Broadcasting System，DataDistribution System and Method，Program Executing Apparatus andMethod.”这些专利的公开在这里通过引用作为参考。
触发数据450可以被嵌入在主要内容410选择的临时中间或开头。通过前面对触发数据450的识别，辅助内容可以在该内容被实际需要之前，被广告选择模块330从广告缓存310中选择出来，使得辅助内容被解码并准备好只要主要内容410结束就会被显示。如果直到实际需要时辅助内容还没有被检索、解码和缓存，则一些设备就会在主要内容410的结束与适当辅助内容的显示之间经历处理延迟(例如停滞(deadair))。在一些情况下，所有用于特定主要内容410片段的触发数据450都在主要内容410的恰好开始时被识别。在其它实施例中，触发数据450可以按照需要被识别和处理，其可以包括闲置(on the fly)的触发或者在实际再现之前加载内容的预想触发。
触发数据450还可以包括与主要内容410和/或要与其相关地再现的辅助内容有关的各种其它信息片段。触发数据450可指示主要内容410只被延迟特定的一段时间，以允许显示辅助内容。例如，如果全长特征的电影正在被观看，则主要内容410提供商(例如电影发行商)会想要在场景之间有最小的延迟。这样，触发数据450可以反映特定类型的辅助内容要被选择(例如目标性辅助内容440)，并且该辅助内容在长度上不长于20秒。这样，如果可以得到辅助内容的多个选择，一个是45秒，另一个是10秒，则广告选择模块330就会检索在该情况下合适的辅助内容(即长度上是10秒的内容)。触发数据450关于某些辅助内容的处理和插入可以是具有指导性的，如同它指示用于该内容的需要一样多。
触发数据450还可以反映对要被显示的内容类型的某些限制。例如，一个电影制片厂可能不想要在其电影期间被广告的竞争电影制片厂的产品。这样，触发数据450可以反映对选择辅助内容的广告选择模块330的某些禁止。
相似地，广告选择模块330可以选择或拒绝基于例如来自简档管理模块320的数据而显示的特定辅助内容片段。如果两个用户与装置相关联，例如父母和孩子，则不同类型的内容(主要和辅助)可能被该装置接收(例如诸如G级电影的与孩子有关的内容和诸如R级电影的与成人有关的内容)。广告缓存310可能具有与同时在存储器中的两个用户有关的辅助内容(例如R级电影预览和G级电影预览)。基于反映当前装置用户并通过简档管理模块320所识别的简档管理数据，特定的辅助内容选择将会为特定用户做出。如果触发数据450指示需要加载目标性辅助内容440，则广告选择模块330就会咨询简档管理模块320关于装置的当前用户(或者可能信息先前已经传送给广告选择模块330)，以确定现在广告缓存310中各种目标性辅助内容440选择中的哪个应当被检索、解码和再现。
图5示出了表格形式的示例性用户简档500，其包括各种优选的、预先确定的、接受的和拒绝的内容偏好。图5中所示的用户简档500可以是存储在简档管理服务器108(图1)上或在反馈服务器106(图1)处的反馈简档环境中的简档。用户简档500可以在选择和传输适当主要和辅助内容给用户的环境中被使用。
用户简档500可通过用户进行的交互式选择或偏好识别，通过反馈服务器106采集的反馈数据，或通过第三方源(例如购买记录等)来发展。图5的示例性用户简档500示出了用户偏好的几种示例性分类：优选的内容510、可接受的内容530和拒绝的内容540。第四种分类：预先确定的内容520，其具有较低的用户定义的偏好(例如喜欢或不喜欢)，但是是关于用户或他们的装置的某些条件确定的。

