DESIGN FOR- A BASE-BURNING STOVE.

Be it known that we, NICHOLAS S. VEDDER, a resident of Troy, in the county of Renssclaer and State of New York, and Tomas S. HEIs- TER, a resident of Lansingburg, in said county and State, have jointly invented and produced a new and original ornamental Design for Base-Burning Parlor-Stoves, of which the following is a specification, reference being had by letters to the accompanying wood-cut, print, or engraving of a stove having our said new design.
One part of our invention consists of the design for the urn L, composed of the ornamented cup-shaped body an and the ornamental handles n n thereon, the upper part of the body being surrounded by a row of short sectionbars, having inclined sides and ends, and arranged between two parallel beaded or twisted moldings, and the lower portion of the said body m being concave, with sectional divisions and an ornamental projecting border at the bottom, and the handles a n being angular in their lower parts, curved in their upper parts, and, in the middle upright portions, straight, with ornaments on the outer sides, and all the parts being shaped, ornamented, and disposed together so as to present substantially the same appearance as is represented in the aforesaid engraving.
Another part of our invention is the design for the cover 0, consisting of the ornamental portions p and q, the part 1) being concave, with upwardly and inwardly projecting ornamentations thereon, and the part q being composed of the lower and outer smooth curved moldings, the adjacent inner ornamental heading, and the broad upper and inner convex portion surrounded by upwardlypointin g ribs thereon, with an ornamented head around the top inner edge, and the whole bcin g shaped rand arranged together so as to appear as represented in the aforesaid cut.
Another part of our invention is the design for the top plate R, consisting of the concave inner and upper portion 8, having a row of four-leaved ornaments thereon, and the part r, composed of the outer smooth steeply-inclined fillet-rim, the adjacent inner curved plain molding, and the broad inner convex molding, havin g the row of inverted arches with central projections thereon, all shaped and arranged together substantially as shown in the aforesaid print.
Another part consists of the design for the panels of the upper section I, as distinguished by the compound oval ornament U, having alternate rows of plain and ornamented rhombic figures surrounded by a beaded border, and arranged on the plain oval curved surface of a rectangular panel, having the internallycurved ornamentations \V in the corners and rows of ornaments along the sides and ends, all shaped and disposed so as to appear substantially as shown in the aforesaid engraving.
Another part consists of the design for the illuminating-doors X, as distinguished by the four inclined stiles 3 connected hya base-bar, with a row of alternating beads and angular projecting ribs along the base and bar and each stile, and with the four stiles united at their tops by keystone arches surmounted by the scroll-work cap-piece z, and all the parts shaped, ornamented, and arranged together substantially as shown in the aforesaid woodcut.
Another part consists of the design for the fire pot section A, as distinguished by the upper convex portion b, having thereon a row of circular projecting rings closely connected together, with a four-pointed ornament in the middle of each ring, and circular ornaments at the junctions of the rings, in combination with the lower concave portions 0, having thereon the series of compound upwardly-elongated scroll like ornamentations, and the beaded fillet between the said convex and concave portions 11 and c, and the whole being shaped, ornamented, and arranged together substantially as represented in the aforesaid engraving.
Another part consists of the design for the upper baseplate, as distinguished by the circular inclined portion D, having the rows of upwardly-pointing ornaments e and f, respectively, upon the inclined upper and concave lower parts, in combination with the lateral] y extended portion G, having ornamented projections h h at the sides of the front part, and surrounded by the compound edge-molding i,
the whole being shaped and arranged together substantially as represented in the aforesaid cut.
Another part consists of the design for the shaker-door J, composed of the ornament k, having a central rosette and lateral three-cleft and pointed extensions therefrom, all shaped and arranged on the plain surface of the door as shown in the aforesaid engraving.
Another part consists of the design for the draft-door M, as distinguished by the oblong upright apertures, having straight bottoms and arched tops, and the rows of quadrangular or naments I, bordering the sides of the said apertures and on the end portions of the door, all shaped and disposed substantially as shown in the aforesaid engraving.
Another part consists of the design for the lower section, as distinguished by the bracket N, having a scroll-leaf on its face, and the smooth curved panel P, having thereon the oval ornament Q, composed of alternate rows of plain and ornamented quadrangular figures surrounded by a beaded border, all shaped and arranged together so as to present the appearance represented in the aforesaid engraving.
Another part consists of the design for the base-plate S, composed of the particular shape and configuration of the exposed body and perimeter of the plate, and of the scrolls u u and moldings 1*, 1c, and .v thereon, all arranged together so as to present the particular appearance shown in the aforesaid en gravin Another part consists of the design for the leg T, as distinguished by the row of three four sided oblong projections, having inclined sides, arranged on the enlarged knee portion of the leg, with a pointed ornament below, and scroll and leaf like ornaments above, the said row of oblong projections, all shaped and disposed substantially as shown in the aforesaid out.
\Vhat we claim as our joint invention is- 1. The design for the urn L, composed of the body an and handles n a, shaped, ornamented, and arranged together as herein specifled, and shown in the aforesaid illustrative engravin 2. The design for the cover 0, consisting of the concave ribbed molding p and the portion q, composed of the plain outer curved molding, the adjacent heading, the broad convex ribbed molding, and the beading at the top thereof, all shaped and arranged as shown in the aforesaid engraving.
3. The design for the top plate R, consisting of the parts 8 and t, composed, shaped, ornamented, and arranged together as herein specified, and represented in the aforesaid cut.
4. The design for the panels of the upper section I, composed of the ornament U on the plain curved oval surface and the cornerpieces \V, all shaped, ornamented, and arranged together as shown and described.
5. The design for the illummating-doors X, composed of the base-bar, four inclined stiles, y, connected at the top by three arches, surmounted by the cap-piece 2, all shaped, ornamented,and disposed as described and shown.
6. The design for the fire-pot section A, composed of the upper convex part b, the lower concave portion 0, and the intervening beaded fillet, all shaped, ornamented, and disposed substantially as shown and described.
7. The design for the upper base-plate, com posed of the upper inclined portion D, having the rows of upwardly-pointing ornaments a and f, and the laterally-extemled lower part G, having the ornamented projections h h and the compound edge-molding i, all shaped and arranged substantially as represented in the aforesaid out.
8. The design for the shaker-door J, as distinguished by the compound ornamentlr, shaped and arranged on the plain surface as shown and described.
9. The design for the draft-door M, distinguished by the oblong apertures and rows of quadrangular ornaments I, all shaped and arranged as herein specified, and shown in the illustrative cut.
10. The design for the lower section, as distinguished by the bracket X, having a scrollleaf face, and the plain curved panel I, having the ornament Q thereon, all shaped and arranged substantially as represented in the aforesaid en gravin".
11. The design for the bottom plate S, as distinguished by the particular shape and configuration of its rim, and of the scrolls u u and moldings 1*, 1c, and .r thereon, all combined as shown in the cut.
12. The design for the legs T, as distinguished by the row of three oblong projections, with ornamentations above and below, all shaped and disposed as herein described and Shown.
