Abstract
"CONTROLE ELETRÈNICO DE ESPéCIES FLUìDICAS". Vários aspectos da presente invenção se referem ao controle e manipulação de espécies fluídicas, por exemplo, em sistemas microfluídicos. Em um aspecto, a invenção se refere a sistemas e processos para produção de gotículas de fluido envoltas por um líquido, usando, por exemplo, campos elétricos, alterações mecânicas, a adição de um fluido interveniente etc. Em alguns casos, as gotículas podem ter, cada qual, um número substancialmente uniforme de entidades nela contidas. Por exemplo, 95% ou mais das gotículas podem conter, cada qual, o mesmo número de entidades de uma espécie particular. Em outro aspecto, a invenção se refere a sistemas e processos para dividir uma gotícula fluídica em duas gotículas, por exemplo, através de interações de carga e/ou bipolares com um campo elétrico. A invenção ainda se refere a sistemas e processos para fundir goticulas, de acordo com outro aspecto da invenção, por exemplo, através de interações de carga e/ou bipolares. Em alguns casos, a fusão das gotículas pode iniciar ou determinar uma reação. Em um aspecto correlato da invenção, são também previstos sistemas e processos para permitir a ocorrência da misturação de fluido dentro das gotículas. Em outro aspecto ainda, a invenção se refere a sistemas e processos para fazer triagem de gotículas, por exemplo, fazendo com que as gotículas se movam para certas regiões dentro de um sistema fluídico. Exemplos incluem o uso de interações elétricas (por exemplo, cargas, bipolos etc.) ou sistemas mecânicos (por exemplo, deslocamento de fluido) para separar as gotículas. Em alguns casos, as gotículas fluìdicas podem ser triadas em taxas relativamente altas, por exemplo, a cerca de 10 gotículas por segundo ou mais. Um outro aspecto da invenção prevê a capacidade de determinar gotículas, ou um de seus componentes, por exemplo, usando fluorescência e/ou outras técnicas óticas (por exemplo, microscopia), ou técnicas detectoras elétricas, como detecção dielétrica.
