Den foreliggende opfindelse angår en særegen fremgangsmåde til fremstilling af 2-oxo-l,3-dioxolaner, og fremgangsmåden er af den art, ved hvilken disse forbindelser fremstilles ved omsætning af epoxider med carbondioxid i 5 nærværelse af en katalysator og eventuelt et indifferent opløsningsmiddel.
Det er kendt, at der ved omsætning af alkylenoxider med carbondioxid i nærværelse af katalysatorer kan fås 2-oxo-l,3-dioxolaner (også kaldet alkylencarbonater). I DE 10 offentliggørelsesskrift nr. 2.611.087 beskrives en fremgangsmåde til fremstilling af alkylencarbonater med den almene formel R\ _ _c

o 20 ved hvilken fremgangsmåde et alkylenoxid omsættes med C02 i nærværelse af en katalysator, som består af en kombination af et prot stof med formlen ROH og en nitrogenholdig base, ved temperaturer mellem 0 og 2 00°c og et tryk fra 1 til 98 bar.. Prote stoffer er vand, alkoholer og phenol. Som nitro-25 genholdige baser anføres trimethylamin, triethylamin, pyridin eller dimethylanilin. Med hensyn til substituenterne R, R’, R", R"' anføres det blot alment, at disse kan være hydrogen eller en alkyl-, aryl-, cycloalkyl- eller aralkylgruppe. Nærmere angivelser anføres ikke. I eksemplerne anføres kun 30 ethylenoxid og propylenoxid som alkylenoxider, og der arbejdes hver gang under tryk (mindst 10 bar).
G. Rokicki og medarbejdere beskriver i "Monatshefte flir Chemie" 115. 205-214 (1984) fremstillingen af cycliske carbonater ud fra C02 og oxiraner i nærværelse af alkalime-35 talsalt-faseoverførings-katalysatorer. Som faseoverføringsmidler anvendes der kroneethere, l,4-diazabicyclo[2,2,2]octan 2

(DABCO), Ν,Ν,Ν,Ν-tetramethylethylendiamin (TMEDA) og trieth-ylbenzylammoniumchlorid (TEBA), men også - med forringet udbytte - polyethylenglycol. Høje udbytter, dvs. næsten teoretiske værdier, opnås kun ved begyndelsestryk på 40 5 bar. Når der arbejdes ved 6 bar, opnås der kun et udbytte, der er ca. 25% lavere, og ved 1 bar endda kun 8%'s udbytte.
Som epoxidkomponenter anføres ethylen- og propylenoxid, epihalogenhydriner, glycid, n-butyl-, allyl- og phenylgly-cidether, styrenoxid og 3,3-disubstitueret cyclohexenoxid.
10 Endnu et arbejde af G. Rokicki [Makromol. Chem. 186.
331-337 (1985)] beskriver fremstillingen af cycliske dicar-bonater ved anvendelse af 2,2-bis[4-(2,3-epoxypropoxy)-phe-nyl]propan eller en epoxidharpiks ("Epikote® 828") under de ovenfor anførte betingelser.
15 Det er endvidere kendt (PCT WO 84/03701) at fremstille alkylencarbonater ved at behandle alkylenoxider med C02 i nærværelse af en alkohol, såsom methanol, og en (u-)substitueret phosphinforbindelse som katalysator. Også i dette tilfælde arbejdes der ved forhøjet tryk (21 bar). Desuden 20 fremgår det af offentliggørelsen, at tilstedeværelsen af både alkoholen og phosphinen er nødvendig for at opnå et· godt udbytte.
Der kendes nogle fremgangsmåder til fremstilling af alkylencarbonater ved tryk, der er lavere end 10 bar. I SU 25 patentskrift nr. 165.435, jfr. Chemical Abstracts 62:6396 b/c, er der som katalysator imidlertid kun beskrevet anvendelsen af tetraalkylammoniumhalogenider, medens der ifølge JP-Kokai nr. 57-31682 til dette formål udelukkende anvendes alkalimetalhalogenider. Ifølge JP patentansøgning nr.
30 72.36738, jfr. Chemical Abstracts 77:139417z, anvendes der endvidere kun blandingskatalysatorer såsom blandinger af triphenylphosphin og methyliodid, men derimod ikke f.eks. triphenylphosphin alene.
Som det fremgår af den følgende forsøgsrapport, med-35 fører anvendelsen af de katalysatorer, der benyttes ved fremgangsmåden ifølge den foreliggende opfindelse, og som 3

