Abstract

El óxido de magnesio (MgO) formado en un compuesto en un polímero puede posteriormente ser hidratado en el sitio dentro del polímero para formar hidróxido de magnesio. En el caso de resinas que se pueden reticular basadas en silano o peróxido, la hidratación del MgO y la reticulación del polímero se pueden hacer en un solo paso del proceso, o en pasos consecutivos. En el caso de compuestos que no se pueden reticular, la hidratación se puede llevar a cabo después de formar el compuesto (sin paso de reticulación). En todos los casos, el vapor CV, el sauna, o baño de agua caliente son opciones para hidratación. Este método hace posible la preparación de los compuestos del polímero que son retardantes de flama con hidratos de metal todavía libres de la limitaciones tradicionales impuestas por la inestabilidad en el almacén, el quemado en la extrusión, la deshidratación no deseada, y las limitaciones de temperatura de procesamiento de los hidratos de metal.
