액세서리를 인증하는 방법 및 시스템{METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR AUTHENTICATING AN ACCESSORY}
본 발명은 전반적으로 전기 디바이스(device)에 관한 것으로, 보다 구체적으로는 액세서리(accessory) 디바이스와 통신하는 미디어 플레이어(media player)와 같은 전자 디바이스에 관한 것이다.
미디어 플레이어는 미디어 플레이어 상에서 재생되거나 디스플레이되는 오디오 트랙(audio track) 또는 포토(photo)와 같은 미디어 자산(media asset)을 저장한다. 미디어 플레이어의 일 예는 미국 캘리포니아 큐퍼티노(Cupertino) 소재의 애플사(Apple Inc.)로부터 입수가능한 iPodTM 미디어 플레이어이다. 종종, 미디어 플레이어는 사용자가 미디어 자산을 관리하는 것을 가능하게 하는 호스트 컴퓨터로부터 그 미디어 자산을 획득한다. 일 예로서, 호스트 컴퓨터는 미디어 관리 애플리케이션을 실행하여 미디어 자산을 관리할 수 있다. 미디어 관리 애플리케이션의 일 예는 애플사에서 제조되는 iTunes®, 버전(version) 6.0이다.

도킹 커넥터( Docking Connector )

도킹 커넥터 사양

인증서
표준 인증서는 인증서 생성자(발행인, 국가 등), 인증서 타입, 유효 인증서 날짜 범위 및 기타 메타데이터와 같은 데이터의 컨테이너(container)로서 기능한다. 인증서(Authentication certificate, certificate, cert)는 하나 이상의 인증국(cerificate authority, CA)에 의해서 생성되고 서명되며, 특유의 일련번호를 가진다. 일 실시예에서, 인증서는 액세서리의 인증 코프로세서(coprocessor) 칩에 저장될 수 있을 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 인증서는 표준 인증서로서의 메타데이터뿐만 아니라, 디바이스 클래스 정보(device class information) 및 공개 키 또한 포함하며, 이것은 아래에서 보다 상세히 기술될 것이다.