er nærmere beskrevet i det følgende, en højere aktivitet (højere omsætning pr. tidsenhed) og til dels også en højere selektivitet end anvendelsen af de i SU patentskriftet angivne katalysatorer. Ved "selektivitet" forstås her forholdet 5 mellem bicarbonatindhold og den uønskede, ved carbonatise-ringsreaktionen dannede polymerandel. Disse fordele kunne ikke forudses opnået og må betegnes som overraskende.
Det fra JP-*Kokai nr. 57.31682 kendte adskiller sig væsentligt fra fremgangsmåden ifølge den foreliggende opfin-10 delse som defineret i det følgende. Omend trykket ifølge den japanske offentliggørelse kan ligge mellem 1 og 100 bar, arbejdes der ifølge eksemplerne til opnåelse af acceptable udbytter altid med høje tryk fra 20 til 25 bar; dette kræves ikke ved fremgangsmåden ifølge den foreliggende opfindelse, 15 og der opnås til trods herfor særdeles høje udbytter.
Ved fremgangsmåden ifølge JP skriftet omsættes et alkylenoxid med carbondioxid i nærværelse af et alkalimetal-halogenid. Til fremskyndelse af reaktionen tilsættes desuden et alkylencarbonat, som imidlertid er identisk med slutpro-20 duktet ved reaktionen. Denne arbejdsmåde, hvor en vis mængde af slutproduktet skal være til stede allerede ved omsætnin-· gens begyndelse, undgås ved fremgangsmåden ifølge opfindelsen. Ved anvendelsen som udgangsmateriale af epoxider med højere molekylvægte er imidlertid også viskositeterne af de 25 tilsvarende cycliske carbonater meget høje, og udbytterne, især tids-udbytterne, falder drastisk, således at en sådan fremgangsmåde ikke er interessant i praksis. Fremgangsmåden ifølge JP skriftet er således i modsætning til den nedenfor definerede fremgangsmåde ifølge den foreliggende opfindelse 30 overhovedet kun med fordel anvendelig til lavere epoxider. Heller ikke til fremstilling af partielt carbonatiserede epoxider er den kendte fremgangsmåde velegnet.
Det fremgår således af teknikkens stade, at man for at opnå et højt udbytte altid skal arbejde ved høje tryk, 35 at nærværelsen af et prot stof er nødvendig til opnåelse af tilfredsstillende udbytter og/eller at de kendte metoders se- 4

lektivitet er for lav.
De ovennævnte ulemper kan undgås ved hjælp af fremgangsmåden ifølge den foreliggende opfindelse.
Opfindelsen angår således en særlig fremgangsmåde 5 til fremstilling af 2-oxo-l,3-dioxolaner ved omsætning af de tilsvarende epoxider med carbondioxid i nærværelse af en katalysator og eventuelt et indifferent opløsningsmiddel hvilken fremgangsmåde er ejendommelig ved, at omsætningen udføres ved temperaturer fra 40 til 180“C og ved normaltryk 10 eller svagt forhøjet tryk i nærværelse af mindst én katalysator valgt blandt triphenylphosphan, tritolylphosphan, l,4-diazabicyclo[2,2,2]octan, 4-dimethylaminopyridin, 4--(1-pyrrolidinyl) -pyridin, amidiner, imidazol og (0^04)--alkyl-, aryl- eller aryl-alkyl-substitutionsprodukter af 15 imidazol.
Fordelen ved fremgangsmåden ifølge opfindelsen er bl.a. anvendelsen af normaltryk eller et svagt forhøjet tryk, jfr. nærmere herom nedenfor, hvorved der ikke kræves store udgifter til apparater. Desuden skal reaktionens høje 20 selektivitet fremhæves, dvs. der indtræder praktisk taget ingen epoxid-sidereaktioner, såsom homopolymerisation, så~ ledes som de beskrives ved denne reaktionsmekanisme i den kendte teknik. Endvidere er det ved hjælp af fremgangsmåden muligt at fremstille opbevaringsstabile epoxid/carbonatblan-25 dinger, der udviser en multi funktional itet og kan benyttes til mange anvendelsesformål.
Det tryk, der anvendes ved fremgangsmåden ifølge opfindelsen, ligger på 1-10, fortrinsvis 1-5 og især på 1-3 bar. I de fleste tilfælde anvendes der normaltryk, men even-30 tuelt kan der dog også arbejdes under forhøjet tryk. Det foretrukne temperaturområde ved fremgangsmåden ligger ved 50-160“C, især 60-145"C.
Den tidligere omtalte sammenligning med SU patentskrift nr. 165.435 (forsøgsrapport) har givet følgende re-35 sultater: I et 1 liters røreapparat, der er udstyret med ter- 5

