Abstract
Description
上記の触覚変速装置を用いる場合、様々な触覚変速パターンが実施可能であり、ユーザが変速ギアを選択することができる(または他の形態のコンピュータインターフェイスアプリケーションにおいて選択させることができる)。変速パターンは、典型的に、シフトレバー12の位置を選択すべく移動可能な領域または区域を有しており、レバー12が望まれない位置、すなわち、移動が許容される領域の境界の外側である「規制された」領域または区域には、動くことができなくなっている。機械的な選択のみを使用することに対して触覚装置を使用する変速パターンがもたらす利益は、複数の異なる変速パターンがアクチュエータを用いて、機械的部材を移動させることなく変更可能であることである。
触覚変速装置10において、いくつかの異なる実施形態が可能であり、実施形態の中には、すべて触覚機能を用いる実施形態もあれば、触覚機能と機械的構成とを組み合わせて用いる実施形態もある。
本実施形態は、すべて触覚機能によるものであり、シフトレバー12に出力される力および障壁は、アクチュエータ60により産み出される。本実施形態の一例は、図2,3a,3bにおいて上述した通りである。ここで、シフトレバーは、自由度2の作動領域全体を用い、シフトパターン内の障壁は、力が出力されるアクチュエータにより生じる。好ましくは、機構、アクチュエータ−力変換装置およびアクチュエータは、レバーの動きに対する機械的障壁のような抵抗力が「強い」障壁および境界を形成するように設計される。アクチュエータは、レバー12が水平または垂直移動が許容されない領域内にあるときに、とても硬い弾性力として機能する力を出力することができる。レバー12がギアの外または選択の間、例えば、図4a−cに示される選択を分割する線上、に移動したとき、高い忠実性の「丘」または移動止めの感覚が出力されるようにしてもよい。丘感覚は、力の「ピーク」または「頂上」に達する(例えば、選択の中間点)までに距離にともなって強さを引き上げる力である。その地点における力は、方向を変え、レバーを次の選択に押し出す。最初に高い強さ、そして、レバーがさらに次の選択に動くにつれて傾斜させる。これについては、出願中の米国出願09/783,986号により詳しく記載されており、これを参照して組み込まれる。移動止め、弾性力、衝撃、制動、振動、テクスチャ等のような選択の間や障壁における他の力感覚も以下に記載するように提供可能である。
本実施形態は、上述した全体的に能動的な実施形態と類似しているが、シフトレバー12の作動領域に機械的なゲートが付加されている。例えば、ゲートは、プレート32の開口部34上に位置することができる。ゲートは、単に開口部として提供される。実施されるパターンの1つとして厳密に形成され、ゲート内に付加的なパターンを許容する。例えば、図4aに示されるように形成されたマニュアル変速パターンゲートを用いるとき、図4b,4cのオートマチックおよびシーケンシャル変速パターンも使用することができる。
本実施形態の触覚変速装置10において、直流モータのように、X軸において力を出力する能動的アクチュエータは、ブレーキおよび機械的弾性力のような受動的アクチュエータに置き換えられる。シフトレバー12のX軸移動は、全体的に閉じ込められている(オートマチックまたはシーケンシャルモードにおいて)か、中央水平経路において中央寄せする弾性力とともに線形移動させることに限定される(マニュアル変速におけるニュートラル領域において)かのどちらかであり、全体的に能動的なアクチュエータは、実施形態によっては必要とされないかもしれない。マニュアル変速モードにおいて(図4aの「N」表示、またはその近くにおいて)、すなわち、いずれのギア位置でも固定されるX軸において、ブレーキその他の受動的アクチュエータは、レバーがニュートラル位置にないときはつねに固定されることとしてもよい。