Description
本發明係關於機械扣件及扣件原料,且詳言之,係關於包含α/β鈦合金之扣件及扣件原料。
本申請案為部分接續申請案,本案根據35 U.S.C.§ 120主張2010年9月23日申請且名稱為「高強度α/β鈦合金扣件及扣件原料(High Strength Alpha/Beta Titanium Alloy Fasteners and Fastener Stock)」之同在申請中之美國專利申請案第12/888,699號的優先權,該案之整體揭示內容以引用的方式併入本文中。
鈦合金通常展現高強度重量比,耐腐蝕且在中等高溫下抗蠕變。因此,鈦合金用於航天及航空應用中,包括例如起落架部件、機架及機械扣件。
減輕飛行器之重量可節約燃料,且因此,航天工業具有極大的動力來減輕飛行器重量。鈦及鈦合金由於其強度重量比高而為飛行器應用中達成重量減輕的吸引人的材料。目前,鈦合金扣件用於需求較少之航天應用中。在鈦合金不展現足以滿足應用之特定機械要求的強度之某些航天應用中,使用較重之鐵及鎳基合金扣件。
航天應用中所用之大多數鈦合金零件由Ti-6Al-4V合金(ASTM 5
級;UNS R56400;AMS 4965)製成,其為α/β鈦合金。小直徑Ti-6Al-4V扣件原料(亦即直徑小於0.5吋(1.27cm)之扣件原料)之典型最小規格為如根據ASTM E8/E8M-09(「Standard Test Methods for Tension Testing of Metallic Materials」ASTM International,2009)所測定之170ksi(1,172MPa)極限拉伸強度(UTS),及如根據NASM 1312-13(「Method 13-Double Shear」,Aerospace Industries Association-National Aerospace Standard(Metric),2003年2月1日)所測定之103ksi(710MPa)雙剪切強度(DSS)。
鐵及鎳基超合金(例如A286鐵基超合金(UNS S66286))為用於航天扣件應用中之代表性材料,其具有次級強度。經冷拉伸及老化之A286合金扣件的典型規定最小強度為180ksi(1,241MPa)UTS及108ksi(744MPa)DSS。
合金718鎳基超合金(N07718)為用於航天扣件中之材料,其表示最高級強度。經冷拉伸及老化之合金718超合金扣件的典型規格最小值為220ksi(1,517MPa)UTS及120ksi(827MPa)DSS。
另外,目前在使用中或考慮用作高強度扣件材料之兩種β鈦合金展現最小極限拉伸強度為180ksi(1,241.1MPa)及最小DSS為108ksi(744.6MPa)。SPS Technologies(Jenkintown,PA)提供一種由最佳化β-鈦合金製成之鈦合金扣件,其與Ti-3Al-8V-6Cr-4Zr-4Mo鈦合金(AMS 4958)之化學組成一致。可得到直徑至多1吋(2.54cm)之SPS螺釘。Alcoa Fastening Systems(AFS)已開發一種由鈦合金製成之高強度鈦扣件,該鈦合金與Ti-5Al-5Mo-5V-3Cr-0.5Fe鈦合金(亦稱為Ti-5553;UNS未指定)之標稱化學組成一致,為近似β鈦合金。AFS Ti-5553合金扣件據報導展現拉伸強度為190ksi(1,309MPa),伸長率大於10%,且最小DSS對於未塗佈零件為113ksi(779MPa)及對於經塗佈零件為108ksi(744MPa)。

