Description

本発明は、複数の装置間で、制御、監視または診断にかかる情報を送受信するプリンタシステム、プリンタ、外部装置およびデータ送受信方法に関する。
複写機、ファクシミリあるいはプリンタのようなビジネスオフィス機器の創作は、一定の時間内で完成させなければならない各種グループの人々に割り当てられた活動を必要とする。その上、それらの装置が一旦顧客に届くと、それは現場のサービス・グループの人々によって補修維持されなければならない。従って、異なったグループの人々が共に働いてその製品を開発し、補修維持している。
マイクロプロセッサをビジネス機器に使用する最近の傾向はそれらの機器の性能を高めた。たとえば、高速複写機は一般にマイクロプロセッサによって制御される多くのボタンおよびディスプレイからなる操作パネルを含み、種々のタスクを実行する１個以上のマイクロプロセッサを装備している。
しかしながら、マイクロプロセッサの使用の増加に伴い、ソフトウエア技術者の不足が深刻になっている。Fathi and Armstrorng (1985年) はハードウエアとソフトウエア間の開発コスト比は１：5.3 であることを示している。特に複写機のような独立型の装置を開発する最近の慣用手段は異なるモデル間でのソフトウエアの再利用性を無視する傾向がある。たとえば、複写機の操作パネルは主制御装置のソフトウエアを開発する技術者によってプログラムを作成される。そのソフトウエアは特定のモデルと密接に結びついて、一般に他の複写機モデルに使用することはできない。この傾向が変わらない限り、異なるグループによる各種のモデルの開発は容易に完成できない。さらに、ソフトウエア技術者の不足は、製品の開発および改良の数を制限する傾向にある。
上記の如き問題点は、モデルおよび製品間の装置の各種モジュールを通信および制御する手段および対応する方法を提供することによって解決できると共に、製品の開発サイクルを短くすることができる。これらによって、幾つかのグループに対し開発せんとする目標装置を待つのではなくて現在の装置を使用してモジュールの開発を開始させることができる。加えて、現場のサービス組織は各種の製品に対する異なったシステムを持つのではなく、一つの知的システムに対する診断およびメンテナンス行為を維持することができる。
従って、本発明の目的は、単数あるいは複数の外部装置を目標装置の状態にアクセスさせ、該目標装置と通信し、該目標装置を制御する改善された手段および方法を提供することである。
本発明は、上記の目的を達成するために、入力を行う入力手段並びに表示を行う表示手段を有する外部装置と、前記外部装置と所定の通信手段により接続されたプリンタとを有するプリンタシステムにおいて、前記プリンタは、識別情報を記憶する識別情報記憶手段と、前記識別情報記憶手段に記憶された識別情報を符号化した符号化データを前記外部装置に送信する識別情報送信手段と、プリンタの機械的状態によって変わる動的状態データを記憶する動的状態データ記憶手段と、前記識別情報送信手段による前記識別情報の前記符号化データの送信後であって、送信した前記識別情報の符号化データに基づく前記外部装置における前記プリンタの識別の確認後、前記動的状態データ記憶手段に記憶された前記動的状態データを符号化した符号化データを前記外部装置に送信する動的状態データ送信手段と、前記外部装置は、前記識別情報の前記符号化データを前記プリンタから受信する識別情報受信手段と、前記識別情報受信手段による前記識別情報の前記符号化データの受信後であって、受信した前記識別情報に基づいた前記プリンタの識別の確認後、前記動的状態データの前記符号化データを前記プリンタから受信する動的状態データ受信手段と、を備えたことを特徴とする。
