TGA熱分析では、実験はすべてTA Q50 TGAを用いて行った。TGAは熱重量分析を表す。これは、非常に高感度の計器であり、サンプルが加熱されるにつれてどれだけ重量が変化するかを測定する。この実験では、サンプルを600℃まで10℃/分の速度で500℃まで窒素中で加熱した。より多くの材料が燃焼するのを補助するため、500℃で計器を空気に切り替えた。次いで、収集されたデータを温度に対して重量パーセントとしてプロットし、5%質量減損時の温度を記録した。この温度を分解温度(Td5%)とみなす。
本明細書に開示した例示的実施形態は、重合性の単官能性および/または多官能性のモノマー、オリゴマーおよびポリマーを主体とする組成物、物品、および新規な複合材およびラミネートの作製方法、ならびに本明細書に示した他の組成物、ならびにこの用途に関するものである。
種々の概念構想実証を複合材の分野で試験した。例示的実施形態を以下に示す。
試験の際に使用した繊維ガラス材は2.5オンスの繊維ガラスクロスとした。最終複合材生成物がこの繊維ガラスクロス材の複合材マットになることを意図した。
3mL容スポイトを使用し、繊維ガラスシートの半分を開始剤溶液で飽和させ、繊維ガラスシートの残りの半分をDEMMで飽和させた。次いで、この繊維ガラスマット複合材を、繊維ガラス材の個々の正方形を積層することにより準備した。積層の順序は系が交互に含まれるようにし、この場合、繊維ガラス材のサンドイッチ構造を、開始剤で飽和させた繊維ガラスの層、続いてDEMMで飽和させた層、この次に続いて開始剤で飽和させた層、・・・のようにして構成した。例示的な一実施形態では、合計8枚の繊維ガラスシートを使用した。すべての層を所定の位置に配置した後、ゴムローラーを用いて複合材サンドイッチを圧縮した。
硬化方法中、複合材生成物から少量の発熱が示された。硬化速度は非常に急速であり、取り扱いが可能な固形の複合材構造体がおおよそ2分以内に作製された。初期硬化後、サンプルを24時間状態調節し、剛性の繊維ガラス複合材構造体を得た。この複合材構造体は研究室の作業台で、加熱または相当な量の加圧なしで形成されたことに注目されたい。繊維ガラス層またはガラス繊維の一部または全部において活性化表面をもたらす択一的な方法も示され得る。例えば、繊維ガラスを、別個の操作にて開始剤または開始剤前駆体とともにサイジングまたは別の方法で前処理し、該重合性物と接触させて「オンデマンド式」重合を可能にすることもできる。このおよび他の例示的実施形態では、対象となるさらなる例示的開始剤としては、水酸化ナトリウム、水酸化カリウム、ソルビン酸カリウム、酢酸ナトリウムおよびターシャリーブチルアンモニウムフルオリドが挙げられる。
カーボン繊維複合材を、繊維ガラス複合材に関して上記に示したものと同様の様式で作製した。試験の際に使用したカーボン繊維材は織布のカーボン繊維クロスとした。最終複合材生成物がこのカーボン繊維クロス材の複合材マットになることを意図した。
カーボン繊維クロスをまず切断し、2インチ×2インチのサイズの正方形に準備した。これらの層を、結合の準備のために個々に研究室の作業台の上に並べた。接着剤結合に使用した開始剤は、3重量%の1,8−ジアザビシクロウンデカ−7−エン(DBU)を含有するアセトン溶液とした。複合材の作製に使用した重合性組成物は99%純粋なジエチルメチレンマロネート(DEMM)とした。
