Description
技术领域
本发明涉及一种改进显示器件、优选是自发光显示器件、并且最优选是基于有机发光二极管的显示器件的输出均匀性的方法.本发明还涉及实施该方法的系统和用于所述系统的显示器。
背景技术
近年来,人们对自发光显示器件的兴趣日益增加.例如,已经发现利用自发光材料如聚合物或有机发光材料的自发光显示器件有替代其它显示器类型如液晶显示器或阴极射线管的潜能。
实质上,自发光显示器件如聚合物发光二极管显示器或有机发光二极管显示器包括多个像素和用于给发光材料施加驱动电流的驱动结构,每个像素含有自发光材料。通常情况下,该器件包括在基板上排列的像素矩阵,所述基板例如是玻璃或聚合物基板。该矩阵结构主要细分为两个主组,即被动和主动矩阵结构。在被动矩阵聚合物或有机发光显示器中,发光材料层设置在相交的并由此形成像素的行电极层和列电极层之间(见图1)。通常,显示器发射由数据驱动器控制,每个数据驱动器控制流过一列的电流.在主动矩阵聚合物或有机发光显示器中(见图2),像素矩阵的每个像素由像素驱动电路来控制。而且,每列由数据驱动电路控制。
但是,使用p-Si薄膜晶体管的主动矩阵聚合物发光二极管显示器存在的问题是:这种晶体管的特性的变化导致显示器的亮度的随机像素与像素变化,从而导致显示输出的非均匀性。这种变化对于最简单的跨导电路特别强,所述跨导电路中每个像素具有两个薄膜晶体管,其中驱动薄膜晶体管用于将寻址电压转换成驱动电流。图3和4中示出了这种电路的例子。因此,这种类型的电路不适用于高性能显示器。然而,由于其它原因,最简单的跨导电路是优选的,因为它们提供高像素孔径、即使在低亮度水平下也能很快地被寻址,并且寻址操作是最简单的,因为它们主要可以使用已建立的驱动器,与液晶显示器中使用的相同。因此,为克服上述问题是有利的。

发明内容
因此,在一般的显示器件中提出了用于改进或克服非均匀性的一般方法,并且这种方法在显示器件中是特别希望的,因此本发明的目的是实现了这种方法,克服了如上所述的现有技术的缺陷.
这个和其它目的至少部分地由根据权利要求1的方法来实现。根据这种方法,通过以下步骤改进了显示器件的输出均匀性;检测显示器件的至少一个像素的第一发射亮度;借助检测到的第一亮度,确定与所述像素连接的驱动电路的输出的非均匀性;和基于所述第一检测亮度,对于至少一个像素产生校准因子,用于修正驱动电路的输出,以便改进均匀性。通过这种方式,可以补偿由单个器件特性中的变化产生的显示发射的非均匀性,其中所述器件特性变化的尺度随着光输出线性地变化。通过在不同亮度下测量像素输出,可以从不同源中区别均匀性变化。优选地,该方法可以用于自发光显示器件,更优选用于基于有机发光二极管的显示器件。
一般情况下,几个因素造成显示器光输出的变化,包括晶体管和驱动电路中的其它部件的性能变化,以及发光器件本身的效率变化。因此,根据本发明优选实施例,该方法还包括以下步骤:检测所述第一发射亮度之后,调整平均显示亮度,之后检测所述至少一个像素的第二发射亮度,并基于检测到的所述第一和第二发射亮度,产生用于至少一个像素的校准因子,用于修正驱动电路的输出,以便改进均匀性。通过这种方式,可以补偿由来源于一个器件特性以上的变化产生的显示器发射的非均匀性.通过在不同亮度下测量像素输出,可以从甚至更多的不同源中区别均匀性变化.