在某些非限制性實施例中,本發明之扣件或扣件原料中包括之α/β鈦合金的元素組成由美國專利第5,980,655號(「'655專利」)中所揭示之合金組成涵蓋,該案以全文引用的方式併入本文中。該'655專利揭示一種具有下表1中所示之組成的合金。
'655專利之合金的商業形式為ATI 425®合金,其購自ATI Aerospace,其為Allegheny Technologies Incorporated(Pittsburgh,PA)之企業。具有'655專利中所揭示之元素組成的合金之極限拉伸強度在約130ksi至133ksi(896MPa至917MPa)之範圍內。然而,本發明者令人驚訝地發現,在本發明中顯著較窄範圍之化學組成產生可展現本文所揭示之顯著較高極限拉伸強度之α/β鈦扣件。在一非限制性實施例中,由本文所揭示之合金組成製成的本文所揭示之扣件的極限拉伸強度比'655專利中所揭示之UTS大至多22%。在不希望受任何操作理論束縛之情況下,咸信本文所揭示之扣件合金組成的驚人高強度可至少部分為顯著增加鋁及氧含量而超過'655專利中所揭示之最小含量(此可增加α/β鈦合金中主要α相之強度)的結果。
本發明者亦驚人地發現,相對於'655專利中所揭示之合金使本文所揭示之扣件合金中鋁、釩、鐵、氧、碳及氮之容許範圍變窄,可減少本文所揭示之扣件合金之機械性質及β轉變溫度的變化。此減少之變化對於達成本文所揭示之優良機械性質的製程及微結構優化很重要。
在另一非限制性實施例中,本文所揭示之鈦合金扣件及鈦合金扣件原料之直徑為至多0.75吋(1.91cm),且極限拉伸強度為至少180ksi(1,241MPa)及雙剪切強度為至少108ksi(744.6MPa)。在一非限制性實施例中,本發明之扣件或扣件原料的極限拉伸強度比'655專利中所揭示之極限拉伸強度大至多約26%。
再次參看圖1,根據本發明之另一非限制性態樣,選自鈦合金扣件10及鈦合金扣件原料(未圖示)之製品包括基本上由以下組成之α/β鈦
合金:3.9至4.5重量%鋁;2.2至3.0重量%釩;1.2至1.8重量%鐵;0.24至0.3重量%氧;至多0.08重量%碳;至多0.05重量%氮;不超過總共0.3重量%其他元素;其餘部分為鈦;及附帶雜質。在本發明之非限制性實施例中,合金組成中所提及之其他元素包含或基本上由以下一或多者組成:錫、鋯、鉬、鉻、鎳、矽、銅、鈮、鉭、錳及鈷,其中每一該種元素之重量%為0.1或小於0.1;及硼及釔,其中每一該種元素之重量%為小於0.005,所有其他元素之總和不超過0.3重量%。在一非限制性實施例中,製品之極限拉伸強度為至少170ksi(1,172MPa)及雙剪切強度為至少103ksi(710.2MPa)。
在一非限制性實施例中,本發明之鈦扣件及鈦合金扣件原料的直徑為至多0.75吋(1.91cm),極限拉伸強度為至少180ksi(1,241MPa)及雙剪切強度為至少108ksi(744.6MPa)。

度至少50℉(27.8℃),但低於α/β鈦合金之β轉變溫度不超過600℉(333.3℃)。
熱輥軋22後,視情況冷拉伸α/β鈦合金並退火以減小尺寸而不實質上改變α/β鈦合金之機械性質。在一非限制性實施例中,冷拉伸可使鈦合金工件之橫截面積減小小於10%。在冷拉伸之前,可用諸如(但不限於)二硫化鉬(MoS2)之固體潤滑劑塗佈α/β鈦合金。
在一非限制性實施例中,在熱輥軋22後,使α/β鈦合金退火23並冷卻24,得到α/β鈦合金扣件原料。在一非限制性實施例中,退火23包括在退火溫度範圍為1,200℉至1,400℉(649℃至760℃)之退火溫度下使經熱輥軋之α/β鈦合金退火。在另一非限制性實施例中,退火時間在約1小時至約2小時之範圍內。在又一非限制性實施例中,退火23包含在約1,275℉(690.6℃)下使經熱輥軋之α/β鈦合金退火約1小時。在一非限制性實施例中,在退火23後,使經退火之α/β鈦合金冷卻24至室溫或周圍溫度。在某些非限制性實施例中,在退火23後,使經退火之α/β鈦合金經空氣冷卻或水冷卻至室溫或周圍溫度。
在退火23及冷卻24後,在一非限制性實施例中,將α/β鈦合金扣件原料機械加工25成適用於由該原料形成扣件之尺寸。視情況可在機械加工之前將塗層塗覆於α/β鈦合金扣件原料上。習知之機械加工塗層已為熟習此項技術者所知且不必在此詳細說明。
在一非限制性實施例中,在固溶處理溫度範圍為1,500℉(815.6℃)至1,700℉(926.7℃)之固溶處理溫度下,對機械加工之鈦合金扣件原料進行固溶處理26,固溶處理時間為0.5小時至2小時。在一特定非限制性實施例中,在約1610℉(876.7℃)之固溶處理溫度下,對機械加工之鈦合金扣件原料進行固溶處理26。
固溶處理26後,將機械加工之鈦合金扣件原料冷卻27。在非限制性實施例中,可使用空氣冷卻、水冷卻及/或水淬火來進行冷卻
27,且其可稱為「快速冷卻」。較佳地,在冷卻27期間所達成之冷卻速率與空氣冷卻同樣快。在一非限制性實施例中,冷卻27之冷卻速率為每分鐘至少1,000℉(555.6℃)。在一非限制性實施例中,冷卻27包含熟習此項技術者已知可達成指定冷卻速率之任何冷卻方法。使用快速冷卻27保護由固溶處理26所獲得之微結構。
在一非限制性實施例中,在老化處理溫度範圍為約800℉(426.7℃)至約1,000℉(537.8℃)之老化處理溫度下,使經固溶處理26及快速冷卻27之鈦合金扣件原料老化28,老化時間在約4小時至約16小時之老化處理時間範圍內。在一特定非限制性實施例中,在850℉(454.4℃)下使經固溶處理26及快速冷卻27之鈦合金扣件原料老化28持續10小時。在某些非限制性實施例中,在老化28後,空氣冷卻29或快速冷卻α/β鈦合金扣件原料以產生如本文所揭示之α/β鈦合金扣件。
已確定根據本發明製成之扣件原料具有高於由Ti-6-4鈦合金製成之扣件原料的機械性質。因此,有可能在相同應用中使用根據本發明製造之尺寸較小的扣件來替代Ti-6-4扣件。由此減輕重量,其在航天應用中具有價值。亦已確定在某些應用中,根據本發明製成之扣件可替代具有相同尺寸之鋼合金扣件且由此減輕重量,此對於航天應用具有價值。
以下實例意欲進一步描述某些非限制性實施例,而不限制本發明之範疇。一般技術者應瞭解,在僅由申請專利範圍限定之本發明範疇內可能存在以下實例之變化形式。
使用雙真空電弧再熔(VAR)技術,用由原料製成之坯塊製造鑄錠。自該鑄錠取得樣品進行化學分析,且表2中提供鑄錠之所測平均化學組成。合金之β轉變溫度經測定為1,785℉(973.9℃)。