mometer, gastilledningsrør og en tilbagesvalingskøler, anbringes der en opløsning (epoxidindhold: 7,7%) af 600 dele af en handelsgængs epoxidharpiks på basis af en diglycidyl-ether af bisphenol A (epoxidindhold: 8,6%, indhold af gly-5 cidylether: 87,1%, polymerindhold: 12,9%) i 67 dele digly-coldimethylether, og der tilsættes hver gang 1,2 dele katalysator. Derpå tilledes der carbondioxid ved 120°C under omrøring. Efter 12 timer afsluttes reaktionen i hvert forsøg, og produktblandingen analyseres gelchromatografisk.
10 Omrøringshastigheden, fyldhøjden, carbondioxidstrømmen og neddypningsdybden for gastilledningen holdes konstant ved alle forsøgene. Resultaterne fremgår af den følgende tabel.

polyvalente phenoler indeholdende en eller flere aromatiske kerner med alkylenoxider, som har 2-4 carbonatomer, og po-lyglycidylethere af alkoholiske polyhydroxylforbindelser, som har en eller flere alicycliske ringe. Som phenoler kan 5 f.eks. anvendes phenol, de forskellige cresoler, resorcinol, hydroquinon, pyrogallol, phloroglucin, 1,5-, 2,7-, og 2,6--dihydroxynaphthalener, 2,2-bis-(p-hydroxyphenyl)-propan og -methan (kendt som bisphenol A og F) og 2,41-dihydroxydi-phenylmethan. Polyvalente alkoholer, som kan omsættes til 10 glycidylethere, er f.eks. ethylenglycol, propylenglycol, butylenglycol, neopentylenglycol, hexylenglycol, polyethylen-glycol og polypropylenglycol. Hertil regnes også plastifice-rede epoxidharpikser med endestillede epoxygrupper, som fremstilles ved partiel omsætning af epoxygruppeme i epoxid-15 harpikser, der indeholder mindst to epoxygrupper med OH- og COOH-holdige stoffer, såsom polyvalente alkoholer, f.eks. de ovennævnte dioler, polycarboxylsyrer eller carboxyl- eller OH-gruppeholdige polyestere.
Yderligere epoxyforbindelser er glycidylestere af 20 mættede eller ethylenisk umættede carboxylsyrer med mindst én substitueret eller ikke-substitueret glycidylestergruppe med formlen

