[0069]射出成形:棒状引張試験片は、標準的なISO条件にしたがって、ISO−527−1仕様に射出成形した。温度は、(後部からノズルへ)313℃、316℃、321℃、及び317℃であり、135℃の金型温度及び275mm/秒の射出速度を用いた。

[0080]2Lのフラスコに、HBA(547g)、TA(139.8g)、BP(150.6g)、IA(79.5g)、HQ(56.3g)、及び20mgの酢酸カリウムを充填した。次に、フラスコに、C形状のスターラー、熱電対、ガス入口、及び蒸留ヘッドを装備した。フラスコを低窒素パージ下に配置し、無水酢酸(分析値99.7%、692.7g)を加えた。乳白色のスラリーを75rpmで撹拌し、流動化砂浴を用いて140℃に95分間かけて加熱した。この時間の後、混合物を300分間かけて徐々に一定速度で350℃に加熱した。反応系が140℃を超えると還流が見られ、酢酸副生成物を系から除去するにつれて塔頂温度は約115℃に上昇した。加熱中において、混合物は黄色で僅かにより粘稠になり、蒸気温度は徐々に90℃に低下した。混合物が350℃に達したら、窒素流を停止した。フラスコを20psiより低い圧力で排気し、45分間かけて撹拌を30rpmに遅くした。真空下での時間が進行するにつれて、混合物は粘稠になった。33分後、最終真空工程において、撹拌機モーターに対する緊張によって示されるようにトルク(20インチ/オンス)が記録された。次に、真空を解放し、反応器への熱流を停止することによって反応を停止した。フラスコを冷却し、次にポリマーを固体の緻密な黄褐色の栓状物として回収した。機械的寸法減少によって分析試験のための試料を得た。
[0081]ここに記載する液晶ポリマーを用いて組成物を形成した。非HNA液晶ポリマー(LCP)配合物は,上記の実施例1又は実施例2に記載のようにして形成することができる。HNDを含むLCPは、ここに記載するような標準的な技術にしたがって形成することができる。配合材料は、切断ガラス繊維(13ミクロン、切断長4mm、Owens Corningから入手できるOCV(登録商標))、及び滑剤(Allendale, New JerseyのLonza, Inc.から入手できる商業グレードのペンタエリトリトールテトラステアレートGlycolube(登録商標)P)を含んでいた。組成物を形成するために、形成の後、配合の前にポリマーを275℃において4時間乾燥した。全ての原材料を共回転二軸押出機(直径70mm、32L/D)に加え、ガラス繊維添加点は樹脂添加点の下流であった。プロセス条件は、それぞれのシステムに関してポリマー溶融点、粘度等に基づいて設定した。配合した材料を、水浴を用いてストランド化し、ペレット化した。得られたペレットを130℃において一晩乾燥し、試験に関して記載したように射出成形した。
[0084]増加した量のガラス繊維を含む組成物を用いて、液晶ポリマー及び組成物を形成した。非HNA液晶ポリマー(LCP)配合物は上記の実施例1又は実施例2に記載のようにして形成することができる。配合及び試験結果を下表3に与える。示されるように、比較ポリマーと比べてナフテン酸を含まない液晶ポリマーに関して、ガラス繊維装填量を増加させると、引張弾性率において約19.9MPaの増加、及び曲げ弾性率において約17.4の増加があった。これは更に、弾性率における増加は液晶ポリマー中のナフテン酸の欠落によるものであるという理解を裏付けている。
[0085]液晶ポリマーを用い、添加剤としてミルドガラスファイバーを用いて組成物を形成した。非HNA液晶ポリマー(LCP)配合物は、上記の実施例1又は実施例2に記載のようにして形成することができる。ガラス繊維添加剤は次の通りであった。