また、本発明は、外部装置と所定の通信手段により接続されたプリンタにおいて、識別情報を記憶する識別情報記憶手段と、前記識別情報記憶手段に記憶された識別情報を符号化した符号化データを前記外部装置に送信する識別情報送信手段と、プリンタの機械的状態によって変わる動的状態データを記憶する動的状態データ記憶手段と、前記識別情報送信手段による前記識別情報の前記符号化データの送信後であって、送信した前記識別情報の符号化データに基づく前記外部装置における前記プリンタの識別の確認後、前記動的状態データ記憶手段に記憶された前記動的状態データを符号化した符号化データを前記外部装置に送信する動的状態データ送信手段と、を備えたことを特徴とする。
また、本発明は、入力を行う入力手段並びに表示を行う表示手段を有し、プリンタと所定の通信手段により接続された外部装置において、前記プリンタの識別情報を符号化した符号化データを前記プリンタから受信する識別情報受信手段と、前記識別情報受信手段による前記識別情報の前記符号化データの受信後であって、受信した前記識別情報の前記符号化データに基づいた前記プリンタの識別の確認後、プリンタの機械的状態によって変わる動的状態データを符号化した符号化データを前記プリンタから受信する動的状態データ受信手段と、を備えたことを特徴とする。
また、本発明は、入力を行う入力手段並びに表示を行う表示手段を有する外部装置と、前記外部装置と所定の通信手段により接続され前記外部装置からデータを受信するプリンタとの間でデータの送受信を行うデータ送受信方法において、前記プリンタの識別情報記憶手段に記憶された識別情報を符号化した符号化データを前記外部装置に送信する識別情報送信ステップと、前記識別情報送信ステップによる前記識別情報の前記符号化データの送信後であって、送信した前記識別情報の符号化データに基づく前記外部装置における前記プリンタの識別の確認後、前記動的状態データ記憶手段に記憶された前記動的状態データを符号化した符号化データを前記外部装置に送信する動的状態データ送信手段と動的状態データ記憶手段に記憶された、プリンタの機械的状態によって変わる動的状態データを符号化した符号化データを前記外部装置に送信する動的状態データ送信ステップと、前記識別情報の前記符号化データを前記プリンタから受信する識別情報受信ステップと、前記識別情報受信ステップによる前記識別情報の前記符号化データの受信後であって、受信した前記識別情報の前記符号化データに基づいた前記プリンタの識別の確認後、前記動的状態データを符号化した符号化データを前記プリンタから受信する動的状態データ受信ステップと、を含むことを特徴とする。
添付図面と共に本発明の好適な実施例を以下詳細に説明する。本発明を好適実施例と共に説明するが、本発明はその実施例に限定されず、特許請求の範囲に規定されている本発明の範囲および意図の範囲内で各種の変化、改良および変更を包含する。
図１は、複写機１０、操作パネル２０および遠隔診断ステーション３０を含む本発明の好適実施例を示す。しかしながら、本発明は複写機に限定されず、以下に説明する手段を有するプリンタあるいはファクシミリのような他のビジネス機器にも適用できる。
以下の説明において、図１に示す目標装置は複写機１０である。目標装置１０はその寿命の間変わらない静的状態データ１０７、たとえばモデル番号、シリアル番号、モデル特性等を記憶する手段を含む。また、目標装置１０はＲＯＭバージョン、オプション構成のような装置の寿命の間めったに変わらない半静的状態データ１０６を記憶する手段も含む。
さらに、目標装置は、トレーにおける記録紙の状態、オイル、トナー、プリント数、受光素子の感度、記録紙の通路および位置等のような装置の機械的状態によって変わる動的状態データ１０５を記憶する手段を有する。装置の動的状態を記憶するために、目標装置１０は該装置１０の状態を監視する監視プロセス１０４を含む。システム全体の動作はシステム制御プロセス１０２によって統制動作される。
電源を入れると、システム制御プロセス１０２は目標装置１０を準備させるのみならず、最初に物理的接続をチェックした後、以下に説明する手段で通信を確立することによって附属装置との通信を確立する。
