Abstract
Description
本出願は、2018年2月1日付韓国特許出願第10−2018−0013114号に基づいた優先権の利益を主張し、当該韓国特許出願の文献に開示された全ての内容は本明細書の一部として含まれる。
本発明の二次電池用正極活物質は、第1正極活物質及び第2正極活物質を含み、前記第1正極活物質の平均粒径(D50)は、前記第2正極活物質の平均粒径(D50)の2倍以上であり、前記第2正極活物質の結晶子サイズ(Crystallite size)が200nm以上である。

次に、本発明の正極活物質の製造方法を説明する。
本発明のまた他の一実施形態によれば、前記正極活物質を含むリチウム二次電池用正極及びリチウム二次電池を提供する。
このとき、前記導電材は、電極に導電性を付与するために用いられるものであって、構成される電池において、化学変化を引き起こすことなく電気伝導性を有するものであれば、特別な制限なく使用可能である。具体的な例としては、天然黒鉛や人造黒鉛などの黒鉛;カーボンブラック、アセチレンブラック、ケッチェンブラック、チャンネルブラック、ファーネスブラック、ランプブラック、サーマルブラック、炭素繊維などの炭素系物質;銅、ニッケル、アルミニウム、銀などの金属粉末または金属繊維;酸化亜鉛、チタン酸カリウムなどの導電性ウィスカー;酸化チタンなどの導電性金属酸化物;またはポリフェニレン誘導体などの伝導性高分子などを挙げることができ、これらのうち1種単独または2種以上の混合物が使用されてよい。前記導電材は、通常、正極活物質層の総重量に対して1から30重量%で含まれてよい。
第1正極活物質としてLiNi0.88Co0.10Mn0.02O2の粒子(D50=14μm)、第2正極活物質としてLiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2の粒子(D50=5μm)を準備した。このとき、前記第1正極活物質は、過焼成されないものとして結晶子サイズ(Crystallite size)が145nmであり、前記第2正極活物質は、過焼成されて結晶子サイズ(Crystallite size)が230nm、一次粒子の平均粒径(D50)が2μmであるものを用いた。前記第1正極活物質と第2正極活物質を8:2の重量比で混合して正極活物質を製造した。
第1正極活物質としてLiNi0.87Co0.08Mn0.03Al0.02O2の粒子(D50=15μm)であり、第2正極活物質としてLiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2の粒子(D50=6μm)を準備した。このとき、前記第1正極活物質は、過焼成されないものとして結晶子サイズ(Crystallite size)が140nmであり、前記第2正極活物質は、過焼成されて結晶子サイズ(Crystallite size)が260nm、一次粒子の平均粒径(D50)が2μmであるものを用いた。前記第1正極活物質と第2正極活物質を7:3の重量比で混合して正極活物質を製造した。
第1正極活物質としてLiNi0.88Co0.10Mn0.02O2の粒子(D50=14μm)、第2正極活物質としてLiNi0.8Co0.1Mn0.1O2の粒子(D50=5μm)を準備した。このとき、前記第1正極活物質及び第2正極活物質は過焼成されないものとして、第1正極活物質の結晶子サイズ(Crystallite size)が145nmであり、前記第2正極活物質は、結晶子サイズ(Crystallite size)が130nm、一次粒子の平均粒径(D50)が0.5μmであるものを用いたことを除いては、実施例1と同一に実施して正極活物質を製造した。
正極活物質としてLiNi0.88Co0.10Mn0.02O2の粒子(D50=14μm)であるモノモーダル(monomodal)で用いて正極活物質を製造した。
実施例1から2及び比較例1から2で製造された正極活物質の圧延密度を評価し、その結果を表1に示した。
実施例1から2及び比較例1から2の正極活物質を実験例1の方法と同一に2,000kgfで圧延したときの粒子破損の程度を評価した。粒子破損の程度は、走査電子顕微鏡(SEM,Scanning Electron Microscope)を介して観察し、さらに詳細には、PSD(Particle Size Distribution,粒径分布)のD50の変化量を介して粒子破損の程度を計算し、その結果を表2に示した。
正極活物質として実施例1から2及び比較例1から2により製造されたそれぞれの正極活物質とカーボンブラック導電材とPVDFバインダをN‐メチルピロリドン溶媒中で重量比で96.5:1.5:2の比率で混合して正極合剤(粘度:5000mPa・s)を製造し、これをアルミニウム集電体の一面に塗布した後、130℃で乾燥後、圧延して正極を製造した。負極はリチウムメタルを用いた。
実施例1から2及び比較例1から2により製造されたそれぞれの正極活物質を用いて実験例3のように製造された各リチウム二次電池ハーフセル(half cell)に対して、SOC(充電状態)100%、60℃で2週貯蔵してガス発生量を測定し、その結果を表4に示した。

- 請求項1から請求項7のいずれか一項に記載の正極活物質を含む、二次電池用正極。
- 請求項14に記載の正極を含む、リチウム二次電池。
