Abstract

技术领域
本发明一般涉及OLED显示器,并且更具体地,涉及用于改善具有三个以上不同颜色的子像素和至少一个白色子像素的OLED显示器的颜色准确度、功耗或寿命、以及伽马和黑电平校正的OLED显示系统和方法。
发明内容
根据一个实施例,提供了一种用于控制OLED显示器以实现其中各个像素包括至少三个具有不同颜色的子像素和至少一个白色子像素的像素阵列中的所期望的颜色点和亮度等级的方法和系统。所述方法和所述系统选择像素内容域中的具有已知颜色点和已知亮度等级的多个参考点。针对各个由不同颜色的三个子像素组成的集合,所述方法和所述系统确定各个子像素的份额以产生各个所选参考点的所述颜色点和所述亮度等级,并且选出为各个子像素而确定的最大份额作为需要从该子像素提供的峰值亮度。

具体实施方式
子像素映射
为了改善颜色准确度、功耗或寿命,OLED显示器可以具有不止三种的基本子像素颜色。因此,需要执行适当的颜色映射,以便纵使不同的颜色要素之间存在着过渡,也能够提供连续的颜色空间。这样的OLED显示器中的各个像素由n个子像素{SP1、SP2、SP3、…、SPn}组成。能够计算出各个子像素应当能够创建的峰值亮度,并且该峰值亮度能够被用来设计显示器或被用来将伽马电平调节到所需电平。

在表征颜色时存在着不同标准。一个示例是1931CIE标准,它利用照度(亮度)参数以及两个颜色坐标x和y来表征颜色。坐标x和y规定了CIE色度图上的点,其表示人类的颜色感知在两个CIE参数x和y方面的映射。能够通过把既定的一组三原色(例如,红色、绿色和蓝色)组合起来而被相配的颜色是由CIE色度图内的将这三个颜色的坐标连接起来的三角形表示的。

动态份额因子调节
各个三色集合的份额可以基于像素内容而被改变。例如,某些集合能够在某些灰阶(grayscale)下提供更好的特性(例如,均匀性),而其它某些集合能够在不同的灰阶下更利于其它特性(例如,功耗)。
在一个示例中,显示器包括红色子像素、绿色子像素、蓝色子像素和白色子像素。白色子像素是非常高效的,且因此它能够在高的亮度下提供较低的功耗。然而,由于较高的效率,所以不均匀性补偿在较低的灰阶下无法很好地起作用。在这种情况下,能够用效率较低的子像素(例如,红色、绿色和蓝色)来创建低灰阶。因此,份额因子可以是灰阶的函数,从而就能利用各个灰度级下的不同集合强度。例如,在较高的灰度级下能够使具有最低效率(K1)的三色集合的份额因子减小,并且在较低的灰阶下能够使具有最低效率(K1)的三色集合的份额因子增大。而且,能够随着灰阶的增大而使具有最高效率(K2=1-K1)的三色集合的份额因子增大。因此,该显示器能够既具有在较高亮度等级下的较低功耗又具有在较低灰阶下的较高均匀性。这个函数可以是阶梯状函数、线性函数或任何其它的复杂函数。然而,在大的过渡处可以使用平滑函数以避免轮廓线。图5示出了两个三色集合系统的份额因子的示例。
局部优化的子像素
由于显示性能的规格具有一个宽的范围,所以子像素将会具有最佳操作点,并且从这个点发生的偏离就会影响一个或两个规格。例如,为了实现低的功耗,我们可以使用尽可能大的驱动薄膜晶体管(驱动TFT)以便减小操作电压。另一方面,在低的电流电平下,所述TFT将会在非优化的操作状况(例如,亚阈值)下操作。另一方面,如果为了改善低灰阶性能而使用小的TFT,那么将会由于使用了大的操作电流而影响功耗和寿命。
