【課題】 本発明は移動電話においてアプリケーションを使用する便利な支払い実施システム及び支払いシステムを動作させる方法を提供する。
【解決手段】 支払い実施システムは、アプリケーション；該アプリケーションを使用するための手段；及びデータ転送を提供するための第１の手段；を内含する少なくとも１つの移動局と、データ転送を提供するための第２の手段を有し、この第２の手段が無線インタフェースを通してデータ転送を提供するために移動局の前記第１の手段に結合されている、少なくとも１つの支払い受信端末と、を含んで成ることを特徴とし、支払い受信端末内で支払い取引を登録するため、データ転送を提供するための第１の手段と前記無線インタフェースを通したデータ転送を提供するための第２の手段の間でデータを転送する手段がアプリケーションに含まれる。

Description

本発明は、移動局を用いる支払い実施システム及び支払いシステムを動作させる方法に関するものである。
制御カードが、ＧＳＭ（Global System for Mobile Communications （移動通信用広域システム））規格に基づくシステムで用いられるＳＩＭ（Subscriber Identity Module（加入者識別モジュール））等、の加入者識別ユニットを含む従来技術の移動電話がある。このＳＩＭは、制御ユニットＣＰＵ（中央処理装置）、プログラムメモリーＲＯＭ（読み出し専用メモリー）、長時間記憶に適するデータメモリーＥＥＰＲＯＭ（Electrically Erasable Programmable Read 0nly Memory （電気的に消去可能なプログラマブル読み出し専用メモリー））と、使用中にデータを保存するのに適する運用メモリーＲＡＭ（ランダムアクセスメモリー）から成っている。この移動電話を使用するために、一般には該移動電話をオンにするときに、ＳＩＭに記憶されているＰＩＮ（Personal Identification Number（個人識別番号））が呈示されなければならない。他の、例えば電話番号、メッセージ等、のユーザー固有の情報もＳＩＭのデータメモリーに記憶させることができる。
今日、例えば携帯コンピュータ等、の外付けデータ処理装置を接続するためのデータコネクタを有する移動電話も存在する。従って、その携帯コンピュータと他のデータ処理装置との間で無線通信網を通してデータを転送するための手段にその移動電話を使用することができる。この様に、例えばユーザーの銀行と接続して残高を調べ、便利な支払いをすることが可能である。しかしながら、この種の装置はコンピュータと移動電話との間に独立のケーブルが必要なため余り実用的ではない。また、例えば銀行との接続のためにコンピュータが利用できなければならない。
いわゆるスマートカードや支払いカードという無線システムも知られており、前記カードは主にバスや公衆電話における支払い等の用途に用いられている。この様なスマートカードは、一般に中央処理装置、プログラムメモリー及びデータメモリーを含んでいる。使用中の該カードの内部動作は、プログラムメモリーに記憶されているプログラムコードに従ってＣＰＵで制御される。データメモリーは、スマートカードの金額等の該スマートカードの意図された用途に関する情報を保存するために使用される。支払い処理を実行するため、該カードは、例えば電磁誘導に基づくトランシーバー等、のデータ転送装置も内蔵している。この種のスマートカードの欠点は、例えば種々の支払いのために異なる幾つかのカードが必要になることがあるため、ユーザーは多数のカードを携帯しなければならないという事実にある。また、該カードに装填された金額が使い果たされたならば、新しいカードを購入するか、或いは装填サービスをする小売り販売店で新たな金額を該カードに装填しなければならない。
日本特許出願ＪＰ４０８３４４７は、別のメモリーカードによってより多くの特性を付け加えることのできる移動電話を開示している。この様なアプリケーションは、例えば格納容量や電話番号記憶等を増大させる等のある用途に好んで用いられる。この様なアプリケーションは、移動電話の中央処理装置が該アプリケーション（メモリーカード）に記憶されているデータを読み出して該データが要求する所定の方法で作動するという方法に基づいている。この方法の欠点は、アプリケーションの種々の動作を実行するために必要な機能が前もって中央処理装置ＣＰＵにプログラムされていなければならず、新しいアプリケーションを開発するには中央処理装置のプログラムも変更しなければならないという事実にある。
国際特許出願ＷＯ９１／１２６９８は、スマートカード等の付加カード(add-in card) によって特性を付け加えることのできる移動電話を開示している。この様にして、例えば外国との通話、長距離通話、或いはサービス番号への通話を防止することによって電話の使用を制限することができる。通話制限に関する情報は付加カードに記憶され、これをユーザーは使用時に移動電話に据え付けなければならない。従って、この方法の主な用途は移動電話の何らかの特性の使用を阻止することである。
前述の欠点を取り除き、この分野の技術水準を向上させるために、移動無線通信装置（移動電話）でアプリケーションを使用する新しい方法が、新しい移動電話及び便利な支払いを実行するための新しいシステムとともに発明されてきた。該アプリケーションは、好適にはクレジットカード、キャッシュカード又は支払いカード等の一定の用途向けになされている。該アプリケーションは、公共輸送機関の時刻表や為替相場のような特殊なサービスも提供することができる。該アプリケーションは好ましくはアプリケーション・モジュールに搭載され、その技術的解決策は上記のＳＩＭに近いものであり得る。同じアプリケーション・モジュールが２つ以上のアプリケーションを内蔵することができる。該アプリケーション・モジュールは、該アプリケーション・モジュールが所要の導体を移動局から該アプリケーション・モジュールへ導くアプリケーション・コネクタを持つように、或るサイズの、一般にプラスチック又はこれに相当する材料から成るモジュール・カードに取り付けられる。同じモジュール・カードが数個のアプリケーション・モジュールを包含することができ、その場合には各アプリケーション・モジュールはそれ自身のアプリケーション・モジュール・コネクタを有する。該アプリケーション・モジュール・コネクタは、対応するモジュール・カードのアプリケーション・モジュール・コネクタと機能的に接続される。各モジュール・カードは移動局に設けられたモジュール・カード・コネクタに接続され、この装置において前記モジュール・カード・コネクタはアプリケーション・モジュール・コネクタを含む。
