Description
すなわち、本発明は、一般式(I)
R2、R3、R4及びR5は、それぞれ独立して炭素原子数1〜8のアルキル基を表し、該アルキル基中に存在する1個又は2個以上の−CH2−はそれぞれ独立して−O−、−S−、−CH=CH−、−C≡C−、−CO−、−CO−O−、−O−CO−、−OCF2−又は−CF2O−に置換されてもよく、R2とR3及び/又はR4とR5は互いに結合して環を形成してもよく、
R6及びR7はそれぞれ独立して水素原子又は炭素原子数1〜6のアルキル基を表し、該アルキル基中に存在する1個又は2個以上の−CH2−はそれぞれ独立して−O−、−S−、−CH=CH−、−C≡C−、−CO−、−CO−O−、−O−CO−、−OCF2−又は−CF2O−に置換されてもよく、
M1は3価の有機基を表し、複数存在するR1、R2、R3、R4、R5、R6及びR7は同一であっても異なっていてもよい。)
で表される化合物を提供し、併せて当該化合物を含有する液晶組成物及び表示素子を提供する。
R2,R3,R4及びR5はそれぞれ独立して炭素原子数1〜4のアルキル基であることが好ましく、無置換のアルキル基であることが好ましく、直鎖状であることが好ましい。R2,R3,R4及びR5のいずれか1個以上がメチル基であることが更に好ましく、R2,R3,R4及びR5の全てがメチル基を表すことが特に好ましい。また、R2とR3,及び/又はR4とR5は互いに結合して環構造を形成してもよい。
R6及びR7は水素原子又は炭素原子数1〜4のアルキル基であることが好ましく、製造の容易さから水素原子であることが特に好ましい。
Sp1、Sp2及びSp3はそれぞれ独立して単結合又は炭素原子数1〜10のアルキレン基を表し、該アルキレン基中に存在する1個又は2個以上の−CH2−はそれぞれ独立して−O−、−S−、−CH=CH−、−C≡C−、−CO−、−CO−O−、−O−CO−、−OCF2−又は−CF2O−に置換されてもよく、

から選ばれる基を表す。)で表される構造であることが、液晶組成物との相溶性および保存安定性を高めるためには好ましい。
ZI1は−O−、−CO−O−、単結合を表すことが好ましい。SpI1は単結合又は炭素原子数1〜4の無置換のアルキル基を表すことが好ましく、直鎖状であることが好ましい。
一般式(I−b)中、RH3、RH4及びRH5は、水素原子であることが特に好ましい。アルキル基である場合は炭素原子数1から8であることが好ましく、炭素原子数1から5であることが好ましく、炭素原子数1から3であることが好ましく、炭素原子数1であることが更に好ましい。
なお、一般式(I)中に存在する隣接する2個以上の−CH2−がそれぞれ独立して−O−、−S−、−CO−O−、−O−CO−、−OCF2−又は−CF2O−に置換されることはない。

続いて、テトラメチルピペリジノール(S−3)と塩基存在下に反応させることにより一般式(I−13)で表される化合物を得ることもできる。塩基としては、水素化ナトリウム、ナトリウムメトキシド、ナトリウムエトキシドおよびカリウムt−ブトキシドを用いることができる。
(実施例1)化合物(I−1−a)の製造
1H−NMR(400MHz、CDCl3): 1.05−1.16(m、24H)、1.21(s、18H)、1.87−1.92(m、6H)、2.54(dd、J=6.2Hz、16.6Hz、2H)、2.70(dd、J=7.1Hz、16.6Hz、2H)、3.16−3.23(m、1H)、5.13−5.23(m、3H).
GC−MS(EI):m/z 594 [M+H+]、578 [M−15+]
(実施例2)化合物(I−2−a)の製造
GC−MS(EI):m/z 622[M+H+]、606 [M−15+]
(実施例3)化合物(I−3−a)の製造
GC−MS(EI):m/z 580 [M+H+]、564 [M−15+]
(実施例4)化合物(I−5−a)の製造
GC−MS(EI):m/z 634 [M+H+]、618 [M−15+]
(実施例5)化合物(I−6−a)の製造
GC−MS(EI):m/z 634 [M+H+]、618 [M−15+]
(実施例6−10)液晶組成物の調製
以下の組成からなるホスト液晶組成物(H)を調製した。
測定した特性は以下の通りである。
B:95〜98%
C:95%以下
耐光VHR:液晶組成物に対して、厚さ0.5mmのガラスを介して、温度20℃を保ちながら、超高圧水銀ランプを用いて紫外線を180J/m2照射した(照射強度は366nmで0.1W/m2、30分)。紫外線照射後の液晶の電圧保持率を上述のVHR測定と同様の方法で測定した。―評価は以下の3段階で行った。
B:75〜90%
C:75%以下
相溶性:液晶組成物に、対象化合物を500ppm添加し、100℃で加熱攪拌して、均一とした。これを25℃に冷却して1日放置し、溶解の様子を目視で3段階評価した。
B:わずかに溶解せず分離している
C:一部溶解せず分離している
(比較例1)
比較例として、母体液晶(H)に対し、特にさらなる安定剤化合物を添加することなく特性を測定した。
(比較例2)
母体液晶(H)に対し、類似のヒンダードアミン骨格を有する化合物(R−1)を500ppm添加し、測定した。
この結果から、本願発明の化合物は、液晶組成物との相溶性が高く、且つ、光による液晶組成物の劣化を防止する効果があることが分かる。

- 一般式(I)
R2、R3、R4及びR5は、それぞれ独立して炭素原子数1〜4のアルキル基を表し、
R6及びR7はそれぞれ独立して水素原子を表し、
M1は一般式(I−M)
Sp1、Sp2及びSp3はそれぞれ独立して炭素原子数1〜4の無置換のアルキレン基又
は単結合を表し、
Aは
で表される基を表し、
複数存在するR1、R2、R3、R4、R5、R6及びR7は同一であっても異なっていてもよい。)
で表される化合物を一種又は二種以上含有し、室温において液晶相を呈する組成物。 - 一般式(I―M)において、Z1、Z2及びZ3の少なくとも1個以上が−O−、−CO−O−を表す請求項1に記載の組成物。
- 一般式(I−M)において、−Sp1−Z1−、−Sp2−Z2−及び−Sp3−Z3−がそれぞれ独立して−CO−O−、−CH2−CO−O−又は−CH2−CH2−CO−O−で表される、請求項1又は2に記載の組成物。
- 一般式(I)において、R2、R3、R4及びR5のいずれか1個以上がメチル基を表す、請求項1〜3のいずれか一項に記載の組成物。
- 請求項1〜4のいずれか一項に記載の組成物を使用した液晶表示素子。