本发明的上述和其它目的还至少部分地通过用于校准显示器件的系统来实现,用于改进显示器件的输出均匀性,该系统包括用于保持被校准显示器件的单元、成像系统以及反馈系统,其中成像系统设置成当使用时可从显示器件的整个显示器件表面检测发射亮度,反馈系统用于向显示器件传输回表示发射亮度的信息,该系统设置成可以执行上述本发明的方法。优选地,与该系统结合使用的显示器件是自发光显示器件,优选是基于有机发光二极管的显示器件。
而且,本发明的上述和其它目的还至少部分地通过与上述系统结合使用来实现.根据优选实施例,该显示器件还包括设置成行和列结构的多个发光像素,其中每列或每行像素与数据驱动电路连接,其中每列或每行包括结合电流测量装置的附加非发光像素,用于监视从所述数据驱动器输出的输出信号相对于时间的变化。

具体实施方式
图1示意性地公开了可用于本发明的被动矩阵聚合物或有机发光显示器件。在所公开的被动矩阵聚合物或有机发光显示器中,发光材料层置于相交的(见图1)并由此形成像素5的行电极层8和列电极层7之间。
图2示意性地公开了可用于本发明的主动矩阵聚合物或有机发光显示器件1的一部分的等效电路图.这个显示器件包括具有m行(1,2,...,m)和n列(1,2,...,n)的(P)LED或(O)LED的矩阵。其中提到了行和列,应该注意的是,如果希望的话它们可以互换。该器件还包括与所述行连接的行选择电路16和与所述列连接的数据寄存器15。在处理单元18中处理外部呈现的信息,例如视频信号,根据要显示的信息,所述处理单元18经电源线19给数据寄存器15的分离部件15-1,...15-n充电.行的选择由行选择电路16经行线8通过给它们提供所需选择电压来执行,在这种情况下,行线8是如TFT晶体管的晶体管22的栅极。进行写数据,其中在选择期间,从数据寄存器15提供数据信号,在这种情况下是以电压信号形式的。在寻址期间,电容器24经晶体管被充电到数据电压的电平。这个电容器确定晶体管21的调整,并因此确定在驱动期间流过LED20的实际电流和像素的亮度。行8的选择和列7上存在电压之间的同步化是通过处理单元18经驱动线14来执行的。
本发明背后的基本想法将在下面借助其大量优选实施例进一步说明。体现本发明的基本示意系统在图5中公开了,只是用于说明性目的.这里,制造的自发光显示器1设置成被调节以便改进显示器的发光元件的输出均匀性。该显示器件例如可以是如上所述的和图1示意性地示出的被动矩阵聚合物或有机发光显示器,或如上所述的和图2示意性地示出的主动矩阵聚合物或有机发光显示器(AMP(O)LED)。
