Description
本特許出願は、2008年7月15日に提出され「Systems and Methods for Physics−Based Tactile Messaging」と題された米国仮特許出願第61/080,978号、2008年7月15日に提出され「Systems and Methods for Mapping Message Contents to Virtual Physical Properties for Vibrotactile Messaging」と題された米国仮特許出願第61/080,981号、2008年7月15日に提出され「Systems and Methods for Shifting Sensor Haptic Feedback Function Between Passive and Active Modes」と題された米国仮特許出願第61/080,985号、2008年7月15日に提出され「Systems and Methods for Gesture Indication of Message Recipients」と題された米国仮特許出願第61/080,987号、2009年1月29日に提出され「Systems and Methods for Pseudo−Telepresence in a Shared Space」と題された米国仮特許出願第61/148,312号、及び2009年5月26日に提出され「Systems and Methods for Transmitting Haptic Messages」と題された米国仮特許出願第61/181,280号への優先権を主張し、これらの全体は参照により本明細書に組み込まれる。
本発明の例示の実施形態は、例えば、携帯電話等のメッセージング装置を備える。例示的な実施形態では、メッセージング装置は、Immersion社のVibeTonz(R) という振動触覚フィードバックシステムを搭載した「Samsung SGH−i710」移動式コンピュータを含む。別の実施形態では、メッセージング装置は、Immersion TouchSense(R)振動触覚フィードバックシステムとしても知られているImmersion社のTouchSense(R)テクノロジーシステムを含む。他のメッセージング装置及び触覚フィードバックシステムが利用されてもよい。
本明細書に提示される発明の実施形態は、触覚メッセージ送信のためのシステム及び方法を提供する。物理モデルを仮想メッセージ環境の中に組み込むことによって、実施形態は、直感的にユーザインターフェースを操作するためにユーザの日常の触覚体験及び運動感覚能力を利用することが出来る。従来のメッセージングシステムは、ほとんど又は全く直感的なジェスチャ操作を提供することがない。件名、草稿等を示す1次元の受信箱を有する従来のEメールメタファを使用するテキストメッセージングシステムは、視覚的及び認識的に集約的であり、メッセージの作成、送信、及び受信にユーザの高度の注意を要求する。さらに、従来のメッセージングシステムは、どのようにメッセージが送信されたかに関連付けられるコンテキスト情報をほとんど又は全く保持することがない。しかしながら、触覚メッセージ送信は、物理効果をメッセージに結び付けることでコンテンツの非言語コミュニケーションを容易にすることが出来る。
次に、複数の図面を通じて同様の番号が同様の要素を示す図面を参照すると、図1は、本発明の一実施形態による触覚メッセージ送信のためのシステムのブロック図である。図1に示されるように、システム100は、例えば、携帯電話、PDA(portable digital assistant)、携帯型メディアプレーヤ、又は携帯型ゲーム装置等のメッセージング装置102を備える。メッセージング装置102は、ネットワークインターフェース112、センサ114、ディスプレイ116、アクチュエータ118、スピーカ120、及びトラックボール122と通信するプロセッサ110を備える。
図3は、本発明の一実施形態による触覚メッセージ送信のための方法の流れ図である。本発明の実施形態は様々な装置で利用され得るが、図3に示される工程は、図1に示されるブロック図及び図2に示される装置に関連して記載される。
図5a及び5bは、本発明の一実施形態による触覚メッセージ送信の例示である。図5aは、タッチスクリーンディスプレイ504を有するメッセージング装置502を含む。また、メッセージング装置502は、タッチスクリーンディスプレイ504に示される仮想メッセージ環境510を生成するプロセッサ(図5a及び5bには示されない)を備える。仮想メッセージ環境510は、仮想ゲートウェイを有する。また、図5aに示されるように、仮想メッセージ環境は、仮想メッセージオブジェクト520を含む。この例示では、仮想メッセージオブジェクト520は、文書管又は巻物の形態である。
本発明の実施形態は、デジタル電子回路で、又はコンピュータハードウェア、ファームウェア、ソフトウェア、又はこうした技術の組み合わせで実装され得る。一実施形態では、コンピュータは、1つ又は複数のプロセッサを備えてもよい。プロセッサは、例えば、プロセッサに結合されるRAM(random access memory)等のコンピュータ可読媒体を備える。プロセッサは、例えば、メッセージング用の1つ以上のコンピュータプログラムを実行するように、メモリに記憶されるコンピュータ実行可能プログラム命令を実行する。このようなプロセッサは、マイクロプロセッサ、DSP(digital signal processor)、ASIC(application−specific integrated circuit)、FPGA(field programmable gate array)、及び状態機械を備えてもよい。このようなプロセッサは、PLC、PIC(programmable interrupt controller)、PLD(programmable logic device)、PROM(programmable read−only memory)、EPROM又はEEPROM(electronically programmable read−only memory)、又は他の類似の装置等のプログラム可能電子装置をさらに備えてもよい。