本発明は、第１動作モードと第２動作モードとを有するアプリケーションで移動局を補うことができるというアイデアに基づいている。第１動作モードにおけるアプリケーションは、能動的には何もせずにバックグランドで受動的にとどまる。第２動作モードでは、該アプリケーションは能動的であり、例えば、移動局の中央処理装置を制御することができる。第２動作モードのときには、該アプリケーションは、該アプリケーションが第２動作モードへの転換時に要求した移動電話の一般的なコンポーネント、例えばディスプレイ、キーパッド、状況インジケータ、及びデータポート等の周辺装置を使用することもできる。
本発明の方法で使用されるアプリケーションは、該アプリケーションが第２動作モードに転換し得る状態により好ましくは３種類ある。即ち、１）１つはいわゆるパワーアップ型であり、このタイプのアプリケーションは移動局がオンに転換し且つ／又はモジュール・カードが挿入された後直ちに第２動作モードに転換する。２）１つはメニュー型であり、このタイプではユーザーは自分がアクティブにしたいアプリケーションを例えば移動局のディスプレイに表示されるメニューから選択することができる。３）もう１つは自動型であり、このタイプではアプリケーションは該アプリケーションについて定められている一定の条件が満たされたときに第２動作モードに転換する。例えば、ＧＳＭシステムで移動局が特別のＳＭＳ（Short Message Service （ショートメッセージ・サービス））メッセージを受け取ったときに３番目の動作モードのアプリケーションはアクティブになることができる。ＳＭＳメッセージは、通常は移動局間で短い文章メッセージを転送するために使用される。自動型はメニューからも選択できる。メニュー・オプションは、数個のパワーアップ型のアプリケーションが移動局に接続されており、それらのアプリケーションの１つが第２動作モードに転換し得る状態のときにも使用し得る。
本発明による支払い実施システムは、
−・ アプリケーション
・ 該アプリケーションを使用するための手段；及び
・ データ転送を提供するための第１の手段；
を内含する少なくとも１つの移動局、
− データ転送を提供するための第２の手段を有し、この第２の手段が無線インタフェースを通してデータ転送を提供するために移動局の前記第１の手段に結合されている、少なくとも１つの支払い受信端末、
を含んで成ることを特徴とし、
支払い受信端末内で支払い取引を登録するため、データ転送を提供するための第１の手段と前記無線インタフェースを通したデータ転送を提供するための第２の手段の間でデータを転送する手段がアプリケーションに含まれていることを特徴とする。
また、本発明の方法は、第１のユーザー端末及び第２の端末を内含する支払いシステムを動作させる方法において、該第１のユーザー端末が少なくとも１つのアプリケーションを有し、
− 支払いが第１のユーザー端末から第２の端末に対して行なわれることを規定する情報を第１のユーザー端末内に入力する段階；
− 無線インタフェースを通して少なくとも１つのアプリケーションから第２の端末への通信リンクを確立する段階、及び
− 第２の端末及び少なくとも１つのアプリケーションのうちの少なくとも１つのもので支払い取引を登録する段階、
といった段階を含むことを特徴とする。
この発明によって、従来技術の解決策と比べて顕著な利点が達成される。本発明により、移動電話で実行可能な用途範囲を実質的に増大させることができる。通常の電話サービス及びデータサービスの他に、本発明に関連する移動局は、従来のプラスチックカードに代えてクレジットカード及び／又はキャッシュカードとしても使用し得る。適当なアプリケーション・モジュールを備えた移動局により、ユーザーは商店で自分のクレジット口座を使って支払いをすることができ（クレジットカード・アプリケーション）、或いは自分の銀行口座から直接支払うことができ（キャッシュカード・アプリケーション）、従って現金は不要である。
クレジットカード型及びキャッシュカード型の両方のアプリケーションに特徴的なことは、電子的な形のお金が中央コンピュータ（マネーサーバーとも称する）に蓄えられていて、支払いをするときに移動局はそのコンピュータと接触することである。所望の場合、アプリケーションは、支払いが受納される前に、クレジット限度又は銀行口座の残高をチェックすることができる。
お金を移動局の“電子マネー財布”又はアプリケーション・モジュール自体に蓄えることも可能である。その場合には、好ましいことに、支払いが受納される前にマネーサーバーからクレジット限度又は銀行口座の残高をチェックすることは不要である。即ち、支払いをするためにマネーサーバーと接触する必要はない。“電子マネー財布”に蓄えられている金額の情報を移動局のメモリー又はアプリケーション・モジュールから読み出すことができ、支払いをするときにはそこから電子マネーを差し引く。お金を移動局又はアプリケーション・モジュール自体に蓄えるこれらの種類のアプリケーションは支払いアプリケーションとも呼ばれる。
次に、添付図面を参照して本発明をより詳しく説明する。
図１に示す本発明の基本的な実施例において、カード制御移動局１は、マスター制御ユニットＭＣＵ、ユーザーインターフェースＵＩ、高周波部ＲＦ、低周波部ＡＵＤＩＯ、電源ユニット２、データ転送用の第１手段ＩＲ、及びアプリケーション・モジュール接続ユニット６から成る。移動局１の動作は、ＭＣＵによって制御され、ＭＣＵには種々の動作を実行するためのプログラムコードが前もって記憶されている。
ユーザーインターフェースＵＩは、従来技術の移動電話から知られているコンポーネント、即ち、ディスプレイ７、キーパッド８及び状況インジケータ２３を有する。ＭＣＵは、様々な状態固有のメッセージ、動作命令、メニュー等をディスプレイ７に表示する。キーパッド８を使って、ユーザーは、識別番号及び電話番号等の種々の情報を移動局１に入力し、そしてメニューから動作を選択することができる。状況インジケータ２３は、好適には移動局１の内部動作モードを表示するのに使用される。
