UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
NICHOLAS S. VEDDER AND FRANCIS RITGHIE, OF TROY, NEW YORK, Aid SIGNORS TO SWETT, QUIMBY, &'PERRY, OF SAME PLACE.
DESIGN FOR BASE-BURNING STOVES.
Specification forming part of Design No. 7,775, dated September 22, 1874; applicat on filed August 22, 18%. [Term of Patent 7 years.]
To all whom it may concern Be it known that we, NICHOLAS S. VEDDER and Framers RI'roHIE, each of the city of Troy, in the county of Rensselaer and State of New York, have jointly invented and produced a new and original ornamental Design for Base-Burning Stoves of which the following is a specification, ret erence being had to the accom panyin g photograph of a stove, which embodies our said new design.
One part of our invention consists of the designlor the urn A, composed of the foot and stem 2, shaped as shown, the handles 11 y, of the form represented, and the cylindrical body :0, having the band of quadrangular ornaments 10, arranged point to point about its middle, and the ornamental moldings o at around its top and bottom, and all shaped and disposed together so as to appear substantially as represented in the accompanying photograph.
Another part of our invention consists of the design for the circular removable cover B, composed of the uppermost ornamented con cave section or molding t, the next adjacent ornamented concave molding or section 3, the ornamented convex section r, and the lowermost smooth convex section q, all of the sec tions being annular, with ledges between them, and all shaped and disposed so as to appear as represented in the aforesaid photograph.
' Another part of our invention is the design for the annular top-supporting plate D, as distinguished by its upwardly-flaring form, and having around its upper part the row of downwardly- .jnted ornaments m, and around its lower herow of downwardly-pointed ornaments I, having their broad upper ortions connected together by short bars with beads, and each partly covered by a disk round on the lower edges, and having a little central knob, all as seen, by sharp inspection, int-he aforesaid photograph.
Another part of our invention consists of the design for the ornamental panel-borders F, composed of the two pairs of opposite arches k and j, each formed of the middle, flat, plain, part, the outer raised odge-molding and the inner edgemolding having a row 0% semicircular ornaments along its outer edge, and scroll-like inner ends united by an interveningornament, all shaped and disposed as shown in the aforesaid photograph.
Another part of our invention consists of the design for panel-ornaments, composed of the ornamental inner surface E and ornamental border F, each composed and all shaped and disposed together, as shown in the accompanying representation.
Another part of our invention is the design for the rectangular panels G, composed of the middle ornamented surface E, compound ornamental border F, horizontally-grooved corner surfaces i, and outer moldings h, with or without the rosettes 9, all shaped and arranged together so as to appear substantially as represented in the aforesaid photograph.
Another part of our invention is the design for the upper cylindrical section H, consisting of three or more of the panels G, composed as above specified, and arranged together with interviewing rows of diamond-shaped ornaments f, all so as to appear as represented in the photograph aforesaid.
Another part of our invention is the design for the upper mica lightdoors I, each consist ing of three micaspaces having the bottom bar 6, side bars a, and Gothic arched top a", ornamented as shown, and the cap-piece d, composed of straightand curved moldings and scroll-like ornamentations, all as shown in the photograph. l
Another part of our invention is the design for the upper mica light-section J, consistin g of segments curved as shown, with divisionstrips 0, of diamond-shaped projections, and raised ornamentations c on the upper parts, all shaped and disposed as shown in the aforesaid representation.
Another part of our invention is the design for the fire-pot section K, consisting of segments divided by the diamond-shaped ornamentations b, and having the row of ornamentations 1: along the upper art, and the series of compound ornaments along the lower part, all shaped and disposed as represented in the aforesaid photograph. Another part of this invention is the design for the lower mica light-doors L, each consisting of the two mica-spaces a, the middle bar a, the botto'm'a'nd side pieces a", and the cappiece c, all shaped and arranged together as shown in the photograph aforesaid.
7 Another part of our invention is the design for the lower mica ligh t'section M, consisting of inclined segments f, with division-strips d, of diamond-shaped ornaments, and the ornamented border-moldings is, all shaped and disposed as shown in the aforesaid photograph.
