Abstract

Description

氧化物涂层切削刀具
本发明涉及切削成形加工的涂层切削刀具。
在工业生产实践中,在切削刀具上采用化学气相沉积(CVD)氧化铝的方法已有15年多的历史了。在文献中已广泛讨论了Al2O3以及其他难熔材料的磨损性质。
CVD一技术也已用于制备其他金属的氧化物、碳化物和氮化物的涂层,这些金属一般是从周期表的IVB,VB和VIB,族的过渡金属中选择的。这些化合物中有许多已经作为耐磨或保护涂层获得了实际应用,但是很少有象TiC,TiN和Al2O3这样获得如此多的注意。
涂敷各种形式的Al2O3涂层,例如纯的K-Al2O3,k-和α-Al2O3混合物以及晶粒很粗的α-Al2O3的硬质合金切削刀具工业上已经应用多年了。当用于加工球墨铸铁时,这些氧化物涂层产品没有一种具有理想的切削性能。球墨铸铁是一种难加工的工件材料,因为它粘附在刀具的切削刃上,使得切削刃上的涂层连续不断地和迅速地被去除,从而缩短了切削刀片的刀具寿命。
Al2O3结晶有几种不同的相:α,K,γ,β,θ等。在耐磨Al2O3涂层的化学气相沉积(CVD)中最常遇到的两个相是热动力学上稳定的六方晶系α-相和亚稳的K-相。一般,K-相是细晶粒的,其晶粒尺寸在0.5~2.0μm范围内的通常有柱状的涂层形状。此外,K-Al2O3涂层没有结晶缺陷,没有微孔或空洞。
α-Al2O3晶粒通常较粗,根据沉积条件的不同,其晶粒尺寸为1-6μm。在这种情况下,通常更易出现气孔和结晶缺陷。
沉积在切削刀具上的CVD氧化铝涂层中常是α-和K-两种相并存。在工业切削刀具中,Al2O3通常是加在TiC涂覆碳化物或陶瓷基片上的(例外,参见美国专利No.3,837,896,现再颁美国专利No.29,420),因此TiC表面与氧化铝涂层之间的界面化学反应就特别重要。在这个意义上,TiC层也理解为包括具有分子式TiCxNyOz的层,其中TiC中的碳是完全地或部分地被氧和/或氮取代。
利用氧化物涂覆硬质合金切削刀具,以进一步增加其耐磨性的工作也是众所周知的,如美国重颁专利No.29,420和美国专利No.4399168,4018631,4490191和4463033中所述。这些专利公开了氧化物涂层刀体和不同的预处理(如涂TiC的硬质合金)如何提高相继沉积的氧化物的粘附性的。虽然,所述方法结果使氧化铝层能紧密地与硬质合金刀体或难熔层(例如邻接硬质合金的TiC)结合,但它们不可能如本发明中所述那样,产生特殊的Al2O3α-多晶型物。
氧化铝涂层刀体在美国专利No.3736,107和欧洲专利No.0403461和0408535中也已公开,其中Al2O3层包含有α,K和α/K多种组合。然而,这些专利没有说明α-多晶型物的理想显微结构和结晶组织,这正是本发明的目的。
因此,本发明的目的是,采用适当的成核作用和生长条件,在硬基片或最好是上述的TiCxNyOz涂层上提供具有理想的显微结构和结晶组织的α-多晶型体的至少一个单一相的Al2O3层,从而使Al2O3层的上述性质能够稳定。
本发明的进一步目的是要提供一种氧化铝涂层切削刀具刀片,它在切削钢、不锈钢、铸铁、特别是球墨铸铁方面有改进的切削性能。
图1表示根据本发明的典型的Al2O3涂层的2000倍放大的扫描电子显微境(SEM)的显微照片的顶视图。
本发明提供了一种切削刀具,它包含一个硬合金刀体,其上镀上一层耐磨涂层。涂层包括一个或几个难熔层,其中至少有一层为密致的、细晶粒的和最好是α-多晶型物构造的Al2O3层。
本发明的涂层切削刀具,当用于加工钢或铸铁,特别是假如其表面进一步经过加工喷砂平整后,与先有技术的刀具相比,显示了改进的抗磨性和韧性。
更具体地说,涂层刀具包括一个烧结的硬质合金刀体或最好在金属粘接剂相中至少有一个金属碳化物的金属陶瓷或陶瓷刀体基片。涂层结构的各单独层可为TiC或有关金属的碳化物,氮化物,碳氮化物,氧化碳化物和氧化碳氮化物,该金属选自周期表的IVB、VB和VIB族金属、B、Al和Si及/或它们的混合物。至少所述各层中有一层与基片接触。然而,在涂层结构的各层中,至少有一层包含有细晶粒的,最好是单一相的α-Al2O3组织层,其厚度d=0.5~25μm,晶粒尺寸为:
0.5μm<S<1μm(对于0.5μm<d<2.5μm)和
0.5μm<3μm(对于2.5μm<d<25μm)。
细晶粒的显微结构晶粒尺寸分布狭窄。最常见的是,80%的Al2O3晶粒的晶粒尺寸为平均晶粒尺寸的±50%。
Al2O3涂层的晶粒尺寸是由5000倍放大下的SEM显微照片的顶视图决定的。在任意方向画三根直线,沿直线方向晶粒边界之间的平均距离取作晶粒尺寸的量度。
本发明的Al2O3层在(012)方向上具有优选的晶粒生长指向,这是由x-射线衍射(XRD)测量决定的。组织系数TC(Texture Coefficient)可如下定义: TC ( hkl ) = I ( hkl ) I o ( hkl ) { 1 n Σ I ( hkl ) I o ( hkl ) } - 1 式中    I(hkl)--(hkl)反射的测量强度;
    Io(hkl)--ASTM标准粉末晶格衍射数据的标准强度;
    n--计算中所用的反射数,所用的(hkl)反射为:(012)(104),(110),(113),(024),(116)。
根据本发明,对于(012)晶体平面组,TC大于1.3,最好是大干1.5。
根据本发明,涂层体的特征还可以进一步用在0.25mm测量长度上的小于0.3μm的难熔涂层的表面粗糙度(Ra)来表征。最好,Al2O3层为最外层。
本发明的组织Al2O3涂层是在Al2O3成核晶作用之前,仔细控制氢载体气体的氧化电位得到的,最好是低于20ppm的水,特别是低于5ppm。Al2O3的成核作用是按下列次序加入反应气体而开始的:CO2,CO和Al2O3。在成核作用过程中,温度最好在1000℃左右。但是,精确的条件在一定程度上取决于所用的设备的设计。决定是否获得了要求的组织和根据本发明说明书去改进沉积的条件,需要时,去达到组织的量,都是本领域技术熟练者的范围。
本发明的α-Al2O3涂层是密致的,没有微孔和结晶缺陷。这是与以前的有关α-Al2O3涂层的报告相反的。
实例1
A)组成为5.5%Co、8.5%立方体碳化物和其余部分为WC的硬质合金切削刀片用5μm厚的TiCN层涂敷,在相同的涂敷循环过程中,在依次的加工步骤内,沉积了细晶粒(1~2μm)的,7μm厚的α-Al2O3层。在Al2O3成核作用之前及其过程中,氢载体气体的氧化电位(即水蒸汽浓度)明显地设置在较低的水平10ppm,(见美国专利No.5071696)。
包括CO2,CO和Al2O3的反应气体按给定的次序依次加入氢载体气体中。
在Al2O3沉积步骤中,气体混合物和其他工艺条件包括:

XRD(X射线衍射)分析显示Al2O3涂层的单-α相中(012)平面的组织系数TC(012)为2.1。Al2O3涂层在0.25mm长度上的表面粗糙度为0.2μm。
B)A)中的硬质合金基片用TiCN(5μm)和Al2O3(7μm)涂敷,如A)中所作一样,只有一点例外,即Al2O3过程按照先有技术的方法进行,结果在涂层中形成粗的α-和细的K-Al2O3晶粒的混合物。
C)具有和A)相同的基片和涂层组成及涂层厚度的刀具刀片,只有一点例外,即根据先有技术的含单-的相K-多晶型物Al2O3涂层。
为了平整涂层表面,由A),B)和C)得到的涂层刀具刀片全部甲150目的Al2O2粉末进行湿沫喷砂处理
然后,切削刀片在球墨铸铁(AISI60-40-18,DIN GGG 40)的平面加工工序中,对刃边和前斜面的剥落进行试验。被加工工件的形状应使在每一转过程中切削刃断续二次。
切削数据:
速度=150m/min,
切削深度=2.0mm及
进给量=0.1mm/转
刀片在工件表面上切削一次。
结果用下表表示,表中表示已经剥落的切削刀刃边和剥落的前斜面面积对前斜面与工件切削之间的总接触面积之比的百分数。

具有和实例1中A)相同的碳化物组成并且进一步包含有2μmTiC和8μm Al2O3涂层的工业硬质合金切削刀具在切削试验中用作参考。根据先有技术的方法沉积Al2O3层,结果在涂层中形成粗α-和细K-Al2O3晶粒的混合物。
所述工业刀具刀片频繁用于加工球墨铸铁。
在上述加工差速轮毂的试验中所使用的所有刀片都用150目Al2D3粉末进行了湿法喷砂处理。
加工了20个工件后,具有α/K涂层的工业刀具刀片剥落严重,70%以上的切削刃边上的涂层有损失。本发明的实例1中A)的涂,层刀片,在加工了40个工件后,只有不到10%的切削刃边出现剥落。实例3

Claims (7)