無線周波数コンポーネントＲＦは、移動電話の公知のコンポーネントであって、ＧＳＭ通信網等の無線通信網において無線周波数を使って例えば移動サービス交換センターＭＳＣを通してコール及びメッセージを送受信するのに使われる。
低周波数部ＡＵＤＩＯは、好ましくはマイクロホン９、ヘッドホン１０及びブザー１１等を有する。
移動局１の動作電力はバッテリ１２から供給され、必要なときに充電される。電源ユニット２は、特にバッテリ１２の充電状況及び充電処理を監視する。電源ユニット２は、バッテリ１２の充電状況が所定値より下がると、情報を中央ユニットＭＣＵへ送り、するとＭＣＵは好ましくはブザー１１を鳴らし且つ／又はメッセージをディスプレイ７で表示してそのことを知らせる。
図３ａに示されるようなモジュール・カード１３は、移動局１に配置されたモジュール・カード・コネクタ（図示せず）に接続される。モジュール・カード１３は、特にユーザー識別用の加入者識別モジュール（ＳＩＭ）を内蔵することができる。
アプリケーション・モジュール・コネクタはモジュール・カード１３のアプリケーション・モジュール１９に配設されている。
図３ｂは、ＳＩＭの内部構造を簡易なフローチャートとして示している。中央処理装置ＣＰＵは、ＳＩＭの動作をプログラムメモリーに記憶されているプログラムコードに基づいて制御する。ユーザーに固有の種々の情報はデータメモリーＥＥＰＲＯＭに記憶させておくことができ、この情報は制御カードＳＩＭがアプリケーション・モジュール接続ユニット６から取り外されても該メモリーの中にある。アプリケーション・モジュール接続ユニット６は、図１及び２に示されているように移動局１に配置される。制御カードの動作中、動作メモリーＲＡＭ（図３ｂ）は一時データ記憶装置として使用される。バスアダプタＤＡＴＡ−Ｉ／Ｏは、ＳＩＭカードをアプリケーション・モジュール・バス１４及び制御及びデータ・ラインＩ／Ｏに適合させる（図２）。
他のモジュール・カード１３を図１の基本的な実施例のアプリケーション・モジュール接続ユニット６に接続することもできる。その場合、好適にはそれら自身のモジュール・カード・コネクタに接続される。モジュール・カード１３上のアプリケーション・モジュール１９（図３ｃ）は、図３ａ及び図３ｂに示されるＳＩＭカードと同様の機械的及び電気的構成を持つことができる。アプリケーション・モジュール接続ユニット６から移動局１の中央処理装置（ＭＣＵ）にはアプリケーション・モジュール・バス１４があり、これにより、アプリケーション・モジュール接続ユニット６に接続されるアプリケーション・モジュール１９はＭＣＵと通信する。例えば、モデムで知られているＡＴコマンドを使ってデータ及びコマンドを転送することができる。ＡＴコマンドは、例えば、ペトリ・ヘイノネンの１９９４年度タンペレ技術大学理学修士論文“ＧＳＭ移動装置で使用される標準ＡＴコマンドについての提案”（the Master of Science Thesis of Petri Heinonen, "Proposal for Standard AT Commands Used with GSM Mobile Equipment", 1994, Tampere University of Technology）により詳しく記載されている。
アプリケーション・モジュール・バス１４の他に、アプリケーション・モジュール接続ユニット６の各アプリケーション・モジュール・コネクタ１５、１６、１７から別々の制御及びデータ・ラインＩ／Ｏ、Ｉ／Ｏ’、Ｉ／Ｏ”（図２）がある。従って、制御及びデータラインの標準シリーズＩＳＯ７８１６に基づく構成を使用することができる。標準シリーズＩＳＯ７８１６は電圧レベル及びタイミング図を含んでおり、それに従ってアプリケーション・モジュール１９（図３ｃ）は制御及びデータラインＩ／Ｏ、Ｉ／Ｏ’、Ｉ／Ｏ”に接続される。
各アプリケーション・モジュール１９のために、アプリケーション・モジュール接続ユニット６はコネクタを有し、それを通してアプリケーション・モジュール・バス１４はアプリケーション・モジュール１９と接続される。
図３ｃに示すように、２つ以上のアプリケーション・モジュール１９を同じモジュール・カード１３に接続することができる。モジュール・カード１３上の２つ目のアプリケーション・モジュール１９’は、例えばＳＩＭモジュールであってよい。
移動局１は、赤外線ＩＲ送受信装置等の第１データ転送手段も有する。ＩＲデータ転送の第１手段を使って、移動局１とキャッシュレジスタ（支払い端末）２１との間、又は例えば２つの異なる移動局１の間（図７）の比較的短い距離でデータを転送することができる。
第１データ転送手段ＩＲはデータコネクタ２０も含むことができ、これを使ってコンピュータを移動局１に接続することができる（図１）。
図４ａ及び４ｂは、アプリケーション１８がどの様にして活性化されたり不活性化されたりするか、またアプリケーション１８がどの様にして第１動作モードから第２動作モードへ、或いはその逆に切り替えられるかを示している。本特許出願において、第１動作モードは、アプリケーションが能動的には何もしないが、第２動作モードのアプリケーションを通して又はＭＣＵを通して令名を入手するモードを意味する。第２動作モードは制御モードを意味し、第２動作モードのアプリケーションは、中央ユニットＭＣＵを含む移動局１の種々の装置の動作を制御し、メッセージを他のアプリケーションへ送ることができる。
ＭＣＵは、２つの異なる動作モード、即ち１）通常モード及び２）アプリケーション・モードを有することができる。通常モードでは、中央ユニットＭＣＵは公知の移動電話と同様に動作して移動局の動作を制御する。アプリケーション・モードでは、ＭＣＵは第２動作モードのアプリケーション１８（図３ｃ）により制御される。アプリケーション・モードでも、中央ユニットＭＣＵは、キーパッド８を読んで、もし第２動作モードのアプリケーション１８がそれを要求するならば、キーパッド入力の情報をそのアプリケーション１８へ送ることができる。