複写機１０は、使用者が操作パネル２０を介して幾つかの機能を特定するまでアイドル状態にある。しかしながら、アイドル時間の間、システム制御プロセス１０２によってその状態を連続的に監視する。異常状態が検出されると、システム制御プロセス１０２はデータを通信プロセス１０１に送り、そのデータをコード化してコード化データを通信媒体ライン１２を介して操作パネル２０に送る。通信プロセス２０１は確認応答信号を送り、データを解読してそれをシステム制御プロセス２０２へ送る。システム制御プロセス２０２は複写機１０の状態をディスプレイプロセス２０４を介して通知する。
遠隔診断ステーションの通信ライン１３が接続されると、システム制御プロセス１０２はメッセージを送り、遠隔診断ステーション３０に注意を与えて遠隔診断ステーション３０に異常状態を知らせる。
入力プロセス２０３は使用者からの入力を受けてそれをシステム制御プロセス２０２へ送り、該システム制御プロセスは、つぎにその入力をディスプレイプロセス２０４を介してそのまま戻す（エコー・バック）ので、使用者は彼／彼女（使用者）の入力をフィードバックして得ることができる。使用者からのデータは、つぎに通信プロセス２０１においてコード化される。このコード化されたデータは、つぎにライン１２を介して複写機へ送られる。
通信プロセス１０１は、つぎに通信プロセス２０１へ確認応答信号を送り、その受けたデータを解読し、解読したデータをシステム制御プロセス１０２へ送る。実際の複写処理中、シーケンスプロセス１０３は時限要求に従って事象を配列する。遠隔診断ステーション３０はライン１３を介して複写機に接続される。そのライン１３は電話線、ＲＳ２３２ラインあるいはその他の適当な通信手段とすることができる。通信プロセス３０１は装置１０の通信プロセス１０１および操作パネル２０の通信プロセス２０１と同様に操作する。
診断プロセス３０２は、受け取る回答とデータベース３０３に記憶されているデータに基づいて複写機１０と対話的に交信できるインテリジェント（知能）プロセスである。
図２は本発明を実行するために利用されるハードウェアの特徴を示す。装置１０、２０および３０は全てバス１００１、２００１および３００１を有し、それらは各々中央処理装置１１１、２１１および３１１に接続している。モデルに依存して、バスはさらに多くのユニットを有する。センサユニット１１３は、記録紙トレー、電圧および紙の通路のような動的データとして記憶されなければならない目標装置の機能的状態を検出する。
記憶装置１１２は静的状態のデータ１０７を（ＲＯＭのような）固定記憶として保持する。記憶装置１１５は半静的状態のデータ１０６をＥＥＰＲＯＭのような電力を必要としない交換可能な記憶装置あるいは低電力を使用しバッテリーによってサポートできる（ＣＭＯＳＲＡＭのような）交換可能な記憶装置に記憶する。記憶装置１１６は動的状態のデータ１０５を電力を必要としないあるいは低電力を使用したバッテリーによってサポートできる交換可能な記憶装置に記憶する。
ディスプレイおよび入力ユニット２１３は入力キーおよびライトとＬＣＤ（液晶表示装置）のようなディスプレイを制御する。ディスクユニット３１３はデータベースを保持する。通信ライン１３が規則的に接続されなかったり、診断が必要なときのみ接続する場合には、インターフェースユニット１１４は、物理的接続の機械的手段に起因する中断のようなことを、ライン１３が接続されている中央処理装置１１１に知らせる手段を有する。
図３は本発明による符号化の好適実施例を示す。しかしながら、ＡＳＮ．１（１９８７）のような他のエンコーディング（符号化）も使用することができる。図３における符号化スキーマはタイプ、長さおよび値（ＴＬＶ）符号化の送信からなる。タイプのビット７は０にセットされるが、長さのビット７は１にセットされる。値はいずれかのビットの組合せをとることができる。符号化は２進法であってデータ通信の長さを節約する。情報フィールドを組み合わせることによって、１２０タイプ（４つの情報×３０タイプ）まで定義することができる。タイプを拡張する一つの方法は全ての低い５ビットを１にセットすることである。この拡張のターミネータは００Ｈの二つのバイトである。情報フィールドにおいて複合を使用することにより、一つ以上の情報を以下のように送ることができる。

