クライアント装置１０２とＢＴＳ２０４の間の無線通信は、符合分割多元接続（ＣＤＭＡ）、時分割多元接続（ＴＤＭＡ）、周波数分割多元接続（ＦＤＭＡ）、移動体通信のための汎欧州デジタル移動電話方式(global system for mobile communications)（ＧＳＭ）、または無線通信ネットワーク内もしくはデータ通信ネットワーク内で使用され得るその他のプロトコルなど、異なる技術に基づくことが可能である。データ通信は、一般に、クライアント装置１０２と、ＢＴＳ２０４と、ＭＳＣ２０２との間である。ＭＳＣ２０２は、キャリアネットワーク２００、ＰＳＴＮ、インターネット、仮想私設ネットワーク(virtual private network)など、複数のデータネットワークに接続されることが可能であり、これにより、クライアント装置がより広い通信ネットワークに接続することを可能にする。前述の説明で議論されたように、音声送信に加えて、データは、ＳＭＳ方法または当技術分野で知られているその他のＯＴＡ方法を経由してクライアント装置に送信され得る。
図３では、前払いアカウントの使用法の１つの例示的な実施形態が示される。このシナリオでは、複数の機能が、トランシーバと、様々な機能を実行するように構成された論理とを含むクライアント装置を含む無線通信システム内で実行される。当業者は、議論される様々な実施形態は非無線通信システム（例えば、陸線電話）内で実施されることも可能である点を理解されよう。
プライマリアカウント３０２は、特定のユーザのために開設される３０２。例えば、プライマリアカウント３０２は、ユーザの移動体電話アカウントに関連する月々の料金および費用を表すことが可能である。プライマリアカウント３０２に加えて、少なくとも１つのセカンダリアカウント３０４も開設され、同じユーザのプライマリアカウントと関連づけられる。この特定の例では、セカンダリアカウント３０４は、プライマリアカウントの所有者がいくつかのその他のサービス（例えば、ゲーミング、データコンテンツ加入など）に関して使用するための前払いアカウントを含むことが可能である。
データコンテンツの配信および使用が音声電話使用より優位を占める実施形態では、当業者は、本発明の精神および範囲から逸脱せずに、プライマリアカウント（例えば、電話）はセカンダリアカウントとして開設されることが可能であり、セカンダリアカウント（例えば、データサービス）はプライマリアカウントとして開設されることが可能である点を理解されよう。この構想は、１つのアカウントは１つの所与のサービスのために使用および応用されることが可能であり、もう１つの個別のアカウントはもう１つの個別のサービスのために使用および応用されることが可能であるということである。
プライマリアカウントおよびセカンダリアカウントの両方に対する料金が管理される。説明を簡単にするために、図３は、セカンダリアカウントの管理を示すが、プライマリアカウントに関して、関連するアカウント管理技術が使用され得る点を理解されよう。セカンダリアカウント３０４に対して起こされる料金は、アカウント値のうちのどの程度が使用または消費されているか、アカウント値のうちのどの程度が残っているかを確認するために監視される３０６。
ユーザは、次いで、請求と突合せて引き出し、セカンダリアカウント３０４内に残った前払い金額を監視することが可能である。セカンダリアカウントの資金が消費されると、ユーザは、さらなる動作が取られるまで、セカンダリアカウントに対する料金をもはや負うことはできない。１つのオプションは、アカウント内に残りの値が存在しない時点で、または利用可能な前払い金額を増やすもしくは当該金額をしきい値レベルまで持ってくるいつか別の時点で、セカンダリアカウント３０８が（所望される場合）補充され得ることである。もう１つのオプションは、無期限に、またはセカンダリアカウントが完全にまたは一部補充されることになる将来の日まで、アカウントが依然として資金供給されないまま残り得ることである。

概念は、プライマリアカウントとは別のセカンダリアカウントが存在し、このセカンダリアカウントは、その特定の無線装置上でアクセス可能ないくつかのその他のタイプのデータサービスに関して追加の料金を供給するために使用されることが可能であるということである。
もう１つの例では、プライマリアカウントは高速データコンテンツ配信システム（例えば、高速インターネット接続）向けの料金に関する。この例では、セカンダリアカウントは、最新チャート機能(advanced charting functions)を用いて、株式または商品の調査業務およびニュース源に対する２０ドルの加入であろう。
当業者は、異なるプライマリアカウントがセカンダリアカウントの異なる順列を用いてセットアップされることが可能であり、逆も同様であり得ることを理解されよう。また、本明細書で提示される本発明の精神および範囲から逸脱せずに、プライマリアカウントに関して使用される第３の、第４の、第５のなどのアカウントも存在し得る。
複数のアカウントの使用は、第三者が複数のアカウントに資金供給し、ユーザに、そうでない場合、ユーザが触れない異なるアプリケーション、データサービスおよびデータコンテンツを紹介することを可能にする。これは、究極のユーザ経験を高め、他者（例えば、ゲーム開発者）が特定のゲームに夢中になることが見込まれるユーザを獲得し、新しい商品販売から将来の収益の流れを生み出す手段を提供する。
もう１つの実施形態では、少なくとも１つのプライマリアカウントおよび少なくとも１つのセカンダリアカウントは、共に連結または関連し、両方のアカウント内のそれぞれのアカウント値は予め決められた方法で(in a predetermined way)管理される。
図４は、本発明の少なくとも１つの実施形態による、一次４００およびセカンダリアカウント４０２を管理する請求マネージャ４０４を例示する図である。請求マネージャ４０４は、請求に関して多くの異なる動作を実行することが可能である。例えば、請求マネージャ４０４は、アカウントを監視し、アカウントを管理し、プライマリアカウント４００とセカンダリアカウント４０２の間のアカウント資金移転を可能にし得る。

  18. 請求アカウントを可能にするためのサーバであって、
    定期ベースで前記請求アカウントに請求された定期的な料金を表す少なくとも１つのプライマリアカウント、を開設するための手段と、
    前記請求アカウントに関して利用可能な前払いサービスの量を表す少なくとも１つのセカンダリアカウント、を開設するための手段と、
    を備えるサーバ。
  19. 月ベースで請求された定期的な料金を処理するための手段、をさらに備える請求項１８に記載のサーバ。
  20. アプリケーションのための前払いサービスの量を処理するための手段、をさらに備える請求項１８に記載のサーバ。
  21. 前記少なくとも１つのプライマリアカウントと前記少なくとも１つのセカンダリアカウントとを結合するための手段と、プライマリアカウント値およびセカンダリアカウント値の両方を予め決められた方法で管理するための手段と、をさらに備える請求項１８に記載のサーバ。
