Description
Jodonium- und Sulfoniumsalze absorbieren bekanntlich Ultraviolettlicht
nur bei Wellenlängen unterhalb etwa 300 nm,
wobei ihre Absorptionsspektren im wesentlichen unabhängig vom anionischen Teil des Moleküls sind. Diese begrenzte
spektrale Empfindlichkeit beschränkt ihre Verwendbarkeit als Photoinitiatoren in photpempfindlichen Massen. In der Drucktechnik,
z.B. bei der Herstellung von Druckplatten, wird ein photographisches Filmnegativ zwischen der Lampe und der
photoempfindlichen Platte angeordnet. Dieses Filmnegativ verhindert den Durchtritt von Licht mit einer Wellenlänge
von weniger als etwa 340 nm. Auch bei der Verwendung von photoempfindlichen Massen als photohärtbaren überzügen nimmt
die Intensität von Licht mit einer Wellenlänge von weniger als etwa 300 nm beim Durchtritt durch den überzug aufgrund
der Lichtabsorption durch die in dem überzug vorhandenen monomeren Verbindungen, Pigmente, Bindemittel etc. ab. In
jedem Fall wird die Eignung von Sulfonium- und Jodonium-Photoinitiatoren
aufgrund ihrer begrenzten spektralen Empfindlichkeit beeinträchtigt.
Obwohl Dutzende von Farbstoffklassen und anderen Materialien
• bekannt sind, die sich zur Verbreiterung der spektralen Empfindlichkeit von photoempfindlichen Massen eignen, war
keine Voraussage darüber möglich, welche Materialien sich zur Sensibilisierung von aromatischen Jodonium- und Sulfoniumsalzen
eignen wurden. Tatsächlich wurde gefunden, daß nur bestimmte Materialien zur Sensibilisierung dieser aromatischen
Salze verwendbar sind. So ist z.B. eine bekannte und viel", verwende te Klasse von Energieübertragungs-Sensibilisatoren,
die sogenannten Triplettsensibilisatoren, wie Benzophenon oder Acetophenon, für die Sensibilisierung von aromatischen
Sulfonium- und Jodoniumsalzen nur wenig geeignet.

Verbindungen beschrieben, die als Sensibilisatoren für SuIfonium-Photoinitiatoren verwendbar sind. In der
US-PS 4 026 705 sind Sensibilisatoren für Jodonium-Photoinitiatoren
beschrieben.
. - Gegenstand der Erfindung sind photoempfindliche Mischungen,
die eine aromatische Jodonium- oder Sulfoniumverbindüng und
. einen Sensibilisator aus der Gruppe der Polyarylene, PoIy- : arylpolyerie, 2,5-Diphenylisobenzofurane, 2,5-Diarylcyclo-
■ pentadiene, DiaryIfurane, Diarylthiofurane, Diarylpyrrole,
Polyary!phenylene, Cumarine und Polyaryl-2-pyrazoline enthal

Sensibilisierte aromatische Sulfoniumverbindungen haben zahl
reiche Vorteile, z.B. erhöhen sie in photoempfindlichen Massen,
die Geschwindigkeit der Lichthärtung und es können
sicherere und billigere Belichtungslampen verwendet werden.
Erfindungsgemäß verwendbare aromatische Sulfoniumverbindungen

Obwohl die Natur des Anions X für die Zwecke der Erfindung, d.h. für die Sensibilisierung des SuIfoniumkations, nicht
kritisch ist, sind für zahlreiche Anwendungsgebiete aromatische Sulfoniumverbindungen in Form eines Komplexsalzes bevorzugt,
bei dem X ein Tetrafluoroborat-, Hexafluorophosphat-,
Hexafluoroarsenat-, Hexafluoroantimonat- oder Hydroxypentafluoroantimonat-Anion
ist, z.B. für die Photoinitiierung von kationisch polymerisierbaren Materialien, wie Epoxidharzen

Aromatische Sulfoniumsa.lze sind bekannt. Triaryl-substituierte
Sulfoniumverbindungen lassen sich z.B.. nach den Verfahren von C. H. Wiegand et al., "Synthesis and Reactions of
Triarylsulfonium Halides", J. Org. Chem., Bd. 33, S. 2671-75
(1968) herstellen. Alkyl-substituierte aromatische Sulfoniumsalze
können auch nach den Verfahren von K. Okhubo et al., J. Org. Chem., Bd. 36, S. 3149-55 (1971) hergestellt werden.
Ein bevorzugtes Verfahren zur Herstellung von Triaryl-substituierten Sulfoniumverbindungen, aus denen komplexe SuIfoniumsalze
hergestellt werden können, ist in der US-PS 2 807 648 beschrieben. Die komplexen Sulfoniumsalze werden
aus den entsprechenden Einfachsalzen erhalten, z.B. den Bisulfaten
oder Halogeniden, indem man sie mit einem Metall- oder Ammoniumsalz oder der Säure des gewünschten Komplexanions
umsetzt.