硬化方法中、複合材生成物から少量の発熱が示された。硬化速度は非常に急速であり、取り扱いが可能な複合材構造体がおおよそ2分以内に作製された。初期硬化後、サンプルを24時間状態調節し、剛性のカーボン繊維複合材を得た。
木質複合材物品を、以下の方法論に従って作製した。最終複合材生成物が、ポリマーマトリックス中に担持された木質粒子を有する3次元複合材構造体になることを意図した。木質複合材に使用した材料は、おがくずよりもわずかに大きい粘稠度を有する流動性の顆粒状木製材とした。
木材チップを、3重量%のDBUを含有するアセトン溶液を入れたバイアルに、該材料が開始剤溶液で一様に飽和され得るように入れた。次いで、この木材チップをアルミニウム秤量皿に入れ、一様な層が形成されるように広げた。3mL容スポイトを使用し、次いでDEMMを、木材チップが皿の中で充分に飽和されるように試みながら木材チップに添加した。
DEMMをアルミニウム皿に添加すると、プライマーにより非常に急速な反応が開始され、発煙および強い発熱が生じた。硬化は非常に急速に起こり、得られる生成物は2分以内に取り扱いが可能となる。初期硬化後、サンプルを24時間状態調節し、剛性の木質粒状複合材を得た。
純粋な酸化アルミニウムをDEMMと組み合わせて使用し、複合材料を形成した。
粉末形態の酸化アルミニウムをアルミニウム秤量皿に入れ、均一な層が形成されるように広げた。次いで、3mL容スポイトを使用し、DEMMを粉末材料が飽和されるように試みながらアルミニウム皿に添加した。
酸化アルミニウム/DEMMは、プライマーまたは開始剤の添加の使用は全くなしで硬化し、充分に硬化した複合材が15分以内に得られ、固形で剛性で耐衝撃性の白色ディスクが得られた。
この実験の目的は、およそ60重量%のアルミナ(前硬化重量)を用いた多官能性ブレンド(500ppmのMSAで過剰安定化)の重合性組成物を硬化させることにより複合材を形成することであった。
この実験の目的は、およそ40重量%のアルミナ、20重量%のシリカ(前硬化重量)を使用し、さらなる安定剤の使用はなしの多官能性ブレンドの重合性組成物を硬化させることにより複合材を形成することであった。
この実験の目的は、およそ60%の多官能性ブレンドと40%のおがくずの重合性組成物を硬化させることにより複合材を形成することであった。
この実験の目的は、およそ33%のDEMMと67%の酸洗処理砂の重合性組成物を硬化させることにより複合材を形成することであった。
この実験の目的は、およそ88.3%のDEMMと11.7%のABS削りくずの重合性組成物を硬化させることにより複合材を形成すること、およびDEMMによりさらなる活性剤なしで重合し得るかどうかを調べることであった。
この実験の目的は、60%のアルミナと40%のDEMMを用いて複合材を作製し、次いで、アルミナ/多官能性ブレンドを用いて作製した同様の複合材と比較することであった。
この実験の目的は、松のかんなくず(25%)とDEMM(75%)を用いて複合材を作製することであった。
この実験の目的は、木粉(31%)とDEMM(69%)を用いて複合材を作製することであった。