为了解决当使单个子像素在所有灰度级和操作范围(例如,不同的环境条件、亮度等级等等)下都被优化时的困难,我们可以添加在不同的操作范围下被优化的子像素。为了使特定灰度级集合的各个子像素的操作优化,我们可以改变部件尺寸或可以使用针对各个局部优化后的子像素而不同的像素电路。这里,我们可以共用子像素的所有部件或一些部件(例如,OLED、偏置晶体管(bias transistor)、偏置线等等)。图6图示了使用两个局部优化后的子像素的示例,其中各个子像素具有一些共用部件和一些专用部件。而且,我们可以采用两个不同的负载元件(例如,OLED)。在这个示例中,共用的负载或被结合起来的分离负载元件所需的电流是由子像素1和子像素2这两者生成的,其中I1=A1*I并且I2=A2*I(I是该负载所需的总电流,I1是由子像素#1生成的电流,I2是由子像素#2生成的电流,并且A2=1-A1)。在这里,A1和A2是针对不同的灰阶(或操作条件)而被调节的,以便调节各个子像素在生成电流的过程中的比例。

图7是为各个子像素优化驱动TFT(T1)、编程开关TFT(T2)和存储元件(CS)的示例性实施例的电路图。而且,TFT T3、偏置线、选择线(SEL)和电源线(VDD)是共用的。在一种情况下,可以使用不同大小的驱动TFT以便针对不同的操作范围来优化子像素。例如,我们可以针对被用于较低灰阶的一个子像素而使用较小的驱动TFT,并且可以针对被用于较高灰阶的另一个子像素而使用较大的驱动TFT。
通过使子像素激活或停用的开关,或通过用使子像素停用的关断电压对该子像素进行编程,能够执行对于各个子像素的选择。
局部优化的子像素的方法可以被用于所有的子像素或可以只被用于所选的子像素。例如,在RGBW子像素结构的情况下,由于高的OLED效率,所以使白色子像素在所有灰度级内都被优化是非常困难的,然而其它的子像素能够更容易地被优化。因此,我们可以只对白色子像素使用局部优化的子像素的方法。
伽马和黑电平校正
伽马校准过程确保由面板显示的颜色能够准确到通常为2.2的所期望的伽马曲线。该过程现在已经是高度自动化的。目标白点和曲线是参数化的。图8A和图8B中示出了高电平过程。这个过程假定:已经施加了对于面板的初始均匀性补偿。
在图8A的过程中,步骤801为了均匀性补偿而测量显示面板,然后对测量数据进行曲线拟合。对该面板施加黑电平,并且调节各个子像素的阈值参数直到该面板变黑。在图8B的过程中,在步骤804中测量电流响应,然后在步骤805中将该电流响应映射至目标曲线。步骤806将所得的查找表(LUT;lookup table)应用于初始补偿。
发射型显示器的一个优势是深的黑电平。然而,由于像素的非线性行为和像素中的不均匀性,难以实现基于连续的伽马曲线的黑电平。在一个方法中,选择最坏的情况,并且基于此来计算关断电压。然后,具有某一裕量(margin)的该电压被指定给一般会使面板处于深负偏压(deep negative biasing)状况下的黑色灰度级。因为一些背板对负偏置状况敏感,所以该面板将会随着时间而变得图像老化(image burn-in)和不均匀。
为了避免上述这些,可以基于面板均匀性信息来调节黑电平。在这种情况下,在图8A的步骤801中测量像素的均匀性,并且在步骤802中计算阈值电压(在该阈值电压下,像素电流被假定为是关断的)。然而,因为使用了简化模型以便降低计算和补偿的复杂性,所以所计算出的阈值电压将会具有一些误差。为了指定黑电压,在步骤803中使像素的阈值电压减小直到面板变黑。这个过程可以针对各个颜色而被单独地执行,并且修改后的新阈值电压被用于黑电压电平。
在本发明的另一个方面中,给面板添加了多个传感器,并且调节黑电平的电压直到所有的传感器都提供零读数。在这种情况下,黑电平的初始起点可以是所计算出的阈值电压。
