前記基体は導電性の物質からできており、基体上に設けられた誘電体層 の導電性を局所的に増加させることによって、静電噴霧された物質の静電的 な電荷を中性化させるステップを有する、請求項3に記載の方法。 5. 前記誘電体層は光導電性物質からできており、この光導電性絶縁層を光 で局所的に照射することによって、前記誘電体層の導電性を局所的な増加さ せるステップを有する、請求項4に記載の方法。 6. 外部供給源から荷電したキャリアを注入することによって、前記誘電体 層を局所的に導電性にし、荷電したキャリアを前記誘電体層に局所的に注入 することによって、前記誘電体層の導電性を局所的に増加させるステップを 有する、請求項4に記載の方法。 7. 前記誘電体層は熱導電性物質からできており、前記誘電体層を局所的に 熱することによって、前記誘電体層の導電性を局所的に増加させるステップ を有する、請求項4に記載の方法。 8. 前記誘電体層に孔を開けることによって、導電性を局所的に増加させる ステップを有する、請求項4に記載の方法。 9. 生物学的機能および/または生物学的活性を有する不揮発性物質の基体 表面上における堆積物のサイズが、導電性を局所的に増加させたエリアのサ イズよりもかなり小さい、請求項4に記載の方法。 10. 前記堆積ステップが、基体上の予め定められた位置に、前述した生物学 的機能および/または生物学的活性を有する物質の堆積物を、静電場の制御 の下で、予め定められた形態及び形状に形成させるステップである、請求項 3に記載の方法。 11. 複数の限定された静電場を基体上に生成させ、複数の生物学的機能およ び/または生物学的活性を有する不揮発性物質を基体上に同時に堆積させる ステップを有する、請求項4に記載の方法。 12. 前記複数の限定された静電場の位置を移動させながら、前記静電噴霧ス テップ及び堆積ステップを繰り返す、請求項11に記載の方法。 13. それぞれが生物学的機能および/または生物学的活性を有する種々の不 揮発性物質を含む種々の溶液を、前記静電噴霧ステップ及び堆積ステップを 繰り返して堆積させる、請求項12に記載の方法。 14. 誘電体の保護遮蔽プレートを毛管の周りに配置して、静電噴霧された物 質を囲い込み、分散を防止するステップを有する、請求項2に記載の方法。 15. 前記誘電体の保護遮蔽プレートに孔が開いている、請求項14に記載の 方法。 16. 導電性を増加させた基体エリアの周りに、収束リングを設けるステップ を有する、請求項4に記載の方法。 17. 前記収束リングに電位を与えて、全電流の最大の割合が毛管から基体を 通して流れるようにして、安定した静電噴霧が達成できるようにするステッ プを有する、請求項16に記載の方法。 18. 堆積した生物学的機能および/または生物学的活性を有する不揮発性物 質が、フィルムを形成するステップを有する、請求項3に記載の方法。 19. 堆積した生物学的機能および/または生物学的活性を有する不揮発性物 質の前記フィルムが、丸くない形を有する、請求項18に記載の方法。 20. 静電噴霧前に基体上に導電性または半導電性の層を被着するステップを も有し、これによって、導電性または半導電性の層は、静電噴霧によるフィ ルムを堆積させるための表面を提供する、請求項18に記載の方法。 21. 生物学的機能および/または生物学的活性を有する不揮発性物質の前記 フィルムを、導電性または半導電性の層から剥離させるステップをも有する 、請求項20に記載の方法。 22. 前記導電性の層が、化学的または物理的に可溶な物質を含む、請求項2 1に記載の方法。 23. 前記導電性の層が、親水性ポリマーを含む、請求項22に記載の方法。 24. 静電噴霧された溶液が、安定剤をも含む、請求項2に記載の方法。 25. 生物学的機能および/または生物学的活性を有する不揮発性物質が、巨 大生体分子である、請求項2に記載の方法。 26. 生物学的機能および/または生物学的活性を有する不揮発性物質を含む 溶液が毛管から静電噴霧され、毛管を、コロナ放電を起こさずに静電噴霧を 機能させるのに十分な電位に設定するステップを有する、請求項2に記載の 方法。 27. 堆積した巨大生体分子の試料を架橋結合させるステップをも有する、請 求項25に記載の方法。 28. 巨大生体分子が蛋白質である、請求項27に記載の方法。 29. 静電噴霧された溶液が、可溶性の蛋白質安定剤をも含む、請求項28に 記載の方法。 30. 架橋結合した蛋白質フィルムから蛋白質安定剤を洗い流し、多孔質の蛋 白質フィルムを得るステップをも有する、請求項29に記載の方法。 31. 堆積した蛋白質フィルムと反応物とを接触させ、均一なフィルムを作成 するステップをも有する、請求項28に記載の方法。 32. 前記反応物は水蒸気である、請求項31に記載の方法。 33. 前記蛋白質を、クラスタの大きさが5から50ナノメートルの間の蛋白 質分子の微小クラスタとして堆積させるステップを有する、請求項28に記 載の方法。 34. 静電噴霧ステップを、約10から40%の湿度範囲の雰囲気中で行う、 請求項33に記載の方法。 35. 請求項33に記載の方法によって生成した蛋白質フィルムであって、堆 積した蛋白質分子の微小クラスタを、完全に結合してはいないが高密度に充 填させ、前記フィルムは、リガンドが浸透するのに十分なクラスタ間のチャ ネルを有するもの。 36. 