Description

【発明の詳細な説明】
〔産業上の利用分野〕 本発明は、データ・エデイタに係り、特にユー
ザが編集のためにグラフイツク・オブジエクトを
選択するのを容易にする技術に関する。本発明
は、２つ又はそれ以上の異なつたオブジエクト・
セツトを含むスーパーブロツク構造によつて特徴
付けらける多重データ・エデイタに適用すると特
に有効であるが、特殊なグラフイツク・エデイタ
にも有効に適用でき、多重データ・エデータに限
定されるわけではない。 〔従来技術〕 グラフイツク・エデイタは、例えば単純なグラ
フやチヤートのような単純なグラフイツク・デー
タ、又は複雑な電気、機械若しくは建築図面のよ
うな複雑なグラフイツク・データを編集するのに
使用される。複雑なグラフイツク・データは、コ
ンピユータ援助設計（CAD）装置によつて作り
出されることが多い。CAD装置は、ワード処理
装置と類似しているが、テキスト・データではな
くグラフイツク・データを取り扱う点において異
なる。グラフイツク・データを編集する過程にお
いて、ユーザが編集されるべき表示スクリーン上
のデータを選択する必要がある。これは、一般
に、例えばマウスのような指示（pointing）装置
によつてスクリーン上の指示カーソルを所要のグ
ラフイツク・オブジエクトへ向けて動かし、指示
カーソルを当該グラフイツク・オブジエクトに対
して所定距離内（以下では、引力領域とも言う）
に位置させ、次いで例えばマウスのボタンを押す
等の選択指定動作を行うことによつて行われる。 〔発明が解決しようとする問題点〕 この方法は非常に直接的方法であるが、ユーザ
にとつて困難な作業を強いることがある。所要の
グラフイツク・オブジエクトが他のグラフイツ
ク・オブジエクトに近接している場合には、誤つ
て他のグラフイツク・オブジエクトを選択してし
まうことがある。すなわち、ユーザは、グラフイ
ツク・オブジエクトＡを指示したつもりでマウス
の選択ボタンを押したところ、オブジエクトＢが
選択されてしまうことがある。複雑なグラフイツ
ク表示の場合、ユーザは正しい選択を行うために
選択指定動作及び選択解除動作を試行錯誤的にを
数回繰返さなければならないことがある。 例えば特願昭60−156205号に開示されているよ
うな多重データ・エデイタの場合、２つ又はそれ
以上の異なるオブジエクト・セツトが、互いに重
なり合うように、あるいは互いに接するように、
あるいは互いに上又は下に延長されるように配置
され得る。オブジエクト・セツトは、例えば、テ
キスト、図形又は表であり、単一頁に多数のオブ
ジエクト・セツトをコンパクトに表示する場合に
も、編集のためのグラフイツク・データ選択に同
様の問題が生じる。必要なのは、編集のためのグ
ラフイツク・データ選択を補助する有益な情報を
ユーザに提供することである。 従つて、本発明の目的は、グラフイツク・デー
タ・エデイタのユーザが編集のために表示グラフ
イツク・オブジエクトを選択するのを補助する有
益な情報を提供する方法を提供するにある。 本発明の別の目的は、編集のためにグラフイツ
ク・データを選択するのを補助する有益な情報を
ユーザに提供する手段をグラフイツク・データ・
エデイタに与えることにある。 本発明の別の目的は、グラフイツク・データ・
セツトを含む多くの異なつたデータ・セツトが、
他の異なるデータ・セツトとして同じスクリーン
に表示されるグラフイツク・データ・セツト中か
らグラフイツク・オブジエクトを選択するのを容
易にする方法を提供するにある。 〔問題点を解決するための手段〕 上記目的を達成するために、本発明は表示スク
リーン上において、指示カーソルがグラフイツ
ク・オブジエクトに対して所定距離内に位置され
た状態でユーザが選択指定動作を行うことにより
当該グラフイツク・オブジエクトを選択すること
にを容易にする方法であつて、 指示カーソルが前記表示スクリーンに表示され