在本发明的另一个方面中,单独地调节各个传感器的黑电平,并且基于各个传感器数据来创建黑电平电压的映射。该映射能够基于不同的插值(interpolation)方法而被创建。
在本发明的另一个方面中,黑电平具有至少两个值。一个值被用于黑暗环境并且另一个值被用于明亮环境。因为较低的黑电平在明亮环境中是没有用的,所以像素能够处于轻微接通状态(处在比面板的反射小的电平或与面板的反射相似的电平下)。因此,像素能够避免在较高亮度等级下而被积累的负应力(negative stress)。
在本发明的另一个方面中,黑电平具有至少两个值。一个值是当所有的子像素处于关断状态时而被使用的,并且另一个值是在至少一个子像素处于接通状态时而被使用的。在这种情况下,可以存在着在切换至关断子像素(OFF sub-pixel)的第二黑电平值时所要求的接通子像素(ON sub-pixel)的亮度等级的阈值。例如,如果蓝色子像素处于接通状态并且其亮度高于1nit(尼特),那么其它子像素能够是轻微接通的(例如,小于0.01nit)。在这种情况下,关断子像素能够消除在照明下的负偏置应力。
在本发明的另一个方面中,邻近子像素的亮度能够被用来在不同的黑电平值之间切换。在这种情况下,基于各子像素的与关断子像素相隔的距离来将权重分配给这些子像素。在一个示例中,该权重可以是一个固定值,其在选定数量的像素的距离之后下降到0。在另一个示例中,该权重可以是从1到0的线性下降。而且,其他不同的复杂函数可以被用作权重函数。
测量电流响应
图9中总结了电流响应测量过程的步骤。初始的步骤901设置时序控制器,该时序控制器确保是在显示器处于正确模式下执行的测量。具体地,该时序控制器确保了正被显示于面板上的是最新补偿。该时序控制器还确保了:在伽马校正和照度校正被禁用的情况下能够启用在伽马函数被运用之前所需要的TFT和OLED校正。为了避免必须将整个帧缓冲器写成单个值,特定的平场寄存器(flat-field register)能够被施用于该时序控制器中。当时序控制器被置于这个模式下时,步骤902将所期望的灰阶写入相应的颜色寄存器,这足以显示出所期望的颜色。因为特别是在较高电平下当整个面板处于接通状态对该面板进行表征会导致较低的亮度和/或限流(current limiting),所以步骤903仅设置该面板的一部分以显示所期望的颜色电平。
预设的灰阶列表被用来确定将要被使用的测量点。在一个实施方案中,61级的列表被用于表征。这些点不是线性地分隔开的,它们被布置成朝着曲线的下端变得更加密集,随着灰度级的增大而变得更稀疏。这样做通常是为了拟合一条2.2曲线而不是线性曲线,并且能够针对其它伽马曲线而被调节。该列表从最低目标等级(例如,0)到最高目标(例如,1023)而被排列着。此外,该列表可以是任何其它的顺序。在运用了各个颜色等级之后,然后在步骤904中记录所得到的照度和/或颜色点(CIE-XY)。进行多次测量,并且采用误差检查以确保读数的有效性。例如,如果读数的变化太大,那么该装备没有正常工作。或者,如果读数表现出增大或减小的趋势,那么这意味着这些值还没有稳定。如果利用校准传感器仅测量了照度,那么这些读数在基于该传感器的校准曲线的处理中被转换成照度和颜色点数据。上述各步骤的顺序能够被改变并且仍然能够获得有效结果。重复步骤903和步骤904直到在步骤905中检测到最后一个颜色,此后,重复步骤902至步骤905直到在步骤906中检测到最后一个灰度色。
将响应映射成目标曲线
目标曲线(例如,所需要的伽马响应)和白点被规定为该映射函数的输入参数。图10中总结了该过程的步骤。