前記溶液は、生物学的機能および/または生物学的活性を有する不揮発 性物質を含み、前記溶液の導電率が約500マイクロジーメンス/cm未満 である、請求項2に記載の方法。 37. 毛管を通過する電流が、約1から50nAの範囲に維持されるステップ を有する、請求項26に記載の方法。 38. 前記巨大生体分子が核酸分子である、請求項25に記載の方法。 39. 静電噴霧されたフィルムが堆積される表面が、低い導電性を有する基体 の表面である、請求項18に記載の方法。 40. 前記静電噴霧されたフィルムが堆積される表面が、多孔質である、請求 項39に記載の方法。 41. 静電噴霧され、堆積した物質相互の間、または静電噴霧され、堆積した 物質と基体上に存在する分子との間における、分子間の反応を防止させるス テップをも含む、請求項2に記載の方法。 42. 蛋白質溶液を静電噴霧することによって基体上に形成された蛋白質フィ ルムであって、0.4ミクロンから20ミクロンの範囲の厚さであり、フィ ルムの厚さが±10%以内の均一性を有するもの。 43. 前記蛋白質フィルムが、大きさ5nmから50nmまでの蛋白質分子の クラスタを含む、請求項42に記載の蛋白質フィルム。 44. 蛋白質分子クラスタを、完全には結合させずに高密度に充填させ、蛋白 質フィルムは、リガンドが浸透するのに十分なクラスタ間のチャネルを有す る、請求項43に記載の蛋白質フィルム。 45. 基体と、前記基体上に生物学的機能および/または生物学的活性を有す る種々の物質を静電噴霧させた多数の堆積物とを含む試料であって、各堆積 物の大きさが7ミクロン未満であるもの。 46. 種々の物質の静電噴霧させた堆積物を、1インチ平方あたり200,0 00を越える密度で形成させた、請求項45に記載の試料。 47. 生物学的機能および/または生物学的活性を有する不揮発性物質を含む 溶液を静電噴霧することによって、生物学的機能および/または生物学的活 性を有する不揮発性物質の試料を、基体の堆積エリア上に堆積させる装置で あって、前記装置は、 ガスで満たされた空間内で、溶液から生物学的機能および/または生物学 的活性を有する不揮発性物質を含む、荷電粒子の噴霧を生成する静電噴霧装 置と、 選択的に照射したり、または照射しなかったりすることによって、基体表 面の堆積エリア上で、荷電粒子を引き付ける第1電位と、堆積エリア以外の 基体表面のエリア上で荷電粒子を引き付けない第2電位とを生成する電気感 光的な手段と、を含むもの。 48. 前記基体に接続された第1の静電装置を含む、請求項47に記載の装置 。 49. 前記基体の表面の下側に間隔を置いて配置されたマスクを含む、請求項 47に記載の装置。 50. マスクを通過して基体上の堆積エリアを光のパターンで照射するための 光源を含む、請求項49に記載の装置。 51. 生物学的機能および/または生物学的活性を有する不揮発性物質を含む 溶液の静電噴霧によって、生物学的機能および/または生物学的活性を有す る不揮発性物質の試料を、基体の堆積エリア上に堆積させる装置であって、 前記装置は、 ガスで満たされた空間内で、前記溶液から、生物学的機能および/または 生物学的活性を有する不揮発性物質を含む荷電粒子の噴霧を生成する静電噴 霧装置と、 堆積エリアの近くの基体表面上を、荷電粒子を引き付ける第1の電位に保 持する第1の静電装置と、 荷電粒子を反撥する電位に保持され、基体表面の上方に間隔を置いて配置 され、堆積エリアの上方に位置してそこを通過させる孔を有するマスクと、 を含み、 前記マスクの孔の大きさを、前記距離に対して予め定められた比率とし、 前記予め定められた比率と第1電位と第2電位とが、前記孔のある部分で電 場を生成させ、これによって荷電粒子を収束させ、堆積エリアが、前記孔よ りも小さいものとなるように構成されたもの。 52. 前記マスクが、荷電粒子からの電荷を取り入れることによって、前記第 2の電位に到達する、請求項51に記載の装置。 53. 非導電性材料の表面が荷電粒子を吸着して、前記第2電位が荷電粒子の 噴霧を反撥するようなした、請求項52に記載の装置。 54. 前記マスクが非導電性材料からできている、請求項53に記載の装置。 55. 前記マスクが導電性材料からできている、請求項53に記載の装置。 56. 前記マスクが導電性材料からできている、請求項51に記載の装置。 57. 前記マスクを第2の電位に保持させる第2静電装置を含む、請求項56 に記載の装置。 58. 荷電粒子を或る堆積エリアへ堆積させた後、基体表面上の他の部分が次 の堆積エリアになるように、マスクを基体に対して平行に移動させるマスク 移動装置を含む、請求項51に記載の装置。 59. 距離を隣の孔との間隔よりも短くした、請求項59に記載の装置。 63. 毛管先端から離れる荷電粒子と同じ極性の電位を有し、毛管先端とほぼ 同じレベルに位置し、荷電粒子を反撥する電荷で静電噴霧放電ゾーンを囲う 保護リングを含み、これによって静電噴霧中の拡散を防止する、請求項51 に記載の装置。 64. コロナ放電からの逆極性イオンの流れによって、基体表面において周期 的に電荷を再注入させる手段を含む、請求項51に記載の装置。 65. 遮蔽されたチャンバーにおいてマイクロ電極の配列を含み、周期的に電 荷を再注入させる手段を具える、請求項64に記載の装置。 66. 噴霧物質の周りに配置される非導電性の保護遮蔽プレートを含む、請求 項51に記載の装置。 67. 前記保護遮蔽プレートに孔が付いている、請求項66に記載の装置。 68.
