Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1.0.002インチ未満の厚みを有する多孔性フルオロポリマーフィルムの製造方 法であって: a)未焼結フルオロポリマーフィルムを提供する工程; b)該未焼結フルオロポリマーフィルムを少なくとも1軸方向に延伸する工程 ; c)少なくとも1方向で該フィルムを拘束して該フィルムの該拘束方向での収 縮を防ぎながら、該延伸されたフルオロポリマーフィルムを焼結する工程;およ び d)先に延伸および焼結された該フィルムを少なくとも1軸方向に伸張して、 該フィルムの厚みを0.001インチ未満に減少させる工程; を包含する、方法。 2.前記工程a)が、 押出可能なフルオロポリマーペーストを調製する工程; 該フルオロポリマーペーストを押出して、前記未焼結フルオロポリマーフィル ムを形成する工程;および 該未焼結フルオロポリマーフィルムを乾燥する工程、 を包含する、請求項1に記載の方法。 3.前記工程aがさらに、前記押出フルオロポリマーフィルムを乾燥する前にカ レンダリングする工程を包含する、請求項2に記載の方法。 4.前記「押出フルオロポリマーフィルムを乾燥する前にカレンダリングする」 工程が、該押出フルオロポリマーフィルムを0.002インチを下回らない厚みまで カレンダリングする工程を包含する、請求項3に記載の方法。 5.前記フルオロポリマーフィルムの前記カレンダリングを行って、該フルオロ ポリマーフィルムの厚みを0.002〜0.005インチにさせる、請求項4に記載の方法 。 6.前記フルオロポリマーがPTFEである、請求項1に記載の方法。 7.前記工程aが、 90%を超える結晶化度を有するある量のPTFE微粉末をある量の液体潤滑剤と混 合して、押出可能なPTFEペーストを提供することにより、PTFEペーストを調製す る工程; 該ペーストを押出して未焼結フィルム押出物を形成する工程; 該未焼結フィルム押出物をカレンダリングする工程;および 該未焼結フィルム押出物を乾燥して、乾燥未焼結PTFEフィルムを提供する工程 を包含する、請求項6に記載の方法。 8.前記乾燥工程が、乾燥させるには十分な温度であるが前記フルオロポリマー の結晶融点を超えない温度まで、前記フィルムを加熱する工程を包含する、請求 項2に記載の方法。 9.前記工程bが、前記未焼結フィルムを2:1〜100:1の範囲の延伸比で 1軸延伸する工程を包含する、請求項1に記載の方法。 10.前記工程cが、前記フルオロポリマーの結晶融点より高い温度まで、該フ ルオロポリマーの熱分解温度に達することなく前記フルオロポリマーフィルムを 加熱し、そしてフルオロポリマーの実質的に完全な焼結を起こすのに十分な期間 、そのような加熱を維持する工程を包含し、該フルオロポリマーの完全な焼結が 、示差走査熱量計で測定したとき未焼結フルオロポリマーの初期吸熱ピーク下の 領域が少なくとも90%減少することによって特徴付けられる、請求項1に記載 の方法。 11.前記工程cが、PTFEの前記結晶融点より高いがPTFEの前記熱分解温度より 低い温度まで、PTFEの実質的に完全な焼結を起こすに十分な期間、前記PTFEフィ ルムを加熱する工程を包含し、該PTFEの実質的に完全な焼結が、示差走査熱量計 で測定したとき未焼結PTFEの初期吸熱ピーク下の領域が少なくとも90%減少す ることによって特徴付けられる、請求項6に記載の方法。 12.前記工程dが、単一の焼結後フィルム伸張工程を包含する、請求項1に記 載の方法。 13.前記工程dが、一連の焼結後フィルム伸張工程を包含する、請求項1に記 載の方法。 14.前記工程dが、工程eの焼結前延伸の間にフィルムが延伸されたのと同じ 延伸軸方向での伸張工程を包含する、請求項1に記載の方法。 15.前記方法の工程bおよびcが、前記フィルムを縦方向配向装置に通すこと によって行われる請求項1に記載の方法であって、該装置が、該フィルムの焼結 の間の該フィルムの長手方向の収縮を防ぐに十分な長手方向の張力をかけながら 該フィルムを延伸かつ焼結する、方法。 16.前記工程dが、延伸および焼結されたフィルムを引き続き縦方向配向装置 に少なくともさらに1回通す工程を包含し、その間、該フィルムが該縦方向配向 装置を通って進む速度を、工程dの前記焼結後伸張が行われるように制御する、 請求項15に記載の方法。 17.乾燥、延伸および焼結された前記フィルムを縦方向配向装置にさらに1回 から5回通して、工程dの前記焼結後伸張を達成する、請求項16に記載の方法 。 18.請求項1に記載の方法によって製造される、多孔性フルオロポリマーフィ ルム。 19.請求項6に記載の方法によって製造される、多孔性PTFEフィルム。 20.請求項10に記載の方法によって製造される、多孔性フルオロポリマーフ ィルム。 21.請求項11に記載の方法によって製造される、多孔性PTFEフィルム。 22.前記縦方向配向装置が、前記フィルムがその上を通って乾燥される、乾燥 ローラー;および該フィルムがその上を通って焼結および加熱される、焼結/加 熱ローラーを備え、そしてここで: 該縦方向配向装置を通るフィルムの第1回目のパスの間、該乾燥ローラーの表 面温度が約300℃であり、そして該焼結/加熱ローラーの表面温度が約365℃であ り;そして 該縦方向配向装置を通るフィルムの第2回目以降のパスの間、該乾燥ローラー の表面温度が約300℃であり、そして該焼結/加熱ローラーの表面温度が約330℃ である、請求項16に記載の方法。