カーボン繊維クロス(#5374)を正方形の小片に切断し、1%のLICA(Ken−React(登録商標)LICA(登録商標)44 Titanate Coupling Agent)含有エタノール溶液で飽和させ、次いで、121℃の炉内に10分間入れた。クロスを冷却し、次いで、DEMM(95%純度)で飽和させた。DEMMは8時間以内に充分硬化した。

ポリプロピレンフェルト、1/16インチ厚(Buffalo Felt Products Corp,MS−29710790)を正方形の小片に切断し、0.1%の1,1,3,3テトラメチルグアニジン(TMG)含有エタノールで飽和させ、次いで、121℃の炉内に10分間入れた。このフェルトを冷却し、次いで、DEMM(95%純度)で飽和させた。DEMMは周囲条件下では硬化しなかった。
手順:
シリカ(Cabot TS−720(ロット番号3273445))をアルミニウムパンに入れ、0.25%TMG溶液で飽和させ、次いで、121℃の炉内に20分間入れた。このシリカを冷却し、次いで、DEMM(95%純度)で飽和させた。硬化は数分以内に起こった。

ケブラー(5オンス,平織(#4201))をアルミニウムパンに入れ、1.0NのKOH含有メタノール溶液で10分間エッチングした。このクロスを脱イオン水で3回すすぎ洗浄し、次いで、121℃の炉内に15分間入れた。DEMM(95%純度)を滴下してケブラーフィルムを飽和させた。硬化は数時間以内に起こった。
特定の重合性組成物を、プライマー処理した、またはプライマー処理していない基材上に流延し、結合し、次いで、硬化および/または剥離強度について試験した。
3種類のプライマー:Michem Flex P1852、Michem Flex P2300およびDigiPrime 4431(Michelman(シンシナティ,OH)製)を、3種類の異なる基材:二軸延伸ポリプロピレン(BOPP)、ポリエチレンテレフタレート(PET)およびポリカーボネート(PC)上に#2.5ワイヤロッドを用いて流延し、0.25ミルのプライマーコートを得た。次いで、サンプルを100℃の炉内で60秒間硬化させた。次いで、ジエチルメチレンマロネート(DEMM)をプライマー溶液の上面に#14ロッドを用いて流延し、1ミル厚の膜を得た。コーティングしたサンプルを、次いで、接着剤面に一体に配置し、Carverプレスで50psiにて60秒間結合した。サンプルを1インチに切断し、Thwing−Albert EJAシリーズ試験機のT型剥離モードで、25Nロードセルを用いて試験した。剥離強度は2インチの距離で試験した。剥離の結果を以下に表に示す。ほとんどの破壊様式は接着剤であったが、ポリカーボネート(PC)サンプルでは基材の破壊が示された。
別のラミネート構造体を、DEMM(99%純度)を用いてシリコンウェハ上にカプトンフィルムをラミネート加工して作製した。1%の3−アミノプロピルトリエトキシシラン含有エタノールを表面カップリング剤として使用した。1.0 1.0N KOH含有メタノール,Alfa Aesar,ロット番号H29Y020
カプトンフィルムをKOHのメタノールの1.0N溶液中に浸漬させ、10分間エッチングした。このフィルムをエタノールで3回すすぎ洗浄した。次に、1%の3−アミノプロピルトリエトキシシラン含有エタノールの層を、カプトンおよびSiウェハの両方の上面で#10Myerロッドを用いて下方に引き延ばした。このフィルムおよびウェハを121℃の炉内に10分間入れた。フィルムとウェハを炉から取り出して冷却した後、次いで、数滴のDEMMをウェハに塗布し、カプトンフィルムをこの上面にしっかりと配置し5秒間保持した。フィルムとウェハ間に相応な付着性が観察された。
本発明の実施における使用に適した活性化剤は広くさまざまである。具体的な活性化剤の選択は、重合性組成物の化学的性質、使用される硬化機構の性質、重合が行われる方法および/または条件、最終使用用途および/または本発明の実施において使用される任意の基材の性質に依存する。活性化剤としては、1種類以上の重合性モノマー、プレポリマーおよび/または低分子量ポリマーもしくはオリゴマーの重合に関与するもの、例えば、活性剤、共活性剤、促進剤、共促進剤、触媒、共触媒、開始剤および共開始剤などが挙げられ得る。メチレンマロネートなどの二置換ビニルモノマーに一般的に重要なものは塩基、塩基前駆体、塩基変換体および塩基向上体である。便宜上、本明細書において特に記載のない限り、用語「重合活性剤」、「活性剤」、「活性化剤」、「プライマー」または「開始剤」は、本明細書において、かかる任意のすべての薬剤を意味するために用いている。
当業者には、常套的な範囲内の実験手法を用いて、本明細書に記載の発明の具体的な実施形態の多くの均等物が認識され、または確認することができよう。かかる均等物は本発明に包含されることを意図する。

- 100℃を超える加熱に耐え得るものではない少なくとも1種類の感熱材料を含む、請求項12に記載の製造物品。
- a)重合性組成物;
b)強化または充填材料;および
c)前記重合性組成物と強化材料を複合材料に成型するための手段
を含む、複合材料を調製するための系。 - さらに重合活性剤を含む、請求項15に記載の複合材料を調製するための系。
- 重合活性剤が、強化または充填材料中または該材料上に存在している、請求項16に記載の複合材料を調製するための系。
- 重合活性剤が、純粋な形態、希釈形態、逸散性または非逸散性の形態で存在している、請求項17に記載の複合材料を調製するための系。
- 重合活性剤が、塩基、塩基前駆体、塩基創出体または塩基向上体を含む、請求項16に記載の複合材料を調製するための系。
- 重合活性剤が、有機材料、無機材料もしくは有機金属材料またはこの組合せから選択される、請求項19に記載の複合材料を調製するための系。