図４ａに示されている例では、手順は移動局１のオン切り替え（１００）から始まり、その後に移動局１のＭＣＵは第１アプリケーション・モジュール・コネクタ１５の制御及びデータラインＩ／Ｏ（図１及び２）をリセット状態にセットする（ブロック１０１）。もしアプリケーション・モジュール１９（図３ｃ）が第１アプリケーション・モジュール・コネクタ１５に接続されていて、前記モジュール１９が許容可能なＩＳＯ７８１６応答（ブロック１０２）をＭＣＵへ送ったならば、ＭＣＵは第１アプリケーション・モジュール・コネクタ１５の制御及びデータラインＩ／Ｏを許容状態にセットする（ブロック１０３）。ブロック１０４で、ＭＣＵは全てのアプリケーション・モジュール・コネクタ１５、１６、１７が検査されたか否か判断する。
未だ全てのアプリケーション・モジュール・コネクタ１５、１６、１７が検査されていなければ、手順はブロック１０１に戻り、ここで次のアプリケーション・モジュール・コネクタ１６、１７が検査される。ＭＣＵはブロック１０２で応答を得ないか或いはその答えが許容できなければ、手順はブロック１０５に続き、ここでＭＣＵはＩＳＯ７８１６に基づくアプリケーション・モジュール１９がアプリケーション・モジュール・コネクタ１５、１６、１７に取り付けられていないと判断する。
全てのアプリケーション・モジュール・コネクタ１５、１６、１７の検査が終わると、手順はブロック１０６へ続き、ここで、例えばＧＳＭ通信網で知られたユーザー識別が行われる。ユーザー識別が失敗したならば、移動局１のパワーアップ処理が止められる（ブロック１０７）。ユーザーは一般に自分自身の個人識別番号を示す機会を３回有する。もし識別番号が３回目に正しく呈示されなければ、ユーザーはもっと長い識別コードを示さなければならず、その後にユーザーは再び自分自身の識別番号を正しく呈示する機会を３回与えられる。もしユーザーがこの３回の余分の機会のいずれにおいても正しい識別番号を示さなければ、ユーザーは再びより長い及びより短い識別コードを示さなければならない。もし、許容される試行回数後に識別番号が正しく示されていなければ、制御カードは、内蔵されている情報を破壊し、これで制御カードＳＩＭは永久に使用不能になる。
個人識別番号が首尾良く呈示されたとき、ＭＣＵはブロック１０８へ移行し、ここでＭＣＵは最初のアプリケーション・モジュール・コネクタ１５に接続されているアプリケーション・モジュール１９に内蔵されてたアプリケーション１８の情報を問い合わせる。もしアプリケーション・モジュール１９がアプリケーション１８を内蔵していれば、ＭＣＵはアプリケーション１８の情報を読み出し（ブロック１０９）、それをメモリーに記憶する（ブロック１１０）。検査されたアプリケーション・モジュール１９がアプリケーション１８を有しておらず、或いはコネクタにアプリケーション・モジュールが無ければ、ＭＣＵはこの情報をそのメモリーに保存する（ブロック１１１）。ブロック１１２において、ＭＣＵは、全てのアプリケーション・モジュール１９の検査が終わったか否か判断する。もし未だ検査されていないアプリケーション・モジュール１９があるならば、手順はブロック１０８に戻り、次のアプリケーション・モジュール１９に内蔵されているアプリケーション１８の情報を問い合わせる。
ＭＣＵが全てのアプリケーション・モジュール１９を調べ終わると、手順はブロック１１２の後でブロック１１３へ続き、ここでＭＣＵはメニューを移動局１のディスプレイ７に表示し、ユーザーは、ＭＣＵを制御する第２動作モードに切り替えるべきアプリケーション１８を該メニューから選択することができる。ユーザーがアプリケーション１８を選択すると、ＭＣＵはユーザーインターフェースのどの部分（ディスプレイ７、キーパッド８及び／又は状況インジケータ等）を該アプリケーションが要求しているか質問する。もしＭＣＵが選択されたアプリケーション１８から許容可能な応答が無かったならば、手順はブロック１１３に戻る。反対にもしＭＣＵが選択されたアプリケーション１８から許容可能な応答を得たならば、ＭＣＵはアプリケーション・モードに、即ち選択されたアプリケーション１８によって制御されるモードに切り替える（ブロック１１５）。
ユーザーがアプリケーション１８を選択しなければ（ブロック１１３）、ＭＣＵは通常モードに切り替え（ブロック１１６）、このモードではＭＣＵを制御するアプリケーション１８は無く、全てのアプリケーション１８は第１動作モードである。
通常モードで、ブロック１１７、ＭＣＵは、アプリケーション・モジュール１９で使用できるアプリケーション１８を包含するメニューを移動局１のディスプレイ７に表示する。そのメニューから、ユーザーは、第２動作モードに切り替えられるべきアプリケーションを選択することができる（ブロック１１８）。もしモジュール・カード１３がモジュール・カード・コネクタから外されると、外されたモジュール・カード１３の全てのアプリケーション１８が移動局１のメニューから除去される（ブロック１２８）。
ブロック１１８には、ＭＣＵが選択されたアプリケーション・モジュール１９に内蔵されているアプリケーション１８を問い合わせる状態が記述されている。ＭＣＵは、許容可能な応答をアプリケーション・モジュール１９から得ると、パワーアップ型のアプリケーション１８を無視するが、他のアプリケーションの情報は保存する（ブロック１１９）。ＭＣＵが許容可能な応答をアプリケーション１８から得なかったならば、新しいアプリケーション１８は付加されない（ブロック１２０）。
もしＭＣＵがブロック１１６において通常モードであり、ユーザーがメニューからアプリケーション１８を選択するか、或いは自動型アプリケーション１８がＭＣＵに第２動作モードに切り替えることを知らせると、ＭＣＵは第２動作モードに切り替えるアプリケーション１８が移動局１のユーザーインターフェースＵＩのどのユニットを必要とするかを尋ねる（ブロック１２１）。ＭＣＵが許容可能な応答をアプリケーション１８から得なければ、ＭＣＵの動作はブロック１１７へ移行する。もしアプリケーション１８が許容可能な応答をＭＣＵに示せば、ＭＣＵはアプリケーション・モードに切り替える（ブロック１１５）。
ＭＣＵがアプリケーション・モードとなっていて（ブロック１１５）、且つ第２動作モードに切り替えるべき自動型アプリケーション１８の前提条件が満たされた時に、第２動作モードの該アプリケーション１８に対して、自動型の該アプリケーションが第２動作モードに切り替えられるか否か問い合わせが行われる（ブロック１２２）。もし切り替えが許容されなければ、手順はブロック１１５に戻る。もし切り替えが可能ならば、ＭＣＵは、移動局１のユーザーインターフェースＵＩのどのユニットを必要とするかを自動型アプリケーション１８に尋ねる（ブロック１２３）。応答が許容できないものであれば、ＭＣＵの動作はブロック１１５に再び戻る。応答が許容できるものであるときは、自動型アプリケーション１８はＭＣＵの動作を制御する第２動作モードに転換し、同時に、第２動作モードであったアプリケーション１８は第１動作モードに切り替える。
