Description

を分析計に提供することにある。
(a)軸方向の大きさおよび放射状の大きさを有する容積をロッドのセット間に規定し、
(b)前記容積内に制動ガスを供給し、
(c)問題のイオンを前記容積の中に注入するかあるいは前記容積内に形成し、
(d)前記容積内の問題の質量範囲にイオンを含むように前記ロッドに電位を印加し、
(e)前記ロッドの長さの少なくとも一部に沿って縦方向に軸電界を確立し、かつ前記容積内に含まれるイオンを分離するように前記電界を振動させ、
(f)検出するために問題のイオンを前記容積から排出し、
(g)分析するために排出されたイオンの少なくともいくつかを検出することを含む、サンプルを質量分析する方法を提供する。
ロッド62Aとロッド62Bとの間に1ボルト差を印加することによって軸電界が形成された場合、この差は、センチメートル当たり0.578/15=0.038ボルト(15センチメートルの長さのロッドに対して)であるように計算される、前述のような軸電界を形成する。図12のプロット86によって示されるように、この軸電界は、10ms未満の時間にロッドセットQ2からの大部分のイオンを除去するのに十分である。
次に、この装置は、2つのイオン間、すなわち、低質量イオン(m/z40)と高質量イオン(m/z609)との間の“ホップをピークにする”ために使用された。
ロッドセットの長さの一部に沿って軸電界を印加するだけで十分な場合がある。例えば、ロッドセットに入るイオンは、通常、比較的速く移動し、ロッドセットの長さの最後の半分に沿ってのみ減速するので、ロッドセットを通過するイオンの速度を速めることが目的であるような用途では、ロッドセットの長さの最後の半分あるいは最後の部分に沿ってのみ軸電界を印加するだけで十分なこともある。しかしながら、セグメント化ロッドあるいはセグメント化ケースあるいはポストを使用する場合は、ロッドセットが極端に短くない限り(せいぜい1インチあるいは2インチ)、2つのセグメントしか備えないとロッドセットの長さの十分な部分に沿って延びる電界が生じないので、通常3つ以上のセグメントを設ける。少なくとも3つのセグメントがあり、一般に3つ以上のセグメントがあるのが好ましい。

補助ロッド232は傾斜されているので、補助ロッドは、ロッド230の一方の端部240のロッドセット230の中心軸236よりももう一方の端部238のロッドセット230の中心軸236により近い。補助ロッドは端部240の軸よりも端部238の軸により近いので、端部238の電位は他方の端部240の電位よりも補助ロッドの電位によってより大きく影響を及ぼされる。図36に示されるように結果として、補助ロッドはまっすぐであるので、一方の端から他方の端まで均一に変わる軸電位242となる。補助ロッド232が曲げられるならば、この電位は非線形で変化するように形成することができる。

Claims (4)
- 分析計において、
(a)部材のセットであって、そのセットの部材間に、縦軸を有する容積を画定する部材のセット、
(b)前記部材にRF電圧を印加し、前記縦軸に沿って前記容積を通ってイオンを伝達する手段、および
(c)前記部材に沿って延び、前記縦軸の少なくとも一部に沿って軸電界を確立する手段を有し、
前記部材のセットが1組のロッドを含み、
前記ロッドの各々が、内部表面および外部表面を有する絶縁材料のチューブを備え、前記軸電界を確立する手段が前記外部表面を被覆する抵抗性材料と、前記抵抗性材料に接続された、DC電圧を受けるための一対の端部金属バンドを前記外部表面上に備え、前記チューブが、RFを印加するための該チューブの内部表面を被覆する導電性材料のコーティングを有することを特徴とする分析計。 - 前記ロッドが四重極ロッドセットを形成することを特徴とする請求項1に記載の分析計。
- 前記軸電界がDC電界であることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の分析計。
- 前記容積内に衝突ガスを含み、前記容積内のイオンの衝突冷却あるいは粉砕を生じさせることを特徴とする請求項2に記載の分析計。