- さらに配合添加剤を含む、請求項15に記載の複合材料を調製するための系。
- 配合添加剤が、可塑剤、チキソトロープ剤、接着促進剤、酸化防止剤、光安定剤、UV安定剤、充填材、界面活性剤、湿潤剤、粘度調整剤、体質顔料、分散剤、アンチブロッキング剤、消泡剤、脱気剤、垂れ落ち防止剤、凝結防止薬剤、つや消し剤、平滑化剤、ワックス、傷防止添加剤、スクラッチ防止添加剤、不活性樹脂から選択される少なくとも1つの構成員である、請求項22に記載の複合材料を調製するための系。
- 二重活性化ビニル化合物を含む重合性組成物の重合生成物を含み、該二重活性化ビニル化合物がシアノアクリレートでない、ラミネート用接着剤。
- 二重活性化ビニル化合物が、メチレンマロネート、メチレンベータケトエステル、メチレンベータジケトンからなる群のうちの少なくとも1つの構成員を含む、請求項24に記載のラミネート用接着剤。
- 重合性組成物が、多官能性のモノマーまたはオリゴマーを含む、請求項24に記載のラミネート用接着剤。
- 多官能性モノマーまたはオリゴマーが、構造:−W−C(O)−C(=CH2)−C(O)−W−(式中、Wは−O−または直接結合を表す。)で表される少なくとも2種類の単位を含む、請求項26に記載のラミネート用接着剤。
- 重合性組成物が、少なくとも1種類の多官能性モノマーまたはオリゴマーと少なくとも1種類の単官能性モノマーのブレンドを含む、請求項27に記載のラミネート用接着剤。
- 多官能性モノマーまたはオリゴマーが、ブレンド中に、該ブレンドの重量基準で少なくとも2%、少なくとも5%および少なくとも10%から選択される量で存在している、請求項27に記載のラミネート用接着剤。
- a)第1基材を準備すること;
b)前記第1基材に:
二重活性化ビニル化合物を含み、該二重活性化ビニル化合物がシアノアクリレートでない重合性組成物
を含むラミネート用接着剤を塗布すること;および
c)第2基材を前記第1基材に該ラミネート用接着剤の硬化によって接着させること
を含む、ラミネート材の作製方法。 - さらに、重合活性剤を前記第1または第2基材に塗布する工程を含む、請求項30に記載のラミネート材の作製方法。
- 第1および第2基材が、同じ材料のものであっても異なる材料のものであってもよく、独立して:植物系材料、プラスチック、カーボン系材料、金属およびガラス系材料からなる群より選択される、請求項30に記載のラミネート材の作製方法。
- 第1および第2基材が、同じ材料のものであっても異なる材料のものであってもよく、独立して、紙、オーク材、ダグラスファー、バルサ材、ポリフェニレンエーテル(PPE)プラスチック、ポリカーボネート(PC)、シリコン、ガラス、繊維ガラス、銀被覆銅、銅、スチール、ポリプロピレン、二軸延伸ポリプロピレン、一軸延伸ポリプロピレン、ポリエチレン、ポリエステル、ポリエチレンテレフタレート、二軸延伸ポリエチレンテレフタレートおよびアルミニウムからなる群より選択される、請求項30に記載のラミネート材の作製方法。
- さらに、塩基、塩基前駆体、塩基創出体または塩基向上体の形態の重合活性剤を重合性組成物中または一方の基材上に準備する工程を含む、請求項30に記載のラミネート材の作製方法。
- 重合活性剤が、有機材料、無機材料もしくは有機金属材料またはこの組合せから選択される、請求項34に記載のラミネート材の作製方法。

- さらに配合添加剤を準備する工程を含む、請求項30に記載のラミネート材の作製方法。
- 配合添加剤が、可塑剤、チキソトロープ剤、接着促進剤、酸化防止剤、光安定剤、UV安定剤、充填材、界面活性剤、湿潤剤、粘度調整剤、体質顔料、分散剤、アンチブロッキング剤、消泡剤、脱気剤、垂れ落ち防止剤、凝結防止薬剤、つや消し剤、平滑化剤、ワックス、傷防止添加剤、スクラッチ防止添加剤、不活性樹脂から選択される少なくとも1つの構成員である、請求項37に記載のラミネート材の作製方法。
- 請求項30から38のいずれかに記載の方法によって作製されるラミネート製造物品。
- ラミネート製造物品が、柔軟性ラミネート物品である、請求項39に記載のラミネート製造物品。
- 柔軟性ラミネートが、フィルムまたは包装材料である、請求項40に記載のラミネート製造物品。
- さらに少なくとも1種類の感熱材料を含む、請求項39に記載のラミネート製造物品。
- a)二重活性化ビニル化合物を含み、該二重活性化ビニル化合物がシアノアクリレートでない重合性組成物を準備すること;
b)強化または充填材料を準備すること;および
c)該重合性組成物中に担持させた、または該強化材料上に担持させた重合活性剤を準備すること;ならびに
d)該重合性組成物と該強化材料を成型すること
を含む、複合材物品の作製方法。 - d)が、100℃未満の温度条件下で行われる、請求項43に記載の方法。
- d)が、周囲温度で行われる、請求項43に記載の方法。
- 重合活性剤が、塩基、塩基前駆体、塩基創出体または塩基向上体の形態である、請求項43に記載の方法。
- 重合活性剤が、有機材料、無機材料もしくは有機金属材料またはこの組合せから選択される、請求項46に記載の方法。

- さらに配合添加剤を添加することを含む、請求項43に記載の方法。
- 配合添加剤が、可塑剤、チキソトロープ剤、接着促進剤、酸化防止剤、光安定剤、UV安定剤、充填材、界面活性剤、湿潤剤、粘度調整剤、体質顔料、分散剤、アンチブロッキング剤、消泡剤、脱気剤、垂れ落ち防止剤、凝結防止薬剤、つや消し剤、平滑化剤、ワックス、傷防止添加剤、スクラッチ防止添加剤、不活性樹脂から選択される少なくとも1つの構成員である、請求項49に記載の方法。
- 柔軟性複合材物品を含む、請求項12に記載の製造物品。
- 柔軟性複合材物品が、フィルム、包装部材、建設材である、請求項51に記載の製造物品。
- 剛性複合材物品を含む、請求項12に記載の製造物品。
- 剛性複合材が、構造物物品、家具物品、航空宇宙産業部材、建築用物品、建設用物品である、請求項53に記載の製造物品。