たグラフイツク・オブジエクトに対して前記所定
距離内にありかつ当該グラフイツク・オブジエク
トに関して選択指定動作が行われていないことに
応答して、当該グラフイツク、オブジエクトの一
部のみを強調表示するものである。グラフイツ
ク・オブジエクト中の最も近い点の強調表示は、
例えば、最も近い点である小さいドツトの輝度を
高める該ドツトのカラーを変更するか、該ドツト
をブリンクさせるか、該ドツトの位置に小さな円
若しくは他の幾何学図形を表示するか、又はこれ
らの組合せによつて行われる。グラフイツク・オ
ブジエクト上において強調表示された点、ユーザ
が選択ボタンを押したとき当該グラフイツク・オ
ブジエクトが選択されることを明確に可視表示す
る。 〔実施例〕 ここで使用される指示カーソルは、表示スクリ
ーン上を自由に動き回ることのできる矢印又は他
の適当な形状のカーソルである。指示カーソルを
動かす手段は、特別にカーソル・キーが設けられ
たキーボードとすることもできるが、一般には、
マウス又はデイジタル化タブレツトのような指示
装置とすることが好ましい。これらの装置はとも
に相対位置装置として動作する。例えば、マウス
が平坦面上を動き回ると、表示されている指示カ
ーソルはマウスが動く方向に動く、典型例におい
ては、マウスは、平坦面から拾い上げられ、表示
指示カーソルが表示スクリーン上をより大きな距
離動くようにするために同じ通常位置中の平坦面
を数回前進させられる。表示された指示カーソル
が表示領域の外まで動いてしまうと、表示装置は
指示カーソルが常に可視表示領域内にとどまるよ
うにスクロールされる。同様の動作はデイジタル
化タブレツトによつても行うことができる。ただ
し、この場合には、ハンドヘルド・カーソル（表
示された指示カーソルではない）が、表示された
指示カーソルを動かすためにデイジタル化タブレ
ツドの表面上を動く点が異なる。マウス及びハン
ドヘルド・カーソルには、一般にマウス等の装置
を保持しているユーザの手の例えば人さし指によ
つて容易に押すことのできる２つ又はそれ以上の
ボタンが設けられている。典型例においては、こ
れらのボタンの１つは、選択ボタンである。選択
ボタンは、押されると、表示中の指示カーソルに
最も近い表示中のオブジエクトがある動作のため
に選択されるべきことを示す。指示カーソルは、
編集のためにグラフイツク・オブジエクトを選択
するためだけでなく、アプリケーシヨン・プログ
ラム中のコマンドを示すアイコンを選択するのに
も使用される。 本発明の場合には、ユーザが表示スクリーン上
のグラフイツク領域付近を表示中の指示カーソル
を動かすとき、選択ボタンが押されるとどのグラ
フイツクが選択されるかをユーザに示すために、
指示カーソルの所定距離内にあるグラフイツク・
オブジエクトの一部分のみが強調表示される。こ
のことは、いくつかのグラフイツク・オブジエク
トが表示される全点アドレス可能表示スクリーン
を示す第２図に示されている。第２図に示された
スクリーンの表示には、円１１、矩形１２、三角
形１３及び多角線（polyline）１４が含まれる。
三角形１３の点１５は、指示カーソル１６が三角
形１３を指示している（所定距離内にある）こと
を示すために強調表示される。ユーザが選択ボタ
ンを押すと、グラフイツク・オブジエクトすなわ
ちこの例では三角形１３全体が選択を指示するた
めに強調表示される。選択されているグラフイツ
ク・オブジエクトの選択を解除することもでき
る。これは、表示中の指示カーソルをオブジエク
トから離すように動かし、選択ボタンを再び押す
ことにより行われる。これが行われると、グラフ
イツク・オブジエクトの選択が解除され、強調表
示されなくなる。この特徴は、グラフイツク・デ
ータ・エデイタのユーザに対する親切さを増大さ
せるものである。 第３図は、線ゼグメント２２の引力領域２１を