第一个步骤是加载通过表征过程(characterization procedure)生成的测量数据。如果所要处理的数据来自校准传感器,那么就需要一个额外的步骤。该传感器的校准文件被用来将原始传感器读数转换成照度和颜色点值。
一旦加载了数据,就使用目标颜色点和峰值照度来计算各个颜色的峰值目标照度。步骤1001找出导致了这个照度的灰阶,这使得能够确定各个颜色的新的最大灰阶。如果任何颜色都不能实现该目标,那么就调节该目标以使得最高的可实现的亮度代替上述目标而变为目标。然后,在步骤1002中使照度读数相对于这个新的最大灰阶归一化(normalized)。
这个归一化的数据现在能够被用来将上述测量映射成目标曲线,在步骤1003中生成查找表。线性插值被用来估计测量点之间的照度。然而,也能够使用其他不同的已知的曲线拟合过程。通过使目标曲线归一化并且找出从最低灰度级(例如,0)到最高灰度级(例如,1023)的各个点的值,来创建目标曲线。
像标准RGB(sRGB)曲线这样的一些情况实际上是分段的。在这些情况下,不同的分量被用于曲线的各个部分。例如,对于标准RGB(sRGB),在曲线的下端处存在着线性分量,而曲线的剩余部分是呈指数的。结果,在步骤1004中对查找表的下端施加线性化。需要被施加线性化的点能够从将测量数据映射至标准时被提取。例如,线性化能够被施加至开头的100个灰阶和曲线中的变化,这里灰度100表示该标准所识别的亮度点。
在施加了线性化之后,剩下的就仅仅是在步骤1005中将所得到的查找表(LUT)写成适当的输出格式。
虽然已经图示和说明了本发明的特定实施例和应用,但是应当理解的是,本发明不限于在这里所公开的具体结构和组成,并且在不脱离如随附权利要求所限定的本发明的主旨和范围的情况下,从前述说明中显然可以做出各种各样的修改、替换和变更。
Claims (14)
1.一种用于控制OLED显示器以实现像素阵列中的所期望的颜色点和亮度等级的方法,所述像素阵列中的各个像素包括至少三个具有不同颜色的子像素和至少一个白色子像素,所述方法包括:
选择像素内容域中的具有已知颜色点和已知亮度等级的多个参考点;
识别所有可能的由三个子像素组成的三色集合,所述三个子像素来自于所述至少三个具有不同颜色的子像素和所述至少一个白色子像素,针对各个由三个子像素组成的三色集合,确定各个子像素的份额以产生各个所选参考点的所述颜色点和所述亮度等级;以及
选出为各个子像素而确定的最大份额以作为需要从该子像素提供的峰值亮度。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中各个由不同颜色的三个子像素组成的三色集合是红色子像素、绿色子像素和蓝色子像素的集合。
3.一种用于控制OLED显示器以实现像素阵列中的所期望的颜色点和亮度等级的系统,所述像素阵列中的各个像素包括至少三个具有不同颜色的子像素和至少一个白色子像素,所述系统包括:
处理器,所述处理器被配置成:
选择像素内容域中的具有已知颜色点和已知亮度等级的多个参考点;
识别所有可能的由三个子像素组成的三色集合,所述三个子像素来自于所述至少三个具有不同颜色的子像素和所述至少一个白色子像素,
针对各个由三个子像素组成的三色集合,确定各个子像素的份额以产生各个所选参考点的所述颜色点和所述亮度等级;以及
选出为各个子像素而确定的最大份额以作为需要从该子像素提供的峰值亮度。
4.根据权利要求3所述的系统,其中各个由不同颜色的三个子像素组成的三色集合是红色子像素、绿色子像素和蓝色子像素的集合。
5.一种用于控制OLED显示器以实现像素阵列中的所期望的颜色点和亮度等级的方法,所述像素阵列中的各个像素包括至少三个具有不同颜色的子像素和至少一个白色子像素,所述方法包括:
识别两个以上的把所期望的颜色点围起来的不同颜色的三个子像素的三色集合;
针对各个所识别的子像素三色集合,确定该三色集合中的各所述子像素的亮度份额以产生所期望的颜色点;
针对各个所识别的子像素三色集合,至少基于像素操作点和显示性能来选择份额因子;
基于所述份额因子来修改所述亮度份额;以及
将修改后的所述亮度份额映射至像素输入数据。
6.根据权利要求5所述的方法,其包括:
确定所识别的三色集合的效率;
随着所期望的颜色点的灰阶的增大,使具有最高效率的三色集合的份额因子增大,且使具有最低效率的三色集合的份额因子减小;以及
随着所期望的所述颜色点的灰阶的减小,使具有最高效率的三色集合的份额因子减小,且使具有最低效率的三色集合的份额因子增大。
7.根据权利要求5所述的方法,其中各个由不同颜色的子像素组成的三色集合是红色子像素、绿色子像素和蓝色子像素的集合。
8.一种用于控制OLED显示器以实现像素阵列中的所期望的颜色点和亮度等级的系统,所述像素阵列中的各个像素包括至少三个具有不同颜色的子像素和至少一个白色子像素,所述系统包括:
处理器,所述处理器被配置成:
识别两个以上的把所期望的颜色点围起来的不同颜色的三个子像素的三色集合;
针对各个所识别的子像素三色集合,确定该三色集合中的各所述子像素的亮度份额以产生所期望的颜色点;
针对各个所识别的子像素三色集合,至少基于像素操作点和显示性能来选择份额因子;
基于所述份额因子来修改所述亮度份额;以及
将修改后的所述亮度份额映射至像素输入数据。
9.根据权利要求8所述的系统,所述处理器被配置成:
确定所识别的三色集合的效率;
随着所期望的颜色点的灰阶的增大,使具有最高效率的三色集合的份额因子增大,且使具有最低效率的三色集合的份额因子减小;以及
随着所期望的颜色点的灰阶的减小,使具有最高效率的三色集合的份额因子减小,且使具有最低效率的三色集合的份额因子增大。
10.根据权利要求8所述的系统,其中各个由不同颜色的子像素组成的三色集合是红色子像素、绿色子像素和蓝色子像素的集合。
11.一种用于控制OLED显示器以实现像素阵列中的所期望的颜色点和亮度等级的方法,所述像素阵列中的各个像素包括至少三个具有不同颜色的子像素和至少一个白色子像素,所述方法包括:
确定所选像素的输入信号的颜色点;
识别所有的由不同颜色的三个子像素组成的三色集合;
选择把所述输入信号的所述颜色点围起来的三色集合;
针对各个所选择的子像素三色集合,确定该三色集合中的三个子像素的亮度份额以产生所述输入信号的所述颜色点;以及
针对各个所选择的子像素三色集合,至少基于像素操作点和显示性能来选择份额因子;
基于所述份额因子来修改所述亮度份额;以及
将修改后的所述亮度份额映射至像素输入数据。
12.根据权利要求11所述的方法,其中各个由不同颜色的子像素组成的三色集合是红色子像素、绿色子像素和蓝色子像素的集合。
13.一种OLED显示器,其包括:
用于显示所期望的颜色点和亮度等级的像素阵列,所述像素阵列中的各个像素包括至少三个具有不同颜色的子像素和至少一个白色子像素,
各个所述像素包括如下的至少三个具有不同颜色的子像素和至少一个白色子像素:各所述子像素具有随着由该子像素显示的灰度级而发生变化的操作条件,
所述像素具有如下的至少两个子像素:它们显示相同颜色但是具有随着正被显示的灰度级而发生不同的变化的操作条件;以及
控制器,所述控制器响应于输入到该像素的灰度级来选择显示相同颜色的所述两个子像素中的一个子像素。
14.根据权利要求13所述的OLED显示器,其中各个由不同颜色的子像素组成的三色集合是红色子像素、绿色子像素和蓝色子像素的集合。
