根据一个可选实施例,本发明的目的是提供一种含有读缓冲器和写缓冲器的、用于实现显然要求同时读和写的功能的、把数据连续地加入写缓冲器中和从读缓冲器中连续地取出数据的可记录盘状介质设备。配备适当的盘状介质播放器/记录器电路是为了交替地在写时间tW期间把数据从写缓冲器写入盘状介质和在读时间tR期间把数据从盘状介质读到读缓冲器。读时间和写时间相隔跳转时间tJ。配备设备控制器是为了有选择地控制写时间,以使得它约等于2r1r4tJ/(r1r3-r1r4-r2r3),其中各个变量的含义如上所述。根据优选实施例,设备控制器还有选择地控制读时间,以使得它约等于2r2r3tJ/(r1r3-r1r4-r2r3)。
根据本发明的另一方面,把读缓冲器尺寸BRSZ选成约等于(r1-r2)*tR。并且,把写缓冲器尺寸BWSZ选成约等于r4*(tR+2*tJ)。

                        优选实施例详述
                        可记录DVD设备
图1以方块图的形式显示了利用基于在这里讲述的发明方案的可重写盘状介质102,实现基于该发明方案的各种高级操作功能的设备100。在所示的实施例中,可重写盘状态介质102被具体化成可重写DVD。应该注意到,在许多情况下,可重写盘状介质也可以是,例如,硬盘驱动器或磁光盘(MOD)。MOD的例子有小型盘。在许多情况中,这些发明方案可应用于视频或音频,或者视频和音频两者。
设备100能够读写盘状介质,在本例中,可重写DVD102。该设备100包括机械组件104、控制部分120、视频/音频输入处理路径140、和视频/音频输出处理路径170。对于不同部分和路径的大多数方块的定位是不言而喻的,而一些方块的定位只是为了方便,对于理解该设备的操作并不重要。
机械组件104包括使DVD102旋转的电机106和适合于在旋转盘上移动的拾取部件108。为了记录和回放视频和/或音频节目内容,拾取部件上的激光在盘上烧出许多斑点形成螺旋形轨道,或者照射在已经烧成轨道的斑点上。对于理解本发明来说,盘是可记录在单面上的还是可记录在双面上的,或者,在双面记录的情况下,双面记录,或以后从盘中的读取是从盘的同一面开始的,还是从两个面开始的并不重要。拾取器和电机由伺服器110控制。伺服器110还接收从盘102的螺旋形轨道中读取的数据的回放信号,作为第一输入。回放信号也是纠错电路130的输入,可以把纠错电路130当作控制部分的组成部分,或者视频/音频输出处理路径的组成部分。
控制部分120包括中央处理单元(CPU)122和导航数据生成电路126。控制CPU122把第一输入信号供应给导航数据生成电路126,和伺服器110把第二输入信号供应给导航数据生成电路126。伺服器也可以被认为是控制部分的组成部分。导航数据生成电路126把第一输入信号供应给多路复用器(MUX)154,MUX154形成视频/音频输入处理路径140的一部分。
在传统可记录DVD设备中,导航数据生成电路126生成要与视频数据一起存储在盘上的传统导航分组数据。根据这些发明方案,导航数据生成电路126可以供应包含在导航分组中的某些附加信息。附加信息可以用于如后面要作更详细描述的有关所选特技模式回放操作的改进性能。
MUX154的输出是纠错编码电路128的输入。纠错编码电路128的输出是供应给拾取器108的可记录输入信号,通过激光器把它“烧到”盘102的螺旋形轨道上。
控制CPU122最好也可以访问包含在如图1所示的读缓冲器172和写缓冲器152中的数据。CPU122可以删除、修改和重新格式化存储在读缓冲器172和写缓冲器152中的视频数据。最好还配备控制和数据接口,使CPU122能够控制分组视频编码器144和音频编码器148的操作。为了由控制CPU122执行的传统操作,在存储器中配备适当的软件或固件。另外,根据下面要作更详细描述的发明,高级功能的程序例程134为控制CPU122创造了条件。
观众用于启动功能的控制缓冲器132指示当前可用的那些功能,即,播放、记录、倒退、快进、慢放、暂停/播放、和停止。暂停的作用与VCR中的暂停操作相当,例如,人工中断预录节目的回放,或中断观看节目的记录,以使得从记录中删除商业广告。配备独立缓冲器136来接收实现这里讲述的发明方案的命令。
