Abstract

Claims (13)
- 電子装置における画面上のカーソルの位置を操作するためのユーザインタフェース装置であって、
前記画面上のカーソルの位置を追跡するように動作することの可能なトラッキング要素と、
前記トラッキング要素に接続された少なくとも一つのモータであって、該モータに接続され、該モータの位置を示すモータ位置情報を生成する位置エンコーダを有するモータと、
前記電子装置からカーソル位置情報を受け取ると共に、前記位置エンコーダから前記モータ位置情報を受け取るコントローラと、
前記コントローラがアクセス可能な力−位置情報を記憶する記憶装置と、
を備え、前記コントローラは、前記カーソル位置情報および前記モータ位置情報の少なくとも一方に応答して前記力−位置情報にアクセスし、前記少なくとも一つのモータを用いて、前記トラッキング要素内に、正または負の力を前記画面上のカーソルの位置の関数として生成する、ユーザインタフェース装置。 - 前記トラッキング要素は球体であり、該球体は、該球体に接触する複数の輪状部材からなる少なくとも二つの輪状部材セットによって前記少なくとも一つのモータに接続されており、前記少なくとも二つの輪状部材セットは、相互に直交する軸上に並べられている、請求項1記載のユーザインタフェース装置。
- 前記モータを複数備える請求項1に記載のユーザインタフェース装置であって、前記複数のモータの各々は、相互に直交する軸上に並べられた輪状部材セットの少なくとも一つによって前記トラッキング要素に接続され、前記相互に直交する軸のうち該少なくとも一つの輪状部材セットが配置された軸上のトラッキング要素の動きを検知または伝達するように構成されている、請求項1記載のユーザインタフェース装置。
- 前記相互に直交する軸上に並べられた輪状部材セットの少なくとも一つによって前記トラッキング要素に各々が接続された前記複数のモータは、相互に直交するように配置されたx軸およびy軸上のトラッキング要素の動きを検知または伝達するように構成されている、請求項3記載のユーザインタフェース装置。
- 電子装置の表示画面上の表示要素の位置を操作するトラッキング要素を有するユーザインタフェース装置内に触覚応答性を生成する方法であって、
複数の駆動装置を相互に直交する軸に沿って前記トラッキング要素に対して位置決めするステップであって、前記複数の駆動装置の各々は、前記トラッキング要素を駆動するモータおよび前記トラッキング要素の位置を検知するエンコーダを有しているステップと、
コントローラを介して前記ユーザインタフェース装置を前記表示画面にインタフェースするステップであって、前記コントローラは、前記複数の駆動装置の各々の前記エンコーダおよび前記電子装置から情報を受信して、前記トラッキング要素の移動および前記表示要素の前記表示画面上における位置を追跡するステップと、
前記コントローラがアクセス可能な力−位置情報を、前記表示要素の表示画面上における位置の関数として記憶するステップと、
前記コントローラを介して前記力−位置情報にアクセスし、前記複数の駆動装置の各々への信号を生成して、前記表示画面上における前記表示要素の位置に応じて正または負の力を生じさせるステップと、
を備える方法。 - 前記コントローラを介して前記ユーザインタフェース装置を前記表示画面にインタフェースするステップは、前記電子装置を前記コントローラに相互接続して、前記表示画面上における前記表示要素の位置に関する情報を前記電子装置と前記コントローラとの間で送受するステップと、前記複数の駆動装置を前記コントローラに相互接続して、前記信号を前記複数の駆動装置の各々に送り、前記表示画面上における前記表示要素の位置に応じて前記正または負の力を生じさせるステップと、を含んでいる請求項5記載の方法。
- 触覚フィードバック能力を有するユーザインタフェース装置であって、
前記ユーザインタフェース装置のユーザに触覚フィードバックを与える動作可能手段と、
前記動作可能手段に接続されたモータと、
前記モータに接続され、前記モータの位置情報を提供する位置エンコーダと、
少なくとも前記位置エンコーダから前記位置情報を受信するコントローラと、
前記コントローラがアクセス可能な力−位置関係情報を記憶する記憶装置であって、前記コントローラは、前記力−位置関係情報に従って前記位置情報に対応する力の値を少なくとも一つ出力する、記憶装置と、
前記少なくとも一つの力の値に従って前記モータへの駆動信号を生成する駆動信号源であって、前記駆動信号は、前記モータ内に力を生じさせて前記触覚フィードバックを前記動作可能手段に提供し、前記動作可能手段の動きを補助し、または前記動作可能手段の動きに抵抗する、駆動信号源と、
を備えるユーザインタフェース装置。 - 前記モータの位置情報を受信して、該位置情報を示すカウント数を前記コントローラに供給するカウンタを更に備え、前記コントローラは、前記力−位置関係情報に従って前記カウント数に対応する力の値を出力する、請求項7記載のユーザインタフェース装置。
- 前記力の値は、ディジタル値であり、このディジタル値を受け取って、このディジタル値をアナログ信号に変換するディジタル−アナログ変換器を更に備える請求項8記載のユーザインタフェース装置。
- 前記アナログ信号を受信し、このアナログ信号が示す前記少なくとも一つの力の値に従って前記モータへの前記駆動信号を生成するパワー増幅器を更に備え、前記駆動信号は、前記アナログ力信号に比例している、請求項9記載のユーザインタフェース装置。
- 前記コントローラは、マイクロプロセッサを含み、このマイクロプロセッサは、このマイクロプロセッサの少なくとも一つのポート上で前記位置情報を受け取る、請求項7記載のユーザインタフェース装置。
- 前記マイクロプロセッサは、前記記憶装置として使用される電気的消去可能なプログラマブル読出し専用記憶素子(EEPROM)を含んでいる、請求項11記載のユーザインタフェース装置。
- 前記駆動信号源は、前記駆動信号として電流を生成するパワー増幅器を含む電流源である、請求項7記載のユーザインタフェース装置。
