【発明の詳細な説明】
【０００１】
【発明の属する技術分野】本発明は、複数の装置間で、
制御、監視または診断にかかる情報を送受信するプリン
タシステム、プリンタおよび外部装置に関する。

【従来の技術】複写機、ファクシミリあるいはプリンタ
のようなビジネスオフィス機器の創作は、一定の時間内
で完成させなければならない各種グループの人々に割り
当てられた活動を必要とする。その上、それらの装置が
一旦顧客に届くと、それは現場のサービス・グループの
人々によって補修維持されなければならない。従って、
異なったグループの人々が共に働いてその製品を開発
し、補修維持している。
【０００３】マイクロプロセッサをビジネス機器に使用
する最近の傾向はそれらの機器の性能を高めた。たとえ
ば、高速複写機は一般にマイクロプロセッサによって制
御される多くのボタンおよびディスプレイからなる操作
パネルを含み、種々のタスクを実行する１個以上のマイ
クロプロセッサを装備している。

【発明が解消しようとする課題】しかしながら、マイク
ロプロセッサの使用の増加に伴い、ソフトウエア技術者
の不足が深刻になっている。Fathi and Armstrorng (19
85年) はハードウエアとソフトウエア間の開発コスト比
は１：5.3 であることを示している。特に複写機のよう
な独立型の装置を開発する最近の慣用手段は異なるモデ
ル間でのソフトウエアの再利用性を無視する傾向があ
る。たとえば、複写機の操作パネルは主制御装置のソフ
トウエアを開発する技術者によってプログラムを作成さ
れる。そのフソトウエアは特定のモデルと密接に結びつ
いて、一般に他の複写機モデルに使用することはできな
い。この傾向が変わらない限り、異なるグループによる
各種のモデルの開発は容易に完成できない。さらに、ソ
フトウエア技術者の不足は、製品の開発および改良の数
を制限する傾向にある。
【０００５】上記の如き問題点は、モデルおよび製品間
の装置の各種モジュールを通信および制御する手段およ
び対応する方法を提供することによって解決できると共
に、製品の開発サイクルを短くすることができる。これ
らによって、幾つかのグループに対し開発せんとする目
標装置を待つのではなくて現在の装置を使用してモジュ
ールの開発を開始させることができる。加えて、現場の
サービス組織は各種の製品に対する異なったシステムを
持つのではなく、一つの知的システムに対する診断およ
びメンテナンス行為を維持することができる。
【０００６】従って、本発明の目的は、単数あるいは複
数の外部装置を目標装置の状態にアクセスさせ、該目標
装置と通信し、該目標装置を制御する改善された手段お
よび方法を提供することである。

【課題を解決するための手段】本発明は、上記の目的を
達成するために、入力をおこなう入力手段並びに表示を
おこなう表示手段を有する外部装置と、前記外部装置と
所定の通信手段により接続され該外部装置からデータを
受信するプリンタとを有するプリンタシステムにおい
て、前記プリンタは、その寿命の間変わらない識別情報
などの静的状態データを記憶する静的状態データ記憶手
段と、前記静的状態データ記憶手段に記憶した静的状態
データを送信するデータ送信手段と、を備え、前記外部
装置は、前記プリンタの電源オンを検出して、プリンタ
に記憶されているプリンタの寿命の間変わらない識別情
報などの静的状態データをプリンタから受信する静的状
態データ受信手段を備えたことを特徴とする。

間変わらない識別情報などの静的状態データを記憶する
とともに、該記憶した静的状態データを外部装置に対し
て送信し、外部装置は、プリンタの電源オンを検出し
て、プリンタに記憶されているプリンタの寿命の間変わ
らない識別情報などの静的状態データをプリンタから受
信することとしたので、外部装置が確実かつ自動的にプ
リンタを識別することができる。

並びに表示をおこなう表示手段を有する外部装置と所定
の通信手段により接続され該外部装置からデータを受信
するプリンタにおいて、プリンタの寿命の間変わらない

タ記憶手段と、プリンタの電源オンの前記外部装置によ
る検出によって要求される前記外部装置からの静的状態
データ送信要求に対して、静的状態データを前記外部装
置に対して送信する静的状態データ送信手段と、を備え
たことを特徴とする。

おき、プリンタの電源オンの前記外部装置による検出に
よって要求される前記外部装置からの静的状態データ送
信要求に対して、この静的状態データを外部装置に対し
て送信することとしたので、外部装置がプリンタを確実
かつ自動的に識別することができる。

タ通信手段を介して前記プリンタから受信する静的状態
データ受信手段と、を備えたことを特徴とする。

【発明の実施の形態】添付図面と共に本発明の好適な実
施例を以下詳細に説明する。本発明を好適実施例と共に
説明するが、本発明はその実施例に限定されず、特許請
求の範囲に規定されている本発明の範囲および意図の範
囲内で各種の変化、改良および変更を包含する。

を示す。しかしながら、本発明は複写機に限定されず、
以下に説明する手段を有するプリンタあるいはファクシ

る。図３における符号化スキーマはタイプ、長さおよび

は０にセットされるが、長さのビット７は１にセットさ
れる。値はいずれかのビットの組合せをとることができ
る。符号化は２進法であってデータ通信の長さを節約す
る。情報フィールドを組み合わせることによって、１２
０タイプ（４つの情報×３０タイプ）まで定義すること
ができる。タイプを拡張する一つの方法は全ての低い５
ビットを１にセットすることである。この拡張のターミ
ネータは００Ｈの二つのバイトである。情報フィールド
において複合を使用することにより、一つ以上の情報を

