Abstract

Se describe una composición para la fabricación de fibras de vidrio de alta resistencia, adecuada para la fabricación tanto en hornos revestidos con metal precioso como en fundidores de vidrio con revestimiento refractario La composición de vidrio de la presente invención incluye 62-68 % en peso de SiO2, 22-26 % en peso de Al2O3, 8-15 % en peso de MgO y 0 1 a 3 0 % en peso de Li2O. Una composición conveniente de la presente invención incluye 64-66. 5 % en peso de SiO2, 23-24.5 % en peso de Al2O3, 9-11 % en peso de MgO y 0.3-.35 % en peso de Li2O. Otra composición conveniente incluye 66.5 % en peso de SiO2, 23.2 % en peso de Al2O3, 9.8 % en peso de MgO y 0 3 % en peso de Li2O. Todavía otra composición conveniente es de aproximadamente 66 % en peso de SiO2, aproximadamente 23 % en peso de Al2O3, aproximadamente 10 5 % en peso de MgO y aproximadamente 0 3 % en peso de Li2O. También se describen fibras formadas por la presente invención. Las fibras tienen una temperatura de fibrizado menor a 1454°C (2650°F), una ?T de al menos 44 44°C (80°F). Además, las fibras de vidrio de la presente invención, típicamente tienen una resistencia que excede 4,826 4 MPa (700 KPSI), en una modalidad, una resistencia que excede aproximadamente 5,033.2 MPa (730 KPSI), y todavía en otra modalidad una resistencia en exceso de aproximadamente 5,171.1 MPa (750 KPSI). Las fibras de vidrio típicamente tendrán un módulo mayor que 88,256 kPa (12 8 MPSI), en una modalidad mayor que aproximadamente 89,635 kPa (13 MPSI), y en todavía otra modalidad, mayor que aproximadamente 91,014 kPa (13.2 MPSI).