そのアプリケーション１８が第１動作モードとなっているアプリケーション・モジュール１９を内蔵するモジュール・カード１３がモジュール・カード・コネクタから外されると、前記アプリケーション１８はメニューから除かれる。
新しいモジュール・カード１３が移動局１に付加されると、該モジュール・カード１３におけるアプリケーション・モジュール１９のアプリケーション１８の識別パラメータがブロック１２５で問い合わされる。アプリケーション・モジュール１９が識別子をＭＣＵへ送ると、ＭＣＵは、パワーアップ型アプリケーション１８を捨てて、ブロック１２６でアプリケーション・モジュール１９に内蔵されているその他のアプリケーション１８を保存する。許容できる応答がアプリケーション・モジュール１９から得られなければ、該アプリケーション・モジュールの情報は付加されない（ブロック１２７）。
モジュール・カード１３がモジュール・カード・コネクタから外されて、前記カード１３がもし第２動作モードとなっているパワーアップ型又は自動型アプリケーション１８を内蔵していたならば、移動局１はオフに切り替えられる。そうでなければ、ＭＣＵは通常モードに戻る（ブロック１１６）。第２動作モードとなっているメニュー型又は自動型のアプリケーション１８も第１動作モードに自動的に戻ることができ、或いはユーザーの手操作で第１動作モードに戻される（１２９）。
次に、本発明の実施例による移動局１におけるキャッシュカード又はその他の支払いカード・アプリケーションの動作について概説する（図６）。
移動局１には制御カードＳＩＭ及び１つのアプリケーション・モジュール１９の両方が接続されており、前記モジュール１９はアプリケーション１８を内蔵し（図６には示されていない）、この例ではキャッシュカード・アプリケーションである。アプリケーション１８は、ユーザーの銀行口座に対応する少なくとも１つの口座を有し、ユーザーはアプリケーション１８のその口座から支払いを行うことができる。好適には、アプリケーション１８の使用が開始された時、残高情報が、例えばＧＳＭ通信網の通常のデータチャネルにより或いはＳＭＳメッセージとして該銀行口座から読み出され、アプリケーション・モジュール１９の一部であってアプリケーション１８で使用されるデータメモリーＥＥＰＲＯＭに保存される。
支払いとの関係で、アプリケーション１８はアプリケーション１８の口座の残高をそれに応じて減少させる。ユーザーの銀行口座に対するアプリケーション１８での支払い取引等の更新は、例えば一定の時にアプリケーション１８により制御され、且つ／又は移動局１のメニューからユーザーにより選択されて、且つ／又は支払いとの関係で、好ましくは自動的に行われる。銀行口座が更新されるとき、アプリケーション１８は、ＭＣＵを誘導して、移動サービス交換センターＭＳＣを通して、且つ多くの場合に私用有線通信網を通して、銀行のコンピュータとデータ転送接続を確立させる。接続の確立は、ユーザーに最初に電話番号を尋ねるか、或いは該アプリケーションのメモリーに保存されている番号を使って行われ、後者の場合には手続が簡素である。好ましいことに、残高情報を更新するためにＳＭＳメッセージを使用する場合には、通常の音声／データチャネルを他の活動に使用できる。
移動局１に、ユーザーは、例えば銀行口座、クレジット口座及び／又はキャッシュ口座等の種々の口座を同時に持つことができ、それらは、異なるアプリケーション・モジュール１９の、異なるアプリケーション１８の中にあっても良い。この方法の利点は、特に、ユーザーが、例えばクレジット口座から銀行口座又はキャッシュ口座へと、口座間でお金を移すことができるということである。
図４ａ及び４ｂのフローチャートに示されるように、例えば移動局１がオンに切り換えられた後にアプリケーション１８を使用することができる。ＭＣＵは、識別番号を入力させるためのメッセージをディスプレイ７に表示する。ユーザーは自分自身の識別番号を入力し、それはＭＣＵに読みとられてＳＩＭカードに送られる。ＳＩＭの中央処理装置ＣＰＵは、入力された識別番号を前もって保存さた識別番号と比較して検査し、その識別番号が正しく示されたか否かをＭＣＵに知らせる。識別番号が正しくなければ、ＭＣＵはもう一度それを示すようにユーザーに求めることができる。
識別番号が正しく示されたならば、ＭＣＵは、上で述べた段階に従って動作する。この実施例では、他のコネクタ１６、１７には他のアプリケーション・モジュール１９は無いので、ＭＣＵはメニューをディスプレイ７に表示し、それからユーザーはアプリケーション・モジュール１９のアプリケーション１８（このアプリケーションはキャッシュカード・アプリケーションである）を選択することができ、その後アプリケーション１８は第２動作モードに切り替え、ＭＣＵはアプリケーション・モードに切り替える。
普通の電話コールを移動局１と行うことができる。移動局１の他の全ての機能も使用可能である。本質的差違は、ユーザーが電話番号をキーパッド８から入力するとき、ＭＣＵはそのキー押下情報を第２動作モードのアプリケーションに送り、それがＭＣＵをガイドして接続を確立させることにある。
ユーザーが自分の銀行口座の残高を尋ねたい場合には、ユーザーは始めにキーパッド８を使用してメニュー機能を選択し、ＭＣＵはそのキー押下情報をアプリケーション１８に送る。アプリケーション１８はＭＣＵをガイドしてメニューをディスプレイ７に表示させ、それからユーザーは残高問い合わせを選択することができる。ユーザーがメニューから残高問い合わせを選択した後、ＭＣＵはそのキー押下をアプリケーション１８に送り、該アプリケーションはそれを検査してメッセージをＭＣＵへ送り、ＭＣＵはその時テキストをディスプレイ７に表示して、移動局１が残高問い合わせを行っていることをユーザーに知らせる。次に、該アプリケーションは、アプリケーション・モジュールのデータメモリーＥＥＰＲＯＭに保存されている残高を検索して、メッセージを作成し、それによりＭＣＵは残高をディスプレイ７に表示する。

