Abstract

온라인 출판은 단점도 가지고 있다. 컴퓨터 스크린은 종이보다 열등하다. 잡지 페이지와 같은 정도의 품질을 가질 때, SVGA 컴퓨터 스크린은 잡지 한 페이지의 약 1/5 정도의 정보만을 표시한다. 특히 주위 조명이 밝을 때, CRT(Cathode Ray Tube)나 LCD(Liquid Crystal Display)는 양쪽 모두 밝기와 컨트라스트 문제가 있다. 종이 위의 잉크는, 빛을 발하기보다는 빛을 반사하기 때문에, 주위 조명 아래에서 밝고 선명하다. 따라서, 사람들은 제본된 종이에 기반을 둔 포맷을 가진 신문, 잡지, 카탈로그, 브로셔, 및 다른 출판물들을 읽는 것을 자연적으로 선호한다.

도 18은 종이(604)에 대한 전면 배출구 진입로 및 잉크 카트리지(627)를 도시한다. 도 18을 참조하면, 종이(604)는 경첩을 단 상단부 트레이(607) 안으로 넣어지고 용수철 달린 인쇄용 압반(666) 위로 눌려져 내려온다. 상기 트레이(607)는 경첩(700)을 사용해서 섀시(606)에 장착된다. 각 경첩은 기저부, 경첩 지레 및 경첩 측면부를 가진다. 기저부 및 종이/매체 트레이(607)의 피봇들은, 상기 종이/매체 트레이(607)가 공급 호스들(646)을 비틀리게 하는 것을 방지하는 방식으로 회전하도록 상기 지레 및 측면부에 맞물린다.

카트리지(627)는 얇은 벽을 가진 케이싱(640)을 가진다. 잉크 블래더들(631 내지 635) 및 정착액 블래더(644)는 카트리지를 같이 거는 핀(645)에 의해 케이싱에 매달린다. 단일의 접착제 블래더(630)는 기저부 몰딩(637)에 수용된다. 이는 3000 페이지(1500장)를 프린트하고 접착할 수 있는 용량을 가진 완전히 재활용 가능한 제품이다.
도 2, 도 2a, 도 10, 도 11 및 도 19를 참조하면, 모터가 달린 매체 픽업 롤러 어셈블리(626)는 첫 번째 프린트 엔진(602)에 있는 (도시되지 않은) 종이 센서를 지나 매체 트레이(607)로부터 바로 나온 제일 위의 종이를 이중으로 된 멤제트TM프린트헤드 어셈블리로 밀어낸다.
두 대의 멤제트TM프린트 엔진들(602 및 603)은 일직선의 종이 경로를 따라서 서로 마주보며 한 줄로 늘어선 배치 상태로 장착된다. 종이(604)는 일체로 된, 동력이 공급되는 픽업 롤러들(626)에 의해 첫 번째 프린트 엔진(602)으로 당겨진다. 종이(604)의 위치와 크기가 감지되고 완전 블리드 프린팅이 시작된다.
정착액은 동시에 프린트되어 가능한 짧은 시간에 건조될 수 있도록 돕는다.
도 2a에 가장 잘 도시된 바와 같이, 멤제트TM프린트 엔진들(602 및 603)은 회전 마개, 잉크 흡수, 인쇄용 압반 겸용 장치(669)를 포함한다. 상기 마개 장치는 멤제트TM프린트 프린트헤드들(705)을 사용하지 않을 때 밀봉한다. 상기 장치는 마개를 열고 회전하여 일체형 잉크 흡수 장치가 되는데, 이는 통상적인 프린터 작동 개시 점검(startup maintenance) 중에 프린트헤드들(705)로부터 분사된 잉크를 흡수하는데 사용된다. 상기 장치는 동시에 내부의 마개 장치를 멤제트TM프린트헤드(705) 내부로 이동시켜서 공기가 노즐로 보호된 영역으로 흘러 들어가게 한다. 상기 장치의 세 번째 회전은 인쇄용 압반의 표면을 밖으로 위치시키는데, 상기 압반은 프린트하는 동안 종이(604)의 한 면을 지탱한다.
상기 종이는 (일직선의 종이 경로를 따라 배치된) 동력 공급되는 배출용 스파이크 휠들의 세트를 통해서 첫 번째 멤제트TM프린트 엔진(602) 밖으로 나오는데, 상기 스파이크 휠은 고무를 댄 롤러와는 반대로 작용한다. 이 스파이크들은 '젖은'프린트된 면들에 접촉하여 종이(604)를 두 번째 멤제트TM프린트 엔진(603)으로 연속하여 주입한다.

