この技術の内容は、ITOよりも仕事関数の大きい、酸化バナジウム(VOX)や酸化ルテニウム(RuOX)や酸化モリブデン(MOX)などの金属酸化物をITO上に50〜300(Å)の厚さにスパッタリングの手法を用いて成膜して、陽極であるITOから有機層へのホール注入時のエネルギー障壁を低減し、従来よりも低電圧駆動する有機EL素子を提供しようとするものである。
しかしながら、該文献中の記載によれば、例えば、酸化モリブデン層の透過率は10%(膜厚2150(Å)の時)と記載されており、スパッタリング成膜時の酸素脱離によると思われる光透過率の低さから、その膜厚に制限を受けている。
本発明のMoO3(3酸化モリブデン)は、基本的には、抵抗加熱蒸着により成膜される。その理由は、MoO3を蒸発材料に用いた場合には、真空中での加熱によって、スパッタ成膜時に問題となる酸素脱離の問題が全く観測されず、MoO3の化学量論組成が保持されたまま基板上に成膜されることが判明したからである。(もともと、MoO3それ自身は白色粉末の形態で入手可能であり、従って、化学量論組成を維持して成膜された場合は、原理的に無色透明の膜が得られるはずである。)
1)ホール輸送性物質とMoO3の積層膜、または混合膜を陽極に隣接するホール注入層として利用する形態(特願2003−358402、特開平11−251067号公報(米国特許第6423429号明細書)や特開2001−244079号公報(米国特許第6589673号)、等に記載の技術)
2)2種類以上の互いに異なるホール輸送性分子からなる、2層以上の複数のホール輸送層を隔てる界面にMoO3を存在させて、該界面でのホール移動障壁を低減させる、ホール移動障壁低減層として利用する形態(特願2003−384202号明細書に記載の技術)
3)ホール輸送性物質とMoO3の積層膜、または混合膜をマルチフォトン有機EL素子の電荷発生層(CGL:Charge Generation Layer)や、直列接続型有機太陽電池の直列接続層として利用する形態(特開2003−272860号公報)、特願2003−380338号明細書、等に記載の技術)
4)電極成膜時のダメージを低減する、ダメージ低減緩衝層(バッファー層)として利用する形態(特願2003−380338号明細書、等に記載の技術)
5)該MoO3含有層が、純粋な有機物層と比較して桁違いに低抵抗であることと、透明性に優れていることを利用して、光路長調整層として利用する形態(特開2001−244079号公報(米国特許第6589673号明細書、特願2003−380338、等に記載の技術)の全てに応用可能である。
で示されるアリールアミン化合物であるのが好ましい。
さらに、従来有機EL素子の作製に使用されている公知のものを適宜用いることができる。
これらの公知のホール輸送性有機物は、前記(A)、(B)に記載した要件のいずれかを満たすので、本発明のMoO3含層の構成物質として使用できる。
以下に実施例を挙げて本発明をさらに詳細に説明するが、本発明はこれにより限定されるものではない。

従って、有機EL素子や、有機太陽電池等の有機素子を構成する層として、より有用であることが判る。
ガラス基板上にパターニングされたITO(indium−tin−oxide)陽極上に、NPB(αNPD)とMoO3がモル比率1:1で混合された層を共蒸着により300Å形成する。

となる。(以下の説明ではこのような(簡便な)表記法を用いることとする。)
この、MoO3:NPB(1:1)の層中では、

なる酸化還元反応によってNPBのラジカルカチオン(NPB+)が生成している。
この構造の例は、

この形態では、MoO3層とNPB層が互いに接する界面で、前記、酸化還元反応によるラジカルカチオン(NPB+)の生成が起きている。

上記の、実施例は、本発明者らが、特開平11−251067号公報(米国特許第6423429号明細書)、特開2001−244079号公報(米国特許第6589673号明細書、特開2003−272860号公報、特願2003−358402号明細書、特願2003−380338号明細書、特願2003−384202号明細書で、主に使用してきた、FeCl3,V2O5,F4−TCNQ等の電子受容性物質に替えて、MoO3を使用したところに特徴があり、各素子の特性は上記特許文献に記された特性とほぼ同等であるが、MoO3はより透明性が高く、人体に無害であるため、様々の有機素子に、より好適に使用できる。

Claims (1)
- 基板上に成膜順に、
(A)陽極、
(B)3酸化モリブデンとホール輸送性有機物としてのNPBをモル比率1:1で混合してなる陽極隣接層、
(C)ホール輸送性有機物層としてのNPB、
(D)Alqに蛍光色素C545Tをドーピングしてなる発光層、
(E)有機物を有する有機物構造体、

前記有機物を有する有機物構造体は、前記陰極層に接する層であって、Liqが、Alqに対してモル比で1対1となるように混合されており、前記LiqによってAlqがラジカルアニオン化して電子注入層として機能することを特徴とする有機エレクトロルミネッセント素子。
