Abstract
본 발명은 알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물 및 이의 제조 방법에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 의한 알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물은 리튬티탄 복합 산화물 제조 후 재분쇄한 입자를 알루미늄 화합물과 혼합하고 다시 분무 건조하여 2차 입자를 제조함으로써 1차 입자가 알루미늄으로 코팅됨에 따라, 본 발명에 의한 알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물을 포함하는 전지는 종래 리튬티탄 복합산화물의 티탄 이온에 의한 전해액 분해, 잔류리튬으로 인해 발생하는 가스 발생을 억제하는 효과를 나타낸다.
Description
본 발명은 알루미늄으로 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물 및 이의 제조 방법에 관한 것이다.
전지의 용도에 따라 비수성 전해질 전지에 다양한 성질들이 요구된다. 예를 들어, 비수성 전해질 전지가 디지털 카메라에 사용될 때 약 3C의 전류 하에서 방전이 예상되고, 하이브리드 전기 자동차와 같은 차량에 사용될 때 적어도 약 10C의 전류 하에서의 방전이 예상된다. 이러한 상황을 감안하면, 상기 예시한 기술 분야에서 사용되는 비수성 전해질 전지에 고전류 성질이 특히 요구된다.
현재 상용화된 리튬 이차전지의 대부분은 음극물질로 탄소 재료를 사용하고 있는데 탄소는 전자전도도가 우수하고, 용량이 높은 장점이 있지만, 열에 불안정하고, 전해질과 호환성이 낮으며, 전극표면에 수지상을 쉽게 형성하는 등 안전을 최우선으로 고려해야 하는 자동차에 사용하기에는 어려운 문제점을 가지고 있다. 이로 인해 리튬티탄산화물(LTO)이 탄소를 대체할 음극 물질로 많이 연구되고 있는데, 리튬티탄산화물는 충방전시에 체적변화가 거의 없어 구조적 안정성이 우수하고, 1.5 V (vs Li+/Li)의 비교적 높은 전위로 인해 과충전시에도 수지상을 형성하지 않고, 전해질을 분해시키는 등의 안전문제가 없어, 고속 저온작동조건에 유리한 성질을 가지고 있다.