Die Sulfonium-Komplexsalze sind mit mindestens einem, vorzugsweise
drei aromatischen Resten substituiert. Spezielle Reste sind aromatische Reste mit 4 bis 20 Kohlenstoffatomen
aus der Gruppe der Phenyl-, Thienyl- und Furanylgruppen. Diese
aromatischen Reste können gegebenenfalls einen oder mehrere ankondensierte Benzoringe aufweisen, wie z.B. die
Naphthyl-, Benzothienyl-, D'ibenzothienyl-, Benzofuranyl- oder Dibenzofuranylgruppe. Die aromatischen Reste können gegebenenfalls
auch durch eine oder mehrere der folgenden Gruppen oder durch andere Gruppen, die mit den anderen, in
der jeweiligen Masse, in der das Komplexsalz verwendet wird, vorhandenen Komponenten nicht reagieren, substituiert sein:

Unter den erfindungsgemäß verwendeten aromatischen Sulfonium-Komplexsalzen
sind die Triaryl-substituierten Salze, z.B. Triphenylsulfoniumhexafluorophosphat, p-(PhenyIthio)-phenyldiphenylsulfoniumhexafluoroantimonat
und Triphenylsulfoniumhexaf luoroantimonat, besonders bevorzugt. Die Triaryl-substituierten
Salze sind nämlich thermisch stabiler als die Mono- und Diaryl-substituierten Salze, so daß sie in
härtbaren Einpackungssystemen verwendet werden können, bei
denen eine lange Lagerbeständigkeit erwünscht ist. Die Triaryl-substituierten
Komplexsalze sind auch der erfindungsgemäßen Farbstoffsensibilisierung eher zugänglich.

Die Menge des in den erfindungsgemäßen photopolymerisierbaren
Massen enthaltenen latenten photokatalytischen Oniumsalzes ist nicht kritisch, beträgt jedoch etwa 0,01 bis
10,0, vorzugsweise 0,1 bis 5 Gewichtsprozent, bezogen auf
™ das Gesamtgewicht des polymerisierbaren Materials. Höhere
Oniumsalzmengen bewirken im allgemeinen keine erhöhte Polymerisation
und geringere Mengen verursachen einen verringerten Polymerisationsgrad. Die erfindungsgemäßen Massen werden
dadurch hergestellt, daß man das Oniumsalz mit dem
™ polymerisierbaren Material vermischt, bis eine Lösung entstanden
ist. Da einige Oniumsalze in der polymerisierbaren Masse nur beschränkt löslich sind, löst man vorzugsweise das
Oniumsalz in einem flüssigen Verdünnungsmittel, das gegenüber den Komponenten der Masse inert ist, und vermischt dann
diese Lösung mit dem polymerisierbaren Gemisch. Geeignete inerte Verdünnungsmittel sind z.B. Alkohole, wie Äthanol,
Ketone, wie Aceton, und Halogenkohlenwasserstoffe, wie Dichlormethan.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Massen eignen sich zur Herstellung von
Überzügen auf verschiedenen Substraten, jedoch auch von Klebstoffen,
Dichtungsmassen, Bindemitteln und Kautschuken, insbesondere wenn diese Materialien in situ durch Bestrahlung polymerisiert werden sollen. Die erfindungsgemäßen Mas-
sen können auf die Substrate durch Sprühen, Streichen', Tauchen,
Walzen, Gießen oder auf beliebige andere Weise aufgebracht werden.
Die erfindungsgemäßen Massen können auch bestimmte Additive
enthalten, um die Eigenschaften des polymerisierten oder gehärteten
Produkts zu modifizieren. Geeignete Zusätze sind

z.B. Farbstoffe, Pigmente, Weichmacher und Füllstoffe, solange
diese Materialien das ausreichende Eindringen der durch den Sensibilisator absorbierten Strahlung in die Masse nicht
verhindern.