도 2, 도 2a, 도9, 도13 및 도 14에 도시된 바와 같이, 종이(604)는 이중으로 된 프린트 엔진들(602 및 603)을 지나서 제본기 어셈블리(605) 내부로 들어간다. 프린트된 페이지는 강인한 지지 롤러를 가진 동력 공급된 스파이크 휠 축(670)과 스파이크 휠들 및 순간적으로 동작하는 접착제 휠(673)을 가진 또 하나의 움직일 수 있는 축의 사이를 지난다. 움직일 수 있는 축/접착제 어셈블리(673)는 금속지지 브래킷에 장착되며, 캠 축(642)의 동작에 의해 앞으로 이동되어 동력 공급된 축(670)과 연결된다. 별도의 모터(675)가 상기 캠 축에 동력을 공급한다. 양쪽 모터(676) 모두 멤제트TM프린트헤드들에 의해 조정된다.
상기 접착제 휠 어셈블리(673)는 접착제 공급 호스(641)와 잉크 카트리지(627)를 연결하는 회전하는 연결기(680)를 가지며 부분적으로 비어 있는 축(679)으로 이루어진다. 상기 축(679)은 접착제 휠(681)과 연결되는데, 상기 접착제 휠은 방사상의 구멍들을 통한 모세관 작용에 의해 접착제를 흡수한다. 주조된 하우징이 접착제 휠(681)을 둘러싸며, 입구는 앞쪽에 있다. 축선회하는 측면부 몰딩들(683)과 용수철 달린 외부 문들(684)이 금속 지지 브래킷에 부착되며, 어셈블리(673)의 나머지 부분들이 앞쪽으로 밀려갈 때 경첩에 의해 옆으로 밀려 나간다.이러한 동작은 접착제 휠(681)을 주조된 하우징의 앞을 통해 노출되게 한다. 장력을 가진 스프링들(685)이 비동작 기간 동안 어셈블리를 닫고 접착제 휠(681)을 효과적으로 밀봉한다.
종이(604)가 접착제 휠 어셈블리(673)로 들어갈 때, 제본 어셈블리(605) 안으로 옮겨짐에 따라 (문서의 맨 첫 장은 제외하고) 접착제가 앞면의 수직 방향 한쪽 가장자리에 발라진다. 이러한 배치에서는 접착제가 각 페이지가 프린트되는 동안 발라지기 때문에 프린터를 통과하는 동안 별도의 접착 장소에서 종이의 움직임이 방해받거나 정지되는 일이 없다는 것을 이해해야 할 것이다. 이렇게 함으로써 프린터의 속도가 증가되지만, 페이지들이 "세로 방향"으로(즉, 종이의 긴 쪽에 평행한 방향으로) 배치된 프린터를 통과하는 것이 요구된다. 이에 따라 종이 트레이, 제본 장소 및 컬렉션 장소들이 차례로세로 방향으로 배치될 것이 요구된다. 이에 따라 프린터의 전체 길이가 너무 커서 한정된 공간을 가진 영역에 편안하게 들어맞지 않을 수 있다. 이러한 경우에, 매체 트레이, 제본 장소 및 컬렉션 장소들은 프린터의 길이를 짧게 하기 위해 "수평 방향"(종이의 이동방향에 평행한 종이의 짧은 쪽)으로 배치될 수 있다. 그러나, 접착 어셈블리는 여전히 접착제를 페이지들의 긴 쪽을 따라 발라야만 한다. 이러한 (도시되지 않은) 월프린터의 버전에서는, 왕복 운동하는 접착제 스트립으로 각 페이지의 세로 방향 가장자리에 접착제가 발라진다.
"수직 방향" 제본 어셈블리(605)가 도 13에 가장 잘 도시되었다. 상기 제본 어셈블리는 금속 지지 섀시(686), 네 개의 가로지르는 레일 위를 움직이는 용수철달린 주조 제본용 압반(687), 종이(604)가 건너서 지나간 후 문서(618)를 지탱하는 주조된 각진 압반(689), 및 지지 브래킷(691)을 가진 배출구(690)를 가진다. 프린트된 페이지(604)는 배출구(690)에 도착할 때까지 주입된다. 제본용 압반(687)은 휠들(692)과 동력 공급되는 케이블 감개 축(694)에 부착된 용수철 달린 강철 케이블(693)로 이루어진 고리 모양의 시스템을 통해 고속으로 앞으로 밀려진다. 케이블 감개 축(694)이 회전하면, 케이블 고리(693)는 짧아지며 제본용 압반(687)을 앞으로 수송한다. 상기 동력 공급되는 축(694)은 미끄러짐 클러치 장치를 가지며, 종이(604)를 이전 종이의 뒷면 쪽으로 밀어내고 접착/제본한 뒤 리턴 스프링들(699)의 작용에 의해 다음 프린트된 종이를 받아들이기 위한 원래 위치로 돌아오는데 필요한 속도를 제공한다. 왕복 운동하는 압반의 한 동작 주기는 2초 미만이 걸린다.
제본 어셈블리(605)는 페이지들을 하나씩 제본된 문서로 제본하며, 이에 따라 문서의 각 장들을 프린트하는데 특별히 더 시간을 더하지 않고도 제본된 문서들을 생성한다. 뿐만 아니라, 상기 제본 어셈블리는 종이를 이전 페이지에 누르기 바로 전에 접착제를 종이에 바른다. 이것은 각 페이지의 뒷면에 접착제를 바르고 연속하여 각 페이지를 다음 페이지에 누르는 것보다 효과적인데, 이는 종이 공급을 보충하는 것과 같이 프린트 과정에 방해가 있는 경우 마지막으로 부착된 페이지에 발라진 접착제가 열화되어 비효과적으로 되기 때문이다.
케이블(693)은 용수철이 달려서 양성적(positive) 압력을 이전 종이에 가하여 제본을 돕도록 한다. 뿐만 아니라, 각이 진 압반(689)은 축을 넘어선 배치에서의 문서(618)를 지탱할 수 있도록 밑부분보다 꼭대기 부분이 더 얕다.
스테퍼(stepper) 모터의 제어에 동작상으로 연결된 (도시되지 않은) 센서가, 상기 압반이 그 다음 페이지와 정확하게 접착할 수 있도록, 상기 문서에 제본되는 마지막 페이지의 위치를 결정하기 위해 사용될 수 있다.
종이 두드리개(643)는 각이 진 압반(689)으로 운반되는 동안 종이(604)를 제본기(605)의 한쪽으로 두드린다. 메인 PCB(612)는 각각 케이블 감개 축(694), 두드리개(643) 및 배출구(690)를 위한 모터들(695, 696 및 697)을 제어한다.
문서(618)가 제본되고 마무리되면, 동력 공급되는 배출구(690)가 열린다. (도시되지 않은) 템퍼 센서가, 배출구(690)가 닫히는 것을 방해하도록 작용하는 문서 엉킴 또는 다른 간섭들을 감지하기 위해 제공된다. 두드리개(643)는 또한 제본기(605)에서 나와 컬렉션 트레이(619)로 배출되는 동안 프린트된 문서(618)를 두드려 정렬시킨다. 하단 전면부 몰딩(610)에 있는 플라스틱 포일들(698)이 배출구(690)와 함께 작용하여, 마무리된 문서(618)를 컬렉션 트레이(619)의 뒤쪽으로 향하게 하고 그 이상의 문서들이 있으면 그것이 기존의 문서들과 부딪히지 않도록 공급한다. 복수의 유연성 있는 포일들이 제공될 수 있는데, 각각은 서로 다른 길이를 가져서 서로 다른 페이지 길이를 가지는 문서들을 수용할 수 있다. 컬렉션 트레이(619)는 투명한 플라스틱으로 주조되며, 어떤 로딩 아래 그 소켓에서 빼내진다. 제거되는 문서들에 대한 접근은 세 면에서 제공된다.

