Description
2007年10月1日出願のJames CarusoらによるCOLOR TUNABLE LIGHT EMITTING DEVICEと題する米国特許出願第11/906,532号(整理番号ITMX−00228US0)。
1.発明の分野
本発明は、色/色温度可変光放出デバイスに関し、特に、特定の色の光を生成するために波長変換性蛍光体物質を含む、発光ダイオードのような固体光源に関する。
光源、特に発光ダイオード(LED)によって生成される光の色は、主として、その光を生成するために使用されるデバイスアーキテクチャ及び材料選択によって決まる。たとえば、多くのLEDは、LEDチップ/ダイによって放出される放射線の一部分を吸収し、異なる色(波長)の放射線を再放出するフォトルミネッセンス物質である一つ以上の蛍光体物質を組み込んでいる。これが、「白色」LED光源の製造における最先端技術である。そのようなLEDによって生成される光の正味色は、LEDチップからの光の色と、LED光が製造されるとき固定され、決定される、蛍光体によって再放出される色とが合わさった固有の色(波長)である。
本発明の実施態様は、空間的に変化する波長変換性(特性)を有し、一つの波長範囲(色)にある、励起光源、通常は発光ダイオード(LED)からの光を異なる波長範囲(色)の光に変換するために使用される波長変換コンポーネントに基づく。第一及び第二の波長範囲の組み合わせた光を含む、デバイスによって生成される光の色は、励起光源に対してコンポーネントを動かして第二の波長範囲の光の全割合を変更することによって制御する(変える)ことができる。
Claims (23)
- 第一の波長の光を生成するように動作可能である複数の発光ダイオード及び励起放射線の少なくとも一部を第二の波長の光に変換するように動作可能である波長変換コンポーネントを含む色可変光放出デバイスであって、デバイスによって放出される光が、前記第一及び第二の波長範囲の合わせた光を含み、前記波長変換コンポーネントが複数の波長変換領域を含み、複数の波長変換領域が少なくとも一つの蛍光体物質を含み、それぞれの領域が前記発光ダイオードのそれぞれ一つと対応し、各領域が、空間的に変化する波長変換性を有し、デバイスによって生成される光の色が、各発光ダイオードからの第一の波長範囲の光がそのそれぞれの波長変換領域の異なる部分に入射するように前記発光ダイオードに対して前記コンポーネントを動かすことによって可変であるデバイス。
- 前記少なくとも一つの蛍光体物質の単位面積あたりの濃度が空間的に変化する、請求項1記載のデバイス。
- 前記少なくとも一つの蛍光体物質の厚さが空間的に変化する、請求項2記載のデバイス。
- 前記厚さが実質的に線形に変化する、請求項3記載のデバイス。
- 前記少なくとも一つの蛍光体が、透明な材料の単位体積あたり実質的に一定である濃度で透明な材料に組み込まれ、前記波長変換領域の厚さが空間的に変化する、請求項3記載のデバイス。
- 前記波長変換コンポーネントが透明なキャリヤを含み、前記キャリヤの表面上に前記少なくとも一つの蛍光体物質が設けられている、請求項2記載のデバイス。
- 前記少なくとも一つの蛍光体が、空間的に変化するパターンとして設けられている、請求項6記載のデバイス。
- 前記波長変換コンポーネントが、前記第一の波長範囲の光の少なくとも一部を第三の波長範囲の光に変換するように動作可能である第二の蛍光体物質をさらに含み、前記デバイスによって放出される光が、第一、第二及び第三の波長範囲の合わせた光を含み、前記第二の蛍光体物質の単位面積あたりの濃度が空間的に変化する、請求項1記載のデバイス。
- 前記波長変換コンポーネントが、前記複数の発光ダイオードに対して移動可能であり、一次元的、二次元的及び回転方向からなる群より選択されるやり方で変化する波長変換性を有する、請求項1記載のデバイス。
- 前記第一の波長範囲の光の少なくとも一部を第三の波長範囲の光に変換するように動作可能である第二の蛍光体物質を含む複数の第二の波長変換領域を含む第二の波長変換コンポーネントをさらに含み、デバイスによって放出される光が、第一、第二及び第三の波長範囲の合わせた光を含み、前記第二の波長変換コンポーネントが、空間的に変化する波長変換性を有し、前記デバイスによって生成される光の色が、前記第一の波長範囲の光が前記第一及び第二の波長変換領域の異なる部分に入射するように前記発光ダイオードに対して前記第一及び第二の波長変換コンポーネントを動かすことによって可変である、請求項1記載のデバイス。
- 前記第一及び第二の波長変換コンポーネントが、互いに及び前記複数の発光ダイオードに対して独立して移動可能である、請求項10記載のデバイス。
- 前記第二の蛍光体物質の単位面積あたりの濃度が空間的に変化する、請求項10記載のデバイス。
- 前記第二の蛍光体物質の厚さが空間的に変化する、請求項12記載のデバイス。
- 前記厚さが実質的に線形に変化する、請求項13記載のデバイス。
- 前記第二の蛍光体が、透明な材料の単位体積あたり実質的に一定である濃度で透明な材料に組み込まれ、前記波長変換領域の厚さが空間的に変化する、請求項10記載のデバイス。
- 前記第二の波長変換コンポーネントが透明なキャリヤを含み、前記キャリヤの表面上に前記第二の蛍光体物質が設けられている、請求項10記載のデバイス。
- 前記第二の蛍光体物質が、単位面積あたりのその濃度が空間的に変化するような空間的に変化するパターンとして設けられている、請求項16記載のデバイス。
- 前記複数の発光ダイオードが線形アレイを含み、前記波長変換領域が対応する線形アレイを含み、前記光源が、前記発光ダイオードのアレイに対して前記コンポーネントを線形に移動させることによって可変である、請求項1記載のデバイス。
- 前記複数の発光ダイオードが二次元アレイを含み、前記波長変換領域が対応する二次元アレイを含み、各領域が、二次元において空間的に変化する波長変換性を有し、前記デバイスが、前記発光ダイオードのアレイに対して前記コンポーネントを二次元的に移動させることによって可変である、請求項1記載のデバイス。
- 前記複数の発光ダイオードが円形アレイを含み、前記波長変換領域が対応する円形アレイを含み、デバイスが、前記発光ダイオードのアレイに対して前記コンポーネントを回転方向に移動させることによって可変である、請求項1記載のデバイス。
- 前記波長変換コンポーネントが回転可能である、請求項1記載のデバイス。
- 前記複数の発光ダイオードが、同心円のアレイとして配置されている、請求項1記載のデバイス。
- 前記波長変換領域が、同心円のアレイとして配置されている、請求項1記載のデバイス。
