背景技术

具体实施方式
应当理解,虽然本文在有源矩阵有机发光二极管(AMOLED)显示器的背景下描述了实施例,但是本文中的实施例属于均匀性校正和补偿的方法,并不限制该方法操作下的显示技术和在其中实施了该方法的显示器的操作。本文中所述的方法适用于任意数量的各种类型和实施方式的具有像素的各种视觉显示技术,包括但不限于发光二极管显示器(LED)、电致发光显示器(ELD)、有机发光二极管显示器(OLED)、等离子显示面板(PSP)、微LED或量子点显示器等。
图1是实施了下文中进一步描述的方法的示例性显示系统150的图。显示系统150包括显示面板120、地址驱动器108、数据驱动器104、控制器102和存储器106。
显示面板120包括按行和列布置的像素110的阵列(仅明确示出一个)。每个像素110可分别被编程,以发出具有分别编程的亮度值的光。控制器102接收表示要在显示面板120上显示的信息的数字数据。控制器102发送信号132至数据驱动器104,并发送时序信号134至地址驱动器108,以驱动显示面板120上的像素110显示所示信息。因此,显示面板120的多个像素110包括适用于根据控制器102接收的输入数字数据动态地显示信息的显示阵列或显示屏。显示屏和其像素的各种子集限定了“显示区域”,“显示区域”可用于监视和管理显示亮度。显示屏能够根据由控制器102接收的数据显示图像和视频信息流。电压源114提供恒定的电源电压或者可以用作由来自控制器102的信号控制的可调节的电压源。显示系统150也可以结合来自电流源或接收器(未示出)的特征来向显示面板120中的像素110提供偏置电流,从而减少像素110的编程时间。
出于说明性的目的,在图1的显示系统150中仅明确示出了一个像素110。应当理解,显示系统150设有显示屏,该显示屏包括多个诸如像素110的像素的阵列,并且显示屏不限于特定数量的行和列的像素。例如,显示系统150可设有通常用于移动设备、基于监视器的设备和/或投影设备的显示器中具有多个行列的像素的显示屏。在多通道或彩色显示器中,显示器中将存在多个不同类型的像素,每个像素负责再现特定通道的颜色或诸如红色、绿色、蓝色或白色等颜色。这种像素也可以被称为“子像素”,一组“子像素”共同在显示器的特定的行和列上提供想要的颜色,一组子像素也可以共同被称为“像素”。
像素110由通常包括驱动晶体管和发光器件的驱动电路或像素电路操作。在下文中,像素110可以指代像素电路。发光器件可选地为有机发光二极管,但是本公开内容的实施方式也适用于具有其他电致发光器件(包括电流驱动发光器件和上文所列的那些发光器件)的像素电路。像素110中的驱动晶体管可选地为N型或P型的非晶硅薄膜晶体管,但是本公开内容的实施不限于具有特定极性晶体管的像素电路或不仅限于具有薄膜晶体管的像素电路。像素电路110还可以包括用于存储编程信息并允许像素电路110在被寻址之后驱动发光器件的存储电容器。因此,显示面板120可以是有源矩阵显示阵列。
如图1所示,在显示面板120中的左上的像素所示的像素110耦合至选择线124、电源线126、数据线122和监控线128。还可以包括读取线,用来控制与监控线的连接。在一个实施方式中,电压源114还可以向像素110提供第二电源线。例如,每个像素可以耦合至用Vdd充电的第一电源线126和与Vss耦合的第二电源线127,并且像素电路110可以位于第一和第二电源线之间,以利于在像素电路的发光阶段期间两电源线之间的驱动电流。应当理解,显示面板120的像素阵列中的每个像素110耦合至适当的选择线、电源线、数据线和监控线。应当注意,本公开内容的各方面可应用于具有诸如与额外的选择线的连接等额外连接的像素以及具有较少连接的像素。
参照显示面板120的像素110,选择线124由地址驱动器108设置,并且可以用于使得像素110的编程操作成为可能,例如通过激活开关或晶体管以允许数据线122对像素110进行编程。数据线122将来自数据驱动器104的编程信息传送至像素110。例如,数据线122可以用于将编程电压或编程电流施加于像素110,以便对像素110进行编程从而发出所期望的亮度。由数据驱动器104通过数据线122供应的编程电压(或编程电流)是适合于使像素110根据由控制器102接收的数字数据发出所期望亮度的光的电压(或电流)。可以在像素110的编程操作期间向像素110施加编程电压(或编程电流),以对像素110的诸如存储电容器等存储器件充电,从而使像素110在编程操作之后的发光操作期间能够发出所期望亮度的光。例如,像素110中的存储器件可以在编程操作期间被充电,以在发光操作期间向驱动晶体管的栅极或源极端子中的一个或多个施加电压,从而使驱动晶体管根据存储器件上存储的电压将驱动电流传输通过发光器件。