    인증 동작을 실행하여 상기 액세서리 장치를 인증하는 단계와,

  13. 복수의 미디어 플레이어 애플리케이션 기능을 작동시키는 복수의 애플리케이션 커맨드를 정의하는 미디어 플레이어 액세서리 프로토콜에 따라 미디어 플레이어와 상호작용하는 액세서리 장치에 의해서 수행되는 방법으로서,
    인증 동작을 수행하여 상기 미디어 플레이어를 인증하는 단계와,
    상기 인증 동작 동안에, 상기 복수의 미디어 플레이어 애플리케이션 기능 중 하나를 작동시키기 위해 상기 미디어 플레이어에 상기 미디어 플레이어 프로토콜의 상기 복수의 애플리케이션 커맨드 중 하나를 전송하는 단계;
    상기 인증 동작이 성공적으로 완료되었는지, 혹은 실패하였는지를 판정하는 단계와,
    상기 인증 동작이 성공적으로 완료된 경우에, 상기 복수의 미디어 플레이어 애플리케이션 기능 중 후속 기능을 동작시키기 위해 상기 미디어 플레이어에 상기 복수의 애플리케이션 커맨드 중 후속 커맨드를 전송하는 단계; 및
    상기 인증 동작이 실패한 경우에, 상기 액세서리 장치에 의해 전송된 후속 애플리케이션 커맨드는 상기 미디어 플레이어에 의해 무시되는 단계
    를 포함하는 방법.
  14. 미디어 플레이어로서,
    미디어 자산(media asset)을 저장하도록 구성되는 저장 장치와,
    상기 저장되는 미디어 자산에 액세스하기 위한 적어도 하나의 애플리케이션을 실행하도록 구성되는 제어 모듈과,
    복수의 미디어 플레이어 애플리케이션 기능을 동작시키기 위한 복수의 애플리케이션 커맨드를 정의하는 미디어 플레이어 액세서리 프로토콜에 따라 액세서리 장치와 커맨드 및 연관된 데이터를 교환하도록 구성되는 인터페이스와,
    상기 인터페이스 및 상기 제어 모듈에 결합되고, 상기 인터페이스가 커맨드 및 데이터를 상기 액세서리 장치와 교환하게 동작하도록 구성되는 커맨드 모듈을 포함하고,
    상기 액세서리 장치와 교환되는 커맨드는 상기 액세서리 장치를 인증하기 위해 인증 동작에서 이용가능한 하나 이상의 인증 커맨드 및 상기 제어 모듈에 의해서 상기 애플리케이션 중 적어도 하나의 실행을 제어하기 위해 이용가능한 하나 이상의 애플리케이션 커맨드를 포함하고,
    상기 커맨드 모듈은,
    상기 액세서리 장치로부터 상기 미디어 플레이어 액세서리 프로토콜의 상기 복수의 애플리케이션 커맨드 중 적어도 하나를 수신하고, 상기 인증 동작이 진행중인 동안 상기 애플리케이션 커맨드를 상기 제어 모듈에 전달하고 - 상기 수신된 애플리케이션 커맨드에 응답해서, 상기 제어 모듈은 상기 복수의 미디어 플레이어 애플리케이션 기능 중 하나를 동작시킴 -,
    상기 인증 동작이 상기 액세서리 장치의 인증에 실패한 것으로 종결된 경우에는 상기 액세서리 장치로부터 애플리케이션 커맨드를 수신하는 것을 중단하도록 구성되는, 미디어 플레이어.
  15. 제14항에 있어서,
    상기 인증 커맨드는,
    상기 미디어 플레이어에서 상기 액세서리 장치로 인증서를 요청하는 커맨드와,
    상기 액세서리 장치에서 상기 미디어 플레이어로 상기 인증서를 반환하는 커맨드를 포함하는 미디어 플레이어.
  16. 제15항에 있어서,
    상기 인증 커맨드는,
    상기 미디어 플레이어에서 상기 액세서리 장치로, 상기 액세서리 장치가 커맨드와 연관된 데이터로서 제공되는 랜덤 챌린지에 디지털 방식으로 서명할 것을 요청하는 커맨드와,
    상기 액세서리 장치에서 상기 미디어 플레이어로 서명된 챌린지를 반환하는 커맨드를 더 포함하는 미디어 플레이어.
  17. 제14항에 있어서,
    상기 커맨드 모듈은, 상기 인증 동작이 상기 액세서리 장치의 인증에 실패한 것으로 종결된 경우 상기 액세서리 장치로부터 수신된 애플리케이션 커맨드를 삭제하도록 더 구성되는, 미디어 플레이어.
  18. 제14항에 있어서,
    상기 커맨드 모듈은, 상기 인증 동작 동안에 상기 액세서리 장치로부터 수신된 애플리케이션 커맨드의 처리를 취소하기 위해 상기 제어 모듈에 신호하도록 더 구성되고, 상기 처리는, 상기 인증 동작이 상기 액세서리 장치의 인증에 실패한 것으로 종결된 경우, 취소되는, 미디어 플레이어.
  19. 복수의 미디어 플레이어 애플리케이션 기능을 동작시키는 복수의 애플리케이션 커맨드를 정의하는 미디어 플레이어 액세서리 프로토콜에 따라 미디어 플레이어와 상호작용하는 액세서리 장치에 의해서 수행되는 방법으로서,
    인증 동작을 개시하는 인증 요청을 상기 미디어 플레이어로부터 수신하는 단계;
    상기 인증 요청에 응답하여, 상기 인증 동작에서 상기 미디어 플레이어에 의해서 이용가능한 인증 정보를 상기 미디어 플레이어에 전송하는 단계;
