■ Die in jedem Einzelfall zu wählende, bestimmte, freie Radikale erzeugende Verbindung hängt von der Temperatur ab, bei der die Reaktion des Polyolefins mit dem Silan stattfindet. Wird diese Umsetzung z. B. bei 190 bis 200° C durchgeführt, so ist Dicumylperoxyd, welches bei dieser Temperatur eine Halbwertszeit von etwa 15 Sekunden aufweist, geeignet. Wird die Umsetzung des Gemisches z. B. bei 1500C durchgeführt, so sollte ein Peroxyd. wie Benzoylperoxyd, das bei dieser Temperatur eine zweckentsprechende Halbwertszeit aufweist, verwendet werden. Die Menge der freie Radikale erzeugenden Verbindung, die zur Anwendung gelangt, schwankt etwas, und zwar je nach der Natur des PoIy-
In den Fällen, in denen es möglich ist das silanmodifiziert«· Polyolefin in wasserfreiem Zustand zu halten, kann die Einverleibung eines Silanol-Kondensationskatalysators durch Einmischen vor der Lagerung zur Bildung eines Produktes von ausreichender Stabilität führen. Entsprechend kann in den Fällen, in denen ein lagerstabiles Produkt nicht angestrebt wird, die Verwendung eines Silans oder eines anderen Additives, das einen Silanol-Kondensationskatalysator in situ während der Hydrolyse erzeugt als zulässig oder sogar als empfehlenswert angesehen werden. Im allgemeinen ist es jedoch vorzuziehen, einen der Silanol-Kondensationskatalysatoren Metallcarboxylate, einer Organometallverbindung, einer organischen Base oder einer Säurein das Produkt der Stufe (A) nur dann einzuarbeiten, wenn beabsichtigt ist die Vernetzung des Polyolefins zu initiieren, beispielsweise kurz vor der Verformung des Polyolefins zum gewünschten Formartikei. Gemäß einer bevorzugten Arbeitsweise zur Durchführung der vorliegenden Erfindung wird die vernetzungsfähige Polyolefinmasse in Form von zwei separaten Komponenten zubereitet wobei die eine Komponente aus dem silanmodifizierten Polyolefin besteht, während die andere Komponente aus einer Masse besteht, die durch Vermischen eines der Silanol-Kondensationskatalysatoren Metallcarboxylat, einer Organometallverbindung, einer
Schneckengeschwindigkeit 31 U/Min.
Mustersiuike der vernetzten Platten wurden auf ihre Widerstandsfähigkeit gegen Rißbildung durch Dauerbeanspruchung nach der ASTM-Vcrschrift Nr. D 1693-59 T (in Alkylarylpolyäthylenglykol bei 500C) getestet Wie festgestellt wurde, war nach 5000 Stunden noch kein Bruch eingetreten, wohingegen ein unvernetztes Polyäthylen (Schmelzindex 0,90 g/lOMin.; Dich- ' te 0360 g/cm3) nach 24 Stunden Brüche aufwies. ■
Durchsatz 4,76 kg/Std.
