Definitions
- the present invention relates to a photoalignable polymer, a binder composition, a binder layer, an optical laminate, a method for producing the optical laminate, and an image display device.
- Optical films such as optical compensation sheets and retardation films are used in various image display devices from the viewpoint of eliminating image coloring and widening the viewing angle.
- a stretched birefringent film has been used as the optical film, but recently, it has been proposed to use an optically anisotropic layer using a liquid crystal compound instead of the stretched birefringent film.
- optically anisotropic layer is provided with an alignment film on a support on which the optically anisotropic layer is formed in order to align a liquid crystal compound.
- a photo-alignment film subjected to a photo-alignment process is known.
- Patent Document 1 discloses a liquid crystal alignment layer formed from a thermosetting film-forming composition containing an acrylic copolymer having a photodimerization site such as a cinnamoyl group and a crosslinking agent ([claims 1] [Claim 3] [Claim 11] [0028]).
- the inventors of the present invention more quickly provide an optical laminate having a liquid crystal alignment layer described in Patent Document 1 and the like, and an optically anisotropic layer provided on the upper layer and formed using a polymerizable liquid crystal composition.
- a known fluorosurfactant is used for forming the liquid crystal alignment layer, the coating property is improved and the film thickness unevenness (hereinafter referred to as “wind”)
- the applicability of the composition for the optically anisotropic layer provided on the upper layer of the formed liquid crystal alignment layer hereinafter referred to as “unevenness” can also be suppressed.
- upper layer coatability or the orientation of the formed optically anisotropic layer (hereinafter also referred to as “liquid crystal orientation”) may be inferior.
- the present invention is a photo-alignment polymer and a binder that are excellent in coating properties, can suppress film thickness unevenness, have excellent upper layer coating properties, and have good liquid crystal alignment properties after being formed as a layer. It is an object of the present invention to provide a composition, a binder layer, an optical laminate, a method for producing the optical laminate, and an image display device.
- the present inventors have a repeating unit containing a cleavage group in the side chain that decomposes by the action of light or the like to generate a polar group, and the side of the cleavage group
- a photoalignable polymer having a fluorine or silicon atom on the chain end side and further having a photoalignable group so as to satisfy a predetermined condition is blended, the coating property is excellent, and film thickness unevenness can be suppressed. It was found that after being formed as a layer, the upper layer coating property was excellent and the liquid crystal orientation was also improved, and the present invention was completed. That is, it has been found that the above-described problem can be achieved by the following configuration.
- a photoalignable polymer having a repeating unit A containing a cleavage group that decomposes by at least one action selected from the group consisting of light, heat, acid, and base to generate a polar group
- the repeating unit A has a cleavage group in the side chain, and has a fluorine atom or a silicon atom on the terminal side of the cleavage group in the side chain, A photo-alignment polymer that satisfies the following condition 1 or condition 2.

液晶表示装置に利用される液晶セルは、VA(Virtical Alignment)モード、OCB(Optically Compensated Bend)モード、IPS(In-Plane-Switching)モード、またはTN(Twisted Nematic)であることが好ましいが、これらに限定されるものではない。
また、PVA(Patterned Vertical Alignment)型、光配向型(Optical Alignment)、およびPSA(Polymer-Sustained Alignment)のいずれであってもよい。