Die Polymerisation bzw. Härtung der Masse ist eine getriggerte
Reaktion, d.h. nach dem Auslösen der Zersetzung des photokatalytischen Oniumsalzes laufen die Polymerisation bzw.
Härtung ab, selbst wenn die Bestrahlung abgebrochen wird. 1Ö pie Anwendung von Wärmenergie während oder nach der Bestrahlung
beschleunigt die Polymerisation bzw. Härtung wesentlich.
Die sensibilisierten aromatischen Jodonium- und Sulfonium-
^ Komplexsalze eignen sich allgemein als Photoinitiatoren
für kationische Reaktionen, z.B. zur Polymerisation von kationisch polymerisierbaren Monomeren. Sensibilisierte Komplexsralze,
die geeignete Anionen aufweisen, eignen sich z.B. insbesondere als Photoinitiatoren für die Polymerisation
oder Copolymerisation von kationisch polymerisierbaren Monomeren, z.B. Epoxiden (Epoxidharzen), Epoxiden und PoIyolen,
Oxetanen, Vinyläthern oder Lactonen. Die sensibilisierten Komplexsalze können auch als Photoinitiatoren, für die
radikalische Polymerisation, z.B. zur Polymerisation von
^5 Vinyl- oder Acrylmonomeren und anderen Monomeren, wie
Äcrylatestern, Acrylamidestern, Acrylnitril, Styrol, Butadien oder Vinylidenverbindungen, sowie zur hydrolytischen Polymerisation
von Silanen (z.B. US-PS 4 101 513) verwendet werden.
Die erfindungsgemäß angewandte Sensibilisatormenge beträgt
üblicherweise etwa 0,01 bis 10, vorzugsweise etwa 0,1 bis 1 Gewichtsteil Sensibilisator pro Teil des aromatischen
Komplexsalzes. Bei der Bestimmung der Sensibilisatormenge zu berücksichtigende Faktoren sind z.B. die Bedingungen der
Lichtbestrahlung, die Dicke der zu härtenden Masse, die Löslichkeit
des Sensibilisators in der Masse und andere

Faktoren, die normalerweise bei der Verwendung von Sensibilisatoren
zu berücksichtigen sind. Selbstverständlich können mehr als ein Photoinitiator und/oder Sensibilisator in einer
Masse verwendet werden.
Die erfindungsgemäß verwendeten Sensibilisatoren sind
fluoreszierende PoIyarylverbindungen aus der Gruppe der
Polyarylene, Polyary!polyene, 2,5-Diphenyl-isobenzofurane,,

Die Beispiele erläutern die Erfindung. Alle Teile beziehen
sich auf das Gewicht, sofern nichts anderes angegeben ist.
Beispiele 1 bis 9
Aus 50 Teilen einer 5gewichtsprozentigen Lösung von Polyvinylbutyral
in Tetrahydrofuran, 0,5 Teil 3,4-Epoxycyclohexylmethyl-3,4-epoxycyclohexancarboxylat
und 0,2 Teile Diphenyljodcniumhexafluorophosphat wird eine Vorratslösung herge-.25
stellt. 5 Teile dieser Lösung werden mit 5 χ 1O Mol eines erfindungsgemäßen Sensibilisators versetzt. Diese Lösungen
werden dann mit einer Rakel auf einen Polyester-Filmträger

aufgebracht (5x10 mm naß) und 5 Minuten in einem Ofen bei 60 C getrocknet. Die getrockneten Filmproben werden dann ^O mit einer 500 Watt-Ultra ν iolettlampe in einem Abstand von 17,8 cm durch einen photographischen Stufenkeil, der mit der Filmseite der Probe in Kontakt steht, belichtet. Nach dem Belichten wird jede Probe gründlich mit Methanol besprüht, um lösliche unpolymerisierte Materialien auszuwasehen. In Tabelle I ist unter der jeweiligen Belichtungszeit die Anzahl von festen unlöslichen Stufen angegeben, die nach
aufgebracht (5x10 mm naß) und 5 Minuten in einem Ofen bei 60 C getrocknet. Die getrockneten Filmproben werden dann ^O mit einer 500 Watt-Ultra ν iolettlampe in einem Abstand von 17,8 cm durch einen photographischen Stufenkeil, der mit der Filmseite der Probe in Kontakt steht, belichtet. für die -Härtungsgeschwindigkeit und Empfindlichkeit der Lö
sungen dar.

Beispiele 10 bis 15
Aus 20 Teilen eines Epoxykresol-Novolakharzes (Schmelzpunkt
85.bis 900C; Epoxid-Äquivl^ent/235), 30 Teilen Aceton und
0,4 Teil Triphenylsulfoniumhexafluorophosphat wird eine Vorratslösung
hergestellt. 5 Teile dieser Lösung werden mit 0,013 Teil verschiedener erfindungsgemäßer Sensibilisatoren
versetzt. Die Lösungen werden dann wie in den Beispielen 1 bis 9 aufgetragen, getrocknet und belichtet. In Tabelle II
ist die Anzahl der festen Stufen angegeben, die nach gründli chem Waschen mit Aceton zurückbleiben.

