Description

G. HIGGINS. HEATING STOVE.
No. 19,219. Patented July 23, 1889.
UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NERTER (3. lllGGlhiS, OF NORWICH, CONNECTICUT.
DESIGN FOR A HEATING-STOVE.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Design No. 19,219, dated July 23, 1889.
Application filed June 26, 1889. Serial 1T0. 315,643. Term of patent '1 years.
To alt whom it may concern;
Be it known thatl, WERTER (3. Income, a citizen of the United States, residing at Norwich, in the county of New London and State of Connecticut, have invented and produced a new and original Design for Stoves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had to the accompanyingdrawing, forming part thereof and showing a perspective view of a stove of my new design.
The principal features of my said invention reside in the ornamentation of so-called cylinder-stoves.
Referring to the drawing, A indicates the base-plate of the stove, said plate being of general rectangular shape in plan, with rounded corners and molded edge, each corner being supported by a leg B, whose upper portion conforms in shape with the rounded corner of the base-plate. Said legs are substantially of an ogee pattern when viewed in side elevation and are ornamented by a se ries of horizontal ribs 1) near the top and a raised figure or rosette c of diamond shape at or near said top. Said diamonds are formed preferably of a small circular center and a series of bars projecting radially therefrom, as shown.
The outer molded edge of the base-plate A is ornamented by a series of alternating figures consisting of a multiple of vertical bars (1 and a foliated figure d.
Supported on the base-plate A is a square ash-pit section 0, having hinged to its front side a door e, whose exposed face is ornamented by a square corner figure e and a border of parallel ribs or lines 2 extending from corner-piece to corner-piece. The other sides of said ash-pit section are similarly 0rnamented, the field of the panel thus formed being relieved by two centrally-located semicircular figures f, whbse'arcs confront each oiiher. The ground of said panels is also pebb ed.
The top of ash-pit G is formed as an overhanging plate D, whose outer edge is rounded and ornamented to correspond in d sign with the base-plate A, first above des'crilged. This plate D supports the cylindricaibody-section E of the stove, which section is formed with a series of annular ribs it. That portion of plate D which surrounds the body-section E is formed with a serpentine rib v1, following a course substantially concentric with said body-section, the spaces within the inverted curves of said serpentine rib being relieved by raised figures k. In addition to the ser pentine rib i the plate D has at each cornera raised figure k of circular outline, consisting of a series of bars radiating from a common center.
Projecting from each side of the ash-pit C, at front and rear, are brackets m, formed as ornamental scrolls, supporting at their upper ends fender-bars n, that are covered by or formed with a spirally-ribbed jacket 0. At the ends of bars n are balls n, whose outer portions are ornamented by radial depressions n Projecting upward from the rear extension of plate D is a flue-pipe G, that is curved to enter the body-section E about midway of its length, and is formed with longitudinal and annular borders p and square corner-pieces 19'.
To the frontof the body-section E is secured a frame or plate H, to which are hinged two doors K and L. The exposed faces of said doors are provided with rectangular cornor-pieces 1', that are connected by a bead s,
formed by transverse diagonal lines.
The extreme top of the frame H is formed witha semicircular extension I, that terminates in a scroll at each side. Concentric with said semicircular extension is a rosette resurrounded by a pebbled field. At each corner of frame H are square ornaments 1:, formed of raised bars radiating from a common center, and intermediate between these corner-pieces are similar ornamental figures t, the space between said figures on each side being filled by a multiple of longitudinal ribs t Between thedoors K and L is secured a suitable name-plate that may be varied to indicate the size, style, and name of the stove. A semicircular rosette o is preferably added below the upper and above the lower door, and the field or ground of plate H is pebbled in all parts not otherwise described. The capsection N is circular in plan and overhangs the body-section E, its outer edge being rounded and ornamented to correspond with the edges of plates D and A. Said top or cap in elevation is formed as three principal steps of decreasing diameter, the lower and upper ones being, crowning or formed as an outward curve, whilethe intermediate step is inwardly curved, forming substantially a double-ogce outline in cross-section. Each step of cap N is formed as open fretwork we, said openings being approximately semicircular.
The described stove is surmounted by an urn P or other ornamental finial.
What I claim is 1. The design for the ornamentation of stoves herein shown and described, the same comprising a border of alternating vertical bars and foliated figures, as set forth, for the edges of the several plates intermediate with the superimposed stove-sections; ornamentation for the main door-frame, consisting of a semicircular top extension terminating in a scroll at each side and having within said top extension a rosette on a pebbled field, said door-framc being bordered by square corner-pieces connected by a multiple of Iongitudinal ribs; ornamentation of the designs set forth for the doors of said stove, and ornamentation for the upper face of the plate 1) between the body and ash-pit sections, consisting of a serpentine rib following a course substantially concentric with said body-section, all substantially as herein set forth.
2. In the design for the ornamentation of stoves herein shown. and described, a border of alternating vertical bars and foliated figures, as set forth, on the rounded edges of the base-plate and top plate of the ash pitsection, brackets (projecting from opposite sides of said ash-pit) formed asornamental. scrolls, as set forth, and fender-bars supported by said brackets, having spirally-ribbed jackets, and end balls ornamented by radial depressions, substantially as set forth.
VVERTER C. HIGGINS.