通常,在像素110中,在像素110的发光操作期间由驱动晶体管传送通过发光器件的驱动电流是由第一电源线126供应并排放至第二电源线127的电流。第一电源线126和第二电源线127耦合至电压源114。第一电源线126可以提供正电源电压(例如,在电路设计中通常被称为“Vdd”的电压),并且第二电源线127可以提供负电源电压(例如,在电路设计中通常被称为“Vss”的电压)。在供电线中的一个或另一个(例如,电源线127)固定在接地电压或另一参考电压的情况下,也可实现本公开内容的实施方式。
显示系统150还包括监控系统112。再次参照显示面板120的像素110,监控线128将像素110连接至监控系统112。监控系统112可以与数据驱动器104集成,或者可以是单独的独立系统。特别是,监控系统112可选地通过在像素110的监控操作期间监控数据线122的电流和/或电压来实现,并且可以完全省略监控线128。监控线128允许监控系统112测量与像素110相关的电流或电压,从而提取表明像素110的劣化或老化或者表明像素110的温度的信息,或者如下文所述测量由像素110响应于特定的输入灰度驱动电平而输出的电流。在一些实施例中,显示面板120包括专用于感测像素110中实现的温度的温度感测电路,而在其他实施例中,像素110包括既感测温度又驱动像素的电路。例如,监控系统112可以通过监控线128提取流过像素110中的驱动晶体管的电流,从而基于测得的电流和基于在测量期间施加至驱动晶体管的电压确定驱动晶体管的阈值电压或其偏移。
控制器102和存储器106共同或结合补偿块(未示出)利用补偿数据或校正数据,以处理和校正从制造时起存在的各种缺陷、变化和非均匀性,以及可选地在使用后进一步出现的老化和劣化的缺陷。在一些实施例中,校正数据包括用于校正像素的亮度的数据,这些数据是通过使用诸如照相机等外部光学测量系统或诸如光电二极管等内部光学反馈或其他集成光学测量器件测量和处理而获得的。一些实施例采用监控系统112表征像素的行为,并随着显示器的老化继续监控老化和劣化,并且更新校正数据以补偿所述随时间的老化和劣化。
参照图2,将简要描述典型像素亮度响应曲线200。发光显示器的典型像素响应于被特定的灰度驱动电平编程或驱动而产生特定值的亮度。在使用8位灰度值的系统中,灰度驱动电平的总数为256,即0至255。应当理解,本文中所述的方法同样适用于每通道使用不同的位数的显示系统。根据这些灰度驱动电平产生的亮度从亮度的下限(0%)随着从0至255的灰度驱动电平范围增加至由像素可达到的亮度电平的上限(100%)。如图2中的曲线所示,通常,像素亮度响应曲线200不是线性的,而是遵循所需的伽马函数,例如,1.8或2.2的伽马。
并且,参照图3,将描述均匀性校正的像素偏移方法300。选择多个预定的灰度驱动电平(PN),其代表显示面板上可用的灰度范围的主要部分(302)。例如,图2描绘了两个这样的点P1和P2,其分别处于100和200灰度驱动电平处。尽管仅示出了两个预定的灰度驱动电平,但是通常可以选择任何数量的预定的灰度驱动电平。另外,也可以使用不同的灰度驱动电平,只要它们跨越和代表可用范围的主要部分即可。
然后,在每个预定的灰度驱动电平下驱动和测量每个像素(304)。在一些实施例中,例如通过诸如照相机等外部光学测量系统或通过诸如光电二极管等集成光学检测器,在每个像素被预定的电平驱动的同时光学地测量每个像素的亮度。在其他实施例中,在每个像素被预定的灰度驱动电平驱动的同时,使用监控系统电力测量每个像素的电流输出。在其他实施例中,利用光学测量和电力测量的组合。
创建了均匀平场的偏移值是根据先前获得的这样的测量值确定的,或者是连同这些测量值的取得一起确定的(306)。在每个预定的灰度驱动电平下每个像素的偏移值是灰度驱动电平与这些像素共同产生均匀平场所需的该像素的预定灰度驱动电平之间的偏差。由于产生均匀平场的偏移值实质上是相关的,是根据产生均匀平场的所有像素的环境确定的,所以可减轻和/或避免由试图朝向一些绝对的所需的亮度值(所有像素可达到的或者不是所有像素都可达到的)单独校正每个像素而产生的问题。构成均匀平场的标准可以按照亮度均匀性被光学地限定,或仅基于电力测量(例如电力测量驱动电流的均匀性)被限定。