Claims (18)

前記仮想オブジェクト及び前記仮想力に少なくとも部分的に基づいて触覚効果を決定するステップと、
前記仮想力が適用された仮想オブジェクトが仮想ゲートウェイを通過するかどうか及び受信者の状態に少なくとも部分的に基づいて、前記仮想オブジェクトを送信するかどうかを決定するステップと
を含み、
前記仮想オブジェクトが送信されない場合、前記仮想オブジェクトが仮想環境内に留まっていることをシミュレートする触覚効果が決定されることを特徴とする方法。
- 前記触覚効果を出力するように構成されるアクチュエータに触覚信号を送信するステップをさらに含むことを特徴とする、請求項7に記載の方法。
- プログラムコードを備えるコンピュータ可読媒体であって、前記プログラムコードが、
装置との物理的相互作用を感知するように構成されるセンサからセンサ信号を受信するためのプログラムコードであって、前記センサ信号は前記装置を移動させたジェスチャに関連付けられるプログラムコードと、
前記センサ信号に少なくとも部分的に基づいて仮想力を決定するためのプログラムコードと、
仮想環境の中の仮想オブジェクトに前記仮想力を適用するためのプログラムコードと、
前記仮想力が適用された仮想オブジェクトが仮想ゲートウェイを通過するかどうか及び受信者の状態に少なくとも部分的に基づいて、前記仮想オブジェクトを送信するかどうかを決定するためのプログラムコードと
を備え、
前記仮想オブジェクトが送信されない場合、前記仮想オブジェクトが前記仮想環境内に留まっていることをシミュレートする触覚効果が決定されることを特徴とするコンピュータ可読媒体。 - 前記仮想オブジェクトは仮想メッセージオブジェクトを含み、前記仮想メッセージオブジェクトを送信するかどうかを決定するためのプログラムコードをさらに備えることを特徴とする、請求項9に記載のコンピュータ可読媒体。
- 前記センサ信号に少なくとも部分的に基づいて前記仮想メッセージオブジェクトの送信特性を決定するためのプログラムコードと、
前記仮想メッセージオブジェクト及び前記仮想メッセージオブジェクトの前記送信特性を送信するためのプログラムコードと
をさらに備えることを特徴とする、請求項10に記載のコンピュータ可読媒体。 - 前記仮想環境は仮想メッセージ環境を含み、
前記仮想メッセージオブジェクトの受信者に関連付けられる受信信号を受信するためのプログラムコードと、
前記仮想メッセージ環境に前記仮想ゲートウェイを表示するためのプログラムコードと
をさらに備えることを特徴とする、請求項10に記載のコンピュータ可読媒体。 - 装置との物理的相互作用を感知するように構成されるセンサからセンサ信号を受信し、前記センサ信号は前記装置を移動させたジェスチャに関連付けられ、
前記センサ信号に少なくとも部分的に基づいて仮想力を決定し、
仮想環境内の仮想オブジェクトに前記仮想力を適用し、且つ
前記仮想力が適用された仮想オブジェクトが仮想ゲートウェイを通過するかどうか及び受信者の状態に少なくとも部分的に基づいて、前記仮想オブジェクトを送信するかどうかを決定するプロセッサと、
前記プロセッサと通信するネットワークインターフェースと、
前記プロセッサと通信するディスプレイであって、前記仮想環境を表示するように構成されるディスプレイと
を備え、
前記仮想オブジェクトが送信されない場合、前記仮想オブジェクトが前記仮想環境内に留まっていることをシミュレートする触覚効果が決定されることを特徴とするシステム。 - 前記プロセッサが、前記仮想オブジェクトは仮想メッセージオブジェクトを含み、前記仮想メッセージオブジェクトを送信するかどうかを決定するようにさらに構成されることを特徴とする、請求項13に記載のシステム。
- 前記プロセッサが、
前記センサ信号に少なくとも部分的に基づいて前記仮想メッセージオブジェクトの送信特性を決定し、且つ
前記仮想メッセージオブジェクト及び前記仮想メッセージオブジェクトの前記送信特性を送信するようにさらに構成されることを特徴とする、請求項14に記載のシステム。 - 前記センサが、圧力センサ、ジャイロスコープセンサ、加速度計、又はタッチセンサ式入力装置を含むことを特徴とする、請求項13に記載のシステム。
- 受信装置を備えるシステムであって、前記受信装置が、
装置との物理的相互作用を感知するように構成されるセンサから仮想オブジェクトに関連付けられる信号を受信し、前記信号は前記装置を移動させたジェスチャに関連付けられ、
前記信号及び前記仮想オブジェクトに少なくとも部分的に基づいて仮想力を決定し、
前記仮想オブジェクト及び前記仮想力に少なくとも部分的に基づいて触覚効果を決定し、且つ
前記仮想力が適用された仮想オブジェクトが仮想ゲートウェイを通過するかどうか及び受信者の状態に少なくとも部分的に基づいて、前記仮想オブジェクトを送信するかどうかを決定するように構成されるプロセッサを備え、
前記仮想オブジェクトが送信されない場合、前記仮想オブジェクトが仮想環境内に留まっていることをシミュレートする触覚効果が決定されることを特徴とするシステム。
- 前記プロセッサが、触覚効果を出力するように構成されるアクチュエータに触覚信号を送信するようにさらに構成されることを特徴とする、請求項17に記載の受信装置。
