Abstract

MÉTODO PARA PRODUZIR FIBRAS DE VIDRO DE ALTA RESISTÊNCIA EM OPERAÇÃO DE FUSÃO DIRETA E PRODUTOS FORMADOS A PARTIR DESTAS FIBRAS A presente invenção descreve um método para formar fibras de vidro de alta resistência em tanque de fusão substancialmente livre de platina e de outros materiais de metal nobre, produtos feitos a partir destas fibras e composições em batelada adequadas para uso no método. Uma composição de vidro para uso na presente invenção inclui 50 a 75% em peso de SiO2, 13 a 30% em peso de Al2O3, 5 a 20% em peso de MgO, O a 1 O em peso de CaO e O a 5% em peso de R2O, em que R2O é a soma de LizO, Na2O e K2O, possui temperatura mais alta de fibrilação, por exemplo, 2400 - 2900 ºF (1316 - 1593 ºC) e/ou temperatura liquidus que é abaixo da temperatura de fibrilação em tão pouco como 45 ºF (25 ºC). Outra composição de vidro para uso no método da presente invenção é com até aproximadamente 64 a 75 por cento em peso de SiO2, 16 a 24 por cento em peso de AlzO3, 8 a 12 por cento em peso de MgO e 0,25 a 3 por cento em peso de R2O, em que R2O é igual à soma de Li2O, Na2O e K2O, possui temperatura de fibrilação inferior a aproximadamente 2650 ºC (1454 ºC) e delta t de pelo menos 80 ºC (45 ºC). Uma canaleta (forehearth) (12) para transportar vidro fundido do tanque de fusão de vidro (10) para posição de formação é descrita. O uso de fornalhas e/ou canaletas substancialmente livres de platina ou de outros materiais de material nobre permite reduzir significativamente o custo de produção de fibras de vidro em comparação com o custo de fibras produzidas com fornalha de fusão revestida com materiais de metal nobre.