在一些实施例中,利用来自前述步骤304的像素的光学的和/或电力测量(可选地连同已知的像素的特性和/或使用算法)来确定为创建均匀平场每个像素在每个预定的灰度驱动电平下所需的偏移值。在其他实施例中,使用迭代的方法。在使用迭代方法的实施例中,每个像素的灰度驱动电平偏离预定的驱动电平变化,同时光学地、电力地或使用这两种方式测量像素(304),直到得到均匀平场为止,由此确定产生均匀平场的最终的像素偏移值(306)。在任一种方法中,对于每个预定的灰度驱动电平,该过程会得出包括显示面板的所有像素的一个偏移阵列。应当注意,由于偏移值的幅度相对小,用于存储针对每个预定的灰度驱动电平的偏移值所需的位数小于用于存储均匀性创建灰度驱动电平所需的位数。
例如,在诸如图2所示的具有两个预定的灰度驱动电平的实施例中,对于每个预定的灰度驱动电平P1和P2,均匀性创建驱动电平(U)和像素偏移值(O)之间的关系如下:
P1+O1=U1 (1)
P2+O2=U2 (2)
其中,O1是像素在预定的灰度驱动电平P1下为产生均匀的平场所需的灰度驱动电平的偏移量,它是通过均匀性校正驱动电平U1得到的,并且O2是像素在预定的灰度驱动电平P2下为产生均匀的平场所需的灰度驱动电平的偏移量,它是通过均匀性校正驱动电平U2得到的。
一旦每个像素产生均匀性的偏移被确定(306)并被存储在各自的阵列中,则据此确定了每个像素的校正函数(308),并且利用这一函数以补偿显示面板的非均匀性的方式来校正视频数据(310)。由于在任何一个时刻很少量的像素被预定的灰度驱动电平中的任何一个精确地驱动,因此需要一些插入和外推应用于像素的任何灰度驱动电平的校正的函数。
并且,参照附图4,将描述图3的方法的均匀性校正函数U(k)400。图4的示例示出了线性均匀性校正函数U(k)400,该函数是根据选择了诸如图2所示的两个预定的灰度驱动电平P1和P2的实施例确定的。在第一预定的灰度驱动电平P1=100时,由步骤304、步骤306确定该像素为形成均匀的平场所需的偏移O1=-5,而在第二预定的灰度驱动电平P2=200时,由步骤304、步骤306确定该像素为形成均匀的平场所需的偏移O2=-4。
如上所述,均匀性校正函数U(k)优选为每个可能的输入灰度驱动电平k提供均匀性校正驱动电平。对于利用两个预定的灰度驱动电平并因此为每个像素储存两个偏移值的实施例,可以确定如下的具备这些偏移和输入驱动电平k作为其参数的线性函数:
U(k)=B*k+C (3)
其中,B被定义为线性均匀性校正函数U(k)400的斜率或增益,并且通过下列公式获得:
B=((P2+O2)-(P1+O1))/(P2-P1)=(100+O2–O1)/100 (4)
并且,其中C被定义为线性均匀性校正函数U(k)400的偏移,并且通过下列公式获得:
C=(P1+O1)–B*P1=100+O1–100–O2+O1=2O1–O2 (5)
在图4所示的特定情况下,线性均匀性校正函数U(k)400因此为:
U(k)=(100+O2–O1)*k/100+2O1–O2 (6)
对于特定偏移O1=-5和O2=-4,其值为:
U(k)=1.01*k–6 (7)
在一些实施例中,在充分使用显示器之后,再次测量像素,由步骤304、306确定新的偏移,并且使用该偏移来确定校正函数U(k)(308)。
因此,对于每个像素,均匀性校正函数U(k)400代表对于任何输入灰度驱动电平k的线性外推和插入的均匀性校正电平,仅使用存储的针对像素的偏移和k作为输入。这一函数用于校正输入灰度驱动值,以产生能改善均匀性的灰度驱动值,从而补偿显示器的非均匀性(310)。
如上所述,预定的灰度驱动电平的数量可以多于两个,并且可以是跨越可用的灰度驱动范围的主要部分的任何数量。对于预定的灰度驱动电平的数量N大于两个的实施例,为了考虑在像素的响应的非线性中的额外的非线性,就不是单一的线性均匀性创建校正函数,而是可以使用分段线性曲线拟合。在这种情况下,均匀性校正函数U(k)是分段线性的,并且以类似于图4相关的实施例所述的方式仅表示为偏移O1,…ON和输入灰度驱动电平的函数,但是是针对分段均匀性校正函数的每个“分段”的。