Claims (13)
- 일체로 된 제본 수단을 가진 디지털 프린터용 카트리지에 있어서,적어도 하나의 저장 영역들은 프린트용 착색제를 담고 있으며, 적어도 하나의 다른 저장 영역들은 상기 제본 수단이 사용하는 물질을 담고 있는, 복수 개의 저장 영역을 한정하는 하우징을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털 프린터용 카트리지.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 제본 수단이 사용하는 물질은 액체 접착제인 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털 프린터용 카트리지.
- 제 2 항에 있어서, 상기 저장 영역 중 하나는 검은색 잉크를 담기 위한 것임을 특징으로 하는 디지털 프린터용 카트리지.
- 제 3 항에 있어서, 상기 카트리지는 시안색, 마젠타색 및 노란색 잉크를 담기 위한 저장 영역들을 더 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털 프린터용 카트리지.
- 제 4 항에 있어서, 상기 카트리지는 잉크 정착액을 담기 위한 저장 영역을 더 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털 프린터용 카트리지.
- 제 4 항에 있어서, 상기 카트리지는 적외선 잉크를 담기 위한 저장 영역을 더 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털 프린터용 카트리지.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 각 저장 영역은 다른 저장 영역들과 관계하여 사용하고자 의도하는 양의 기대 수준에 대응하는 크기를 가지는 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털 프린터용 카트리지.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 하우징은 개방 단부에서 덮개와 맞물리도록 적응된 얇은 벽을 가진 케이싱을 포함하며;상기 저장 영역들은 별도의 블래더들이 접착제와 사용되는 다른 종류의 착색제 각각을 위해 제공되는 블래더들인 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털 프린터용 카트리지.
- 제 8 항에 있어서, 상기 블래더들은 배출용 노즐을 가지며, 사용시에 착색제 및 접착제가 노즐로 주입되도록 상기 컵의 한쪽 끝에서 매달려 있도록 적응된 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털 프린터용 카트리지.
- 제 9 항에 있어서, 상기 블래더들은 상기 컵을 통과하여 폐쇄 단부 근처까지 뻗어 있는 핀들에 상기 블래더들을 매다는 수단을 갖춘 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털프린터용 카트리지.
- 제 10 항에 있어서, 상기 덮개는 상기 노즐들을 대응되는 프린터의 포트들에 맞물리도록 위치시키는 수단을 포함하는 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털 프린터용 카트리지.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 카트리지는 재활용 가능한 재료로 형성된 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털 프린터용 카트리지.
- 제 1 항에 있어서, 상기 제본 수단에 의해 사용되는 재료는 끈이나 스테이플인 것을 특징으로 하는 디지털 프린터용 카트리지.