所制造的显示器件1置于外部成像系统2的下面.这个系统例如可以是基于CCD照相机的系统,它能检测从显示器件1发射的光。然后,为了发光而对显示器件1进行寻址。寻址可以一次一个像素地进行、一次一列或一次一行地进行,如下面进一步详细说明的.寻址可以借助驱动电路3来进行.该驱动电路可以是像素驱动电路,如图5所示,(只是主动矩阵结构),其中为显示器件3的每个像素设置一个驱动电路。这种电路的例子在图3和4中公开了。或者,驱动电路是数据驱动电路,(适用于被动和主动矩阵结构),其中为显示器的每个像素列设置一个驱动电路3,以便控制该列像素。在任何情况下,显示器的所有驱动电路与显示器的中央处理单元/控制器单元(未示出)连接,所述中央处理单元/控制器单元用于给每个驱动电路提供关于在某一次将要寻址的驱动电路的信息。
然而,在图5所公开的例子中,一次寻址显示器1的一个像素,由此该像素发光,并且其亮度取决于向驱动电路3输出的输出信号4。然后用外部成像系统2检测像素的发射亮度,之后将检测的亮度经反馈单元6反馈给驱动电路3(或者,反馈给与驱动电路连接的单独的处理单元).在驱动电路3(或单独的处理单元)中,将检测到的亮度与当前输出信号4的所希望的亮度相比较,并且该特定输出信号4的显示非均匀性可以通过信号处理来建立。之后,如果需要的话,调整输出信号4,并因此调整发射亮度,并重复一次或多次进行上述检测。从通过这些测量获得的值看出,基本上输出信号的每个可能值的非均匀性可以通过插值法来建立,并且从这些值计算出校准因子,调整每个输出信号用于实现所希望的像素输出.然后将这个校准因子储存在驱动电路或相关电路中。这可以通过在存储器中存储校准因子或通过调整硬件来实施,例如通过熔断熔丝或使用驱动电路或相关电路的激光修整(laser trimming)。
为了实现显示器的所有像素的校准因子,对显示器的所有像素重复进行上述过程,并在全色显示的情况下,对显示器的每种颜色重复进行上述过程。或者,可以利用校准图像同时寻址整个显示器,即显示器的所有像素,在这种情况下,利用成像系统2同时测量所有像素的输出。
上述方法可以等效地用在列/行级上。但是,在这种情况下,一次寻址整个列或行,并且检测沿着列/行的所有像素的整体亮度.在这种情况下在数据驱动电路中实施校准因子,而不是在像素驱动电路中。而且,在这种情况下,可以利用校准图像同时寻址整个显示器,即显示器的所有像素,并且在这种情况下,利用成像系统2同时测量所有列/行的输出。
实施例1
根据本发明第一实施例,本发明的方法在AMP(O)LED显示器中的像素级上实现.将所制造的AMP(O)LED显示器置于成像系统如基于CCD照相机的系统下面.该显示器导通,使将要研究的像素发光(对将要被研究的显示器的所有像素重复这个过程.或者,可以一次寻址所有像素,如上所述).确定像素的亮度,然后将确定的亮度与对于该像素的给定驱动输入的所希望亮度相比较。通过这一比较,确定像素电路输出的非均匀性的测量.其中基于这个非均匀性测量的校正是足够的情况的例子是用于像素驱动电路,其中只有单独的晶体管的迁移率变化确定了非均匀性,或者其中发光器件本身的效率变化是造成显示亮度非均匀性的原因。对所有像素重复进行上述过程,并且在全色显示器中对所有颜色重复进行上述过程.