図４は電源を入れた後、図１あるいは図２の装置１０と操作パネル２０間の通信の確立を示す。装置１０と操作パネル２０は共にパワーオン・リセット・シーケンスで通じる。ステップ１において、操作パネル２０はリセットを終了し、その割り当てられた値を装置１０へ送る。しかしながら、装置１０はリセットで忙しく、インターフェースユニット１１４を介してデータを入手できない。ステップ２において、装置１０は準備完了し割り当てられた値を操作パネル２０へ送る。ステップ３はパネル２０から装置１０への確認を示す。好適実施例において、受信側は受信したタイプの確認を戻さなければならない。
図４のステップ４は最初の識別が中断して別の試みを行うべきであることを示す。ステップ５は接続が確立されたことを示す。ステップ６は特定されたコピー枚数の例を示す。ステップ７における確認はコピー枚数（ここでは、３コピー）を表す。ステップ８は複写処理シーケンスの開始を示し、ステップ９は対応する確認を示す。ステップ１０は記録紙ジャムの通信を示し、ステップ１１はその記録紙ジャムの対応する確認を示す。
図５は図１と図２の遠隔診断ステーション３０と複写機１０間の接続の確立過程を示す。図５はライン４および６で複合情報フィールドの使用を示す。この複合が使用されないと、ライン１０〜１２のような通信が必要である。
図５のステップ１は診断の識別を示し、ステップ２はその識別の確認を示す。ステップ３は識別の問合せを示し、ステップ４は複合確認を示す。ステップ５はモデルの識別について問合せをし、ステップ６は対応する確認である。ステップ７はパラメータの報告を質問し、説明としてステップ８はコマンドが理解されないことを示す。ステップ９はアドレスの報告を示し、ステップ１０、１１および１２は各々確認、報告および確認を示す。
図６は、本発明の別の実施例を示し、操作パネル１が装置のモデル１、モデル２およびモデル３として識別される異なるタイプの装置モデルを制御する例を示す。
図７は、操作パネル１、２あるいは３のような異なる操作パネルが装置モデル１として識別される同一のモデルを制御できる本発明の実施例を示す。
最後に、図８は装置モデル１、２および３として識別される異なる装置モデルを制御する操作パネル１を示す。図８の操作パネル１は適当なバス相互接続と適当な多重性能によってモデル１、２あるいは３を制御することができる。
要約すると、本発明は以下の手段を使用することによってオフィス設備機器の制御、監視および該装置との通信をする装置および対応する方法を提供するものである。すなわち、
システム（システム制御プロセス）の各種動作を制御する手段と、
静的データ（静的状態データ）を記憶する手段と、
半静的データ（半静的状態データ）を記憶する手段と、
動的データ（動的状態データ）を記憶する手段と、
装置の状態を監視する手段（監視プロセス）と、
監視手段から装置の状態を得て、その状態を動的データの記憶装置に記憶する手段（監視プロセス→システム制御プロセス→動的状態のデータ）と、
ＲＳ２３２やモデム／電話のような他の装置と通信する手段（通信プロセス）と、
他の装置へそれ自体を識別する手段（通信プロセス）と、
コマンドと回答のようなデータを交換する手段（通信プロセス）と、
コマンドに基づいて動作をする手段（システム制御プロセス）と、
動作の結果を送る手段（システム制御プロセス→通信プロセス）と、
新しい通信ラインが確立されるとき通知する手段（通信プロセス→システム制御プロセス：インターフェース装置−中断→ＣＰＵ）である。
以上、本発明にかかる好適な実施例を説明するために記載した。これは、本発明を開示した厳密な形態に限定しようとするものではなくて、前記の教示から多くの改良および変化が可能である。本発明の原理およびその応用を説明するために好適実施例を選んで記載した。これによって当業者は本発明および各種の実施態様を特定の用途に適した各種の改良と共に利用できる。本発明の範囲は特許請求の範囲のみによって定義されるものである。

Claims (4)