12, LTO) 물질은 작동 전압이 1.3 ~ 1.6 V로 기존의 탄소계 음극재에 비해 높고 가역 용량은 170 mAh/g정도로 작다는 단점이 있으나, 고속 충방전이 가능하고 비가역 반응이 거의 존재하지 않으며 (초기 효율 95%이상), 반응열이 매우 낮아 안전성이 우수하다는 장점이 있다. 또한 탄소 재료의 경우 이론 밀도가 약 2 g/cm
3
정도로 낮으나 Li
4Ti
5O
12는 이론 밀도가 3.5 g/cm
3 정도로 높아 부피당 용량은 탄소 물질과 유사한 수준이다.
이러한 LTO의 제조방법으로는, 예를 들어, 고상법, 준고상법 및 졸겔법이 있으며, 이중 준고상법은 고상의 반응 원료들을 혼합한 후 슬러리화하여 LTO를 제조하는 방법으로서, 건조, 제1 분쇄, 열처리 및 제2 분쇄 등의 많은 공정을 포함하여 제조공정이 복잡하고 각 공정 단계를 적절하게 제어하지 못할 경우에는 원하는 물성을 갖는 LTO를 제조하기가 어려우며 LTO로부터 불순물을 제거하기가 쉽지 않은 단점이 있다.
이때 상기 리튬 화합물로는 LiOH 및/또는 Li
2CO
3가 사용되나, 이와 같은 리튬 화합물을 사용할 경우 양극활물질 표면에 LiOH, Li
2CO
3 형태로 존재하는 잔류 리튬량이 높다는 문제점이 있다.
이러한 잔류 리튬 즉, 미반응 LiOH 및 Li
2CO
3는 전지 내에서 전해액 등과 반응하여 가스 발생 및 스웰링(swelling) 현상을 유발함으로써, 고온 안전성이 심각하게 저하되는 문제를 야기시킨다.
또한, LTO 내의 Ti 가 전해액과 반응하여 아래 경로를 통해 가스를 발생시킨다는 점이 최근 문제가 되고 있다.
본 발명은 상기와 같은 종래 기술의 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 리튬티탄복합산화물의 1차 입자를 이종 금속으로 코팅함으로써 가스 발생을 효과적으로 조절할 수 있는 새로운 구조의 알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물을 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
본 발명은 또한, 본 발명에 의한 알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물의 제조 방법을 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다.
본 발명은 상기와 같은 과제를 해결하기 위하여 알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물을 제공한다.
본 발명에 의한 리튬 티탄 복합산화물은 복수개의 1차 입자가 응집되어 형성되는 2차 입자이고, 상기 2차 입자의 크기는 7 내지 20 um 인 것을 특징으로 한다.
본 발명에 의한 리튬 티탄 복합산화물은 잔류 리튬이 2,000 ppm 이하인 것을 특징으로 한다.
전지 내에서 잔류 리튬 즉, 미반응 LiOH 및 Li
2CO
3와 전해액 등과의 반응에 따른 가스 발생 및 스웰링(swelling) 현상 유발은 전지의 고온 안전성을 심각하게 저하시키는 문제를 야기시킨다. 그러나, 본원 발명에 따른 알루미늄으로 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물은 전지 내의 잔류 리튬을 감소시킴으로써 전지 내의 가스 발생양을 감소시키기 때문에 전지의 고온 안정성 또한 향상시킬 수 있다(본원 표 11 참조).
본 발명에 의한 리튬 티탄 복합산화물은 LTO 주피크 대비 루타일형 이산화티탄 피크의 강도가 3% 이내이며, LTO 주피크 대비 아나타제형 이산화티탄 피크의 강도가 1% 이내인 것을 특징으로 한다.
본 발명에 의한 리튬 티탄 복합산화물은 초음파 인가에 따라 입도 분포가 변하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
본 발명에 의한 리튬 티탄 복합산화물 2차 입자는 전극 제조 시 1차 입자로 변하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
본 발명의 일 실험예에 따르면, 본 발명에 따른 알루미늄으로 코팅된 리튬 티탄 복합 산화물의 입도를 분석하기 위해 초음파를 인가하여 초음파 인가 유무에 따른 입도 변화를 확인한 결과, 초음파 전의 입도보다 초음파 후의 입도가 작아지는 변화를 확인할 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는, 본 발명에 따른 리튬 티탄 복합 산화물을 이용하여 전극 제조시, 리튬 티탄 복합 산화물이 2차 입자 형태가 아닌 1차 입자 형태로 변화하여 전지의 전기화학적 특성을 향상시킬 수 있음을 시사한다(본원 도 7 참조).
본 발명은 또한, 본 발명에 의한 리튬티탄 복합산화물을 포함하는 리튬이차전지용 전극을 제공한다.
본 발명에 의한 리튬티탄 복합산화물을 포함하는 리튬이차전지용 전극은 상기 리튬티탄 복합 산화물의 2차 입자로부터 분쇄된 D50 이 1.0 내지 4.0 um 인 1차 입자를 포함하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
본 발명은 또한,
i) 리튬 함유 화합물, 티탄 산화물, 이종금속 화합물을 양론비로 고상 혼합하는 단계;
ii) 상기 i)의 고상 혼합물을 용매에 분산시키고 0.1 ㎛ 내지 0.2 ㎛ 의 평균입자 직경을 갖는 입자를 함유할 때까지 습식 분쇄하여 슬러리를 제조하는 단계;
iii) 상기 슬러리를 분무건조하여 입자를 형성하는 단계;
iv) 상기 분무건조된 입자를 소성하는 단계;
v) 상기 소성된 입자를 분쇄하는 단계;
vi) 상기 분쇄된 입자와 알루미늄 화합물의 혼합물을 용매에 분산시키고 교반하여 슬러리를 제조하는 단계;
vii)분무 건조하는 단계: 및
viii)열처리하는 단계; 를 포함하는 본 발명에 의한 알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물의 제조 방법을 제공한다.
본 발명에 의한 알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물의 제조 방법에 있어서, 상기 이종금속 화합물은 지르코늄 화합물인 것을 특징으로 한다.
본 발명에 의한 알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물의 제조 방법에 있어서, 상기 알루미늄 화합물은 황산알루미늄인 것을 특징으로 한다.
본 발명에 의한 알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물의 제조 방법에 있어서, 상기 소성 단계에서는 700 내지 800 ℃ 에서 10 내지 20 시간 동안 열처리하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
본 발명에 의한 알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물의 제조 방법에 있어서, 상기 열처리하는 단계에서는 400 내지 500 ℃ 에서 10 내지 20 시간 동안 열처리하는 것을 특징으로 한다.
본 발명에 의한 알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물은 리튬티탄 복합 산화물 제조 후 재분쇄하고, 분쇄된 입자를 알루미늄 화합물과 혼합하여 다시 분무 건조함으로써 1차 입자가 알루미늄으로 코팅됨에 따라, 본 발명에 의한 알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물을 포함하는 전지는 종래 리튬티탄 복합산화물의 티탄 이온에 의한 전해액 분해, 잔류리튬으로 인해 발생하는 가스 발생을 억제하는 효과를 나타낸다.
도 1은 습식 분쇄시간에 따른 입도 변화를 측정한 결과를 나타낸다.