图5示出了一系列内容分类550，其中有“体育”和“动作”。内容分类550可以包括内容的各种类型、品牌或分类，并可由诸如实际内容提供商、网络提供商或工业标准组等多种实体定义。在图5的例子中，用户简档500指示了特定用户喜欢体育内容和动作内容。这样，用户可以接收到与体育事件和激烈的动作或冒险活动有关的主要和辅助内容，因为该内容已经在适当的服务器(例如主要内容服务器102或辅助内容服务器104)处被相似地识别。
内容分类550还可服从补充分类560。例如，“体育”可以代表宽范围的不同类型的体育运动。通过使用补充分类560，较宽的分类可变得更精确。例如，“体育”可被分为“棒球”、“足球”和“篮球”。
对于附加在特定内容分类550上的补充分类560的数目没有限制。例如，“体育”可被分到“棒球”，如上所述。“棒球”可被进一步分为“职业的”、“国际的”、“小职业球队联盟”或“

”。“职业的”甚至可被进一步分为特定的球队，例如“Texas Rangers”或“SanFrancisco Giants”。补充分类560越详细，最终基于特定简档500传输给用户的内容就越准确。
如图5的上下文中所示出和讨论的关于内容分类550和补充分类560可暗示为没有特定的组织、结构或分层。例如，补充分类560不意味着被限制为“脚注”引用。图5是为了讨论的目的而表示，为了有助于提供对本发明范围的更好理解。
接受的内容530可以代表用户不一定想要但另外也不拒绝接收的内容。然而，接受的内容530还包括某些方面的优选内容510。接受的内容530可进一步在拒绝内容540的环境下理解。拒绝的内容540可以代表用户由于他们不感兴趣(例如单身的成年人对于孩子的动画电影)或者他们对该内容具有特殊的拒绝(例如成人或色情内容)而不想接收的内容。
如果用户将特定内容识别为拒绝的内容540，则用户将不会接收到该内容。然而，用户可能被限制关于用户可能识别为拒绝内容540的内容的总体分类。例如，不希望接收到任何商业广告的用户可能在试图拒绝接收任何辅助内容的过程中可以想象地将所有内容分类为拒绝的内容540。在这个方面，用户只能将特定数目的内容类型识别为拒绝的内容540。一些实施例可以提供用于辅助内容拒绝选项，这里对于额外的收费或者一些其它形式的考虑，诸如接收直接邮寄或电话调查或较低质量的内容(在目录和视觉/可听质量方面)，用户能够拒绝将辅助内容(或特别的广告)发送到他们特定的客户端装置。这种特征可以通过用户简档500或在主要或辅助内容服务器102/104处的某一识别来控制。
预先确定的内容520可以代表用户将要接收到的而不管个人偏好的内容。由于该内容对于接收者来说是通用的(即它可以被网络中的所有接收者普遍地接收)，预先确定的内容通常与产品或服务的非常具体的范围相关(例如，用户已经访问的装置或用户正在用于数据交换所使用的通信网络)。这种窄的集中可以实现，以便避免穿过进入到用户会认为讨厌的产品或服务中。例如，预先确定的内容可以总体上避免与讨厌的内容相关联，诸如色情或者其它产生极端和感情意见的产品或服务。
在一些例子中，某些实体可能进入具有相似意向的组织的联合品牌的机会。例如，特定的网络提供商(其通常提供访问装置的网络)可进入与发展无线路由器或“网络加速器”的公司的联合品牌关系。虽然这些产品可能对用户来说没有特别的兴趣，他们却具有与网络提供商可识别的共同的兴趣(即改善的网络条件)，因此预先确定的内容520可以与该第三方制造商/服务提供商相关联，以便作为通用内容传输。