ガラス繊維(2):直径13±1.5ミクロン、平均長70ミクロン(Owens Corningから入手できるOCV(登録商標)Rev4)。
[0088]記載されている材料及び方法を用いて液晶ポリマー組成物を形成した。次に、この組成物を用いて上記に記載した射出成形棒状試験片を形成した。配合及び試験結果を下表5にまとめる。

[請求項1]
溶融重合した全芳香族(wholly aromatic)液晶ポリマー及び繊維状充填材を含み、ナ
フテン酸から誘導される液晶ポリマー中の繰り返し単位の合計量は約5モル%以下であり
、液晶ポリマー中の繰り返し単位は、イソフタル酸、ヒドロキノン、及び少なくとも1種
類のヒドロキシカルボン酸を含み、ポリマー組成物は、ISO試験No.178にしたが
って23℃において測定して約10,000メガパスカルより高い曲げ弾性率を有する、
サーモトロピック液晶ポリマー組成物。

イソフタル酸とヒドロキノンとの比が約1:2〜約2:1である、請求項1に記載のサ
ーモトロピック液晶ポリマー組成物。
[請求項3]
液晶ポリマーが芳香族ポリエステルである、請求項1又は請求項2に記載のサーモトロ
ピック液晶ポリマー組成物。
[請求項4]
液晶ポリマー中の繰り返し単位が、N−アセチル−4−アミノフェニル、及び/又はテ
レフタル酸、及び/又は4,4’−ジヒドロキシビフェニルを更に含み、及び/又はナフ
テン酸から誘導されるポリマー中の繰り返し単位の合計量が約2モル%以下である、請求
項1〜3のいずれかに記載のサーモトロピック液晶ポリマー組成物。
[請求項5]
ヒドロキノンから誘導される繰り返し単位が液晶ポリマーの約1モル%〜約25モル%
を構成し、又はイソフタル酸から誘導される繰り返し単位が液晶ポリマーの約1モル%〜
約30モル%を構成し、或いはヒドロキシカルボン酸が4−ヒドロキシ安息香酸である、
請求項1〜4のいずれかに記載のサーモトロピック液晶ポリマー組成物。
[請求項6]
液晶ポリマーが、約1モル%〜約5モル%のイソフタル酸から誘導されるモノマー単位
、約1モル%〜約5モル%のヒドロキノンから誘導されるモノマー単位、約30モル%〜
約90モル%の4−ヒドロキシ安息香酸から誘導されるモノマー単位、約5モル%〜約5
0モル%のテレフタル酸から誘導されるモノマー単位、約1モル%〜約20モル%の4,
4’−ジヒドロキシビフェニルから誘導されるモノマー単位、及び約2モル%〜約15モ
ル%のN−アセチル−4−アミノフェニルから誘導されるモノマー単位を含む、請求項1
〜5のいずれかに記載のサーモトロピック液晶ポリマー組成物。
[請求項7]
液晶ポリマーがナフテンヒドロキシカルボン酸から誘導される単位を含まず、及び/又
は液晶ポリマーがナフテン酸から誘導される単位を含まない、請求項1〜6のいずれかに
記載のサーモトロピック液晶ポリマー組成物。
[請求項8]
繊維状充填材が、チョップドガラスファイバー又はミルドガラスファイバーのようなガ
ラス繊維を含む、請求項1〜7のいずれかに記載のサーモトロピック液晶ポリマー組成物
。
[請求項9]
無機充填材、滑剤、レーザー活性化可能な添加剤、又は流動性改良剤を更に含む、請求
項1〜8のいずれかに記載のサーモトロピック液晶ポリマー組成物。
[請求項10]
ポリマー組成物が次の特性:
・ISO試験No.178にしたがって23℃において測定して約225メガパスカル
より高い曲げ強さ;
・ISO試験No.527にしたがって23℃において測定して約150メガパスカル
より高い引張り強さ;
・ISO試験No.527にしたがって23℃において測定して約15,000メガパ
スカルより高い引張弾性率;
・ISO試験No.179−1にしたがって23℃において測定して約30kJ/m2