视频/音频输入处理路径140是把传统电视信号,例如,NTSC或PAL,转换成数字化分组数据,例如,MPEG-1或MPEG-2,供设备100数字记录用的信号处理电路。输入路径140包括用于视频输入的NTSC解码器142和视频编码器,例如,MPEG-1或MPEG-2编码器144,并且还包括音频模拟-数据转换器(A/D)146和音频编码器,例如,MPEG-1或MPEG-2编码器148。在多路复用器150中组合数字化信号,将其存储在记录缓冲器152中,直到构造出一个完整的分组为止。当构造出若干组音频和视频数据分组时,在MUX154中将它们与在导航数据生成电路126中生成的适当导航分组组合在一起。然后,把这些分组发送到纠错编码电路128。纠错编码电路128也可以被认为是输入路径140的组成部分。
实际上,DVD的螺旋形轨道上最小可寻址单位是16个扇区的ECC(纠错码)块,其中每个扇区包括2048个字节的用户数据。一个组是若干个ECC块,例如,12个。块的每个组代表大约0.5秒的综合视频和音频节目内容。记录一个组ECC块所需的、沿着螺旋形轨道的线性空间的长度,例如,192(16×12)个扇区在这里被定义为螺旋形轨道的一段。于是,可以明显看出,记录缓冲器只需要大到足以存储一段数据就行了。一段数据可以对应于,例如,大约0.5秒的视频和音频节目内容。
输出处理路径170包括纠错块130和读缓冲器,或输出缓冲器172,从盘上读取的数据在轨道缓冲器172中被组装成分组供进一步处理用。分组由条件访问电路174处理,条件访问电路174控制分组通过多路分用器176,到供视频和音频处理用的各条路径的传播。于是,也可以明显看出,读缓冲器172只需要大到足以存储一段数据就行了。这段数据也对应于,大约0.5秒的视频和音频节目内容。
来自,例如,MPEG-1或MPEG-2编码器146的视频由解码器178解码,并且被编码成传统电视信号,例如,NTSC或PAL信号。来自,例如,MPEG-1或MPEG-2编码器148的音频由电路182解码,并且由音频数字-模拟(D/A)转换器184转换成模拟形式。为了解码包含在盘上的导航分组中的播放控制信息,可以配备PCI缓冲器190和PCI解码器192。请注意,可以认为输出处理路径170包括了纠错电路130。
配备DSI缓冲器186是为了接收包含在导航分组内的盘搜索信息(DSI)。DSI解码器用于解码后面要作更详细描述的、包含在导航分组内的DSI信息。
值得注意的是,本发明可以以硬件、软件、或硬件和软件组合的形式实现。根据本发明的机器可读存储设备可以集成在一个计算机系统,例如,控制CPU122中实现,也可以以分布形式在分散在几个互连计算机系统中的不同单元中实现。适合于实现这里所述的方法的任何类型计算机系统或其它装置都是可以接受的。
具体地说,尽管这里所述的本发明设想出了图1所示的CPU122,但是,硬件和软件的典型组合可以是带有计算机程序的通用计算机系统,当装入和执行计算机程序时,它与图1所示的控制部分120类似地控制计算机系统和DVD记录系统,以使得实现这里所述的方法。也可以把本发明嵌在计算机程序产品中,这种计算机程序产品包括使这里所述的方法得以实现的所有功能,并且,在被装入计算机系统中时,能够实现这些方法。
在当前情况下的计算机程序可以指一系列指令用任何语言,代码或符号表示的任何表达式,其目的是使系统具有立即或在如下过程之一或两者之后执行特定功能的信息处理能力:(a)转换成另一种语言、代码和符号;和(b)以不同内容(material)形式再现。这里公开的发明可以是嵌在可以由编程人员利用商用开发工具针对与如上所述的CPU122兼容的操作系统开发的计算机程序中的方法。
                            DVD介质
为了说明这些发明方案,可以把节目内容记录到可重写DVD上,并且可以从可重写DVD上回放节目内容。图2所示的可重写DVD10适合于用作设备100中的盘102。盘10由扁平圆形塑料薄片12形成。可重写DVD可以由通过粘合层粘贴在一起形成1.2mm厚的盘的两个基片组成。根据这些发明方案,可以在盘中形成中心孔14,以使得图1所示的电机106的夹具可以牢固地夹住盘,并且控制盘的转动。