이하에서는 본 발명을 실시예에 의하여 더욱 상세히 설명한다. 그러나, 본 발명이 이하의 실시예에 의하여 한정되는 것은 아니다.

실시예
1> 리튬 티탄 복합 산화물의 제조
출발물질로서
탄산리튬 1 몰과 아나타제형 산화티탄 1몰 및 수산화지르코늄 1 몰을 고상 혼합하고, 물에 교반하며 용해하였다. 이어서 지르코니아 비드를 사용하여 3000 rpm 으로 습식 분쇄한 후, 열풍 온도를 250℃, 배기 열풍 온도를 110 ℃로 분무건조하고, 700~800℃ 공기 분위기하에서 10~20시간 동안 열처리함으로써 이종 금속으로서 Zr 이 도핑된 리튬 티탄 복합 산화물을 제조하였다.

실험예
> 습식 분쇄 시간에 따른 입도 측정
상기 실시예 1에서 습식 분쇄시 사용된 지르코니아 bead 입자 및 습식 분쇄 시간에 따른 슬러리 입자 크기를 측정하고 도 1 에 나타내었다.
지르코늄과 습식 분쇄 시간을 조절하여 입도를 다르게 하여 슬러리를 제조하고, 제조된 슬러리의 입도 및 이와 같은 슬러리를 이용하여 제조된 2차 입자의 입도 분포를 측정하여 아래 표 1에 나타내었다.
상기 실시예 1에서 소성전 리튬 티탄 산화물 및 소성후 리튬 티탄 산화물의 SEM 사진을 측정하고 그 결과를 도 2 및 도 3에 나타내었다.
상기 실시예 1에서 제조된 슬러리의 입도 및 이로부터 제조된 활물질의 1차 입자 크기와의 관계를 측정하고 아래 표 2 및 도 4에 나타내었다.
도 2 내지 도 4 및 상기 표 2 에서 슬러리 입도에 따라 소성 전 2차 입자에서 1차 입자 및 소성 후 2차 입자에서의 1차 입자의 형상 및 크기에 영향을 주는 것을 확인할 수 있다.

측정
상기 실시예 1에서 제조된 소성된 리튬 티탄 산화물 단면의 SEM 사진을 측정하고 그 결과를 도 4에 나타내었다.
도 5에서 슬러리 입도가 0.54 인 SPL-1 보다 슬러리 입도가 0.1 인 SPL-1 의 경우 1차 입자 크기가 최소화 되면서 균일하게 혼합되고, 이에 따라 열처리시 이산화탄소가 빠져나가면서 만들어지는 pore 가 매유 균일하게 형성되는 것을 알 수 있다.

실시예
2> 1차 입자로 분쇄
상기 실시예 1에서 제조된 SP-1 내지 SP-5의 리튬 티탄 복합 산화물을 분쇄하였다.
SP-1 내지 SP-5 각각의 입자에 대한 분쇄후 입도 분포를 측정하고 아래 표 3에 나타내었다.
분쇄된 입자의 SEM 사진을 측정하고 그 결과를 도 6에 나타내었다.

실시예
3> 1차 입자가 알루미늄으로 코팅된 리튬 티탄 복합 산화물의 제조
상기 실시예 2에서 분쇄된 슬러리에 알루미늄 화합물로서 황산알루미늄을 혼합하고 용매로서 물에 혼합하고 교반하며 1차 입자를 알루미늄으로 코팅하였다.
열풍 온도를 250℃, 배기 열풍 온도를 110 ℃로 분무건조하여 다시 2차 입자로 재응집시키고, 450 ℃ 공기분위기하에서 10시간 동안 열처리함으로써 1차 입자가 알루미늄으로 표면 처리된 리튬 티탄 복합 산화물을 제조하였다.