Another part of this invention is the design for the ash-pit draft-door N, consisting of the ornamental surface E in a rectangular panel, having the border-molding g and the projecting oblong rectangular dampencase h, having oblong upright apertures with arched tops and intervening rows of ornamentations within a border-molding, the whole being shaped and arranged together as shown in the accompanying representation.
Another-part of our invention is the design for the sides 0 of the ash-pit section,
consisting of the ornamental sub-panel E F, the grooved surfaces 0', the moldings h, and the horizontally grooved upright projecting portions i, all shaped and arranged together as represented in the photograph.
Another part of our invention is the design for the base-plate P,as' distinguished by the particular form, in plan and in profile combined, of the outer border-molding Q and the inner border-molding R, in connection with the ornamentations thereon, as shown in the aforesaid photograph.
Another part of our invention is the design for the leg S, as distinguished by the shell-like center or knee-piece t, the horizontally-grooved surfaces 10, the ornamental scroll sides 1), and the foot w, all shaped and disposed as shown in the photograph aforesaid.
What we claim as new, and of our invention, is-
1. The design for the urn A, composed of the foot and stem z, handles 3 y, and body or, having the row of ornaments w and ornamental moldings o u, all shaped and disposed together as herein specified, and rep resented in the accompanying photograph.
2. The design for the circular cover B, composed of theornamental annularconcave moldings t and s, the ornamented convex molding r and theplain convex molding q, all shape and arranged together as shown and described. Y I
3. The design for the annular plate I), as distinguished by the rows of ornaments m and l, shaped and arranged together as herein specified, and shown in the aforesaid photograph.
4. The'design for the ornamental panelborder F, composed of the two pairsof opposite arcs, k and j, formed of the particular parts, moldings, and ornaments herein specilied, and shown in the photographic representation.
5. The design for the compound panel ornament, consisting of the ornamental surface E and ornamental moldings or border F formed and combined as shown and describe 6. The design for the rectangnlar'panels G composed of the surface E, border F, groove surfaces t, and moldings h, all shaped and arranged together asshown and specified.
7. The design for the upper cylindrical section ll, consisting of the panels Gr, formed as specified, and the intervening rows of ornaments f, as shown and described.
8. The design for the upper mica lightdoors I, composed of three apertures, with the bottom bars 6, side bars 6, Gothic archtop a, and cappiece d, all shaped, ornament ed, and arranged together as described and shown.
9. The design for the upper illuminatingsection J, composed of sections divided by the rows of diamond-shaped ornamentations c, with the ornamentations c on the upper parts, all shaped as shown and specified.
10. The design for the firepot section K.
as divided into segments-by the ornamental strips 1), with the ornamentation b along the upper part, and the series of compound ornaments b upon the lower part, all shaped and arranged as specified and shown.
11. The design for the lower mica lightdoors L, as distinguished by the two apertures a a in each door, middle bar a, bottom and sidepieces a, and cap-piece a', all shaped, ornamented, and arranged as shown.
12. The design for the lower illuminatingsection M, consisting of the segments f,connected by the ornamental strips 01, and havin g the ornamented bordermoldings It, all as shown and described.
13. The design for the ash-pit door N, as distinguished by the ornamental surface E,
in a rectangular panel having the bordermolding g, and the projecting oblong damper-case h having oblong upright draft-apertures, with round arched tops and intervening rows of ornamentations within an outside border-molding, all shaped and arranged together, as shown.
14. The design for the sides 0 of the ash pit section, consisting of the ornamental subpanel E F, grooved surfaces 0', moldings h, and the horizontally-grooved projections i, all as shown and described.
'15. The design for the base-plate P, as dis tingnished by the particular forms, in plan and profile, of the outer border-molding Q and in ner border-molding R, and the ornamentations thereon, all as shown in the accompanying photographic representation. i
16. The design for the leg S, as distinguished by the sheILIike'knee-piece t,h0rizontally-grooved surfaces u, ornamental side scrolls 'v, and foot 10', all shaped and arranged together, as represented in the accompanying photograph.