最终被传输的内容基于用户简档500中的一个或更多数据分类550。例如，传输的内容可以只与优选的内容510有关，或者可以是服从被拒绝内容540的接受内容530。不同类型内容的各种交叉引用也可以发生，使得被拒绝内容540的某些补充分类560不被不经意地传输，因为它们也可能落入被接受内容530的分类中。例如，用户可能想要动作电影但不想要性的内容。如果动作电影中有性的内容，则用户简档500和管理该简档的智能就会确定在内容传输方面是否一个因素压倒另一个因素。关于内容传输的决定会发生在各种内容服务器(102/104)或简档管理服务器108处。某些决定还可能“向外征求”第三方，其具有返回到各种用于实现的服务器的数据分析。反馈模块340(图3)及其与反馈服务器106(图1)的交互还会影响用户简档500的发展和由内容服务器102/104传输给用户的所得到的内容。
由反馈模块340生成并传输到反馈服务器106的反馈数据可以在登广告者对某些内容或网络提供商的报酬中起到作用(例如如果内容被观看，则付给适当的报酬)。该记录也会影响到前面提到的用户简档500的发展，其中如果特定用户连续观看某些内容(例如有特定演员的电影)，则在重复观看构成暗含的对内容的接受或拒绝(可能是一种情况)或者甚至暗含优选内容510的指示的方面，该信息会开始影响到用户简档500的状态。简档500的这些改变可能是自动的，或者服从在逐变化(change-by-change)的基础上用户给出明确许可，或者服从一些其它用于要求关于用户简档500变换的周期。用户还可以进一步授权许可，使得用户简档500可以在不要求同样内容的适当性的情况下被管理，或者可替换地，对可以进行的变化类型授权某种许可。例如，对接受的内容530的改变可以被自动允许，但可以在没有表达来自用户授权的情况下不改变拒绝的内容540。
图6示出了根据本发明的一个实施例，用于选择和传输内容到装置的示例性方法600。在步骤610中，用户和/或装置通过用户ID、装置ID或者一些其它形式的和/或识别信息的组合而被识别。被识别的用户可与用户简档相关联，用户简档可被存储在简档管理服务器108(图1)。
简档管理服务器108处的用户简档可以反映各种用户偏好，如图5中示例性用户简档500中所看到的。基于用户简档，特定内容(主要和/或辅助)可被识别用于在步骤620中传输给该用户。例如，如果如他们的用户简档500所反映的，用户偏爱体育，则用户可从辅助内容服务器104(图1)接收到与体育有关的辅助内容。虽然用户通常明确地识别他想要观看的主要内容，用户简档500可被用于自动地传输随机的主要内容，或者提供“建议的”主要内容列表以便用户选择。

在可选步骤640中，反馈数据可基于除前面描述的某些印象确定之外的各种观看和访问活动而被生成。该反馈数据可被传输到反馈服务器106(图1)用于进一步分析。在可选步骤650中，用户简档500可根据前面提到的反馈数据和/或适当的其它简档管理数据而被更新。该更新的用户简档500可被用于识别将来对内容的选择，以便传输给用户。
在一个实施例中，广告引擎255可以是预先安装在客户端装置上的软件模块，其被原始设备制造商(OEM)传输。然而在一些例子中，用户可以寻求在传统装置(legacy device)上享受广告旋转功能，诸如较老的便携式媒体装置、较老的家庭娱乐系统或蜂窝装置。
在这些包括传统客户端装置的情况下，广告引擎255会构成下载的软件应用，其可以伴随主要内容服务器102(图1)的初始访问。例如，用户可以尝试联系用于特定主要内容标题的主要内容服务器102。主要内容服务器102可以在初始数据交换过程中或者通过访问简档管理服务器108来识别出请求装置当前没有其中不存在简档的广告引擎255，或者识别出某些识别数据尚未被主要内容服务器102接收。在这些情况下，广告引擎255软件应用可被附加到主要内容(或者主要内容的一部分)的传输上，使得内容再现也造成软件模块的自动安装(例如通过自运行脚本)，或者要求该模块的手动执行和安装在实际内容被再现之前进行。
虽然简档管理模块320、广告选择模块330和反馈模块340都可以作为软件组件下载，但是缓存(即广告缓存310)不能是“可下载的”。在本发明的实施例中，其中广告引擎255和相关联的广告旋转功能在装置制造之后被下载，软件下载可包括这样的指令，该指令标注装置中存储器的某些部分要被保留用于广告旋转，尤其是用于旋转的广告存储。

Claims (35)