In der Vorratslösung der Beispiele 1 bis 9 werden 0,2 g
Diphenyljodoniumhexafluoroarsenat anstelle des dort genannten Photoinitiators verwendet. 5 Teile dieser Lösung werden
mit jeweils 0,01 Teil eines erfindungsgemäßen Sensibilisator s versetzt. Die Losungen werden dann wie in den Beispielen
1 bis 9 aufgetragen, getrocknet und belichtet. In Tabelle III ist die Anzahl der Festen Stufen angegeben, die nach dem
Waschen mit Methanol zurückbleiben.

eines erfindungsgemäßen Sensibilisators versetzt. Die Lösungen werden dann wie in den Beispielen 1 bis 9 aufgetragen,

5 Teile eines Bisphenol A-Diglycidyläther-Epoxidharzes mit
einem Epoxid-Äquivalentgewicht von 178 werden mit 2 Gewichtsprozent eines 5O/5O-Gemisches von Triphenylsulfoniumhexafluoroantimonat
und (p-Phenylthiophenyl)-diphenylsulfoniumhexafluoroantimonat
versetzt. Diese Lösung wird dann wie in den Beispielen 1 bis 9 aufgetragen. Proben dieser überzüge
werden mit einer 275 Watt-Sonnenlampe in einem Abstand von

12,7 cm durch ein Corning Glass - Filter Nr. 0-52, das nur Licht
mit einer Wellenlänge von mehr als 334 nm durchläßt, bestrahlt. Die zur Erzielung einer klebfreien Oberfläche (S)
und eines klebfreien unteren Bereiches (L) erforderlichen
Belichtungszeiten werden bestimmt und sind in Tabelle V
angegeben.

Das Verfahren der Beispiele 36 bis 45 wird wiederholt, jedoch verwendet man 3,4-Epoxycyclohexylmethyl-3, 4-epoxycyclo-20
hexancarboxylat anstelle des Epoxidharzes und ein 50/50-Gemisch
von Triphenylsulfoniumhydroxypentafluoroantimonat
und (p-Phenylthiophenyl)-diphenylsulfoniumhydroxypentafluoroantimonat
als Photoinitiator. Die Ergebnisse sind in Tabelle VI genannt.

und 0,8 Teil Di-(p-tolyl)-jodoniumhexafluoroäntimonat
wird eine Vorratslösung hergestellt. 5 g-Anteile
der Vorratslösung werden mit einer Rakel auf einen Polyester-
film aufgetragen (5,08 χ 10 mm naß ). Die Proben werden
durch das vorstehend beschriebene Glasfilter Nr. 0-52 belichtet,
das nur Licht einer Wellenlänge von mehr als 334 nm
durchläßt. Es werden dieselbe Lampe und derselbe Abstand wie in den Beispielen 36 bis 40 angewandt. Die Ergebnisse sind
in Tabelle VII genannt.

einer CoIight-Belichtungsvorrichtung erfolgt/ die eine

Claims (12)
1. ■Sensibilisierte Jodonium- und Sulfonium-Photoinitiatorsysterne,
enthaltend 1 Teil eines Sulfonium- oder Jodonium-Photoinitiators in Kombination mit 0,01 bis 10 Teilen einer
Verbindung aus der Gruppe der Polyarylene, Polyarylpolyene,
2,5-Diphenylisobenzofurane, 2,5-Diarylfurane, 2,5-Diarylthiofurane,
2,5-Diarylpyrrole, 2,5-Diary!cyclopentadiene,
Polyarylphenylene, Cumarine und Polyaryl-2-pyrazoline.

8. Photoinitiatorsystem nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 7,
dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es außerdem mindestens ein radikalisch polymerisierbares Monomer enthält, wobei der Photoinitiator
0,01 bis 10 Gewichtsprozent des Monomers ausmacht.
9. Photoinitiatorsystem nach einem der Ansprüche 1 bis 7, dadurch gekennzeichnet, daß es außerdem mindestens ein
kat.ionisch polymerisierbares Monomer enthält, wobei der
Photoinitiator 0,01 bis 10 Gewichtsprozent des Monomers ausmacht.
10. Photoinitiatorsystem nach Anspruch 9, dadurch gekennzeichnet,
daß das kationisch polymerisierbare Monomer ein
polymerisierbares Epoxidharz ist.