ブレーキは、シフトレバーがマニュアルパターンにおける水平経路に戻るときに固定が解除されることができる(オートマチックまたはシーケンシャルモードにおいては固定が維持される)。Y軸アクチュエータは、本実施形態において、DCモータのように、全体的に能動的であり、ユーザに変速感覚の進路を定義する、例えば、丘、振動および弾性力を生じさせるべく移動したとき、レバー12に力感覚を生じさせるべく用いられる。また、能動的Y軸アクチュエータは、レバー12がマニュアル変速パターンにおける垂直経路の間にある水平経路内を移動するとき、ユーザが進入すべきでない領域(図4aに示される領域A,B,C,Dのような)にレバーを移動させることを規制する。
本実施形態は、上述した実施形態と類似するものであり、能動的アクチュエータがシフトレバーのY軸移動の力感覚を出力すべく用いられ、ブレーキのような受動的アクチュエータがX軸について用いられる。本実施形態は、上述したゲートを備えた実施形態と同様の機械的なゲートが付加される。ゲートは、レバーが中央経路にあり、進入を規制すべき領域に移動するときに、Y軸アクチュエータがシフトレバーに小へ気力を出力する必要性を排除する。このように、丘、移動止め、振動および弾性力のような、シフトレバーの動きおよび選択を強調する力感覚を出力するだけで済むため、Y軸アクチュエータは、より小さくすることができる。
本実施形態は、Y軸アクチュエータとして能動的アクチュエータおよび受動的アクチュエータを組み合わせて用いることができる。モータのような、能動的アクチュエータ部は、丘、移動止めおよび弾性力のような能動的触覚効果として用いられ得る。ブレーキのような受動的アクチュエータ部は、障壁力を供給すべく用いられ、ギア位置の間のニュートラル領域の外側の移動を規制する。X軸アクチュエータは、受動的アクチュエータであり、好ましくは、シフトレバーが常にニュートラル位置(図4aにおけるパターンの中央)に復帰するように中央寄せ弾性力を備える。図4aの標準的なマニュアル変速パターンにおいて、本実施形態においては機械的なゲートを用いていないので、レバーがニュートラル位置の外側のY軸方向に移動したときは常に、X軸の受動的アクチュエータは、固定され、レバーを垂直経路に保持する。同様に、シフトレバーが3つのシフトコラム(マニュアルモードにおける)の1つの外側のX軸方向に移動するときは常に、Y軸の受動的アクチュエータは、固定され、進入を規制すべき領域へのY軸の動きを規制する。好ましくは、非常に早い応答のアクチュエータを、シフトレバーが中央の水平経路へ向かってまたはその外側へ動くときに、供給される。
能動的アクチュエータおよび受動的アクチュエータの組み合わせは、本実施形態においてX軸およびY軸の双方において力を出力するのに用いられる。モータのような、能動的アクチュエータ部は、丘および弾性力のような、能動的触覚感のために使用され、ブレーキのような、受動的アクチュエータ部は、所望のパターンの外側のシフトレバーの動きを規制するのに用いられる。X軸アクチュエータは、装置がオートマチックまたはシーケンシャルモード(または他の同様のモード)にあるときに、ブレーキをX軸の動きを規制するために用いることができ、能動的モータは、中央寄せのための弾性力を提供することができる。
本実施形態は、ブレーキのような、受動的アクチュエータのみをシフトレバーのX軸およびY軸の動きのために用いるものである。ブレーキは、シフトレバーに交互に適用され、シフトレバーが選択されたシフトパターンの外側に動くことを規制する。機械的な弾性力は、シフトレバーに弾性力による中央寄せの力を供給するために用いられ、中央のニュートラル位置Nに向けて付勢されるように生じさせる。オートマチック、シーケンシャル、またはそれに類似する1つの経路を有するモードにあるときに、X軸ブレーキは、ユーザが中央の水平経路から進入を防ぎたい領域(例えば、領域A,B,C,D)にシフトレバーを動かすことを規制する。