或者,对于具有N个预定的灰度电平的实施例,可以使用所确定的多个点((P1-O1,P1),…(PN-ON,PN))来生成曲线拟合多项式,通常是1至N-1之间的任何阶的。在这种情况下,生成曲线拟合函数的确定点用偏移来表示,使得每个像素生成的多项式函数是仅需要从存储的阵列中获得的像素的偏移的函数,将像素的输入灰度驱动电平k作为输入值以产生均匀性创建灰度驱动电平。
尽管已经图示和描述了本公开内容的特定实施方式和应用,但是应该理解,本公开内容不限于本文中公开的具体的结构和组成,在不脱离所附权利要求书所限定的发明的精神和范围的情况下,根据前述说明可得出各种修改、改变和变化。
Claims (15)
1.一种针对具有像素的发光显示面板的非均匀性的补偿方法,每个所述像素具有发光器件,所述方法包括:
选择多个灰度驱动电平,所述灰度驱动电平代表所述显示面板的可用灰度驱动电平范围的主要部分;
针对每个所述像素,
在每个预定的灰度驱动电平下测量所述像素;
针对每个所述预定的灰度驱动电平,使用所述测量的结果确定相对于所述像素的所述预定的灰度驱动电平的偏移值,所述偏移值创建均匀平场;
使用所述确定的偏移值确定均匀性校正函数;以及
使用所述均匀性校正函数校正所述像素的输入驱动电平,以补偿所述非均匀性。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中,测量所述像素包括使用外部光学测量系统和集成光学测量器件中的至少一个来进行亮度的光学测量。
3.根据权利要求2所述的方法,其中,用针对每个所述预定的灰度驱动电平的所述确定的偏移值所创建的所述均匀平场包括由所述发光显示面板的每个所述像素产生的均匀的亮度。
4.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中,测量所述像素包括使用所述发光显示面板的监控系统来对所述像素的输出电流进行电力测量。
5.根据权利要求4所述的方法,其中,用针对每个所述预定的灰度驱动电平的所述确定的偏移值所创建的所述均匀平场包括由所述发光显示面板的每个所述像素输出的均匀的电流。
6.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中,使用所述测量的结果确定所述偏移值包括使用先前得到的测量的结果来确定所述偏移值。
7.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中,使用所述测量的结果确定所述偏移值包括迭代地调整所述预定的灰度驱动电平的初始偏移值,并重复测量所述像素,直到达到创建所述均匀平场的所述偏移值为止。
8.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其还包括:将针对每个所述预定的灰度驱动电平的每个所述像素的每个偏移值存储在所述发光显示面板的存储器中。
9.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中,所选择的预定的灰度驱动电平的数量为两个,并且,其中,所述均匀性校正函数是根据每个所述预定的灰度驱动电平的所述偏移值生成的线性均匀性校正函数。
10.根据权利要求9所述的方法,其中,所述线性均匀性校正函数是所述输入驱动电平和每个所述预定的灰度驱动电平的所述偏移值的函数。
11.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中,所选择的预定的灰度驱动电平的数量N大于两个,并且,其中,所述均匀性校正函数是根据每个所述预定的灰度驱动电平的所述偏移值生成的分段线性均匀性校正函数。
12.根据权利要求11所述的方法,其中,所述分段线性均匀性校正函数是所述输入驱动电平和每个所述预定的灰度驱动电平的所述偏移值的函数。
13.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中,所选择的预定的灰度驱动电平的数量N大于两个,并且,其中,所述均匀性校正函数是根据每个所述预定的灰度驱动电平的所述偏移值生成的N-1阶或更低阶的曲线拟合多项式均匀性校正函数。
14.根据权利要求13所述的方法,其中,所述N-1阶或更低阶的曲线拟合多项式均匀性校正函数是所述输入驱动电平和每个所述预定的灰度驱动电平的所述偏移值的函数。
15.根据权利要求1所述的方法,其中,每个所述发光器件包括有机发光器件。