实施例2

实施例3
本实施例与上述实施例1和2相同,但是在实施例3中,校准因子没有储存在附加存储器中。而是借助熔断熔丝或部件的激光修整将校准因子引入到像素驱动器中。这可以在p-Si衬底上实施,但是也可以在附加驱动电路或与像素驱动器连接的电路上实施.本实施例的优点是它可以利用相对较低的成本来实现。
实施例4
根据本发明的第四实施例,本发明的方法在AMP(O)LED显示器中在数据驱动器级实现。

与像素级补偿相比,如实施例1所述,实施例4所述的列级补偿具有多个优点。首先,列级补偿消除了更多的可见假象,如上所述。而且,如上所述,需要更少的存储器(大约100-1000倍以下),并且在使用查询表的实施例中还需要更小的查询表。此外,本实施例能使用更简单的电流驱动电路,因为可以降低对这种电路的均匀性需求。由此,可以使用具有较低功耗的和/或更小尺寸的更快速部件。此外,如上所述,本实施例可用于所有亮度级,并且执行起来更快速,因为较少的数据被装载到查询表上等.

实施例6

上述实施例4和5提供了较低成本的实施,它没有消除由TFT性能变化引起的像素到像素的变化。包括TFT的驱动电路的例子在图3和4中公开了。当制造TFT时,在p-Si制造工艺期间的激光结晶步骤的细节导致了沿着激光扫描方向或激光束的方向上的元件性能上的差异。一般情况下,沿着激光束方向上的均匀性较高,而其扫描方向上的均匀性较差.因此,根据本发明第四实施例,沿着显示器的列的所有像素的所有驱动TFT在激光束方向上对准。由此,该列内的TFT的均匀性尽可能地高,而不同列之间的差异将很大。然而后者不太重要,因为列到列的变化可以使用如实施例3所述的方法来校正。通过这种方式,可以实现具有改进的像素到像素均匀性的显示器,同时与实施例3所述的方法相比不会增加成本.
实施例7
根据本发明的第七实施例,本发明的方法在AMP(O)LED显示器中在数据驱动器级下以进一步改进的方式被实施.
在实施例3的替换形式中以及在实施例4的相同主旨内,在制造TFT期间,显示器件中一行的所有驱动TFT可以在激光束的方向上对准。在这种情况下,一行内的TFT的均匀性尽可能地高,而行到行的变化将很大。为了解决这个问题,另外需要为显示器的每行确定亮度校准因子。这可以利用与实施例3所限定的相应方式来实施,但是也可以代替地研究每行的整体亮度.之后,将如根据实施例3所获得的列校准因子以及上述的行校准因子利用与前述实施例相同的方式储存起来。在这种情况下,在储存的行和列校准因子基础上,将使用平均行和列校准因子的储存信息来处理列数据。通过本实施例,可以实现具有改进的像素到像素均匀性的显示器,与实施例3所建议的方案相比,它只稍微增加了成本。
实施例8
根据本发明的第八实施例,本发明的方法在AMP(O)LED显示器中在数据驱动器级下以进一步改进的方式被实施。
在上述实施例3-5中,列(和行)校准因子储存在附加的小存储器中。然而,根据本实施例,还可以利用与实施例2所述对所有像素级实施相同的方式通过熔断熔丝或元件的激光修整来进行校准.这可以在p-Si衬底上进行,也可以在附加的驱动电路上或连接到数据驱动器的电路上进行。本实施例的优点是可以用相对低的成本来实施。
实施例9
所有上述实施例都在于解决显示器寿命开始时,即制造期间或之后短时间内的显示均匀性的问题。但是在使用显示器时,在使用期间p-Si TFT的退化可能产生非均匀性。为了避免这个问题,可以给每个数据驱动器增加一个电流测量装置。优选地,这可以通过给每列增加一个结合电流测量装置的虚设像素来实现。这个电流测量装置的功能是监视显示器寿命期间该列的输出上的任何变化。应该注意的是,只需要监视输出的相对变化,即电流输出和初始测量输出之间的差异,正如根据上述实施例任一个,在显示器寿命开始时进行的亮度测量所限定的。为了避免破坏显示器工作和避免引起测量电路本身的TFT中的退化,相对变化的监视应该偶尔地进行而不是持续地进行.输出上的任何被监视的变化触发了适当的数据驱动器的校准因子的更新,例如通过计算和在适当的存储器位置中储存新的校准值来进行。
实施例10
尽管上述实施例主要集中在将本发明应用于AMP(O)LED显示器上,本实施例介绍了本发明的方法在数据驱动器级上对于被动聚合物或有机发光二极管显示器(P(O)LED)的实施.
根据本实施例,将所制造的被动P(O)LED显示器,包括最终驱动器集成电路,置于成像系统如基于CCD照相机的系统下面。该显示器导通,使将要研究的像素列发光(对将要研究的显示器的所有列重复这个过程。或者,可以一次寻址所有列,如上所述).确定沿着整列的整体亮度,然后将确定的亮度与用于该列的给定驱动输入的所希望亮度相比较。通过这一比较,确定驱动器IC输出的非均匀性的测量。对所有列重复进行上述过程,并且在全色显示器中对所有颜色重复进行上述过程。通过一次研究整列,使单独像素的随机亮度变化的影响最小。

