Description
1.走査:光源41は点光源であり、該画像の各ピクセルの画像情報に応じて照明強度を同期変調すると共に、ストップ42で走査ミラーを使用して連続するピクセルを走査することによって画像は生成される。この場合、画像平面46に変調器は必要ない。
2.空間変調:空間光変調器がコリメート構成44の焦点面に対応する画像平面46に配置される。変調器は、例えば、LCOS、LCDまたはDLPデバイスであり得る。
3.組み合わせ:ストップ42での走査および平面46での空間変調。
図4A~4Cは、2つのPBS(偏光ビームスプリッタ)に基づく図3Aと同等のアーキテクチャを示す。光源51は、光をPBS40a、レンズ53、および走査反射ミラー52に伝達する。以下、本明細書全体を通して、当技術分野で知られているように、1/4波長板をPBS反射後およびPBS透過前に、または、PBS透過後およびPBS反射前で使用することを前提としているが、その詳細は説明を簡単にするために省略する。光はミラー52から反射し、PBS40aを透過し、ミラー57(図示のように平面ミラーか、または光パワーを有してもよい)によって反射され、LCOS画像化マトリックス56に導かれるようにPBS40aおよびPBS40bによって反射される。LCOSから、光はPBS40bを通過してレンズ54に到達し、PBS40bに戻り、導波路の入射瞳でもある射出瞳55に到達する。
図6Aおよび6Bは、図1Bに記載されるような垂直結合を備えるプロジェクタの光学装置を示す。図6Aは側面図を示し、図6Bは底面図を示す。この場合、導波路14は32によって示された入射瞳を有する。反射ミラー18の結合方向は、プロジェクタのPBSの向きに垂直であるため、図6Bの底面図でより良好に参照することができる。
以下でより詳細に説明されるような本発明の特定の実施形態では、典型的にはラスターパターンで画像平面を横切って照明光による2次元の走査を実行することが望ましい場合がある。ここで、第1の(より迅速な)走査方向は主走査方向と呼び、この主走査方向に垂直な方向は副走査方向と呼ぶ。2軸走査は単一のミラーを使用して実行され得るが、多くの場合、各々が単一軸を中心に傾斜する独自のアクチュエータを備える2つの分離した走査ミラーを採用することによってコストを削減し、信頼性を向上させることができる。2つの単軸スキャナが使用される場合、これらの2つの軸ミラーを射出瞳の画像である単一平面に配置することは不可能である。本発明の一態様によれば、各単軸走査ミラーを対応する軸の有効導波路瞳の画像を含む平面に実質的に配置することができる。2つの異なる軸に対する導波路瞳のこれらの別個の位置は、図2Aではエッジ26および28として、図2Bでは次元34および35として例示される。
図7Aのアプローチの代替として、本発明の別の態様によれば、2軸走査は、相互の分離したミラー上に射出瞳312を2回画像化することによって有利的に達成され得る。図7Dは、第1の瞳画像42V(垂直スキャナ)が別の瞳画像42H(水平スキャナ)にどのように再画像化されるかを概略的に示す。
この時点まで、主画像生成機構として、または、空間光変調器と組み合わせて使用するために、走査照明の能力を提供するための複数の新規の光学装置が提示されてきた。以下に提示される複数の特定の実装は、上記の光学装置のうちの1つ以上によって促進され、かつ、それらを使用して有利的に実装され得る。
本発明の特定の実装において、複数の照明光源808は少なくとも1群の個別に制御される照明光源を含む。照明光源は実質的に連続した照明パターンを生成し、該照明パターンは視野の主走査方向の次元に垂直な該視野の一次元の少なくとも一部、場合によっては全体に渡ってまたがる。これによって、走査装置に必要な要求繰り返し周波数または走査動作速度を低下させる。
上記の連続的にグループ化された照明パターンへの追加または代替として、本発明の別の態様によれば、本発明の特定の実装に離間した照明光源を適用する。この照明光源は、投影される画像の視野に渡って必要な走査動作の角度範囲を低減する。具体的には、離間した照明光源を使用することによって、照明光源の各々からの照明光が視野の一次元の一部のみを走査する一方で、複数の照明光源からの照明光が共同で一次元の全体を横切って走査するように傾斜ミラーアセンブリ812の傾斜動作を低減することができる。