前の例では、残高問い合わせは移動局のアプリケーション・モジュールのメモリーから行われた。これらの口座に基づくアプリケーションに特有なことは、移動局と銀行との間でデータを転送する必要があることである。何らかの理由からそのデータ転送に失敗すると、その口座問い合わせ又は更新を銀行側から“手操作”で行うことが必要となるかも知れない。ユーザーが例えばメニューを使って直接残高問い合わせを選択すると、移動局は、例えばショート・メッセージ・サービスＳＭＳを利用できるならば、それを使って残高問い合わせを銀行に送る。そのメッセージには、アプリケーション・モジュールのメモリーからの、該アプリケーションの口座の現在の残高が含まれている。従って、銀行が更新済み残高を戻すとき、好ましいことにアプリケーション・モジュールの口座と銀行の口座の双方の変化を考慮することができる。
移動局１のキーパッド８から適当な情報を入力することによって簡単に口座から支払いをすることができる。
次に、本発明の模範的実施例について説明をするが、その場合アプリケーション１８はキャッシュ・アプリケーションであり、これにより例えば商店やバスで支払いをすることができる。
アプリケーション１８は前の例で示されているように識別される。アプリケーション１８が第２動作モードに切り替えているとき、ユーザーは、移動局１と銀行のコンピュータ２２との接続を確立してお金を自分の口座からキャッシュ・アプリケーションに振り替えることができる。実際には、振り替えは電子的に行われ、それによりキャッシュカードの残高は増え、銀行口座の残高は減る。ユーザーは、支払いアプリケーションの銀行口座からキャッシュ・アプリケーションへ、或いはその逆に、移動局１で内部振り替えを行う。内部振り替えには、その振り替えに関する情報で銀行のコンピュータ２２を更新することが必要である。
支払いをするために、ユーザーは一定のコードを入力し、それによりユーザーは自分が買い物のために支払いをしたいということをアプリケーション１８に知らせる。その後、該アプリケーションは、ＭＣＵを通じて、ＩＲ送受信装置等の第１データ転送手段ＩＲとの接続を確立する。第２データ転送手段は商店のキャッシュレジスタ２１等に設けられ、この手段を通じてアプリケーション１８と該キャッシュレジスタのＥＰＯＳ（Electronic Point of Sale（電子販売所））端末アプリケーションは相互にデータ転送接続をすることができる。
接続が確立すると、ユーザーはキャッシュカードの識別番号を入力し、キャッシュカード・アプリケーションはそれを前もって保存されている識別番号と比較する。識別番号が正しく提示され、且つアプリケーション１８に充分な残高あれば、支払い取引はキャッシュレジスタ２１と移動局１のアプリケーション１８との両方で登録され、それに応じてキャッシュカードの残高は減らされる。コンピュータ２２に対するこの支払い取引の更新は、ＥＰＯＳアプリケーションから或いは移動局１のアプリケーション１８から行うことができる。
ＩＲデータ転送では、ＩＳＯのＯＳＩ（Open Systems interconnection（開放システム相互接続））モデルに基づくＩｒＤＡ（Infrared Data Association （赤外線データ協会））により定義されているプロトコル・スタック等の公知の規格を使用することが好ましい。このプロトコル・スタックは、ＯＳＩモデルの層、即ち１）物理層、２）データリンク層、３）ネットワーク層及び７）アプリケーション層、を使用する。
物理層では、赤外線によってデータ転送を行うことができるが、超音波、電磁誘導又は無線波等の他の公知のデータ転送方法を使用することもできる。
データ転送はデータリンク層で例えば誤り訂正アルゴリズムにより保護される。また、例えば多数のＥＰＯＳアプリケーションがある商店のような、多数のデータ転送手段が同時に使用される状況でデータ転送手段を識別するために、データリンク層の機能が使用される。
ネットワーク層では、データ転送手段を通るメッセージを、作動中のデータ転送手段の数に関わらず、受信装置に配給することができる。また、送るべき情報をネットワーク層で暗号化することができ、このことは支払いアプリケーションでは特に重要である。
アプリケーション１８はアプリケーション層を通してデータを転送することができ、この層でアプリケーション１８は、ＭＣＵを通して好ましくは第１データ転送手段ＩＲ又は無線通信網へのデータ転送のために必要な情報を送受信する。
同様に、キャッシュレジスタ２１（図６）等の、データ転送に関与する他の装置は、他のデータ転送手段ＩＲ２を通して受け取ったメッセージを上記の層構造に従って処理するＥＰＯＳ端末アプリケーションを有する。
図５は、アプリケーションＡＰＰＬＩＣＡＴＩＯＮと、移動サービス通信網の一部分である移動サービス交換センターＭＳＣとの間の電話コールの略図である。ステップ２００において、アプリケーションは、呼び出すべき電話番号を移動局１のＭＣＵへ送り、これは識別データと接続を確立するために必要な他のデータとを移動交換センターＭＳＣへ送る（ステップ２０１、２０２及び２０３）。交換センターＭＳＣは、そのコールの進行（ステップ２０４）と接続の状態（ステップ２０５）の情報を移動局１へ送り、その後に移動局１は接続の肯定応答をＭＳＣ（ステップ２０６）とアプリケーション１８（ステップ２０７）とへ送る。接続を終わらせるために、アプリケーション１８は接続終了コマンドを移動局１のＭＣＵへ送り（ステップ２０８）、ＭＣＵは接続終了要求を移動サービス交換センターへ送る（ステップ２０９）。ＭＳＣは接続終了肯定応答を移動局１のＭＣＵへ送る（ステップ２１０）。最後に、移動局１のＭＣＵは接続の終了の情報をアプリケーション１８へ送る（ステップ２１１）。
本発明の前の模範的実施例において、お金は、口座に蓄えられ、最終的には銀行のマネーサーバーに置かれている。従って、移動局及び銀行で残高を更新する必要があった。本発明の他の実施例では、電子マネーが移動局自体に蓄えられる。例えば駐車料金や電話料金を支払うためにこの種の電子マネー（“デジタルキャッシュ”とも呼ばれる）が使われるときには、それに対応する金額が移動局の電子マネー財布から減らされる。“デジタルキャッシュ”は、例えばコードワードとして移動局のメモリーに蓄えておくことのできるものである。支払いが行われるときに、支払い端末２１（図６）とマネーサーバー２２との間のリンクは不要である。