在約1,600℉(871.1℃)之熱輥軋溫度下熱輥軋經若干次加熱且具有根據本發明之化學組成的鈦合金鑄錠。在1,275℉(690.6℃)下使熱輥軋之材料退火1小時並空氣冷卻。將退火之材料機械加工成具有約0.25吋(6.35mm)至約3.5吋(88.9mm)之各種直徑的扣件原料桿及線。在約1,610℉(876.7℃)下對扣件原料桿及線進行固溶處理持續約1小時並水淬火。固溶處理及水淬火後,在約850℉(454.4℃)下使扣件原料桿及線老化約10小時並空氣冷卻。
在室溫下對來自實例2之扣件原料桿及線進行拉伸測試。扣件原料桿及線之極限拉伸強度以圖表形式呈現於圖3中。扣件原料桿及線之屈服強度以圖表形式呈現於圖4中,且扣件原料桿及線之伸長率%以圖表形式呈現於圖5中。經固溶處理及老化之Ti-6Al-4V合金滿足航天扣件應用(AMS 4965)所需的最小極限拉伸強度、屈服強度及伸長率%亦分別在圖3-5中說明。由圖3可見,在所測的全部直徑尺寸中,對於根據本發明製成之扣件原料桿及線所量測的極限拉伸強度均超過所說明之Ti-6Al-4V合金規格約20ksi(138MPa)之顯著量。此外,由圖5可見,具有根據本發明之化學組成的扣件原料展現伸長率%在至少10%至約19%之範圍內。
對直徑為約0.25吋(6.35mm)、具有實例1之化學組成且如實例2中經固溶處理及老化的扣件原料進行拉伸測試。拉伸測試之結果列於表3中。

極限拉伸強度在約196ksi至約200ksi(1351MPa至1379MPa)之範圍內,其高於對Ti-6Al-4V扣件原料170ksi(1,172MPa)UTS及103ksi(710MPa)DSS之最小要求。亦觀察到該等性質與公認經驗關係DSS=0.6×UTS一致。
對直徑為約0.75吋(1.91cm)、具有來自實例1之化學組成且根據實例2經熱處理的扣件原料進行拉伸測試。拉伸測試之結果列於表4中。
0.75吋(1.91cm)扣件原料桿之平均極限拉伸強度為186ksi(1,282MPa),其滿足由A286鐵基超合金製成的扣件之最小規格。基於上文
所呈現之DSS與UTS之間的公認經驗關係,預期0.75吋(1.91cm)桿亦滿足對由A286鐵基超合金製成的扣件之108ksi(744MPa)DSS要求。
熱輥軋具有如實例1中之化學組成的鑄錠,退火,且如實例2進行機械加工,形成直徑為約0.75吋(1.91cm)之扣件原料。對扣件原料進行電腦數控機械加工,形成具有螺栓形狀之扣件。如實例2中對螺栓進行固溶處理且使其老化以形成本發明之扣件的非限制性實施例。
熱輥軋具有如實例1中之化學組成的鑄錠,退火,且如實例2進行機械加工,形成直徑為約1吋(2.54cm)之扣件原料。用輥使扣件原料形成螺紋且切成長度為約2吋(5.08cm)之工件。冷鍛造該等工件以形成六角螺釘。如實例2對六角螺釘進行固溶處理且使其老化以形成本發明之扣件的非限制性實施例。
熱輥軋具有如實例1中之化學組成的鑄錠,退火,且如實例2進行機械加工,形成直徑為約1吋(2.54cm)之扣件原料。機械加工扣件原料之中心以得到0.5吋(1.27cm)直徑的孔。接著將扣件原料切成厚度為0.125吋(0.318cm)之工件。如實例2對扣件原料進行固溶處理且使其老化以形成本發明之呈墊圈形式之扣件的非限制性實施例。

Claims (18)