ここで図10A~10Dを参照すると、傾斜ミラーアセンブリを使用して異なる色の照明光源を切り替える本発明のさらなる態様が示される。具体的には、ここでの複数の照明光源808は異なる色の照明光源を含む。コントローラ830は走査装置ドライバ816を駆動してミラー814を少なくとも第1の位置と第2の位置との間で変位させて、照明光の色を切り替える。ここで、第1の位置では空間光変調器824が照明光源の第1の照明光源によって完全に照明され、第2の位置では空間光変調器が照明光源の第2の照明光源によって完全に照明される。また、コントローラ830は、照明の色の切り替えに同期して空間光変調器824を作動させて、照明の色の各々についてのデジタル画像の対応する内容を生成する。これにより、異なる色の照明光源を混合するために光導波管または拡散器の採用が不要となる。
Claims (7)
- 出口ストップ(45)を介して光ガイド光学素子の入力ストップに導入するためのコリメート画像を投影するための画像プロジェクタであって、前記コリメート画像が視野を有するデジタル画像の表現であり、前記画像プロジェクタが、
(a)複数の照明光源(808)を含む照明装置(806)と、
(b)ミラー(814)と、前記ミラー(814)の傾斜動作を駆動するドライバ(816)と、を含む傾斜ミラーアセンブリ(812)と、
(c)前記ドライバ(816)および前記照明装置(806)と電子接続されたコントローラ(830)と、
(d)複数の光学素子を含む光学装置(836)であって、
(i)複数の前記照明光源から前記ミラーに向かって照明光を誘導し、
(ii)前記ミラーから反射された前記照明光を画像平面に向かって誘導する、ように配置された、光学装置と、を備え、
前記コントローラ(830)が、前記デジタル画像の内容に応じて、前記ミラー(814)の前記傾斜動作と同期して、前記照明光源(808)の各々の強度を変調し、
前記光学装置(836)が、前記画像平面からの照明光をコリメートして、前記出口ストップ(45)に誘導されるコリメート画像を生成するように配置された光学素子をさらに備え、
複数の前記照明光源(808)が離間しており、前記傾斜動作が、前記照明光源(808)の各々からの照明光が前記視野の一次元の一部のみを横切って走査する一方で、複数の前記照明光源(808)からの照明光が共同して前記一次元の全体を走査し、
前記画像プロジェクタが前記画像平面に配置された空間光変調器(824)をさらに含み、前記光学装置(836)が、前記空間光変調器(824)の複数のピクセル素子を照明する前記照明光源(808)の各々から照明光のパッチを生成するように構成され、前記空間光変調器(824)が、前記デジタル画像の複製を生成するように、前記照明装置(806)と協調して前記コントローラ(830)によって駆動されていることを特徴とする、画像プロジェクタ。 - 前記光学装置が、前記出口ストップに前記ミラーの画像を実質的に生成するものであり、前記光学装置は前記ミラーの画像を前記光ガイド光学素子の入力ストップに生成するために瞳画像化の方法を用いる、請求項1に記載の画像プロジェクタ。
- 前記傾斜ミラーアセンブリ(812)が、前記照明光源の各々からの照明光が2次元走査パターンで前記画像平面を横切って走査するような2軸走査装置の一部である、請求項1に記載の画像プロジェクタ。
- 離間した前記照明光源(808)が、2次元で離間した照明光源(808)の2次元アレイの一部であり、前記2次元走査パターンが、前記照明光源(808)の各々からの照明光が前記視野の各次元の一部のみを横切って走査する一方で、複数の前記照明光源(808)からの照明光が共同して前記視野の双方の次元の全体を横切って走査するようなものである、請求項3に記載の画像プロジェクタ。
- 離間した前記照明光源(808)の各々が、前記視野の走査方向の次元に垂直な前記視野の一次元にまたがる実質的に連続した照明パターンを生成するために協働する一群の照明光源(808)の一部である、請求項1に記載の画像プロジェクタ。
- 前記照明光源(808)の各々が前記デジタル画像の単一ピクセルに対応する前記画像平面に瞬間的にスポットを生成するために、前記光学装置(836)が前記ミラー(814)から反射された前記照明光を前記画像平面に集光するように構成されている、請求項1に記載の画像プロジェクタ。
- 複数の前記照明光源(808)のすべてが単色であり、複数の前記照明光源の各々が異なる色の2つの追加の照明光源に関連付けられ、赤、緑、青色の照明光源(808)のトリプレットを構成している、請求項1~6のいずれかに記載の画像プロジェクタ。