シフトレバーがマニュアルモードにおけるギア位置に移動したとき、ブレーキはレバーを所定の位置に固定することができ、弾性力による付勢がレバーの移動を規制する。ブレーキは、移動止め、制動等のような、触覚感を生じさせることもでき、レバーをギア位置に嵌めるシミュレーションを行い、現在のユーザの選択を知らせることができる。オートマチックモードおよび所望の他のモードにおいて軽い抵抗力がブレーキによってシフトレバーに適用され、機械的ばねにより供給される弾性力を打ち消すこととしてもよい。代わりに、オートマチックモードにおいてブレーキは、それぞれのギアで固定され、シフトレバーのボタンや他の制御がユーザにより押下されることによりブレーキを解除し、シフトレバーが他のギア位置に移動可能とすることとしてもよい。実施形態によっては、ブレーキは、例えば、レバーが1つのギアから離れて他のギアへ向けて移動するとき、シフトレバーの位置情報にのみ基づいて開放されることとしてもよい。(ブレーキが例えば米国特許5,767,839号に記載されたようなレバーの少量の遊びを用いて固定されたとき、動きが感知され得る)。

- 前記操作部は、2つの回転自由度で移動可能であり、前記操作部は、5つの部材による平ループジンバル機構であることを特徴とする請求項1記載の装置。
- 複数の変速モードのうち少なくとも1つを選択するための操作部モードセレクタをさらに具備することを特徴とする請求項1記載の装置。
- 前記複数の変速モードは、オートマチックモード、マニュアルモード、およびシーケンシャルモードの少なくとも1つを具備することを特徴とする請求項26記載の装置。
- 前記変速モードのうち少なくとも2つは、前記操作部に異なる物理的特性を提供することを特徴とする請求項26記載の装置。
- 前記異なる物理的特性は、少なくとも2つの異なるモードにおいて前記操作部の異なる範囲の動きを含むことを特徴とする請求項28記載の装置。
- 前記異なる物理的特性は、少なくとも異なるモードにおいて出力される異なる力感覚を含むことを特徴とする請求項29記載の装置。
- 前記モードの1つにおいて、障壁力感覚が前記操作部に提供されることを特徴とする請求項30記載の装置。
- 少なくとも自由度1において操作部の位置を検知し、
乗り物の変速率を前記操作部の前記位置に基づいて変更可能とすべくデータを出力し、
少なくとも1つのアクチュエータを用いて前記操作部に力を出力することを特徴とする方法。 - 前記操作部は、パターン内を移動可能であり、前記パターンの境界の外側領域への移動が規制されることを特徴とする請求項32記載の方法。
- 前記操作部は、前記少なくとも1つのアクチュエータから出力される障壁力により前記外側領域への動きが規制されることを特徴とする請求項33記載の方法。
- 前記操作部に出力される前記力は、能動的な力を有し、前記少なくとも1つのアクチュエータは、能動的アクチュエータを具備することを特徴とする請求項34記載の方法。
- 前記操作部に出力される前記力は、抵抗力を有し、前記少なくとも1つのアクチュエータは、抵抗アクチュエータを具備することを特徴とする請求項34記載の方法。
- 前記操作部に出力される前記力は、前記障壁力を提供する抵抗力および触覚感を供給する能動的な力を有することを特徴とする請求項34記載の方法。
- 前記パターンを実現する機械的なゲートを用いて前記操作部における前記パターンの前記境界の前記外側領域への前記移動を規制することをさらに含む請求項32記載の方法。
- 前記機械的なゲートは、2つの異なるパターンを提供可能であり、前記パターンの一方は、水平経路により連結された少なくとも2つの垂直経路を有するマニュアル変速パターンであり、前記パターンの他方は、単一の垂直経路を有するオートマチック変速パターンであることを特徴とする請求項38記載の方法。
- 前記操作部のモードを変更したとき、前記機械的なゲートの構成を機械的に移動させることをさらに含むことを特徴とする請求項39記載の方法。