    상기 인증 동작의 완료 이전에 상기 미디어 플레이어에 상기 복수의 애플리케이션 커맨드 중 적어도 하나를 전송하는 단계 - 상기 적어도 하나의 애플리케이션 커맨드에 대한 응답으로, 상기 미디어 플레이어는 상기 복수의 미디어 플레이어 애플리케이션 기능 중 연관된 기능을 동작시킴 -; 및
    인증 서명의 확인(validation)을 위하여 상기 미디어 플레이어에 상기 인증 서명을 전송하는 단계를 포함하고,
    상기 인증 동작은 상기 인증 서명의 확인 시에 완료되고, 상기 인증 동작이 실패하는 경우에, 상기 액세서리 장치에 의해 전송된 후속 코맨드는 상기 미디어 플레이어에 의해 무시되는, 방법.
  20. 제19항에 있어서,
    상기 인증 정보는 인증서를 포함하는, 방법.
  21. 제19항에 있어서,
    상기 액세서리 장치에 의해서 지원되는 커맨드 세트의 표시를 포함하는 장치 식별 메시지를 상기 미디어 플레이어에 전송하는 단계를 더 포함하고,
    상기 지원되는 커맨드 세트가 상기 인증 정보에 기초하여 결정되는 허용 커맨드 세트와 일치하지 않는 경우에 상기 인증 동작은 실패하는, 방법.
  22. 제21항에 있어서,
    상기 미디어 플레이어에 상기 복수의 애플리케이션 커맨드 중 적어도 하나를 전송하는 단계는, 상기 지원되는 커맨트 세트로부터의 커맨드를 상기 미디어 플레이어에 전송하는 단계를 포함하는 방법.
  23. 제19항에 있어서,
    랜덤 챌린지를 포함하는 디지털 서명 요청을 상기 미디어 플레이어로부터 수신하는 단계; 및
    서명된 챌린지를 생성하는 단계를 더 포함하고,
    상기 인증 서명은 상기 서명된 챌린지를 포함하는, 방법.
  24. 제23항에 있어서,
    상기 서명된 챌린지는 비밀 키를 이용하여 상기 액세서리 장치에 의해서 서명되고, 상기 인증 정보는 상기 비밀 키에 대응하는 공개 키를 포함하며, 상기 공개 키는 상기 서명된 챌린지를 확인하는데 사용가능한, 방법.
  25. 제19항에 있어서,
    상기 액세서리 장치에 의해서 지원되는 커맨드 세트의 표시를 포함하는 장치 식별 메시지를 상기 미디어 플레이어에 전송하는 단계를 더 포함하고,
    상기 커맨드 세트는 위험한 행위에 관련되는 제1 커맨드 및 위험하지 않은 행위에 관련되는 제2 커맨드를 포함 - 상기 위험한 행위는 미디어 플레이어 동작을 영구적으로 변경시키거나 안전하지 않은 미디어를 다운로드 하는 행위이고, 상기 위험하지 않은 행위는 상기 위험한 행위를 제외한 행위임 - 하며,
    상기 인증 동작의 완료 이전에, 상기 액세서리 장치가, 상기 제2 커맨드를 이용하여 상기 미디어 플레이어에 액세스하는 것은 허용되나, 상기 제1 커맨드를 이용하여 상기 미디어 플레이어에 액세스하는 것은 허용되지 않는, 방법.
  26. 제19항에 있어서,
    상기 인증 동작이 성공적으로 완료되었는지 여부를 나타내는 인증 상태 메시지를 상기 미디어 플레이어로부터 수신하는 단계를 더 포함하는 방법.
  27. 액세서리 장치로서,
    저장된 미디어 자산에 액세스하기 위한 적어도 하나의 애플리케이션을 실행하도록 구성되는 제어 모듈과,
    미디어 플레이어 액세서리 프로토콜에 따라 커맨드 및 연관 데이터를 미디어 플레이어와 교환하도록 구성되는 인터페이스를 포함하고,
    상기 미디어 플레이어와 교환되는 커맨드는, 상기 액세서리 장치를 인증하기 위해 인증 동작에서 이용가능한 하나 이상의 인증 커맨드 및 복수의 미디어 플레이어 애플리케이션 기능을 작동시키는 복수의 애플리케이션 커맨드를 포함하고,
    상기 인증 동작 중에, 상기 액세서리 장치는 상기 복수의 미디어 플레이어 애플리케이션 기능 중 하나를 동작시키기 위해 상기 미디어 플레이어에 상기 복수의 애플리케이션 커맨드 중 하나와 상기 인증 커맨드 중 적어도 하나를 전송하도록 구성되는, 액세서리 장치.
  28. 제27항에 있어서,
    상기 인증 커맨드는,
    상기 미디어 플레이어에서 상기 액세서리 장치로 인증서를 요청하는 커맨드와,
    상기 액세서리 장치에서 상기 미디어 플레이어로 상기 인증서를 반환하는 커맨드
    를 포함하는 액세서리 장치.
  29. 제28항에 있어서,
    상기 인증 커맨드는,
    상기 미디어 플레이어에서 상기 액세서리 장치로, 상기 액세서리 장치가 커맨드와 연관된 데이터로서 제공되는 랜덤 챌린지를 디지털 방식으로 서명할 것을 요청하는 커맨드와,
    상기 액세서리 장치에서 상기 미디어 플레이어로 서명된 챌린지를 반환하는 커맨드
