図1に示す車両3は、内燃機関4と電動機5が直列に接続された駆動装置6(以下、前輪駆動装置と呼ぶ。)を車両前部に有するハイブリッド車両であり、この前輪駆動装置6の動力がトランスミッション7を介して前輪Wfに伝達される一方で、この前輪駆動装置6と別に車両後部に設けられた駆動装置1(以下、後輪駆動装置と呼ぶ。)の動力が後輪Wr(RWr、LWr)に伝達されるようになっている。前輪駆動装置6の電動機5と後輪Wr側の後輪駆動装置1の第1及び第2電動機2A、2Bは、バッテリ9に接続され、バッテリ9からの電力供給と、バッテリ9へのエネルギー回生が可能となっている。図1中、符号8は車両全体を制御するための制御装置である。
図2は、後輪駆動装置1の全体の縦断面図を示すものであり、図3は、図2の上部部分拡大断面図である。同図において、符号11は、後輪駆動装置1のケースであり、ケース11は、車幅方向略中央部に配置される中央ケース11Mと、中央ケース11Mを挟むように中央ケース11Mの左右に配置される側方ケース11A、11Bと、から構成され、全体が略円筒状に形成される。ケース11の内部には、後輪Wr用の車軸10A、10Bと、車軸駆動用の第1及び第2電動機2A、2Bと、この電動機2A、2Bの駆動回転を減速する第1及び第2変速機としての第1及び第2遊星歯車式減速機12A、12Bとが、同一軸線上に配置されている。この車軸10A、第1電動機2A及び第1遊星歯車式減速機12Aは左後輪LWrを駆動制御し、車軸10B、第2電動機2B及び第2遊星歯車式減速機12Bは右後輪RWrを駆動制御する。車軸10A、第1電動機2A及び第1遊星歯車式減速機12Aと、車軸10B、第2電動機2B及び第2遊星歯車式減速機12Bは、ケース11内で車幅方向に左右対称に配置されている。
バッフルプレート47A、47Bは、それぞれ薄板状の側壁部47aが下端で開口した略円環形状を有してなり、側壁部47aの外縁を囲うようにリブ47bが設けられている。また、側壁部47aは、上方が外径側に延設されて第1円筒壁43と中央ケース11Mの外壁との間の空間又は第2円筒壁44と中央ケース11Mの外壁との間の空間を遊星歯車式減速機12A又は遊星歯車式減速機12Bから区画するように構成され、その上方外縁からは直交方向から僅かに下方に傾くように天板47cが延設されている。天板47cの中央には、周方向両側に対し天板47cの長さが短くなるように切欠き47dが設けられ、切欠き47dや天板47cの先端部を介してケース11内の空気がブリーザ室41に導入するように構成される。天板47cには、切欠き47dの両側に、凹状に窪んだ溝部47eが設けられている。バッフルプレート47A、47Bは、側壁部47aの上方に設けられた2ヶ所のボルト孔47fとリブ47bの下方に設けられた2ヶ所の取り付け片47gのボルト孔47fとにボルト48で中央ケース11Mに固定される。
特に、リングギヤ24Aの鉛直方向最上部の上方を含むように形成されるブリーザ室41の少なくとも一部と、リングギヤ24Aの鉛直方向最下部の下方を含むように形成されるストレーナ収容室86の少なくとも一部と、がオフセットスペースOS内に配置されるので、駆動装置1を鉛直方向において小型化することができる。
次に、本発明に係る第2実施形態の車両用駆動装置について図10~図12に基づいて説明する。なお、第2実施形態の車両用駆動装置は、第1実施形態の車両用駆動装置1と基本的構成を同一にし、一方向クラッチ50と油圧ブレーキ60の位置が相違しており、ここでは相違部分についてのみ詳細に説明し、同一部分については説明を省略する。
ただし、本実施形態においても、ブリーザ室41の少なくとも一部と、ストレーナ収容室86の少なくとも一部とは、それぞれ同一円周上でオフセットスペースOS内の遊星歯車式減速機12A,12Bのいずれかの側に寄せて配置される。
また、電動機2A、2Bの出力軸と車軸10A、10Bとは同軸上に配置される必要はない。
また、前輪駆動装置6を内燃機関4を用いずに電動機5を唯一の駆動源とするものでもよい。
本実施形態では、左側方ケース11Aと中央ケース11Mとで第1ケース11Lを、また、右側方ケース11Bと中央ケース11Mとで第2ケース11Rをそれぞれ構成している。しかしながら、本発明の第1ケース11Lは、第1電動機2A及び第1遊星歯車式減速機12Aを収容し、左貯留部RLを有するものであれば、また、第2ケース11Rは、第2電動機2B及び第2遊星歯車式減速機12Bを収容し、右貯留部RRを有するものであれば、この構成に限定されるものでない。

- 前記キャリアは、前記サンギヤと噛合する大径ピニオンと、大径ピニオンより小径でリングギヤと噛合する小径ピニオンとから構成される2連ピニオンを支持し、
前記一方向動力伝達手段は前記リングギヤの径方向外方に配置されることを特徴とする請求項21に記載の車両用駆動装置。
