Abstract
Description
本出願は、2019年1月7日付韓国特許出願第10-2019-0001843号に基づいた優先権の利益を主張し、当該韓国特許出願の文献に開示された全ての内容は本明細書の一部として含まれる。
従来には、容量特性及び抵抗特性を改善するため高コストのコバルトを含む正極活物質を用いた。しかし、前記コバルト金属の場合、埋蔵量の限界により高コストであるため、二次電池の製造コストが上昇するという短所があった。

また、本発明は、前記正極を含む電気化学素子を製造することができる。前記電気化学素子は、具体的に、電池、キャパシター等であってよく、より具体的には、リチウム二次電池であってよい。
実施例1
NiSO4、MnSO4及びAl2(SO4)3をニッケル:マンガン:アルミニウムのモル比が86:12:2となる量でイオン交換水の中に溶かして2Mの遷移金属水溶液を準備した。
前記実施例1の遷移金属水溶液に最終製造された正極活物質でのCoの含量が2,000ppmとなる量でCo3O4を追加することを除いては、前記実施例1と同一の方法で正極活物質前駆体を製造した。前記で製造した正極活物質前駆体とLiOHを遷移金属:Liのモル比が1:1.03となるように混合し、酸素雰囲気で800℃で10時間焼成して正極活物質を製造した。
前記実施例1で製造した正極活物質前駆体とLiOHを遷移金属:Liのモル比が1:1.03となるように混合し、酸素雰囲気で800℃で10時間焼成してリチウム遷移金属酸化物を製造した。その後、前記リチウム遷移金属酸化物に最終製造された正極活物質でのCoの含量が5,000ppmとなる量でCo3O4を混合し、酸素雰囲気で800℃で10時間熱処理してリチウム遷移金属酸化物の表面にCoがコーティングされた正極活物質を製造した。
前記実施例1で製造した正極活物質前駆体とLiOHを遷移金属:Liのモル比が1:1.03となるように混合し、酸素雰囲気で800℃で10時間焼成して正極活物質を製造した。
NiSO4、MnSO4及びCo3O4をニッケル:マンガン:コバルトのモル比が86:12:2となる量でイオン交換水の中に溶かして2Mの遷移金属水溶液を準備し、これを用いて実施例1と同一の方法で正極活物質前駆体を製造した。
前記実施例1~3及び比較例1で製造した正極活物質のX線光電子分光分析(X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy、XPS)(Thermo Scientific社製)を用いた深さプロファイル(depth profile)を介し、前記実施例1~3及び比較例1で製造した正極活物質中のCoの濃度勾配を確認し、これを下記表1に示した。
前記実施例1~3及び比較例1~2で製造した正極活物質を含むリチウム二次電池を製造した後、前記二次電池の容量特性を比べた。
前記実験例2で製造した実施例1~3及び比較例1~2のリチウム二次電池それぞれを45℃で0.33Cの定電流で4.2Vまで0.05Cカットオフ(cut off)で充電した。その後、0.33Cの定電流で3.0Vまで放電を行った。前記充電及び放電の挙動を1サイクルとし、このようなサイクルを30回繰り返し実施した後、前記実施例1~3及び比較例1~2によるリチウム二次電池の容量維持率及び抵抗増加率を測定し、これを下記表3に示した。
前記実験例2で製造した実施例1~3及び比較例1のリチウム二次電池の抵抗特性を確認した。それぞれの抵抗値は、EIS(電気化学インピーダンス分光法)を用いて測定した。具体的に、リチウム二次電池(コインハーフセル)を製造した後、Solartron Analytical EIS(Solartron Analytical社製)を用いて、周波数300000~0.1Hz、AC(交流)振幅10mAの条件で抵抗値を測定し、その結果を図1に示した。

- リチウムを除いた金属の総モル数に対して、60モル%以上のニッケルを含むニッケル系リチウム遷移金属酸化物を含み、
前記ニッケル系リチウム遷移金属酸化物の表面にコバルトを0超過から6,000ppm以下で含む正極活物質。 - 前記正極活物質は、前記コバルトを2,000から5,000ppmの量で含む、請求項1に記載の正極活物質。
- 前記コバルトの含量は、前記正極活物質の粒子の表面から粒子の中心方向に濃度勾配を有して減る、請求項1に記載の正極活物質。
- 前記コバルトは、前記正極活物質の粒子の表面から粒子の中心方向に2,000nm以内にのみ存在する、請求項1に記載の正極活物質。

前記ニッケル原料物質は、遷移金属水溶液内の遷移金属の総モル数に対してニッケルの原子の比率が60モル%以上となる量で含まれ、
前記コバルト原料物質は、最終製造された正極活物質内のCoの含量が0超過から6,000ppm以下となる量で混合される、正極活物質の製造方法。 - 前記コバルト原料物質は、最終製造された正極活物質内のCoの含量が2,000から5,000ppmとなる量で混合される、請求項9に記載の正極活物質の製造方法。
- 正極集電体と、前記正極集電体上に形成される正極活物質層を含み、
前記正極活物質層は、請求項1から5のいずれか一項に記載の正極活物質を含む、正極。 - 請求項11に記載の正極を含むリチウム二次電池。
