(b)前記基板に配置された少なくとも2つの連続した薄膜層であって、互いに異なる屈折率を有する、少なくとも2つの連続した薄膜層と、
(c)前記少なくとも2つの連続した薄膜層に亘って配置されたワイヤグリッド層であって、光の波長よりも長い長さと該光の波長の半分より短い周期とを有する細長い金属要素のアレイを備える、ワイヤグリッド層と、
を備え、
前記少なくとも2つの連続した薄膜層のうち少なくとも1つは、前記基板の屈折率より大きい屈折率を有し、
前記少なくとも2つの連続した薄膜層の1つは、誘電要素のアレイを有する誘電グリッドを備え、
前記少なくとも2つの連続した薄膜層の他の1つは、前記ワイヤグリッド層と前記誘電グリッドを備える少なくとも2つの連続した薄膜層の1つとの間に配置され、

- 光を偏光させるためのワイヤグリッド偏光子デバイスであって、
(a)基板と、
(b)前記基板に亘って配置され、光の波長よりも長い長さと該光の波長の半分より短い周期とを有する細長い金属要素のアレイを備える、ワイヤグリッドアレイと、
(c)前記ワイヤグリッドアレイの上方又は下方に配置され且つ異なる屈折率を有する異なる材料から形成された、誘電要素の少なくとも2つの異なる誘電アレイであって、前記屈折率の少なくとも1つは、前記基板の屈折率よりも大きい、誘電アレイと、
を備え、
(d)前記誘電アレイの誘電要素と前記ワイヤグリッドアレイの金属要素とは、互いに略平行に方向付けられ、
(e)構造及び材料が均一であって、前記少なくとも2つの誘電アレイの少なくとも1つ及び前記ワイヤグリッドアレイの間に配置された、少なくとも1つの薄膜層を備えた、ワイヤグリッド偏光子デバイス。 - 前記デバイスは、紫外光を偏光させるための紫外光偏光子であり、
前記細長い金属要素のワイヤグリッドアレイは、150nmよりも小さい周期を有する、請求項14に記載のワイヤグリッド偏光子デバイス。 - 前記誘電アレイの材料は、テルル化カドミウム、ゲルマニウム、テルル化鉛、酸化シリコン、テルル、二酸化チタニウム、シリコン、硫化カドミウム、セレン化亜鉛、硫化亜鉛、又は、前記した材料の組み合わせから作られる、請求項15に記載のワイヤグリッド偏光子デバイス。
- 前記デバイスは、可視光を偏光させるための可視光偏光子であり、
前記細長い金属要素のワイヤグリッドアレイは、200nmよりも小さい周期を有する、請求項14に記載のワイヤグリッド偏光子デバイス。 - 前記誘電アレイの材料は、テルル化カドミウム、ゲルマニウム、テルル化鉛、酸化シリコン、テルル、二酸化チタニウム、シリコン、又は、前記した材料の組み合わせから作られる、請求項17に記載のワイヤグリッド偏光子デバイス。
- 前記デバイスは、赤外光を偏光させるための赤外光偏光子であり、
前記細長い金属要素のワイヤグリッドアレイは、5,000nmよりも小さい周期を有する、請求項14に記載のワイヤグリッド偏光子デバイス。 - 光を偏光させるためのワイヤグリッド偏光子デバイスであって、
(a)基板と、
(b)前記基板に亘って配置され、光の波長よりも長い長さと該光の波長の半分より短い周期とを有する細長い金属要素のアレイを備え、該金属要素の間にギャップを形成する、ワイヤグリッド層と、
(c)前記ワイヤグリッド層に亘って配置され、互いに境界付けられた複数の誘電グリッド層であって、該誘電グリッド層の少なくとも1つは、誘電材料要素のアレイを備えている、複数の誘電グリッド層と、
を備え、
(d)前記誘電材料要素のアレイと前記金属要素のアレイとは、互いに略平行に方向付けられ、実質的に等しい周期を有する、ワイヤグリッド偏光子デバイス。 - 前記誘電要素のアレイ及び前記細長い金属要素のアレイは、実質的に等しい周期を有する、請求項1に記載のワイヤグリッド偏光子デバイス。
- 前記誘電要素のアレイ及び前記細長い金属要素のアレイは、異なる周期を有する、請求項1に記載のワイヤグリッド偏光子デバイス。