1.一种用于显示主要和辅助内容的设备，包括：
至少一个主要内容源，该主要内容包括多个触发数据点，每个触发数据点指示用于识别、检索和插入关于主要内容的辅助广告内容的点；
广告选择模块，其被配置为识别存储在存储器中的辅助广告内容，该识别响应于处理主要内容中的触发数据，并基于与该设备当前用户的用户简档相关联的信息而发生，其中触发数据点的随后处理导致不同辅助广告内容的识别，且用户简档包括关于主要或辅助内容的用户偏好；
解码器，其被配置为检索和解码存储器中并由广告选择模块识别的辅助广告内容，以便关于主要内容插入；和
耦合到所述解码器的图形处理单元，该图形处理单元被配置为再现主要内容和解码的辅助广告内容，其中根据触发数据的指示，辅助广告内容相对于主要内容而被插入。

识别存储在存储器中的辅助广告内容，该识别响应于处理主要内容中的触发数据，并基于与内容显示装置当前用户的用户简档相关联的信息而发生，其中触发数据点的随后处理导致不同辅助广告内容的识别，且用户简档包括关于主要或辅助内容的用户偏好；
在内容显示装置上检索和解码识别的辅助广告内容，其中辅助广告内容基于用户简档而被识别；和
在内容显示装置上再现主要内容和辅助广告内容，其中根据由显示装置处理的触发数据，辅助广告内容相对于主要内容被插入，其中响应于内容显示装置对触发数据接下来的处理，辅助广告内容的不同选择被显示。
22.根据权利要求21所述的方法，进一步包括响应于用户与辅助广告内容的交互，生成反馈数据。
23.根据权利要求21所述的方法，进一步包括响应于反馈数据，更新反馈简档。
24.根据权利要求23所述的方法，进一步包括利用反馈简档来更新用户简档，该用户简档包括关于用于传输给显示装置的辅助广告内容的将来识别的用户偏好。
25.一种内容传输网络，包括：
主要内容服务器，其被配置用于将主要内容传输到客户端装置，其中该主要内容包括触发数据，每个触发数据点指示用于识别、检索和插入关于主要内容的辅助广告内容的点；
辅助内容服务器，其被配置用于将辅助内容传输到客户端装置；和
客户端设备，包括：
广告选择模块，其被配置识别传输到客户端设备的辅助内容，该识别响应于处理主要内容中的触发数据，并基于与客户端装置当前用户的用户简档相关联的信息而发生，其中响应于触发数据的处理，辅助内容被客户端装置显示，并且触发数据每次接下来的处理导致辅助内容的不同选择的显示；
解码器，其被配置检索和解码存储器中并由广告选择模块识别的辅助广告内容，以便关于主要内容插入；和
耦合到所述解码器的图形处理单元，该图形处理单元被配置为再现主要内容和解码的辅助广告内容，其中根据触发数据的指示，辅助广告内容相对于主要内容而被插入。
26.根据权利要求25所述的内容传输网络，其中触发数据与通用辅助内容相关联。
27.根据权利要求25所述的内容传输网络，其中触发数据与目标性辅助内容相关联。
28.根据权利要求25所述的内容传输网络，其中触发数据与针对环境特有的辅助内容相关联。
29.一种用在内容显示装置中的内容解码器，该内容解码器包括：
用于从可访问媒体显示装置的存储器中检索并解码辅助广告内容的装置，该辅助广告内容被广告选择模块识别，该辅助广告内容用于关于正在被再现在内容显示装置上的主要内容进行插入；和
用于向耦合到内容解码器的图形处理单元提供指令的装置，该指令识别如何将解码的辅助广告内容关于主要内容进行再现，其中该指令对应于在主要内容中触发数据的指示。
30.根据权利要求29所述的内容解码器，其中触发数据的指示识别主要内容中两个场景之间的间断，以便插入辅助广告内容。
31.根据权利要求29所述的内容解码器，其中触发数据的指示识别出主要内容的一部分，以便同时覆盖辅助广告内容。
32.根据权利要求29所述的内容解码器，其中触发数据的指示包括由图形处理单元为重定比例主要内容而执行的指令，由此主要内容靠近辅助广告内容而被同时显示。
33.根据权利要求29所述的内容解码器，其中触发数据的指示包括由图形处理单元在主要内容中辅助广告内容的基于坐标的布置而执行的指令。