“デジタルキャッシュ”が無くなったり、もっと多く必要になったりしたら、移動局の電子マネー財布を再充填する必要がある。そうする方法が幾つかある。現実のお金とＡＴＭ（Automatic Teller Machine（自動窓口機））とによる方法に近い１つの方法は、最寄りの“デジタルキャッシュＡＴＭ”へ歩いて行って、お金を口座から下ろすという方法であろう。この種の“デジタルキャッシュＡＴＭ”が広く普及するまでには或る程度の時間がかかるであろうから、これは余り便利ではない。本発明は、“デジタルキャッシュ”の再充填を行う遥かに便利な方法を提供するものである。
ＳＭＳサービスを利用すれば、残高問い合わせに関して説明した本発明の前の実施例に近い方法を使って、銀行口座から移動局へ“デジタルキャッシュ”を振り替えることができる。移動局は、ユーザーの口座に責任を持つマネーサーバーに、“デジタルキャッシュ”を送れという要求を例えばＳＭＳメッセージとして送る。それに応じて、その口座に残高があれば、マネーサーバーは“デジタルキャッシュ”をその移動局に送り、それはメモリーに蓄えられる。
本発明の移動局が使用する通信網はＧＳＭだけには限定されないが、ＧＳＭは所要のデータ転送の可能性を与えるシステムの好例である。ＳＭＳメッセージを転送するときには通常の電話／データチャネルは有効ではないため、特にＧＳＭ通信網で利用できるＳＭＳメッセージは便利である。
支払いアプリケーションの他に、本発明の方法を他の種類のアプリケーションにも使用できる。例えば、時刻表、株価、為替相場等、の他の情報を収集し提示することなど。前述の例の各々を別々のアプリケーション・モジュールに実現することができ、或いは所望の機能及びアプリケーションを移動局向けの多機能アプリケーション・モジュールに盛り込むことができる。
図７は、２つの移動局１が第１データ転送手段ＩＲによって互いに通信するアプリケーションを示す。例えばデータ及び／又は音声を転送することができる。好ましいことに、第１データ転送手段ＩＲは、例えば対応するデータ転送手段ＩＲを有する移動可能なＰＣや無線ＬＡＮ（ローカルエリアネットワーク）にも移動局１を接続することを可能にする。
本発明の方法は、移動局１の効用を高める柔軟な手段を提供する。本発明の移動局１は、アプリケーション１８を製造し販売する供給者からの種々のサービスを利用することができる。クレジットカード会社にとっては、この様な方法はクレジットカードの悪用を減らす１つの方法である。
本発明は、上記の模範的実施例のみに限定されるものではなく、その詳細を、添付のクレームにより定義される範囲から逸脱せずに修正することができる。

  1. −・ アプリケーション
    ・ 該アプリケーションを使用するための手段；及び
    ・ データ転送を提供するための第１の手段；
    を内含する少なくとも１つの移動局、
    − データ転送を提供するための第２の手段を有し、この第２の手段が無線インタフェースを通してデータ転送を提供するために移動局の前記第１の手段に結合されている、少なくとも１つの支払い受信端末、
    を含んで成ることを特徴とし、
    支払い受信端末内で支払い取引を登録するため、データ転送を提供するための第１の手段と前記無線インタフェースを通したデータ転送を提供するための第２の手段の間でデータを転送する手段がアプリケーションに含まれている、支払い実施システム。
  2. 少なくとも１つの支払い受信端末にはキャッシュレジスタが含まれる、請求項１に記載の支払い実施システム。
  3. データ転送を提供するための第１の手段及びデータ転送を提供するための第２の手段の各々がＩＲトランシーバを内含している、請求項１に記載の支払い実施システム。

  12. 少なくとも１つの移動局が、さらにトランシーバを含み、前記トランシーバが、通信網に対し双方向結合されている、請求項１に記載の支払い実施システム。
  13. 第１のユーザー端末及び第２の端末を内含する支払いシステムを動作させる方法において、該第１のユーザー端末が少なくとも１つのアプリケーションを有し、
    − 支払いが第１のユーザー端末から第２の端末に対して行なわれることを規定する情報を第１のユーザー端末内に入力する段階；
    − 無線インタフェースを通して少なくとも１つのアプリケーションから第２の端末への通信リンクを確立する段階、及び
    − 第２の端末及び少なくとも１つのアプリケーションのうちの少なくとも１つのもので支払い取引を登録する段階、
    といった段階を含むことを特徴とする方法。
  14. 登録段階を実施するに先立ち、
    − 第１のユーザー端末内に識別情報を入力する段階；及び
    − 識別情報入力段階に応答して；
    ・入力された識別情報及び予め記憶された識別情報が類似であるか否かを決定するべく識別情報を予備記憶識別情報に比較する段階を第１のユーザー端末が実施し、類似である場合には登録段階が実施される段階、
    といった段階が実施される、請求項１３に記載の方法。
  15. 少なくとも１つのアプリケーションが付随する勘定残高を有し、前記支払い取引の額だけ付随する勘定残高を減額する段階がさらに含まれている、請求項１３に記載の方法。
  16. 減額段階の実施に先立ち、
    − 通信網から付随する勘定残高を表わす情報を受信する段階；及び
    − 第１のユーザー端末内に付随する勘定残高を表わす受信情報を記憶する段階、
    といったさらなる段階が実施される、請求項１５に記載の方法。
  17. 減額段階が予め定められた時間の発生に応答して実施される、請求項１５に記載の方法。
  18. 前記第２の端末が付随する勘定残高を有し、さらに前記支払い取引の額だけ付随する勘定残高を増額する段階がさらに含まれている、請求項１３に記載の方法。
  19. 第２の端末が電子販売時点情報管理システム（ＥＰＯＳ）を有し、増額段階が、ＥＰＯＳアプリケーションによって少なくとも一部分実施される、請求項１８に記載の方法。
  20. 増額段階が少なくとも１つのアプリケーションにより少なくとも部分的に実施される、請求項１８に記載の方法。
  21. 通信リンクが、ＩＲ通信リンク、超音波通信リンク、電磁誘導通信リンク及び無線波通信リンクのうちの少なくとも１つを内含する、請求項１３に記載の方法。