En yderst brugbar glycidylester fås 35 i handelen og er glycidylesteren af en blanding af mættede monocarboxylsyrer med en kædelængde på 9-11 carbonatomer, bestående hovedsagelig (ca. 94%) af tertiære syrer (versa-tinsyreglycidylester). som fås ved copolymer isat ion af glycidylmethacrylsyreester med andre copolymeriserbare monomere, såsom styren og (meth-)acrylsyreestere. Endvidere er amid- eller urethan-gruppeholdige epoxider egnet til reaktionen, f.eks. trigly-5 cidylisocyanurat eller med glycidol maskeret hexamethylen-diisocyanat. Blandinger af de nævnte epoxidforbindelser kan også anvendes.
De ved fremgangsmåden ifølge opfindelsen anvendte katalysatorer er f.eks. phosphaner (tidligere kaldet phos-10 phiner) valgt blandt triphenylphosphan og tritolylphosphan. Yderligere katalysatorer er l,4-diazabicyclo[2,2,2]octan (DABCO), 4-dimethylaminopyridin (DMAP), 4-(l-pyrrolidinyl)-pyridin, amidiner, såsom l,5-diaza-bicyclo[4,3,0]non-5-en (DBN) og l,8-diazabicyclo[5,4,0]undec-7-en (DBU) samt imid-15 azol, og denne forbindelses alkylsubstitutionsprodukter i 1-, 2-, 4- og 5-stillingen med indtil 4 carbonatomer i alkyl-gruppen, såsom 1-methylimidazol, 2-methylimidazol og 2-ethyl- 4-methylimidazol, og aryl- og aryl-alkylsubstituerede imid-azoler såsom 2-phenylimidazol og 2-phenyl-4-methylimidazol.
20 Katalysatorerne anvendes i reglen alene eller i blan ding i mængder på 0,02-10, fortrinsvis 0,05-6 og især 0,05-3-vægt%, beregnet på vægten af epoxidkomponenten.
Reaktionstiden kan variere inden for vide grænser. I reglen udføres reaktionen således, at epoxidgrupperne omsæt-25 tes praktisk taget fuldstændigt. Reaktionen følges f.eks. ved titrering af epoxidgrupperne og afbrydes på det tidspunkt, der inden for analysenøjagtighedens rammer anses for "epoxidgruppefattig eller -fri". På denne måde fås alkylcar-bonater af vilkårlige epoxidforbindelser, der kan viderefor-30 arbejdes på kendt måde.
Desuden kan reaktionen, når der foreligger polyepoxi-der, afbrydes på ethvert ønsket tidspunkt, så at der opnås forbindelser, som foruden carbonatgrupper stadig har intakte epoxidgrupper. Dette har den fordel, at der alt efter den 35 ønskede videreoparbejdnings art og produkternes anvendelse kan ske en selektiv omsætning af epoxidgruppen foruden car- 9

bonatgruppen og omvendt. I reglen gennemføres reaktionen med polyepoxider (antallet af epoxidgrupper n >2) i så fald således, at andelen af omsatte epoxidgrupper er 0,1-0,9 n.
Man kan forbedre katalysatorernes virkning, når der 5 som cokatalysatorer tilsættes halogenider eller carbonater af alkali- eller jordalkalimetaller i mængder på 0,1-10, fortrinsvis 0,2-5 og især 0,4-2,5 vægt%, beregnet på epoxid-komponenterne. Hertil kan anvendes chlorider, bromider, iodider eller carbonater af metallerne lithium, natrium, 10 kalium, magnesium og calcium, idet Kl og Nal foretrækkes. Cokatalysatorerne anvendes dog i reglen kun, når der ønskes en reaktivitetsforøgelse, og når de desuden ikke påvirker anvendeligheden uønsket og kan fraskilles ved hjælp af simple operationer.
15 Epoxidforbindelsernes omsætning roed C02 kan ske med eller uden opløsningsmidler. I reglen anvendes intet opløsningsmiddel, når epoxidforbindelserne over 50°C forekommer i flydende tilstand. Hvis de derimod ved reaktionstemperaturen udgør sejtflydende smelter og således vanskeliggør en 20 homogen fordeling af carbondioxidet ved omrøring, eller hvis en videreoparbejdning af reaktionsproduktet skal foregå-i opløsning, anvendes i reglen opløsningsmidler.
Som opløsningsmidler kan der anvendes aromatiske carbonhydrider, såsom toluen, xylen eller ved jordoliekrak-25 ning forekommende carbonhydridblandinger, endvidere ethere, såsom dioxan, tetrahydrofuran, glycol- og diglycoldimethyl-ether og andre over for epoxygrupper inaktive opløsningsmidler.
Fremgangsmåden ifølge opfindelsen belyses nærmere i 30 de følgende eksempler, hvor T betyder vægtdele, og % er vægt%.