より高いノッチ付きシャルピー衝撃強さ;
・ISO試験No.75−2にしたがって1.8メガパスカルの規定荷重において測定
して約260℃より高い荷重撓み温度;
の1以上を有する、請求項1〜9のいずれかに記載のサーモトロピック液晶ポリマー組成
物。
[請求項11]
請求項1〜10のいずれかに記載の液晶ポリマー組成物で形成される射出成形物品。
[請求項12]
請求項1〜10のいずれかに記載の液晶ポリマー組成物を含む、無線電子機器、ラップ
トップコンピューター、電気コネクター、又は金属化導電性部材。
Claims (11)
- 全芳香族(wholly aromatic)液晶ポリマー及び繊維状充填材を含むサーモトロピック
液晶ポリマー組成物であって、当該液晶ポリマーは、イソフタル酸から誘導される1モル
%〜30モル%の繰り返し単位、ヒドロキノンから誘導される1モル%〜25モル%の繰
り返し単位、4−ヒドロキシ安息香酸から誘導される60モル%〜70モル%の繰り返し
単位、テレフタル酸から誘導される5モル%〜15モル%の繰り返し単位、及び4,4’
−ジヒドロキシビフェニルから誘導される1モル%〜15モル%の繰り返し単位を含み、
当該ポリマー中のイソフタル酸とヒドロキノンとのモル比が1:1.07〜5:8であり
、当該ポリマー組成物は、ISO試験No.178にしたがって23℃において測定して
19,000メガパスカルより高い曲げ弾性率を有する、前記液晶ポリマー組成物。 - ナフテン酸から誘導される繰り返し単位の液晶ポリマー中の合計量が5モル%以下であ
る、請求項1に記載のサーモトロピック液晶ポリマー組成物。 - 液晶ポリマーが芳香族ポリエステルである、請求項1又は請求項2に記載のサーモトロ
ピック液晶ポリマー組成物。 - 液晶ポリマー中の繰り返し単位が、N−アセチル−4−アミノフェニルを更に含み、及
び/又はナフテン酸から誘導されるポリマー中の繰り返し単位の合計量が2モル%以下で
ある、請求項1〜3のいずれかに記載のサーモトロピック液晶ポリマー組成物。 - イソフタル酸から誘導される繰り返し単位が液晶ポリマーの1モル%〜7.27モル%
を構成する、請求項1〜4のいずれかに記載のサーモトロピック液晶ポリマー組成物。 - 液晶ポリマーがナフテンヒドロキシカルボン酸から誘導される単位を含まず、及び/又
は液晶ポリマーがナフテン酸から誘導される単位を含まない、請求項1〜5のいずれかに
記載のサーモトロピック液晶ポリマー組成物。 - 繊維状充填材が、チョップドガラスファイバー又はミルドガラスファイバーのようなガ
ラス繊維を含む、請求項1〜6のいずれかに記載のサーモトロピック液晶ポリマー組成物
。 - 無機充填材、滑剤、レーザー活性化可能な添加剤、又は流動性改良剤を更に含む、請求
項1〜7のいずれかに記載のサーモトロピック液晶ポリマー組成物。 - ポリマー組成物が次の特性:
・ISO試験No.178にしたがって23℃において測定して225メガパスカルよ
り高い曲げ強さ;
・ISO試験No.527にしたがって23℃において測定して150メガパスカルよ
り高い引張り強さ;
・ISO試験No.527にしたがって23℃において測定して15,000メガパス
カルより高い引張弾性率;
・ISO試験No.179−1にしたがって23℃において測定して30kJ/m2よ
り高いノッチ付きシャルピー衝撃強さ;
・ISO試験No.75−2にしたがって1.8メガパスカルの規定荷重において測定
して260℃より高い荷重撓み温度;
の1以上を有する、請求項1〜8のいずれかに記載のサーモトロピック液晶ポリマー組成
物。 - 請求項1〜9のいずれかに記載の液晶ポリマー組成物で形成される射出成形物品。