  22. 登録段階が、第２の端末と暗号化されたデータを交換する第１のユーザー端末によって実施される、請求項１３に記載の方法。
  23. 登録段階に先立ち、少なくとも１つのアプリケーションに付随する勘定が少なくとも１つの予め定められた残高を有することを確認する段階が実施され、登録段階は確認段階の実施に応答して実施される、請求項１３に記載の方法。
  24. 第２の端末にはキャッシュレジスタが含まれる、請求項１３に記載の方法。
  25. 少なくとも１つのアプリケーションが第１の不活動モードにあり、入力段階の実施に先立ち、
    − 第１のユーザー端末のためのコントローラを該少なくとも１つのアプリケーションに結合させる段階であって、該コントローラが通常は第１のマスター制御状態で動作し、第２のスレーブ状態で動作するように切換え可能であり、第１のマスター制御状態で、コントローラが第１のユーザー端末の動作を制御するためのマスターコントローラとして動作する、段階；
    − 少なくとも１つのアプリケーションを第２の能動オペレーティングモードで動作させるために、少なくとも１つのアプリケーションを活動化させる段階；
    − 活動化段階に応答して、コントローラの動作を第１のマスター制御状態からスレーブ状態に切換える段階；
    といったさらなる段階が実施され、
    第２のスレーブ状態でコントローラは少なくとも１つのアプリケーションの制御下で動作し、通信リンクは、前記コントローラ及び前記無線インタフェースを通して該少なくとも１つのアプリケーションから第２の端末まで確立されている、請求項１３に記載の方法。
  26. ユーザー勘定の残高を表わす情報が外部記憶デバイス内に記憶されており、かつ、
    − ユーザー勘定の残高を表わす情報が外部記憶デバイスから検索されることを要求する情報を第１のユーザー端末内にユーザーが入力する段階；
    − 第１のユーザー端末がユーザーの入力した情報を受信したのに応答して、ユーザー勘定の残高を表わす情報が第１のユーザー端末に提供されることを要求するメッセージを第１のユーザー端末から外部記憶デバイスへと伝達する段階；及び
    − 外部記憶デバイスから第１のユーザー端末へとユーザー勘定を表わす情報を提供する段階、
    といったさらなる段階が実施される、請求項１３に記載の方法。
  27. ユーザー勘定の残高を表わす情報が第１のユーザー端末のメモリー内に記憶されており、かつ、
    − ユーザー勘定の残高を表わす情報が検索されることを要求する情報を第１のユーザー端末内にユーザーが入力する段階；
    − 第１のユーザー端末がユーザーの入力した情報を受信したのに応答して、ユーザー勘定の残高を表わす情報をメモリーから検索する段階；及び
    − ユーザー勘定の残高を表わす情報をユーザーに提供する段階、
    といったさらなる段階が実施される、請求項１３に記載の方法。
  28. 少なくとも１つのアプリケーションが第１の残高をもつ第１のユーザー勘定に関するものであり、１つの外部記憶場所が第２の勘定をもつ第２のユーザー勘定を記憶し、
    − 外部記憶場所内に記憶された第２のユーザー勘定から第２の残高の少なくとも一部分を検索するべく第１のユーザー端末が外部記憶場所と通信する段階；及び
    − 第２のユーザー勘定から検索された第２の残高を増額する段階、
    といったさらなる段階が実施される、請求項１３に記載の方法。
  29. 第２のユーザー勘定から検索された第２の残高の一部分に等しい額だけ第２の残高を減額する段階をさらに含んで成る、請求項２８に記載の方法。
  30. 少なくとも１つのアプリケーションが１つの付随する勘定残高を有し、確立段階に先立ちかつ入力段階の実施に応えて前記支払い取引額だけ付随する勘定残高を減額するというさらなる段階が実施される、請求項１３に記載の方法。
  31. 少なくとも１つのアプリケーションが１つの付随する勘定残高を有し、確立段階に先立ちかつ入力段階の実施に応えて、第１のユーザー端末のメモリー内に支払い取引の値を表わす情報を記憶するというさらなる段階が実施される、請求項１３に記載の方法。
  32. 外部記憶場所が、第１のユーザー端末についての取引貸方値を規定する情報を記憶し、該取引貸方値が少なくとも前記支払い取引の値と同じであり、
    − 該外部記憶場所が第１のユーザー端末に対し取引貸方値を規定する情報を提供することを要求するメッセージ信号を、第１のユーザー端末が外部記憶場所に送る段階；
    − 外部記憶場所でメッセージ信号を受信する段階；
    − 外部記憶場所がメッセージ信号を受信したのに応答して、取引貸方値を規定する情報を第１のユーザー端末に対し転送する段階；
    − 第１のユーザー端末において取引貸方値を規定する情報を受信する段階；
    − 第１のユーザー端末が取引貸方値を規定する情報を受信したのに応答して、第１のユーザー端末内に、該取引貸方値を規定する情報を記憶する段階、
    がさらに含まれている、請求項１３に記載の方法。
  33. 外部記憶場所が通信網内部にある、請求項３２に記載の方法。
  34. メッセージ信号が、ショートメッセージサービス（ＳＭＳ）メッセージを内含する、請求項３２に記載の方法。
  35. 第１のユーザー端末が付随する勘定残高を有し、入力段階に先立ち、
    − 貸方ソースから第１のユーザー端末まで貸方値を表わす情報を提供する段階であって、該貸方値が少なくとも前記支払い取引の値と同じである段階；及び
    − 第１のユーザー端末に対して提供された貸方値だけ付随する勘定残高の値を増額する段階、
    といったさらなる段階が実施される、請求項１３に記載の方法。
  36. 登録段階が実施された後、前記支払い取引の値だけ付随する勘定残高の値を減額するというさらなる段階が実施される、請求項３５に記載の方法。
  37. 第１のユーザー端末に結合された外部アプリケーションモジュール内に少なくとも１つのアプリケーションが内含されており、入力段階に先立ち、外部アプリケーションモジュール内に貸方値を規定する情報を記憶するというさらなる段階が実施され、登録段階の実施後、支払い取引の値だけ貸方値を減額するべく貸方値を規定する情報を操作するというさらなる段階が実施される、請求項１３に記載の方法。