在可能的情况下,使用储存在存储器中的校准因子,或者来源于储存的参数、查询表或分析函数的因子来修改数据驱动器的输入,以便保持在所有亮度级的所有列中的均匀性。对于这种修改的信号处理方案是现有技术中已知的。
前面已经结合特殊实施例介绍了本发明,但是显然,对于本领域技术人员来说很容易做出很多替换形式、修改形式和改型。特别是,几个实施例关于基于聚合物或有机LED的自发光器件进行说明,但是本发明也同样可以适用于其它类型的自发光显示器件,如场发射显示器、等离子体显示器等,并且还适用于非发光显示器,例如光阀型显示器,如液晶显示器.相应地,如这里所例举的本发明的优选实施例只是示意性的而不起限制作用.在不脱离下列权利要求书所限定的本发明精神和范围的情况下可以做出各种修改.
Claims (16)
1、一种改进主动矩阵显示器件(1)的输出均匀性的方法,其中为该显示器件的每个像素设置一个像素驱动电路(3),所述方法包括下列步骤:
-借助外部成像系统(2)检测显示器件(1)的至少一个像素(5)的第一发射亮度;
-借助检测到的第一亮度,确定与所述至少一个像素(5)连接的像素驱动电路(3)的输出的非均匀性;
-基于所述第一检测亮度,产生用于至少一个像素(5)的校准因子,用于修正像素驱动电路(3)的输出,以便改进均匀性。
2、根据权利要求1的方法,其中所述显示器件是自发光显示器件。
3、根据权利要求1或2的方法,其中所述显示器件是基于有机发光二极管的显示器件.
4、根据权利要求1的方法,还包括以下步骤:
-检测所述第一发射亮度之后,调整平均显示亮度,之后检测所述至少一个像素(5)的第二发射亮度,并
-基于所述第一和第二检测到的亮度,产生用于至少一个像素(5)的校准因子,用于修正驱动电路(3)的输出,以便改进均匀性。
5、根据权利要求1的方法,其中所述驱动电路(3)是像素驱动电路或数据驱动电路之一。
6、根据权利要求1的方法,其中所述显示器件(1)是聚合物或有机发光二极管显示器件。
7、根据权利要求6的方法,其中检测至少一个像素(5)的发射亮度的步骤包括为多个像素的每个像素单独检测发射亮度的步骤.
8、根据权利要求6或7的方法,还包括以下步骤:在作为制造所述晶体管期间的激光再结晶步骤期间的激光束方向的方向上,在一列或一行像素其中之一对准所有像素的所有晶体管。
9、根据权利要求1的方法,其中所述显示器件(1)是被动矩阵聚合物或有机发光二极管显示器件.
10、根据权利要求1的方法,其中检测至少一个像素(5)的发射亮度的步骤包括联合地测量由列驱动器件共同控制的一组像素的发射亮度的步骤,所述一组像素例如是一列或一行像素。
11、根据权利要求1的方法,其中通过下列多种方法之一将所述校准因子储存在驱动电路(3)中:在存储器件中储存校准因子,熔断晶体管衬底或附加驱动集成电路其中之一上的熔丝,或晶体管衬底或附加驱动集成电路其中之一的激光修整.
12、一种用于校准显示器件(1)的系统,用于改进其输出均匀性,它包括用于保持要被校准的显示器件(1)的单元、设置成在使用时从显示器件(1)的整个显示器件表面来检测发射亮度的成像系统(2),以及用于将关于发射亮度的信息传送回显示器件(1)的反馈系统(6),该系统设置成执行根据权利要求1-11中任一项的方法.
13、根据权利要求12的系统,其中所述显示器件(1)是自发光显示器件。
14、根据权利要求12的系统,其中所述显示器件(1)是基于有机发光二极管的显示器件。
15、一种用于如权利要求12所限定的系统的自发光显示器件(1)。
16、根据权利要求15限定的自发光显示器件(1),其中该显示器件包括设置成行和列结构的多个发光像素,其中每列或每行像素与数据驱动电路连接,其中每列或行包括结合了电流测量装置的附加非发光像素,用于监视来自所述数据驱动电路的输出信号随着时间的相对变化。