示す。指示カーソル２３が線セグメント２２の引
力領域２１の範囲内にあるときには、線セグメン
ト２２が指示されたものとみなされる。第４図
は、三角形の線セグメントの引力領域の結合であ
る三角形３２の引力領域３１を示す。この図に
は、引力領域拡張ボツクス３３もまた示されてい
る。指示カーソル３４が三角形３２の引力拡張ボ
ツクス３３内にあるので、システムは、指示カー
ソルが三角形３２を指示しているか否かを考え
る。指示カーソル３４は三角形３２の線セグメン
ト３５の引力領域内にあるので、カーソル３４は
線セグメント３５を指示していることになる。線
セグメント３５のうちカーソル３４に最も近い点
は、強調表示される点である。１本以上の線セグ
メントが指示カーソルによつて指示されると、指
示カーソル３４に最も近い点が強調表示すべき点
として選択され、対応するオブジエクトが選択さ
れる。 第１表及び第２表は本発明を具体的に実施する
場合に使用される擬似コードである。擬似コード
は、プログラミング技術分野の当業者によつてソ
ース・コード及びオブジエクト・コードが容易に
導出されるプログラム設計言語（PDL）によつ
て書かれる。この記述は、実施の論理を示す。こ
の擬似コードは試験され、うまく動作することが
わかつた。グラフイツク表示の各線セグメントの
スロープをオン・ザ・フライで計算するかわりに
該スロープをシステムに記憶させることにより性
能速度が改良される。しかし、これは大容量の記
憶装置を必要とする。本具体例は、記憶装置の必
要性と速度とを交換するものである。 次の説明するプロシージヤは次の定めに従つて
いる。まず、グラフイツク・オブジエクトの引力
領域拡張は、グラフイツク・オブジエクトが矩形
に適合できるように最小サイズの矩形と定められ
る。次に、グラフイツク・オブジエクトの引力領
域は距離が所定値（例えば、10個の画素）に等し
いようにグラフイツク拡張部を取り囲む領域と定
められる。第３に、グラフイツク・オブジエクト
内に１つの線セグメントが存在し、当該線と現在
の指示カーソル位置との間の距離が所定の引力距
離に等しいか又は小さければ、当該オブジエクト
が指示カーソルによつて指示される。 次に示す第１表は、“グラフイツク強調表示”
プロシージヤ用のPDLリストである。
【表】 第１Ａ図は、グラフイツク強調表示プロシージ
ヤを示す。このフローチヤートのスタート点にお
いて、オペレータは表示装置上で指示カーソルを
位置決めするためにマウスを使用してグラフイツ
ク・スペースを編集しているものとする。オペレ
ータがグラフイツク・スペースを離れるまでコン
トロールはこのフローチヤート中にとどまつてい
る。 ブロツク４１において、指示されたオブジエク
ト及び前の点がゼロに初期設定される。ブロツク
４２において、指示カーソルの現在位置が読取ら
れ、最近点プロシージヤを呼出すことにより最も
近い点が計算される。次に、判断ブロツク４３に
おいて、最近点プロシージヤによつて得られた結
果について、テストが行われる。現在の指示カー
ソルがグラフイツク・オブジエクトを指示してい
れば、つまり、指示カーソルが該グラフイツク・
オブジエクトの引力領域内にあれば、ブロツク４
４において最近点プロシージヤによつて得られた
最も近い点に等しい新たな点がセツトされる。そ
して、判断ブロツク４５において、前の点と新た
な点が同一か否かがテストされる。両者が等しく
なければ、判断ブロツク４６において、前の点が
決められているか否かがテストされる。前の点が
決められていれば、ブロツク４７において、前の
点の強調表示が解除される。どちらの場合でも、
判断ブロツク４６のIFステートメントは完了す
る。そして、ブロツク４８において、新たな点が
強調表示され、前の点が新たな点に等しくなるよ
うにセツトされる。これにより、判断ブロツク４
５のIFステートメントが完了する。判断ブロツ