在轨道上的记录方向通常从螺旋线的半径较小部分开始到螺旋线的半径较大部分,沿着螺旋形轨道16向外。若干组三大点(···)表示图中未示出的轨道部分。因此,认为螺旋形轨道的始端在圆孔14附近,用方块18表示。认为螺旋形轨道的末端在边缘附近,用菱形20表示。本领域的普通技术人员一般都接受上述螺旋线始端和末端的定义。根据这些发明方案的某些高级功能利用了反向记录,也就是说,从螺旋线的半径较大部分开始到螺旋线的半径较小部分。轨道也可以含有在图中未示出的左右摆动的波纹,以使得提供介质类型索引。由于比例上的困难,只有轨道16的某些部分被显示出来,并且,以放大了许多倍的比例显示这些部分。
螺旋线的每个几乎圆形的、辐射状同心部分有时被称为一个轨道,但是,这个术语还没有被普遍接受为具有那种特定的含义。例如,在CD-ROM中,术语“轨道”也用于指螺旋形轨道包含单个歌曲的那个部分,或其它选择,对于DVD来说,术语“轨道”也许会,也许不会得到大家公认。
这里已经描述了本发明与可记录DVD介质相关的部分。但是,本领域的普通技术人员应该认识到,本发明不限于这一点。而是,这里所述的对用于改进特技模式的DVD导航信息的改进可以与任何类型的盘状介质一起使用,包括,但不限于,DVD-R类介质。
           同时编码-解码和暂停-追赶的缓冲器优化
根据这些发明方案管理缓冲器的方法优化了读缓冲器172和写缓冲器152,以避免难以预料的缓冲器上溢和下溢。该方法有助于避免当对于诸如暂停、追赶和立即重放之类的功能所需的同时编码和解码,DVD设备的读和写速度不够快和/或跳转时间不够短时出现的那些问题。追赶模式、跳放模式和平滑-追赶模式或它们的组合都需要这样的缓冲器优化。
图3是可用于描述与读缓冲器172和写缓冲器152有关的发明方案的缓冲器模型图。在图3中,各变量定义如下:
tJ是跳转时间;
tR是读时间;
tW是写时间;
r1是前端读速度;
r2是解码位速率;
r3是前端写速度;
r4是编码位速率;和
n是第n个循环。在图3中,上部图形显示了读缓冲器的操作,和下部图形显示了写缓冲器的操作。
当操作处在暂停、追赶或立即重放模式下时,DVD设备前端传统上经历读和写的交替循环。一个读写循环30从读开始,在第二次跳转之后结束。它包括如图3所示的读、跳转、写和跳转。在一个读写循环中,当前端在时间tRn内从盘中读取数据时,读缓冲器172的数据电平从BRL升高到BRU。在读时间tRn期间,输入编码数据使写缓冲器152的数据电平升高。在前端完成了时间tRn期间的读取之后,它在时间tJ期间跳转到盘上不同的位置,以使得在时间tWn期间进行写操作。如图3所示,跳转时间tJ一开始,读缓冲器电平马上就开始下降。
正好在跳转时间tJ结束的时候,写缓冲器152的数据电平BWU达到它的峰值。为了避免数据丢失,写缓冲器152必须不上溢,因此,要求缓冲器尺寸BWSZ满足BWSZ>BWU。此外,写位速率必须大于最大编码位速率,以使得当前端在时间tWn期间写入时,写缓冲器152的数据电平开始下降。在写时间tWn期间,缓冲器电平BR和BW两者都下降。如果前端耗尽存储在写缓冲器中的数据,写缓冲器152就可能下溢。在写时间tWn之后,前端再次跳转,以使得在读时间tJ期间进行读取。这样就完成了一个读写循环30。
在读写循环30结束时,读缓冲器达到最低电平BRL。对于无缝播放,BRL必须大于0。对于可变位速率操作,因为立即位速率是不断变化的,所以缓冲器增加率(r1-r2,r4)和减少率(r2,r3-r4)可能不是线性的。在不同的读写循环中,tR和tW可以不同,但是,即使在最坏的情况下,它们也不会超过上限。图3所示的模型假设了最坏情况。解码和编码位速率r2,r4被假设为DVD设备100的可能最大值,前端跳转时间被假设为在正常操作下可能出现的最长跳转时间。时间tJ是前端从写跳转到读,或从读跳转到写的总过渡时间。
从图3可看出,在第n个读写循环中,下列方程成立:(a)读缓冲器电平BR