Eksempler
Generel anvisning på fremstilling af biscarbonater ud fra diqlvcidvlethere af bisphenol A. eksempel 1-22« 5 I et med omrører, termometer og gastilførselsrør udstyret apparatur (eventuelt trykapparatur) påfyldes en teknisk diglycidylether af bisphenol A med det i tabellen anførte epoxidindhold, eventuelt opløst i det anførte opløsningsmiddel, og efter tilsætning af katalysatoren og even-10 tuelt cokatalysatoren opvarmes under omrøring og tilledning af carbondioxid til den anførte reaktionstemperatur. Når der arbejdes under tryk, udskylles reaktionsapparaturet i forvejen med carbondioxid. Som glycidylether anvendes "Beckopox® EP 140" (epoxidindhold 8,6%) og "Beckopox® EP 15 310” (epoxidindhold 3,3%) fra Hoechst AG.
Under fortsat tilledning af carbondioxid omrøres der ved de nævnte reaktionstemperaturer og -tryk indtil det ønskede restepoxidindhold, som opnås ved titrering. Derpå varmfiltreres der ved anvendelse af uopløselige katalysato-20 rer, og forekommende opløsningsmiddel af destilleres under formindsket tryk.
I eksemplerne 1-4 beskrives fremstillingen af car-bonatgruppe-holdige epoxidharpikser ved hjælp af delvis omsætning af diglycidylethere af bisphenol A. Eksemplerne 25 21 og 22 er sammenligningsforsøg ifølge den kendte teknik.

Efter tilsætning af 0,1 vægtdel 4-dimethylaminopyridin tilsættes portionsvis 44 20 vægtdele phthalsyreanhydrid. Når der er nået et syretal på 40, sættes der til reaktionsblandingen 118 vægtdele af en· teknisk diglycidylether af bisphenol-A-typen ("Beckopox® EP 140", epoxidindhold: 8,6%) og 0,3 vægtdele chrom-II-octoat, og der opvarmes til 110°C. Når syretallet 1 er opnået, op-25 varmes der efter tilsætning af 0,5 vægtdele 4-dimethylaminopyridin og under tilledning af carbondioxid til 120'C og omrøres indtil et epoxidindhold på <0,05%. Udbytte: 550 vægtdele af en klar viskos harpiksopløsning, epoxidindhold: 0,04%, indhold af bundet co2: 2,0%).

Undersøgelsen viser tydeligt selektiviteten ved frem-10 gangsmåden ifølge opfindelsen til omsætning af epoxidforbin-delser med C02. Medens herved polymerandelen i forhold til det anvendte tekniske epoxids forbliver praktisk taget uforandret, stiger polymerindholdet ved anvendelse af triethyl-amin som katalysator til 66,2%, beregnet på den samlede 15 masse.
Dersom tilsætningen af triethylamin forhøjes, f.eks. til 3% som i eksempel 22 (sammenligning 2) , gelerer reaktionsblandingen efter én times reaktion.

1. Fremgangsmåde til fremstilling af 2-oxo-l,3-dioxo-laner ved omsætning af de tilsvarende epoxider med carbondioxid i nærværelse af en katalysator og eventuelt et indif- 5 ferent opløsningsmiddel, kendetegnet ved, at omsætningen udføres ved temperaturer fra 40 til 180°C og ved normaltryk eller svagt forhøjet tryk i nærværelse af mindst én katalysator valgt blandt triphenylphosphan, tri-tolylphosphan, l,4-diazabicyclo[2/2,2]octan/ 4-dimethylamino-10 pyridin, 4-(1-pyrrolidinyl)-pyridin, amidiner, imidazol og (Ci-C4)-alkyl-, aryl- eller aryl-alkylsubstitutionsprodukter af imidazol.
2. Fremgangsmåde ifølge krav 1, kendete g-15 net ved, at der arbejdes ved et tryk på 1-5 bar.