  1. 入力を行う入力手段並びに表示を行う表示手段を有する外部装置と、前記外部装置と所定の通信手段により接続されたプリンタとを有するプリンタシステムにおいて、
    前記プリンタは、
    識別情報を記憶する識別情報記憶手段と、
    前記識別情報記憶手段に記憶された識別情報を符号化した符号化データを前記外部装置に送信する識別情報送信手段と、
    プリンタの機械的状態によって変わる動的状態データを記憶する動的状態データ記憶手段と、
    前記識別情報送信手段による前記識別情報の前記符号化データの送信後であって、送信した前記識別情報の符号化データに基づく前記外部装置における前記プリンタの識別の確認後、前記動的状態データ記憶手段に記憶された前記動的状態データを符号化した符号化データを前記外部装置に送信する動的状態データ送信手段と、
    前記外部装置は、
    前記識別情報の前記符号化データを前記プリンタから受信する識別情報受信手段と、
    前記識別情報受信手段による前記識別情報の前記符号化データの受信後であって、受信した前記識別情報に基づいた前記プリンタの識別の確認後、前記動的状態データの前記符号化データを前記プリンタから受信する動的状態データ受信手段と、
    を備えたことを特徴とするプリンタシステム。
  2. 外部装置と所定の通信手段により接続されたプリンタにおいて、
    識別情報を記憶する識別情報記憶手段と、
    前記識別情報記憶手段に記憶された識別情報を符号化した符号化データを前記外部装置に送信する識別情報送信手段と、
    プリンタの機械的状態によって変わる動的状態データを記憶する動的状態データ記憶手段と、
    前記識別情報送信手段による前記識別情報の前記符号化データの送信後であって、送信した前記識別情報の符号化データに基づく前記外部装置における前記プリンタの識別の確認後、前記動的状態データ記憶手段に記憶された前記動的状態データを符号化した符号化データを前記外部装置に送信する動的状態データ送信手段と、
    を備えたことを特徴とするプリンタ。
  3. 入力を行う入力手段並びに表示を行う表示手段を有し、プリンタと所定の通信手段により接続された外部装置において、
    前記プリンタの識別情報を符号化した符号化データを前記プリンタから受信する識別情報受信手段と、
    前記識別情報受信手段による前記識別情報の前記符号化データの受信後であって、受信した前記識別情報の前記符号化データに基づいた前記プリンタの識別の確認後、プリンタの機械的状態によって変わる動的状態データを符号化した符号化データを前記プリンタから受信する動的状態データ受信手段と、
    を備えたことを特徴とする外部装置。
  4. 入力を行う入力手段並びに表示を行う表示手段を有する外部装置と、前記外部装置と所定の通信手段により接続され前記外部装置からデータを受信するプリンタとの間でデータの送受信を行うデータ送受信方法において、
    前記プリンタの識別情報記憶手段に記憶された識別情報を符号化した符号化データを前記外部装置に送信する識別情報送信ステップと、
    前記識別情報送信ステップによる前記識別情報の前記符号化データの送信後であって、送信した前記識別情報の符号化データに基づく前記外部装置における前記プリンタの識別の確認後、前記動的状態データ記憶手段に記憶された前記動的状態データを符号化した符号化データを前記外部装置に送信する動的状態データ送信手段と動的状態データ記憶手段に記憶された、プリンタの機械的状態によって変わる動的状態データを符号化した符号化データを前記外部装置に送信する動的状態データ送信ステップと、
    前記識別情報の前記符号化データを前記プリンタから受信する識別情報受信ステップと、
    前記識別情報受信ステップによる前記識別情報の前記符号化データの受信後であって、受信した前記識別情報の前記符号化データに基づいた前記プリンタの識別の確認後、前記動的状態データを符号化した符号化データを前記プリンタから受信する動的状態データ受信ステップと、
    を含むことを特徴とするデータ送受信方法。