> 알루미늄 코팅 함량에 따른 물리적 특성 확인
상기 실시예 3에서 첨가되는 황산알루미늄의 코팅 함량에 따른 물리적특성을 측정하고 아래 표 4에 나타내었다

열처리 온도를 450 ℃ 로 조절한 것을 제외하고는 상기 실시예 3과 동일하게 하여 입자를 제조하고 물성을 측정한 결과를 아래 표 5에 나타내었다.

열처리 온도를 475 ℃ 로 조절한 것을 제외하고는 상기 실시예 3과 동일하게 하여 입자를 제조하고 물성을 측정한 결과를 아래 표 6에 나타내었다.

> 기체 발생량 측정
상기 실시예에서 알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄복합산화을 전해액(PC/EMC/DMC=2/2/6, LiPF6=1.0M) 4ml에 함침 후 80℃ 에서 2주간 보관한후 가스 발생양을 분석하고 아래 표 10에 나타내었다.

제조예
> 전극 제조
상기 실시예에서 제조된, 리튬 티탄 복합 산화물을 양극활물질로 하고, 리튬 호일을 상대 전극으로 하며, 다공성 폴리에틸렌막(셀가르드 엘엘씨 제, Celgard 2300, 두께: 25㎛)을 세퍼레이터로 하고, 에틸렌 카보네이트와 디메틸 카보네이트가 부피비로 1:2로 혼합된 용매에 LiPF6 1몰 농도로 녹아 있는 액체 전해액을 사용하여 통상적으로 알려져 있는 제조공정에 따라 전극 및 코인 전지를 제조하였다.

Claims (14)
- 알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 리튬 티탄 복합산화물은 복수개의 1차 입자가 응집되어 형성되는 2차 입자이고, 상기 2차 입자의 크기는 7 내지 20 um 인 것인리튬티탄 복합산화물.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 리튬 티탄 복합산화물은 잔류 리튬이 2,000 ppm 이하인 것인리튬티탄 복합산화물.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 리튬 티탄 복합산화물은 LTO 주피크 대비 루타일형 이산화티탄 피크의 강도가 3% 이내인 것인리튬티탄 복합산화물.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 리튬 티탄 복합산화물은 LTO 주피크 대비 아나타제형 이산화티탄 피크의 강도가 1% 이내인 것인리튬티탄 복합산화물.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 리튬 티탄 복합산화물은 초음파 인가에 따라 입도 분포가 변하는 것인리튬티탄 복합산화물.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 리튬 티탄 복합산화물 2차 입자는 전극 제조 시 1차 입자로 변하는 것인리튬티탄 복합산화물.
- 제 1 항 내지 제 7 항 중 어느 한 항에 의한 리튬티탄 복합산화물을 포함하는 리튬이차전지용 전극.
- 제 8 항에 있어서,상기 전극은 상기 리튬티탄 복합 산화물의 2차 입자로부터 분쇄된 D50 이 1.0 내지 4.0 um 인 1차 입자를 포함하는 것인 전극.
- i) 리튬 함유 화합물, 티탄 산화물, 이종금속 화합물을 양론비로 고상 혼합하는 단계;ii) 상기 i)의 고상 혼합물을 용매에 분산시키고 0.1 ㎛ 내지 0.2 ㎛ 의 평균입자 직경을 갖는 입자를 함유할 때까지 습식 분쇄하여 슬러리를 제조하는 단계;iii) 상기 슬러리를 분무건조하여 입자를 형성하는 단계;iv) 상기 분무건조된 입자를 소성하는 단계;v) 상기 소성된 입자를 분쇄하는 단계;vi) 상기 분쇄된 입자와 알루미늄 화합물의 혼합물을 용매에 분산시키고 분쇄하여 슬러리를 제조하는 단계;vii)분무 건조하는 단계: 및viii)열처리하는 단계:를 포함하는알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물의 제조 방법.
- 제 10 항에 있어서,상기 이종금속 화합물은 지르코늄 화합물인 것인알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물의 제조 방법.
- 제 10 항에 있어서,상기 알루미늄 화합물은 황산알루미늄인 것인알루미늄 코팅된 1차 입자를 포함하는 리튬티탄 복합산화물의 제조 방법.