枚数（ここでは、３コピー）を表す。ステップ８は複写
処理シーケンスの開始を示し、ステップ９は対応する確
認を示す。ステップ１０は記録紙ジャムの通信を示し、
ステップ工程１１はその記録紙ジャムの対応する確認を
示す。

３０と複写機１０間の接続の確立過程を示す。図５はラ
イン４および６で複合情報フィールドの使用を示す。こ
の複合が使用されないと、ライン１０〜１２のような通
信が必要である。

問し、説明としてステップ８はコマンドが理解されない
ことを示す。ステップ９はアドレスの報告を示し、ステ
ップ１０、１１および１２は各々確認、報告および確認
を示す。

パネル１が装置のモデル１、モデル２およびモデル３と
して識別される異なるタイプの装置モデルを制御する例

同一のモデルを制御できる本発明の実施例を示す。

ル１を示す。図８の操作パネル１は適当なバス相互接続
と適当な多重性能によってモデル１、２あるいは３を制
御することができる。

装置との通信をする装置および対応する方法を提供する

態データ）を記憶する手段と、動的データ（動的状態デ
ータ）を記憶する手段と、装置の状態を監視する手段
（監視プロセス）と、監視手段から装置の状態を得て、
その状態を動的データの記憶装置に記憶する手段（監視
プロセス→システム制御プロセス→動的状態のデータ）
と、ＲＳ２３２やモデム／電話のような他の装置と通信
する手段（通信プロセス）と、他の装置へそれ自体を識
別する手段（通信プロセス）と、コマンドと回答のよう
なデータを交換する手段（通信プロセス）と、コマンド
に基づいて動作をする手段（システム制御プロセス）
と、動作の結果を送る手段（システム制御プロセス→通
信プロセス）と、新しい通信ラインが確立されるとき通
知する手段（通信プロセス→システム制御プロセス：イ
ンターフェース装置−中断→ＣＰＵ）である。
【００３７】以上、本発明にかかる好適な実施例を説明
するために記載した。これは、本発明を開示した厳密な
形態に限定しようとするものではなくて、前記の教示か
ら多くの改良および変化が可能である。本発明の原理お
よびその応用を説明するために好適実施例を選んで記載
した。これによって当業者は本発明および各種の実施態
様を特定の用途に適した各種の改良と共に利用できる。
本発明の範囲は特許請求の範囲のみによって定義される
ものである。

【発明の効果】以上説明した通り、本発明によれば、プ
リンタが、その寿命の間変わらない識別情報などの静的
状態データを記憶するとともに、該記憶した静的状態デ
ータを外部装置に対して送信し、プリンタの電源オンを
検出して、プリンタに記憶されているプリンタの寿命の
間変わらない識別情報などの静的状態データを外部装置
がプリンタから受信するよう構成したので、外部装置が
確実かつ自動的にプリンタを識別することが可能なプリ
ンタシステムが得られるという効果を奏する。
【００３９】また、本発明によれば、プリンタの寿命の
間変わらない識別情報などの静的状態データを記憶して
おき、プリンタの電源オンの前記外部装置による検出に
よって要求される前記外部装置からの静的状態データ送
信要求に対して、静的状態データを前記外部装置に対し
て送信するよう構成したので、外部装置がプリンタを確
実かつ自動的に識別することが可能なプリンタが得られ
るという効果を奏する。
【００４０】また、本発明によれば、プリンタの電源オ
ンを検出して、プリンタに記憶されているプリンタの寿
命の間変わらない識別情報などの静的状態データをプリ
ンタから受信することとしたので、プリンタが送信した
静的状態データを受信することが可能な外部装置が得ら
れるという効果を奏する。

Claims (3)

    【特許請求の範囲】
  1. 【請求項１】 入力をおこなう入力手段並びに表示をお
    こなう表示手段を有する外部装置と、前記外部装置と所
    定の通信手段により接続され該外部装置からデータを受
    信するプリンタとを有するプリンタシステムにおいて、 前記プリンタは、 その寿命の間変わらない識別情報などの静的状態データ
    を記憶する静的状態データ記憶手段と、 前記静的状態データ記憶手段に記憶した静的状態データ
    を送信するデータ送信手段と、 を備え、 前記外部装置は、前記プリンタの電源オンを検出して、
    プリンタに記憶されているプリンタの寿命の間変わらな
    い識別情報などの静的状態データをプリンタから受信す
    る静的状態データ受信手段を備えたことを特徴とするプ
    リンタシステム。
  2. 【請求項２】 入力をおこなう入力手段並びに表示をお
    こなう表示手段を有する外部装置と所定の通信手段によ
    り接続され該外部装置からデータを受信するプリンタに
    おいて、 プリンタの寿命の間変わらない識別情報などの静的状態
    データを記憶する静的状態データ記憶手段と、 プリンタの電源オンの前記外部装置による検出によって
    要求される前記外部装置からの静的状態データ送信要求
    に対して、静的状態データを前記外部装置に対して送信
    する静的状態データ送信手段と、 を備えたことを特徴とするプリンタ。
  3. 【請求項３】 入力をおこなう入力手段並びに表示をお
    こなう表示手段を有する外部装置において、 当該外部装置に接続されたプリンタとデータ通信をおこ
    なうデータ通信手段と、 前記プリンタの電源オンを検出して、プリンタに記憶さ
    れているプリンタの寿命の間変わらない識別情報などの
    静的状態データを前記データ通信手段を介して前記プリ
    ンタから受信する静的状態データ受信手段と、 を備えたことを特徴とする外部装置。
