Abstract
Se describen un método para formar fibras de vidrio de alta resistencia en un horno de fusión de vidrio sustancialmente libre de platino u otros materiales de metal noble, los productos elaborados y composiciones de lotes adecuadas para utilizar en el método Una composición de vidrio para utilizar en la presente invención incluye 50-75 % en peso de Si02, 13-30 % en peso de Al2O3, 5-20 % en peso de MgO, 0- 10 % en peso de CaO, 0 a 5 % en peso de R2O en donde R2O es la suma de Li2O, Na2O y K2O, tiene una superior temperatura de fibrado o fibrizado, e g 1316 - 1593°C (2400 - 2900°F) y/o temperatura de liquidus es inferior a la temperatura de fibrizado por tampoco como 25°C (45°F). Otra composición de vidrio para utilizar en el método de la presente invención es de hasta aproximadamente 64-75 por ciento en peso de SiO2, 16-24 por ciento en peso de Al2O2, 8-12 por ciento en peso de MgO y 0 25-3 por ciento en peso de R2O, en donde R2O es igual a la suma de Li2O, Na2O y K2O, tiene una temperatura fibrizado menor a aproximadamente 1454°C (2650°F), y una ?T de al menos 45°C (80°F). Se describe un alimentador (12) para transportar vidrio fundido desde el fundidor de vidrio (10) a una posición de formación. Al utilizar hornos y/o alimentadores sustancialmente libres de platino u otros materiales de metales nobles, se reduce significativamente el costo de producción de fibras de vidrio, en comparación con el costo de fibras producidas utilizando un horno de fusión revestido con materiales de metales nobles.