ク４３において、指示カーソルがグラフイツク・
オブジエクトを指示していないと判断されると、
判断ブロツク４９において、前の点が決められて
いるかテストされる。前の点が決められており、
前の点が最後に強調表示された点であることが暗
示されると、ブロツク５０において、前の点の強
調表示が解除され、前の点が０にセツトされる。
これにより、判断ブロツク４９のIFステートメ
ントが完了し、続いて判断ブロツク４３のIFス
テートメントが完了する。そして、判断ブロツク
５１において、この時点で選択ボタンが押された
か否かを判断するためにテストが行われる。選択
ボタンが押されなければ、処理ループはブロツク
４２に戻る。反対に、選択ボタンが押されると、
判断ブロツク５２において、指示されたオブジエ
クトが発見されたかテストされる。発見されたな
らば、グラフイツク・オブジエクト全体が強調表
示される。いずれにしても、判断ブロツク５２の
テストのIFステートメントは完了し、このフロ
ーチヤートを出ることとなる。 第２表は、“最近点”プロシージヤのための
PDLリストである。当業者はこのリストからソ
ース及びオブジエクト・コードを導出することが
できる。

〔発明の効果〕
以上の説明から明らかなように、本発明は、表
示スクリーンにおいて、指示カーソルがグラフイ
ツク・オブジエクトに対して所定距離内に位置さ
れた状態でユーザが選択指定動作を行うことによ
り当該グラフイツク・オブジエクトを選択する方
法において、指示カーソルが前記表示スクリーン
に表示されたグラフイツク・オブジエクトに対し
て前記所定距離内にあれば、当該グラフイツク・
オブジエクトに関して選択指定動作が行われてい
なくても、当該グラフイツク・オブジエクトの一
部のみを強調表示するものであるから、ユーザは
その状態でボタンを押すなどの選択指定動作を行
えば当該グラフイツク・オブジエクトが選択指定
されことを予め知ることができるので、当該グラ
フイツク・オブジエクトが所望のものならばその
まま選択指定動作を行えばよいし、不所望のもの
であるなら、所望のグラフイツク・オブジエクト
の一部が強調表示されるような位置まで指示カー
ソルを移動させてから選択指定動作を行えばよ
く、したがつて、誤つた選択指定動作及び誤選択
解除動作を回避することができ、ユーザがグラフ
イツク・オブジエクトを選択するのが容易にな
る。

フイツク・オブジエクトが表示される全点アドレ
ス可能表示スクリーンを示す説明図、第３図は、
線セグメントの引力領域を示すとともに該線セグ
メントと指示カーソルとの関係を示す説明図、第
４図は、三角形の引力領域を示すとともに該三角
形と指示カーソルとの関係を示す説明図である。 １６，２３，３４……指示カーソル、２１，３

Claims (1)

  1. 【特許請求の範囲】 １ 表示スクリーン上において、指示カーソルが
    グラフイツク・オブジエクトに対して所定距離内
    に位置された状態でユーザが選択指定動作を行う
    ことにより当該グラフイツク・オブジエクトを選
    択することを容易にする方法であつて、 指示カーソルが前記表示スクリーンに表示され
    たグラフイツク・オブジエクトに対して前記所定
    距離内にありかつ当該グラフイツク・オブジエク
    トに関して選択指定動作が行われていないことに
    応答して、当該グラフイツク・オブジエクトの一
    部のみを強調表示する ことを特徴するグラフイツク・オブジエクト選択
    容易化方法。 ２ 前記グラフイツク・オブジエクトの一部のみ
    が強調表示されている状態で前記グラフイツク・
    オブジエクトに関して選択指定動作が行われたこ
    とに応答して、前記グラフイツク・オブジエクト
    の全体を強調表示する ことを特徴とする特許請求の範囲第１項記載のグ
    ラフイツク・オブジエクト選択容易化方法。