通过上述公式确定的缓冲器尺寸、读时间和写时间的结果值是根据这些发明方案的最佳值。实际上,应该明白,各部件受到的限制、设计上的考虑和其它变量会导致实际值与这些最佳值有所不同。因此,本领域的普通技术人员容易明白,没有必要使用给出的精确值。事实上,优选值可以与通过这里所述的公式给出的、缓冲器尺寸、读时间和写时间的最佳值相差多达20%。
作为第一个例子,假设前端读/写速率是2X,位流的最大位速率是7.0Mb/s(兆位/秒),和跳转时间tJ是0.5s(秒)。那么,

作为第二个例子,假设前端读/写速率是2X/1.5X,位流的最大位速率是6.0Mb/s(兆位/秒),和跳转时间tJ是0.5s(秒)。那么,

图4显示了不同前端速度下的读时间和写时间。图中用曲线显示了在跳转时间tJ=1s的情况下缓冲器尺寸和循环时间随前端读速度的变化。如果跳转时间不是1秒,那么,tR、tW、Br和BW值按比例缩放tJ。缓冲器尺寸的单位是Mb。
图5是前端写速度是1X,跳转时间是0.3s和最大位速率是6.0Mb/s的另一个例子。图中显示了缓冲器尺寸和读和写的循环时间随前端读速度的变化。该曲线显示了读时间、写时间、读缓冲器尺寸、写缓冲器尺寸和前端读速度之间的关系。

Claims (8)

1.一种在含有显然要求同时读和写的功能的、把数据连续地加入写缓冲器中和从读缓冲器中连续地取出数据的盘状介质设备中,优化所述读缓冲器和所述写缓冲器的性能的方法,该方法包括:
交替地在写时间tW期间把数据从所述写缓冲器写入所述盘状介质和在读时间tR期间把数据从所述盘状介质读到所述读缓冲器,所述读时间和所述写时间相隔跳转时间tJ
有选择地控制写时间,以使得它约等于2r1r4tJ/(r1r3-r1r4-r2r3);
其中,r1是前端读速度,r2是解码位速率,r3是所述可记录介质设备的前端写速度,和r4是编码位速率。
2.根据权利要求1所述的方法,还包括有选择地控制所述读时间,以使得它约等于2r2r3tJ/(r1r3-r1r4-r2r3)。

5.一种含有读缓冲器和写缓冲器的、用于实现显然要求同时读和写的功能的、把数据连续地加入所述写缓冲器中和从所述读缓冲器中连续地取出数据的可记录盘状介质设备,包括:
交替地在写时间tW期间把数据从所述写缓冲器写入所述盘状介质和在读时间tR期间把数据从所述盘状介质读到所述读缓冲器的装置,所述读时间和所述写时间相隔跳转时间tJ
设备控制器,用于有选择地控制所述写时间,以使得它约等于2r1r4tJ/(r1r3-r1r4-r2r3);
其中,r1是前端读速度,r2是解码位速率,r3是所述可记录介质设备的前端写速度,和r4是编码位速率。
6.根据权利要求5所述的设备,其中,所述设备控制器有选择地控制所述读时间,以使得它约等于2r2r3tJ/(r1r3-r1r4-r2r3)。
